uninstallING DEFAULT apps - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
First of all I don't mean uninstalling just any app by going in to the remove programs but the following:
when you install a rom (... I got the Excalibur NRG Rose v1.4.1 , NICE!) you gets some default programs installed with it , for example in my roms i have window media player, internet explorer, default games, but what if you don't need it?
(for example, i always use the " audio manger" instead of the window player)
I just want to know if theres a way to uninstall default apps that you cant see on the remove porgram that is on your phone.
Thanks, Louis
thanks , Louis

The only way you can rearrange / remove a Roms apps is by using a ROM that is UC compliant and to get the kitchen from the chef a recooking it.
Or by learning how to do it from scratch. No simple way to do this ......

okay.... You would be happen to be a " Chef" ? would you ?

How do I uninstall programs installed by extended rom?

Hi,
How do I uninstall programs installed by extended rom?
for example,Windows live, HTC album, HTC home, and Dailer skin.
They don't show up in the uninstall.
Thanks in advance.
The best way is to Backup your data,
Do a Hard reset: Reset holding down the "com" and "rec" buttons
at the prompt hit "send"
After the setup you have to reset the device before it starts the customization. Then, None of that will be installed.
and if one wants to uninstall internet explorer, windows media player etc..how to ?
i want to try better proggies..
thx in advance...
As they are in the OS part of the ROM (not the extended ROM), you cannot uninstall them. I guess you could look for some ROM which does not include them but I find that unlikely. For starters, I don't know if Pocket IE is needed for the OS. I suspect it may be.
Anyway, you can use other apps. I have PIE installed, but I use Opera Mobile and Netfront which is my default browser.
I don't want to install too many programs....but better ones...it would be great if i can remove certain poor qulty stuff.

It's the stock HTC 6.1 release drivers at this stage! I'll add in improved drivers if / when they come along...

But this means it has the improvements of HTC's (un)official ROM which means spb DDB BitBit performance, right?
Very likely, cause its the latest build.
Need download link to try the rom.

How do i do this?
Also, is there any way to choose where/what folder Cabs install to?
Same bug as the leaked HTC one, text not displayed on landscape mode if cleartype is enabled.
Little else has been changed.

What do yo mean?... Reorganize programs in start menu or program in Program Files folder??...
If it is the menu, you can use Total Commander (free) and navigate to /Windows/Start Menu...
Do what ever you want to...
EDIT: And for the installation location, you can choose to install in internal memory or storage card... All apps will go to Program Files, but some will go to windows folder.

I mean to organize from in the start > Programs Folder
I want to put like all the audio/video programs in a folder called Multimedia or all utilities i.e. advanced config or kaiser tweak into a folder called Utilities.
Ive seen these types of folders on other Roms i've flashed and would just like to organize this one similar to those.

Just go to \Windows\Start menu\Programs, create folders and cut/paste the shortcuts, it's like any Windows.
wow, this thread is really quite... maybe everybody is flocking around the new diamond. well, i find this rom stable and ok for my everyday use. I've use several other rom but i have problem with japanese keyboard (lingvosoft), but i didn't have problem with this rom. maybe some software didn't play well with the keyboard.
Well, it feels like the very first experience with kaiser when using this rom as all about it is stock rom..
cleaning it up a little
Thanks for the clean stock ROM. I like its performance and love the fact that there isn't a ton of stuff added. I've cooked my ROM's using Alex's kitchen in the past and like mine to be even cleaner. Is there any way to remove some of the installed programs? I'd be interested in removing the following:
- sliding sounds
- voice dial
- task manager
- windows update
- apptodate
- messenger
- remote desktop
- windows live

you mean something like this
just go with file explorer(or resco explorer) or any other explorer you use
to
windows/start_menu/programs
and make new folders, named as u want ant cut/past your shortcuts into them
Just to further clarify, this ROM is based off of HTC's (soon to be released) updated Kaiser ROM discussed in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=390748?

yea thats exactly what i wanted. thanks guys
Ok, I'm having a problem with this ROM.
If I stilling SPB PocketPlus I start experiencing lock ups on boot (just as the today screen loads) or cyclic rebooting of the device (ie it just boots, then reboots itself repeatedly).
I "think" I also experienced similiar issues with just SPB Mobile Shell 2 as well.
I say "think" because I havnt done any definitive testing, but I've hard reset my device bloody loads today and I can't bring myself to go throught it again!!
If anyone has experienced similiar issues it would be great ot hear what you did to fix it, or if indeed it is even fixable!!
Cheers.
Syphon
EDIT:
I'm having some weird issues with this ROM, today I found my device sitting there just flashing the screen backlight on and off. I have also experienced the backlight turning off at weird times. It's not as if the power settings just timed out and the screen turned off, it seems to happen randomly (in that it doesnt always happen) but it happens when I press a button or a key. Very strange.
If anyone knows what could be causing this any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
PS.
In the meantime I am going to give the latest official HTC rom a shot, failing that I will fall back to the previous TLR release (which worked ok on my device IIRC).
EDIT:
Doesnt look like I'll be rolling back as the previous TLR ROM is not on the XDA FTP or on his FTP!! D'oh.

[Q] removing programs - best way?

Hi - question from a WM newb.
[phone: HTC Fuze. Da_G 1.7 ROM]
What is the best way to remove programs?
I am aware there is a "remove program" function in the settings. Unfortunately, this seems to either:
a) be unable to remove certain programs
b) leave behind remnants of programs after it "uninstalled" it.
For example - I saw there was a google maps update out today which gives you street view. So I went to m.google.com/maps and installed it from there.
It seems to not have updated google maps at all which is what I was led to believe it would do but installed a whole new google maps (shows up as a "e" icon in my programs labeled "java". really annoying - what is that all about?).
I wanted to remove the old google maps and did so via the "remove programs" utility. It left behind the google maps icon which I just deleted from the windows/start menu/programs. I am left wondering though if I removed everything I could or if it left behind any mess that will slow and clutter my phone in the future?
I have searched and people seem to recommend SKtools to do this job. I was led to believe that it will do a better job but I am afraid it might mess with my registry - and registry tweaks seem to be the norm here (I've already done about a million).
Will SKtools leave my registry alone? Does it only remove registry enhancements that have to do with the program in question? Will altering even that mess with how other programs function? etc etc etc.
What is the best way to remove programs? (AND to remove programs that dont appear on the list like the "E" google maps thing)
thx much
the e icon is for the java emulator, the old version was a JAva one, this one is for Windows Mobile
that icon was created by Esmertic (the name of the java cemulator) for shortcut to Google Maps, else you'll have to go fireup the Emualtor first, then selct Google Maps from it
There are many tricks in SKTools, and yess it corrupts ur reg too, you just have to know what you doing..try PocketMechanic a shot too
hope this helps ya
Cheers
so is it pointing towards an online version of google maps or something, hence the reason why i cant find it to delete it in the first place?
thx
the one from "m.maps..." is a java version i guess, there is anew version in cab format here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=457376
awesome - thats what i was lookin for!
so if i delete that "e" icon will it be ok?

Is it not clear to you that you have two totally different versions installed? You have a native WM app installed and the Java applet version?
Is that what this whole question revolves around??
no thats pretty clear now hehe:
-original question remains: what is the best method of removing programs (stock "remove apps" vs using a program like sktools), i guess wondering if there is sort of a general consensus when it comes to this. (like on a mac I always use appzapper vs just throwing the app in the trash)
-I installed the native wm version and I want to get rid of the java applet version but I am not finding how to remove that version since it doesnt show up on the "remove apps".
thx
Apart from the problem of the "Google thing icon", I was very interested about input on "how to remove programs properly"...
I too am annoyed with the builtin "remove program" function not being able to uninstall anything completely.
Any hint (beside deleting everything manually in registry and file system) ?
Thanks for your help.

Programs keep closing (how to keep them open?)

I know most people want the programs launched to close, but my problem is whenever I open one program (for example icontacts), and then open another program (for example opera mini) the first program (icontact) closes by itself... this happens with almost all software even when I have >8mb memory free. It's annoying because I have to reload the first software...
is it b/c of the ROM i have installed or is there a solution (i would hate to have to format and reinstall everything for this!!)
Thanks
Check if you have HTC Taskmanager or WKTask. These are both popular programs which can be set to make the X button close programs. You can change the settings of either of these programs.
