I configured a VPN connection, but I don't know how I can actually use it. I don't see an option to connect using VPN. Anyone?
Once your vpn connection is set up, you need to specify exception urls :
Settings > Connections > Menu(Advanced)>Menu(Work URL Exceptions)>Menu(Add)

Holy crap, how can M$ make simple concepts so complicated.
Anyways, thanx for the help
If I add the sip server of my VoIP provider in the URL exceptionlist, will the VPN connection then automatically be used to connect to that specific host??
(Here is me desperately trying to VoIP via GPRS/EDGE .....)

so, that means i can't set wifi with proxy in my phone?
Hi there!
Maybe I'm just too stupid, but I've benn trying for weeks now to setup the network parameters for my University's Campus network and failed miserably, so could someone please explain to me how this darn "Internet Connection Manager" works?
What I need in brief:
How can I setup a proxy to use with and only with
- HTTP(S) and FTP(S)
for a WiFi-Network that
- is NOT encrypted
- does NOT require dialing a number / accessing a modem
- does NOT use a VPN
??
Whenever I try this it always results in the connection dying completely.
In other words: When I select my standard UMTS-uplink as "default connection for programs connecting automatically" and then manually establish a WiFi-connection I can reach all computers available on the campus network get ping responses and everything, but I cannot use a proxy, hence not load off-campus pages.
When I define a new connection and enter my settings (just WiFi-name and the proxy details) I can still establish a WiFi-connection, but get a ping timeout even on the access point and the intranet servers usually available through the WiFi. No SSH login, no intranet, nothing (but I do get an IP assigned & stuff)
Here's what I would like to do in theory:
=> Manually connect to a WiFi-Network called "tuwlan".
. -open network
. -no encryption
. -IP, netmask, gateway, nameserver etc provided automatically by DHCP
=> Establish a SSH2 (SecureShell) connection to our on-campus proxy server and tunnel some ports to get through the Subnets (extremely restrictive) firewall.
. -SSH including port forwarding done with PockeTTY, works like a charm
=> Use Opera Mobile to surf web pages and FTP Sites through the proxy "localhost:40081" (which is forwarded to our campus proxy server through SSH2).
=> The Proxy only knows HTTP(S) and FTP(S), so all other programs (ICQ, Skype etc) are not to use it!
This setup used to work great with older Opera versions, but they removed the proxy setting dialog in favor of directly using the ICM settings.
So now I'm stuck with Microsofts Internet Connection Manager
Can anyone please help me to get this working?
Hi
I'm trying to get my htc touch pro on the school's wifi network. It is such that i have to login with my own details when accessing it on my laptop, and also have to connect through a proxy controlled by the school. I can connect to the network, and input my own login user/pass but i then need to enter a domain, i then need somewhere to input the port which the network uses, where do i do this??? I have to enter proxy info into the browsr on my laptop if it helps.
cheers
please?
the info i need to enter is the following :
My own login/pass/domain (this i input straight after connecting to the network, no problems here)
Proxy information. on my laptop i input this in the connections settings of my browser, under "Lan settings" tab, this is just the proxy port and domain. Where do i put this in my touch pro's settings please?
Settings > Connections Tab > Connections Icon > Advanced Tab > Select Networks Button.
Then press the edit button under "My Work Network" then go to the Proxy Settings Tab and enter your info.
You need to make sure your WiFi network is set to "Work" and not "internet"
You should be able to connect after that.
Let me know how you get on.
By doing this will I be able to connect to MSN Messenger, Skype etc.?

If you schools proxy network allows you to do so.
Well I can connect to above mentioned using my laptop but I just can seem to do it on my HTC Touch Pro. Any idea why?
I work at a private school as an assistant IT and we do not allow phones on the network. That is probably why as most people don't want rogue devices on their network.
Fair enough, thanks for the info guys.
Ok, if you need to connect to a WiFi network with no DHCP service where you are allowed to choose an IP (like your own home network where you want a specific IP), you have to go:
Settings > Connections > WiFi > Wireless Networks > Network Adapters > IEEE 802.11b/g Compatible Wi-Fi Adapter and there change to Use specific IP address and the like.
But the changes you make there, are valid for all your WiFi connections (since they are network adapter related). If you later need to connect to a public WiFi where you can only get an IP through DHCP, you have to go back and change the setting again all over again.
Is there any way/software that can keep these settings per network? Eg. if the network's name is Freenet then use DHCP, if the network's name is Home then use specific IP, DNS, etc.
There's something for windows.. which i'm almost positive will be work for WM.
I will check it when i get home..
Anything ?
nir36, can we please move this to "Networking" in case someone there knows anything? Or should I repost there?
in my network at home is a fritzbox cable router with WLAN. i set DNS to a external DNS Server that is under my control. when i connect with laptops to the WLAN, i can see in the logs on the external DNS Service the requests from the laptop. now when i connect a mobile (android 10, samsung a71) to the wlan, i dont see any DNS requests to DNS Service... i use chrome on android. where are the dns requests routed to? and how can change settings that chrome on android connnected to my WKLAN , should use DNS Settings its get via DHCP from the wlan?

thats for crypting dns requests.
it seems android is not using the dns server from the wlan connection
Android shows your DNS server in your WiFi settings. Click your network and it should be listed somewhere.
Network's DNS server can be bypassed by private DNS settings. Make sure it's set to "off"
Chrome on Android also has an option to use custom DNS, but it's disabled by default AFAIK. Setting is located under Settings > Privacy and security > Use secure DNS. Make sure it's not set to "Choose another provider"
There's also a cool tool https://1.1.1.1/help which should show your DNS provider under "AS Name". Maybe compare results in this URL between your phone and laptop. They should be the same.
