[Q] HTC Touch pro or HTC Diamond2? - General Topics

Hi guys
I am currently staying in Taiwan and I am considering to buy my very first windows mobile phone.
Right now in Taiwan, a HTC Touch costs around $444USD and a HTC Diamond2 around $648USD (Similar cost to a HTC Touch HD).
Because I am a student, I have very limited budget. Both TP and D2 have very similar hardware spec (in terms of processor, memory and ram). And looking at the xds-forum, the TP can easily match D2's software features through a cooked rom.
So here is my question. Is it worth to spend an extra $200USD to buy a D2, instead of a TP?
Thank you~~

Hi, that depends a lot on how you will use the device. The Diamond 2 sure is a lot better for pictures (5mp) and has a better looking and bigger screen to watch videos and use the web for example. And that's all, i don't think there's any real improvements.
The TP has good camera too, (3,2) and the hardware keyboard. I had a Kaiser, and now a diamond 1, and one thing i really miss is playing games with a real keyboard, not only touchscreen and D-pad.
As for the software, i wouldn't mind very much as almost everything in this forum is ported between TP, Diamond 2 and Diamond.
So i would go with the Touch Pro. But that's only my opnion, from someone who never actually had a diamond 2, just reads a lot of posts here.
If i were you i would go to the store, would "play" with both for about 2 hours, than i'd choose.
Good luck with your choice!

Some good alternatives to TyTn II

Hey guys, what are some good alternatives to the HTC TyTn II. I had the ATT TILT for a month and a half and have found that I barely ever use the keyboard. So my next phone will not need a keyboard but definitely need touchscreen and GPS. Anything cheap or reasonable price? I see the Touch Cruise but I don't like the styling too much and it's pretty expensive. I am looking to spend around $400.
you can get an htc touch (not cruise or dual) on ebay for very reasonable....excellent phone
Neither of those has GPS, though. Among the current batch of HTC devices with GPS, if you don't like the Cruise looks, the best one is the TyTn II. The Touch is great, but it has no GPS, no 3G and only 200 Mhz (and that's making sure you get the second version as the first one had only 64 Mb RAM).
HTC will be announcing new devices on May 6th. I think your best bet is wait and see
I most likely will not have enough money at all for the new HTC phones that are going to be announced on May 6th. Current limit is $400 =(. That actually is a very large sum of money for me to spend on a phone in my opinion. But yeah, GPS is a must have for me as well as touch screen for the GPS programs. I really don't need 3G at all, not even EDGE or GPRS lol. I do need wi-fi though.
d810 is your champ then! i used the trinity and it's excellent!
Yeah I was looking at the trinity as well. But the only thing that made me look for something else is because of the 64MB ram. I had the TyTn for a while and it was sluggish compared to the TyTn II and I am assuming that part of it was due to the ram. The TyTn II allowed me to have many more program open and not have to constantly worry about closing programs.
Hmm. Wifi+GPS+128 Mb rules out most current HTC hardware. I think only the TyTn II and the Cruise fit your needs. Add the $400 limitation and you're out of options.
Why don't you keep the TyTn II anyway? even if you don't use the keyboard (which I love) all in all it's a good device. So I suppose you want something thinner, don't you? Have you considered (gasp) another brand? For example Asus has some interesting GPS phones, although I think the ones with 128 Mb have a keyboard too, and I have no idea about prices.
Yeah I have checked other devices and the Eten devices catch my eye but the main problem is 64MB ram that most their devices have. Some of theirs have VGA screens and I am assuming with a VGA screen you would want more ram because the applications for VGA typically take up more space.

Hmm, right place? Tytn II vs Diamond

Hello, I'm due an upgrade on Orange very soon, and I'm basically going to go either for a TytnII or a Touch Diamond, but I'm wondering which one is for me.
I've been browsing the Diamond forums a lot recently, and following Tytns progress, and working in a phone shop I've been lucky enough to play with both, albeit briefly.
For me, I'm going to be using data a lot, probably going to want to use Messenger etc.
Whats the QVGA vs VGA argument like? Because I've noticed the Diamonds screen real estate is pretty poor, compared to the Diamond.
I have no reason to use TouchFlo because I'd much rather use SPB Mobile Shell
Whats the cooked ROM situation for Diamond? Mature I am guessing? Processing power vs. Diamond?
I'm just looking for a well thought through comparison, really
Thanks in advance
not even in the same class .... does the tittan have a tv out port??? diamond has one.... so what do u think ... like i said $>not even in the same class<$
what about tytn 3 vs diamond???

HTC Diamond or At&t tilt?

I've had my Tilt for about 6 months now and I've finally got it the way I like it with all the software and stuff (thanks xda!), but now I have the opportunity to swap it for an HTC diamond. Should I do it? I don't know much about the Diamond and really dont have the time right now to look it up so I'm leaving it up to you guys. Btw incase it might help I use my phone for mostly 1) phone calls, 2) Wifi on my University campus , 3) Texting. Thanks for your help.
Unless it was an HTC Touch Diamond Pro then I wouldn't recommend it. Sure the Diamond has slightly better specs, but it lacks the nice tilting keyboard, but then again you can always do with the on-screen keyboard instead. Hers my take on it; I wouldn't buy a new HTC Touch Diamond to replace my HTC Tilt, but if I had the opportunity to swap it for free then I would go for it. Anyways hers a specification comparison between the two:

Dimond touch
speaking of it, does any one of you know if theresa plugin of some sort to make the Dxian X999+'s accelerometer work as the g sensor????
PS. this probably isn't the best place to post this but i need help
Thanks
for hat you your phone for they both work. only thing is your going to miss your keyboard. if you want both devices put in one try the htc raphael. has vga display and a keyboard. you loose features but gain some newer technology 3d drivers (but as you know kaiser is close to realeasing m3d ) I beleive the raphael has g sensors and it is has a vga display.
the whole point is he can SWAP for a diamond, he doesn't want to be told to spend $800 on a Touch Pro, as I'm sure he knows that it's essentially a combintion of them.
I would say keep the Tilt, youve got it perfect, I'm sure it runs fast enough for you, and the Diamond doesn't really have better specs at all (fake amount fo RAM)

Go For HTC Touch Diamond..!
Hi Mighty,
Hey buddy.Don't hesitate.Go for the HTC. I also bought my HTC Touch Diamond from Press Digital in the last week.So far i'm very impress with it.I'm sure you also can feel the fun.Go for it..!
Brad..!
All i gota say is, Dont do it lol

What phone shall I get?

Well after 3 or 4 weeks with the Touch Diamond I'm going to sell it and buy something else.
The battery life is a bit poor but liveable but the looks of the phone and the user interface don't bother me so I think that's the Diamonds main selling points negated.
What I wanted was like my HTC Elf but more powerful and 3G connectivity.
I thought the Diamond would offer that and does in a way but I just feel that the processing power and RAM is wasted somewhere (VGA?) as it just doesn't impress.
After a few days using my wifes old blackberry I have become a hard keyboard convert so now the brief includes a keyboard.
The phone has to run slingplayer well and basically I'm not looking for a fashion phone just something with good performance and capability. Built in GPS too. TBH I'd rather QVGA as VGA seems overkill on such a small screen.
I've shortlisted the Kaiser.
And the HP IPAQ 914c. I've no experience of these but the spec looks good.
All advice and suggestions welcome.
Ben.
well between the 2 you have shortlisted i would say go for KAISER
its a very nice phone ,has a very good forum here at XDA ,and many interesting projects are going on for the phone
i just bought my kaiser on ebay for $230 the only problem i have had with it is that it is just not as stable as my old tmobile wing/htc herald. but gps is nice and it is way fast. i was going to buy an imate ultimate 9502 but i could not come up with that much money
Thanks.
It is a bonus with the Kaiser that lots are available on ebay.
Just noticed the Touch 3Gs specs are good apart from no keyboard. Should be even quicker than the Kaiser?

What to get next?

I currently have a TyTN (Hermes 200) and am thinking about upgrading.
Maybe something used.
My biggest indecision is that I don't know if the next phone should have a slide out keyboard, or not. (Slide-out keyboard is nice, but makes for a thicker device)
I don't do heavy emailing or heavy texting... just the occasional ones.
Any thoughts/advice on which way to go? Maybe recommend a device?
P.S. I don't want an iPhone... I think i'd prefer to tick with an HTC device (WM or even Android)
here's a Touch HD & QWERTY thread discussion...maybe some info there:

Try and check out the ASUS P565. It is not an HTC phone, but something to consider since a brand new unit is about 500 something dollars. Here is a thread discussion with links: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446317
The upcoming Touch Pro2 and Touch Diamond2 look really nice. The former is more like the TyTN, and the latter is more like the TyTN without a keyboard. They're both pretty much the same, except the Diamond2 has a better camera and no keyboard. They will both ship with 6.1, but will be upgradable to WM6.5.
Dave
I will definitely replace my Hermes with the touch pro 2, at least if my battery survives that long.
One more for touch pro 2!!
Neither the Pro 2 or Diamond 2 can replace the Hermes adequately, since they don't have a scroll wheel and D-pad.
So other then the Touch Pro2, there are no other suggestions?
What are the thoughts on the Touch Pro? how is it compared to the tytn? Much faster?
yes, the touch pro (and se xperia X1, almost the same hardware, different looks) are a *LOT* faster then the TyTN, their 2 years newer, so that's expected offc
The major diff is the amount of memory, the tytn always rns of of memory at about any task. Other then that, the cpu on the tp is a lot fatser, it has a bigger VGA screen, ans a lot of nice stuff that you could or couldn't care about (tv-out, g-sensor etc.).
If you want a replacement for the tytn *now* get a touch pro or an X1 (personal choice), but if you can wait another 3-4 months (in europe at least) then the touch pro 2 would seem to be the best choice.
