Per network settings - General Questions and Answers

Ok, if you need to connect to a WiFi network with no DHCP service where you are allowed to choose an IP (like your own home network where you want a specific IP), you have to go:
Settings > Connections > WiFi > Wireless Networks > Network Adapters > IEEE 802.11b/g Compatible Wi-Fi Adapter and there change to Use specific IP address and the like.
But the changes you make there, are valid for all your WiFi connections (since they are network adapter related). If you later need to connect to a public WiFi where you can only get an IP through DHCP, you have to go back and change the setting again all over again.
Is there any way/software that can keep these settings per network? Eg. if the network's name is Freenet then use DHCP, if the network's name is Home then use specific IP, DNS, etc.

There's something for windows.. which i'm almost positive will be work for WM.
I will check it when i get home..

Anything ?

nir36, can we please move this to "Networking" in case someone there knows anything? Or should I repost there?

VPN

I configured a VPN connection, but I don't know how I can actually use it. I don't see an option to connect using VPN. Anyone?
Once your vpn connection is set up, you need to specify exception urls :
Settings > Connections > Menu(Advanced)>Menu(Work URL Exceptions)>Menu(Add)

Holy crap, how can M$ make simple concepts so complicated.
Anyways, thanx for the help
If I add the sip server of my VoIP provider in the URL exceptionlist, will the VPN connection then automatically be used to connect to that specific host??
(Here is me desperately trying to VoIP via GPRS/EDGE .....)

Wireless Internet Connection problem

CANNOT CONNECT TO WIRELESS ROUTER
I own an unlocked Siemens SX66 with Windows Mobile 6.5 installed. I had no problems with it but recently I cannot connect to my home wireless network or to any other wireless connection. I went in to "Settings" and clicked on "Configure Network Adaptors" to check the "tiacxwln Compatible Wireless Ethernet" setup and saw the following settings:
The "Use server-assigned IP address" is checked and on the IP address column this information was entered and cannot be edited..
IP address: fe80::209:2dff:fe1
I tried to delete it but like I said, it cannot be edited or deleted. Is there any way I can take this out? I believe this is the reason why I cannot connect to my wireless router at home since my router cannot assign an IP address to it.
Thank you in advance for any help or suggestion that you can pass on to me

Another wifi problem.

Hi everyboy, I have an Blue Angel with WM6.5.3 from sun_dream. I can't connect to my home wifi or any wifi. I configured my router like this:
DHCP off
Wirless all
WPA-PSK
TKIP
64bit
I can't connect even to open wifi accespoints(hotspots).
I start the wirelss manager, tap on wirelss on and after that the wireless network appears. I click connect and nothing happens. In the network manager the connectios is available, i click connect, it says connecting and than again it says available.(any hot sopt or the home network, for that at home i entered the mac into the router and have written the ip an dns to the phone wirelss card)
Pleas help, it is a great phone i like it but this is the only problem i have.
PS: I even commanded an bluetooth gps unit. Is there any way to change the hardware and install an "g" wireless card?
Shouldn't DHCP on your WiFi router be set to 'On' and also for the phone as well. It will select an IP address for your device, which will then pick it up.
Otherwise you will have to allocate an IP address on the router, and then set the phone to the same address. If they don't match it won't work
It's a lot easier to let DHCP do all the donkey work. In most public areas DHCP is used as it is a 'Start it and forget it' system.
I set dhcp off because i assign an ip adress to every pc manualy and even have an mac filter where again the ip is written. I set the same ip on the phone as i had written it in the router config.
I can't acces even public wireless spots. I have the problem that it says the connection is available and then it says connecting and instead of connected it says avaialble.

[Q] How to set a fixed IP address

How to set a fixed IP address
Go to your WiFi settings. Where you have your list of WiFi networks, push and hold the network you want to have static IP on. After a second or two, a dialogue comes up where you can Forget network or Modify network. Select Modify Network. In the settings you have one that is called "IP settings", currently configured to DHCP. Select static in that menu and then you will be able to fill in all the details for your static address (IP, Netmask, Gateway, DNS servers, Netmask). Note, the netmask is called Network prefix length and you specify how many bits that are locked rather than the normal "255.255.255.0" syntax.
thanks, man

I have a vibrant T959 and was wondering if I set it to have a static IP address, what else does it affect on the workings of the phone. I am using the phone to give me a wifi hotspot and then I am using the signal to send to my MoFi wireless router to give my FTA satellite reciever the internet but I don't want my IP to change evey time I turn off my wifi hotspot. My FTA reciever needs a constant IP address. Thanks for any help you can give me. I am new to a lot of this.
Thanks a lot, I just bought the eee Pad and in my way setting things..

[Q] Bypassing Apt Complex WiFi Splash Page

Hello all,
I've recently moved to an apartment complex with very good community wifi. However, upon connecting to the wifi, I am redirected to a splash page where I input my apartment username/password. This is okay for my PC and android devices but not so good for my PS3, dvd player, and Google Chromecast. I've been looking for a way to bypass this splash page. I have a Linksys E1500 with DD-WRT installed that I think will be helpful in this endeavor. I've found a couple of options online such as:
1) Connect to wifi on PC, then connect PC to router, and activate internet connection sharing -> I tried this but it wasn't working. I wasn't sure what mode my router should be in (AP, client, bridge?) or what local connection to set it to; The instructions weren't clear. Also, I would like to have my own private network fed from the public network.
2) Use router as repeater -> I tried this as well but it didn't really work. I could get Google home page to load but then everything else would say "SSL connection error". I wasn't sure what to do at that point. Instructions were:
"Hard reset the router, then configure the router to 192.168.2.1 and mask 255.255.255.0. Next go to status/wireless and find the AP you want...and click join. When the screen changes to the wireless page, change the dropdown to 'repeater', add virtual interface with new SSID, hit save. Go to Security tab and uncheck everything under Block WAN, save, apply changes. Power cycle then go to basic router setup, assign WAN port to switch, enter opendns for your static DNS as follows
static dns 1 208.67.222.222
static dns 2 208.67.220.220
Then in services tab for dnsmasq put this line:
strict-order
hit save, apply settings again."
3) Use router with DD-WRT to create a tunnel through openVPN -> I didn't know how to configure this and couldn't find instructions.
4) Buy a travel router -> I want to save money so I would like to avoid this option if I can... People claim it works for their hotel splash pages but I don't know if it'll work with mine.
I might have done something wrong during my setup procedures; I can't say for sure. I would gladly try again if someone wants to walk me through the process/troubleshoot. My overall goal is to get my own network set up from the community network without having to deal with the splash page. I hope this is possible. If anyone knows another method I could try, let me know.
My apt complex specs are:
SSID: apartmentcomplex
Security type: none
IPv4: 192.168.1.156
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
DHCP Server: 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Splash page is: 192.168.1.1:8000
I appreciate the help.
