Back in Nov there was news of a flash player 10 for the G1. Well, its Feb, has there been any word on a release or release date?
Adobe is famous for their vaporware. Knowing how Adobe is with ANY updates to flash, I would say that the chances of a version of flash for the G1 anytime this year are slim to nil.
True, but there really are some great minds at Adobe..
It wont be longer than a few months i dont think.
There was an article about a week ago that said that the reason why we haven't seen flash yet is because the 'lite' version for Windows Mobile is too stripped down while the full desktop version is too demanding. They need to make a version of flash that performs well and is feature rich. This takes A LOT of time and effort to complete.
I would say that when all of the features from cupcake go mainstream, Google will make flash a priority. It's probably on the backburner for now.
apple is on the verge of getting flash 10 too it would really suck ig they got it before android users
Google can't do anything about getting flash to us, except ask for it.
Same thing with Apple. It all depends on Adobe and who they like more.
I've seen videos of flash 10 for the g1. I'm guessing it was a WM version, but we'll just have to wait.

Haha dude, that was Apple that said that about Flash for the iPhone. The lite wasn't powerful enough, but the full version was too bloated. Google said nothing like that and they actually have a full version working on the G1.

And in the end that was just Apple's way of just trying to make a legitimate excuse why Flash isn't on the iPhone, but when you look at their licensing agreements Flash will never be allowed on the iPhone because its a development platform that people can use to side step Apple's Nazi Q&A department to get apps on the iPhone.
Personally I can't way for Flash support and my money is on it'll be here by the end of the year due to the increasing demand.
I'm Sooooo sick of people comparing the progress of the iPhone to the G1!!! iPhone is already getting ready for 3rd generation this summer. Why? Because after two years, it's still outpaced by the four month old G1!!! Once Google gets around to getting this thing up to it's full potential, Apple will have to return to the drawing board scratching their heads. Imagine when the next gen Android phones finally come out!!! Can't WAIT to see what these things will be capable of!!!
I think you mean when the next version of the OPERATING SYSTEM comes out. The hardware is fine as it is.
Regarding flash... don't expect it any time soon. It took them close to SIX YEARS to finally support current desktop CPUs.... in ALPHA.
swfdec and gnash are good places to start if anyone is interested in building an open source flash player for android.
are you saying the working demo of flash on the g1 is a hoax then?
cause if they have even a lite working version of flash currently i dont see what the problem is.

A. The G1 should have been AS good as the 2nd generation iPhone when it was released, because they actually had an example to learn and copy.
B.The G1 is far behind the iPhone in terms of performance and capabilities. It's not outpaced by the G1 by any stretch of the imagination.

Unfortunately, I'm not.
Maybe you can show me where I can find Google Earth on my G1?
Or as cool a media player as the iPhone has.
Or how about some really cool, arcade quality games?
Oh, and maybe you can tell me how to get my Push email working with exchange.
And multitouch. And the soft keyboard.
These are just a few of the little things.
My opinion: I think a ROOTED G1 is far better than iPhone in potential and capability.
Autorotation YES
Multitouch YES
Soft keyboard YES--already 2 versions available; will get better in 2 months or less
Run from SD card--flexible expandibility YES
Run all apps in background YES
Dont have to pay to do stupid crap like direct dial a contact YES
Open source YES
OS will run on lots of different phones and non-phones YES
Wireless Tethering YES
Significant updates all the time (now at RC33 since RC19 in November 2008) YES
Can use the OS to run a robot YES
Oh, I forgot these as well--
Change look and feel via custom themes YES
Huge cell phone companies like Samsung and Motorola and HTC jumping in YES

Let's see.
Soft keyboard? where?
Multi-Touch? 1 app only.
Autorotation? Not working untill I can get the new droidsans.
Open Source. Big deal. 95% of the Apps are crap. ALL of the games are crap.
Significant updates? It currently is approaching where it SHOULD have been on the first release.
Still not there yet.
"Soft keyboard? where?"
SoftKeyboard just came out this week. AKeyUI has been out for months now.
"Multi-Touch? 1 app only."
Well, actually 2--you obviously haven't seen Luke's Picture Sorter. Also, have you seen Luke's messages to the Google developers regarding multitouch? Seems to me that they were quite impressed.
"ALL of the games are crap."
I like Sudoku, Trap!, and other goofy little games--YZ, PapiJump, ThrottleCopter, Mastermind. These are time wasters when I am waiting in line or sitting in a waiting room. I also like the aReader books, Dracula, Call of the Wild, etc. They are also FREE. Do you think, just maybe, the quality of the games has something to do with their cost and the current ability to charge for them?
"Significant updates? It currently is approaching where it SHOULD have been on the first release."
This will be funny to anyone that knows about large-scale product releases. I will leave it at that, but poke your iPhone in this one. Anyone with the initial release of iPhone can attest to its problems.
Finally you forgot my last two points:
"Change look and feel via custom themes YES
Huge cell phone companies like Samsung and Motorola and HTC jumping in YES"
And you forgot these as well:
"Run from SD card--flexible expandibility YES
Run all apps in background YES

Typing this up really quickly as im waiting for lunch, will expand later.
I got lots of pics and vids already, which i may post later if there is any interest.
Android stuff seems to be decidedly absent so far.
@Microsoft: You all probably already heard about WM 6.5, saw some demos live, looks like a decent UI improvement, but its still no iPhone. Also saw some new devices here, including Acer stuff.
@nVidia: I did get a chance to play with a Tegra device, which was really snappy and smooth, but also the size of a small house. Very promising. They did have two normal Tegra devices on display, with names I had seldom heard before, but behind glass.
@HTC: Played with the Touch Diamond 2 a bit. I dont like the new form factor much. It wastes space at the bottom, and introduces a zoom slider that I couldnt get to work in either IE or Opera. They did do some more HTC integration, new startmenu, better contacts list etc. The Touch Max is just an HD with WiMAX.
@Qualcomm: They demod snapdragon, but it didnt seem as impressive as Tegra. Also, I was not allowed to touch the device. The now infamous Toshiba was also there, but again, no touching. BTW Nokia just made a deal with these guys, so abandon ship!
@LG: I was surprised to learn they are switching to WM as primary OS. They had some nice Omnia-like devices though, and the wristwatchphone was also fun.
@Samsung: Biggest surprise here, it seems the OmniaHD is running Symbian! No idea yet if there will also be a WM version.
---
The open eco system keynote with Microsoft, Nokia and AT&T CEOS was interesting. AT&T guys was the best, Ballmer a close second with his energetic ways and content, while the Nokia guy almost killed everybody due to excess boredom. The keynote itself was mostly a call for more working together and being generally more open with things, which they all agreed was necessary.
---
BTW, I dont know who CBOSS are or what they do, but they do employ an army of hot models!
More later, lunch is here, and I want to find myself a Palm Pre to play with!
ok, just tell me which device to get and that's it. so many out there i can't decide what i want.
JUST TELL ME! AHHH!
Omnia HD!!
HTC's hardware seems to be stuck in 2007 compared to Samsung and LG, heck even Sony Ericsson.
Kinda worrying how ppl are moving towards Symbian, but can't blame them windows mobile really is starting to show its age and no amount of skinning will disguise the fact that it needs a major revamp.
Okay, I was seriously thinking of abandoning the HTC ship for the nokia N97, so I could keep my tilt screen, but now? So if it is not too much trouble, my contract is up in April, could you please corner the AT$T guys and ask them when my new Touch Pro II ( Fuze II ? ) will be available on AT$T? Thanks
Some more stuff... First, somebody at HTC really needs to be fired for putting XT9 on the TP enabled when keyboard is extended. Annoying like hell, finally its off
Found some very nice Android devices that should be out by Q2. The company didnt decide on the brand name yet.
Unfortunately you cant play with the Palm Pre unless you are press.
@Gigabyte (GSmart): some very nice upcoming WM devices. Some were running 6.5 and I played with that. I think somebody made a mistake there!
@iMate: They drowned some of their WM phones. Waterproof!
can you attempt to get the new WM6.5 build ?

At Toshiba's booth, you can freely play with the TG01. Please see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3339526 for more info & a lot of pics & videos (more to come!!!)
Hey Werner!
You're here? Haven't gotten round to Toshiba's booth yet, but if you're interested, PM me your phone number (plus international code bla bla) and we can meet up, schedules allowing... There will be beer!
No ROM dumps people It's a small booth, can't make it happen.
About those Android phones we saw (and I must stress here, I haven't even seen half of all the exhibits yet because of appointments and speeches etc), first, they looked very nice. One of the sexiest phone designs I've seen in a while, but then it was made by a 'design company'. They originally focused on Linux but switched to Android when it was released. According to them, they are using the default Android 'shell' - which is a shame, because their Linux phone had one of the awesomest shells I've seen in a while. I don't think they really understood me correctly, but it seemed they were saying that for these phones you can get apps to run as root without jailbreaking by getting it certified by them (or something.. wasn't really clear).
There were also some Androids coming out under the General Mobile label, but not necessarily those I mentioned above
And no, we're not palming those models (but perhaps we will? ) but we are sure to do some clubhopping here. It's Barcelona, after all! In fact I just got back from a club
EDIT: Also, at SPB's booth we were shown SPB Shell 3.0 (after being persistent), dont have any pics or vids of that. But it's pretty darn cool. I'm going to buy it when it's out, most likely, beats the crap out of TF3D.

I'm sure this is in the wrong place, but it does have a lot to do with the Hero ROM porting that's goign on here. HTC Brazil's website is showing off the Magic with Sense. Anyone come across this built yet? I'm sure it will work a lot better than Hero ROM ports since it's official from HTC! http://htcsource.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=732&Itemid=51

We are just waiting for a Brazilian person to extract it and we can have it too (I think so).. I was reading it and there's good and bad news!!!
Good:
Is really the 1st HTC Sense Ui officially on a Magic!
Bad:
All stores from the Brazilian market listed on the HTC website from the link there, hasn't the equipment available and only the TIM network are promoting the Android phone and asking for filling a form for a pre-release/information (I didn't feel it) about an Android phone (I think it can be the Magic).

I doubt it~! I didn't see for sale it yet on any of the authorized HCT Brazilian shop!! We will have to wait, maybe the release date is the same that our so WANTED update will be released!
that sucks.. so does anyone have a magic with a hero rom that is fast.. and you are satisified with it?
I will not be satisfied till our ui is up to speed with the ones in iphone..

I'm not sure any Andrid UI will ever be as fast as the iPhone. The iPhone UI is only an icon list and that's pretty much it. We'll need a Snapgragon powered Android phone from HTC to acheive a no-lag Sense experience.
i am excited about this. having a native sense ui made specifically for the magic is good news and hopefully will improve performance since we dont have to port from the hero to the g1 to the magic. once it's released we just need one of the devs to root it for us haha then we can install like a normal rom, i think, right? i dont want to lose root to install this.

nativ or not. the problem is the same...
the htc magic in brasil is using 288 mb of ram.
its good for the 32a users but 32b has the same problem as now
even tho it has 288 mb ram , it will still be a better port of Sense as compared to the current one which is of a whole different model , so this would have lesser bugs and im sure with some swap in place it would be pretty snappy for those who have the 32B as well
The main benefit I see from this is that the LED and Bluetooth issues should finally be resolved.

dont know if this is useful to us or not....

Yea, I also don't believe this is much use to us with the Desire ROM being out. Sense 2.1, is always Sense 2.1, unless Sprint made some modifications.

HTC phones on sprint(that I know of) use EXE files to install or update a rom its an app that puts the phone in bootloader mode to flash the device. looks fishy but its legit.
Both 2.1 update for the samsung moment and HTC Hero were EXE files not .img files
I could careless about sprint. I hate them
Doesn't this ROM include 720p video recording?

I have both and I will say Android on the HD2 would rival the NExus One nicely.
my tmobile rep said the name "supersonic" was dropped at one of his conference calls. I would wait for an Evo-like device to drop on a GSM sometime soon (T-mobile).
Come on guys...stop talking stupid crap. I've been hunting the forums trying to figure out if an android cook is coming for hd2, and all i keep seeing are you so-called 'experts' saying things like:
"why would you want android on hd2, buy such-and such"
"wait for the next GSM phone from Tmo"
Well, WHAT THE HELL MAN? Where's the pioneering spirit of the developers I know and love?? Where's the desire to rise to the challenge of porting to a WinMo phone??
There are many T Mobile customers out there who are being offered a good upgrade discount to get an HD2. Why would we all just abandon that and run off to get an unlocked whatever for $500??? Shut up on that please...
Second, no one's waiting for the next anything. What's the point of waiting? No matter what phone you get, it'll be obsolete in 12 months anyway...
SO SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE GET CRACKIN ON AN ANDROID ROM FOR HD2!!!!!!!! Many HD2 owners have already said we'll pay for it...someone will make some money...
And someone in here PLEASE put up a LINK to anything about HD2 android stuff...
geez, XDA is going to the dogs ...seriously though, it was never this hard to get help when the G1 came out (and spare me the obvious "G1 was made for Android" drivel)...

MY FAULT I POSTED THE WRONG VIDEO! I mean, seriously? Is there any need at this point in time? Will there be any hardware that can even run it by this fall or summer aside from maaaaaybe the Galaxy S 3? I dont understand it. Sometimes I feel like google should just keep all their OS development in the closet for at least 1.5-2 years at a time. 1 year minimum. Then do a controlled release with a absolutely bug-free platform. Im already seeing and feeling the gadget fatigue setting in. For christs sake a friend of mine just picked up a set of iPhone 3g's for free for his whole family like a year ago! And they are still liking them! I just dont think it makes sense to keep flooding the market so hard with devices and devices. But then again, that seems to be the correct formula for going up against the all-mighty fruit company. idk. This is great for developers, bad for consumers i guess. But im sure you all know that. Im just ranting.

This is absolutely awesome.
jelly bean is going to kill IOS !
I don't like google releasing a new version of O/S with less than one year gap. It's just my opinion though.

Many of us still are using gingerbread in our devices and even some of them are shipped with froyo on it!
Meanwhile ICS isn't even finished perfectly yet so I don't understand why they shouldn't continue developing ICS before even starting Jelly bean...

This statement makes no sense whatsoever. Continue developing ICS before starting jellybean? Do you even understand what a software version is? ICS is Android. Jellybean will still be android. As Android gets updated, and enough changes get made to the software, that is when they decide to change a name. So in all actuality, jellybean is ICS that has been developed further.......
Umm.. Haven't even got ICS yet and rumors about 5.0 ? Duh! this makes me jealous and frustrate!
Google seems to be restless. Remember when Honeycomb was released, they announced ICS at the same time! We are developing with 3.1 in mind and can't even think of exclusively using newer features to Android 4.x because of the major lag in new devices.
This isn't good for developers, it just gives us more headaches to control the fragments.
.
Thread moved to proper section
This makes absolutely zero sense for them to do this.

I agree that it would be too soon to relewse a new is just recently after ice came out and with only 1% of phones using ice right now. They should prioritize updating tlthe rest of the phones to ice and ironing out and building that os to recognition instead of rolling out something new. It would totally make ice purposeless in my eyes and a waste. I know technology is ever expanding but seems its expanding too quick to anyone to enjoy it long enough to stick to one thing.
From what I heard its for tablets right ? So basically this is like honeycomb something meant for the tablet community . If its for mobiles then this is a very bad thing ,I mean seriously how many devices come with ICS now ? 5 ?

If 5.0 comes out before 2013, Google is stupider than I thought.

My whole thing about it is this, how do you explain to people who are still on Froyo, this is something new and great and you should use it! Their devices are supported by the manufacturer. If the manufacturer (like 3 main ones) dont keep up with the upgrade schedule with all their onslaught of devices, then whats the point?
I feel as though Android is being developed so rapidly that it seems as though they dont even care about what devices are out, or which ones "matter" to the market more. Its all about development for them. (which isnt necessarily bad) And for manufacturers, its all about flood flood flood the market with every new spec technology they can in order to not accidentally fall behind Apple. This is the honest to goodness truth i fear!!
Companies are trying their absolute best to make certain that they dont get caught by surprise with some Apple super device---so they keep putting out a new device the instant they make a little headway in specs. They are too afraid of letting the market settle for longer than 3 months!! For fear that Apple will announce a launch all of the sudden and bring out a 1080p hex core smartphone with 20 gb of ram and 128 gb of hard disk. lol! Its really starting to piss me off. Its starting to become a childish game of "oh we did/have that already, its not new."
These companies really have to let the market catch its breath. I mean here in the U.S. people are still trying to fight their way out of this recession, and yet Samsung and Android expect me to buy a Galaxy Nexus since its the ONLY device with ICS! Indirectly though it may be, its still frusterating as hell. I say 1 year, minimum. Dont tell people about it in the news, dont leak anything, and dont throw it on devices unless it really makes a big difference-or after one year! I mean, google will always have their ad revenue to sit on. So I really dont understand the rush to release. ---rant complete---
