I've gotten every answer under the sun from sprint... I'm going to ask this here...
Does the MotoQ have a built-in GPS?
One rep told me it did and it used the Serif (?) chipset (cant remember for sure, but it started with an "S")
One told me it used tower triangulation
One was honest and said they had no information on the GPS...
The MotoQ has some form of tracking avalible, and the icon indicating it is a crosshair that appears when your phone is "locked on" the manual IMPLIES this is GPS, and says the phone is compatable with several softwares for this, however so far I can get no maping software to talk to the GPS (though I have gotten a "searching for satelite" follwoed eventualyl by "failed" using hte latest version of google maps)

Hi,
I wondered about the GPS issue as well and did a search on that. From what I understood, it is as follows:
The Motorola Moto Q9h exists in two versions:
1) US Version: does have a built-in GPS module. It will not be shipped with a GPS application, as this is provided on a subscribtion basis by the operator.
Because it is running WM6.x Smartphone Edition, there is only one GPS software that works, which is Route66. This is the only properly working GPS software for WM6.x Smartphone Edition. TomTom6 will not work and I have my doubts if the Garmin software works.
Reception seems to be average and getting a satellite link can take a few minutes.
2) European Version: does not have the GPS module. You can use an external bluetooth GPS device, but again it will only work with Route66.
As a hint: there is a phone sold in by VDA in Germany, called the VDA GPS, which has the same formfactor as the Q9h, but comes with built-in GPS. It is sold at the German eBay for less than 100 Euro (new). Definitly worth it!
Cheers,
vma
PS: Correct me, if I'm wrong...

Hi everybody. Has anybody the same problem with IGO8 and GPs. When The GPS is off I can use the software for map browsing, route calculating etc.. At the moment GPS is connected to satelites the application shuts down without any message warning.
Do you have any ideas how to fix this problem.
I have also tested TomTom, Google navigator, GPS tuner and other navi soft and all of them work fine.
Thany x for help.
matus
no problem here, i can use igo 8 to navigate fine with gps
Dear Matelko. Your software and whole system seems to be veeery stupid and the problem can be maybe OS related. As I know, some of your apps are working strange, but my not, even we have the same packages used. Just share iGo8 with me and we will test it this weekend(maybe) if we will have enough time and a bit less of work around the cottage or with cars.
Btw,welcome to this discussion Mathew. You need to watch it all and you will get too much infos about Raphael.

1. Update to the latest version of iGO8.
2. Disable Assisted GPS (it is off by default) using Advanced Config 3.2 found on this forum.
Works fine for me, only a little lag.
That lag I know, but I can live with it. My physicall position is 50metres before the position that shows TomTom. Btw.TomTom is working fine for me without aGPS. With aGPS I had no reliable fix available. I like TT7,because of the maps coverage in comparison with iGo. I said goodbye to iGo at all.
Hello All
I have a Samsung ACE i325 and did the official WM6.1 upgrade.
This upgrade enables the GPS chip.
I tried to use GPS with googelmaps and nav4all but get no connection to the GPS chip.
Problem is always the same.
The programs do look for the GPS signal on com11 but it is on com8.
Is somebody out there who can tell me where to modify that in the registry either for the progs or the system?
Regards
Highc
it was worth a try
I also did the upgrade and Google found the GPS. I had another GPS program though that did not find the GPS and had to go into Settings/Other settings/Location and turn on that setting.
Give it a try.
sorry to dig up this thread.
I just received this phone from my dad as he is thowing his away.
Good to hear it has gps, ill try tomtom with it once i get a data cable.
Pity the phone hasnt got microsdhc, wifi or easy to type with as it could of been a very good phone.
EDIT:
Ok ignore what i just said about it not doing micro sdhc. Well it does! If you upgrade to windows mobile 6.1 that is.
It can even go up to 16gb. Pity it dosnt do wifi though
i want to know, can this phone change orther language, like chinese? and how to do it
Hello everyone,
we are developing a location based app and reliable GPS fix is a must.
We were looking in the chinese market for Android GPS enabled mobile phones to test the app.
We finally ordered two STARB92 M however we realized that their GPS fix is a pain to get let aside the accuracy.
I know, there are lots of threads in this forum how to fix this issue, we tried a few and I cant say we got any results, Specifically GPS accuracy is still a mess.
My question is simple.
Are there any Chinese brands that offer Android mobile phones with out of the box reliable GPS fix (sub 10 meters accuracy, no flashing ROMS, downloading apps, setting NTP servers etc) ?
If yes please advise on specific models (requirements similar to Star B92M).
Your help is deeply appreciated - we are a step before buying external bluetooth GPS receivers .
Thank you.
GPS
are you sure you want GPS to be that accurate in China?
