I purchased a 1800 mAh battery as per thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497159
But [knowingly] my Herbert Richter device specific holder would no longer fit because of the extra width of the battery.
So for information for others, I purchased the Brodit holder that gives the extra clearance at the back to accommodate my 1800 mAh battery. See pictures.
As I already had the HR vent clip (which I like), all I had to purchase was the Brodit holder itself and a 'Brodit/HR 4 prong adapter' that lets you interchange devices between the two manfacturers' mounts/holders.
nice, thanks for the pictures!
when using vent clips dont you run the risk of destroying the vent upon mount and dismount of the device?

Depends how well built (or not as the case may be) your vent is I guess. I've had vent clips on two Jaguars XJs, an Audi A6 and a Range Rover and after a good few years use, the vent still functioned correctly after removing the clip. For me they have be very secure and stable, even on fairly rough terrain.
I just dont like things sticking out from the windscreen; spoils the look of the vehicle interior in my opinion.
You can also get custom mounts (car specific) from Brodit, these are ok too but you'd have to get a new one if you changed your vehicle.

I'm about to buy a GPS receiver from eBay (new), but I'm not too sure on the "magnetic windscreen mount" that comes with it.
Most of the time, you should keep magnets away from electronic devices due to the damage they can cause, but in this scenario should I be concerned?
I had a magnetic holder for my old MP3 player and it caused one of the components to lift far enough off the PCB for it to lose contact. I will admit though, the magnet I had was obviously too powerful - the casing on the back of the MP3 player used to bend outwards. I just can't afford any damage to happen to my XDA 2.
I got a TomTom kit from ebay arrived today (purchased from Uncle_sam) the holder is very flimsy, it broke in my hand and is now useless. I was also supposed to receive a leather case, clip and speed camera detector BUT NOTHING.
Beware this seller!!!!
Having said that the TomTom is pure excellence.
Matt
I have ysed the magnetic holders with xda1 and xda2, works perfectly, just a small very thin plate of metal sticks to te back of the xda and it holds firmly to the magnetic mount on the windscreen, I have had no adverse effects and in my view this is one of the best ways of mounting a pda, the bonus with the xda2 is that you can film stuff from the car as you go along.
Where did you get the magnetic holder from?
Hi,
I brought a magnetic holder at the same time i brought my GPS mouse and chargeing lead from PDAMODS.COM
The magnetic holder is excelent. I have been using it for a long time. As metoined above you get a little metal plate to stick to the back of your device so it has something for the magnet to stick to. However i thought sticking it on the back may make it look a bit ugly. I instead removed the sticky coating and put it under the battery cover. I had to just make it a bit narrower by rubbing it on a knife sharpening stone. This let it fit perfectly and the XDA II looks no different.
The good thing about the mag mount is it is very small and compact, and very quick and easy to place and remove the XDA II.
Thanks for the info - I think I'll treat myself to one of those.
pasive magnets dont kill eletronics like eletro magnets does
because of 2 things
they are in general not as strong
and their field dont variate like electromagnets does

It's absolutely excellent !! and at £10 who can grumble!! I bought two, one for my wifes car as well!
Thats the one i have to and its cheaper than pdamods.com.
Another thing i forgot to mention in my earlier post is the suction is really good. I know a lot of suction mounts can have problems with falling off but this one has never done that yet to me
Wow, thanks for that. I might just do the same.
and there was me thinking that lith-ion batteries can be damaged by magnetic holders??
Just wanted to share my experience!
I bought, original HTC CU S170 Car Upgrade Kit for Touch Diamond. (see pic1)
Witch I love, it fits perfect, great design and build quality!
Then I desided to buy HTC Extended Battery with Cover BP E270 1340 mAh.
And I was curious if it's going to fit to the car holder. Becouse I knew it will thicken the phone aroun 3~4 mm. And it looked, like it could fit! I asked in one thread if maybe people tried it already, but no one replayed!
So, I got my extended baterry today, and I can tell you now, IT DOESN'T FIT!
So, I played around a bit with the solder and a knife. It kind of fits now, but bruzes the back cover a bit, if used a lot would scratch a lot. And the holder doesn't look that nice now (see pic2)
I am sure i mentioned this before in a thread that it doesnt fit and you need to buy the different head for the car kit for it to hold the HTC or any PDA.
what you need is: http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=142067
Herbert Richter GRIPPER 3 Universal PDA/Smartphone Holder, works with the same Herbert Richter arm grip
Yep, like I said in my post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3561219&postcount=13 there are two specific holders for the 900 and 1340 mAh batteries.
You can go for the holder that I changed to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=501678
This fits my 1800 battery so it shouldn't have problem with yours. Brodit holders are expensive though and you'll need to buy a HR/Brodit adapter plate if you still wish to make use of your windscreen stalk.

That's, what I'am going to get I hope it's going to fit my arm without any adapters
sh500 solution would work too, but this one is universal, so let's say if I get a diferent PPC, some tme in the future I could use the same car kit!
Well I'm totally against universal holders because more times than not they are big and bulkly - just my opinion of course. The HR universal will fit directly onto your existing windscreen stalk -without the adapter.
The adapter is this one :
http://www.gpsforless.co.uk/product_details.php?id=5771
It basically converts the Herbert Richter mounts ('four prongs') to accommodate the Brodit ('four hole') clips. You would only need this if you want to keep your existing windscreen mount and purchase the Brodit adapter that I have.
for anyone interseted in how to use the phone as a gps with the offical battery (will probably work with other extended batteries too
when i first had my diamond i got this magnet mount http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php/1345/herbert-richter-magnetic-mount
payed around £18 for it with the suction cup, can't remember the site, but the magnet was too thick for the standard diamond and bought some crazy strong 0.5mm magnets for it to hold it on, but now with the extended battery it fits very snugly between the case and battery and holds very tightly to the holder
i couldn't find any info on using it in the car with an extended battery, and for me thats hte main reason for using the extended battery, i know its silly but i don't like wires trailing in my car to charge it, so the extra 50% usually means i'll be fine! good point about the magnetic mount, i bought a pack of 10 0.5mm magnets whic hare very strong, and i find 8 of those taped inside the cover hold most phones under 100g nicely (well i'm guessing, it holds the diamond easily, can always add more batteries, 4 would hold it on but 8 seemed to make it very solid), so you can swap devices easily if need be
hope its of some use to some people!

Along with a non-fixed verison of the mount that plugs into the cigarette adaptor rather than the car electronics
It's here:

and if you search for the part number online, you get:

to my knowledge, they are not available for shipping...yet

They look good IMO, however I would prefer that I can stick these on my windscreen, it would seem that they have to clip into some holder & clip for your air vents or dash

Contact holders and mounts and they will fix it to a suction bracket for you, if you like
but its costly.
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium Ordered mine from Holders and mounts as well but i'm doing it this way.
Brodit Sony Xperia Z active holder cradle with car charger 5124951 30.83
Herbert Richter Adapter plate Self-adhesive to 4-Holes - 1471 1 2.49
Shipping cost 2.99
Tax 7.26
Then ordered one of these from Amazon.
Herbert Richter Short Gooseneck Windscreen Car Mount £4.99
Total £48.56
Doesn't look like it will hold the phone if it's in any sort of case though.
So i found that if you get the Sprint version of HTC evo LTE car mount and unscrew the pieces and remove the charger port on the mount as well as the grey piece as shown in the pictures. It fits amazing! highly recommended if you have a otterbox commuter on your phone!
Makes a great dash cam..

How effective are the suction cups on your windshield when using this type of car mount? I feel like with all of that weight on it, the suction wouldn't hold very well, especially in hot weather...
Using this one on 3 cars.

Here's my mini review of the Scosche Power Mount:
I've always been a very picky user when it comes to car mounts. I generally hate the suction mount style because I think it'll fall off over time or the windshield glass is too far for my practical hand reach. I also hate the vent mounting system because... well... I want AC air flow. Then there's the cup holder mount... I like to use them for my actual drinks. Then there's the sticky pad mount... which I think gets dirty and loses its sticky pad property and that the dash is far from my reach.(I drive an SUV) So that leaves me with the cigarette lighter ports mount type, which has its own set of problems... Often times the mounting plug is round... so it will "spin slip" and sag your phone when set at an angle. Or that the plug offers such limited functionalities. So you can see my rationale in my picky-ness... lol
Then there's the flexible arm issue... sometimes the flexible arm is cheaply made and is too weak. The arm is too long/short/missing arm.
And... the holder cradle is bulky, non adjustable, no padding for phone, etc.....
But I have found this and am quite satisfied with it:
http://www.scosche.com/mounts/powermount-power-socket-mount-for-portable-devices
Let's go down my concerns and see how it addresses it.
- Plug has a triangular shape to help brace it against something to prevent "spin slip".
- Plug has 2 USB outputs PLUS the pass through cigarette lighter port. My friend can charge even if they bring their own fatty cigarette lighter plug charger.
- The flexible arm is made of tough bendable metal material and has the right length so the toughness can actually support the weight of the extended arm.
- The arm length is there but not super long. It's enough to extend phone to places around the dash from mounting port. I had to still crunch mine up (S curve) to fit because I didn't want it too far from the plug.
- The mounting cradle is a treat! It has a cool spring loaded mechanism to accommodate wide and narrow devices with click locking so it's actually secured.(squeeze in cradle arm to tighten on clicks. Push button in back to release and widen cradle arm.) The foam in the arms create the perfect soft squeeze to prevent slip. Well padded in all regions where your phone would come in contact with the cradle. It can spin 360 on a pre-determined clicks for portrait or landscape mounting. There are actually two little swivel "feet" that can either be hidden flush for landscape mode or extend to support phone when in portrait mode. (Tiny swivel feet are also soft padded!) The cradle is minimal in obstruction, so the common placements of ports on different phones are fully accessible.
I drive an Acura RDX so its a stiff ride and can feel the bumps of the road, which generally causes dangling items in the car such as the extended arm of a car mount to shake and rattle. I'm happy to say that I don't experience shakes on the car mount! Unless, of course, when I drive over large pot holes or go at high speed over speed bumps, which I would be more concerned about other things than my phone shaking in such instances. However, do note that my mounting arm is crunched up in an S shape and is not exactly dangling out like a fully extended mounting arm, so the shaking effect may have been reduced.
There are some drawbacks to this product though. (not everything is perfect)
- The USB ports only charge at 500mA per port, so it might be a tad low for some. However, in practical use, I find that it is enough to overcome the power drain of when I use Navigation and screen on all the time. So when I get out of the car, my phone had increased in charge %.
- It doesn't come with any cable, so you'll have to use your own. I find that the retractable cables work best for length adjustments.
I've been using this for over a year now. I used an iPhone 4 with it and now I'm using my Galaxy S4 with it.
I also bought one for my nephew as he had been complaining about his vent mounting cradle. He's very happy with it!
PS. I'm not in anyway affiliated with Scosche or benefit from advertising for them. I just feel that my search for a perfect car mount can satisfactory end with this device and I thought the OP of this post (or anyone in search of a car mount) could reap from the fruits of my... labor. lol

Is that Lime Creek Road?
Don't have pictures right now but the basic Samsung car mount kit works really well. The mount is pretty sturdy and the phone is held very securely. No annoying shaking of the phone while you drive. Comes with a car charger overall pretty solid piece.

Here's what I did. I have used it with my Streak, Note, and S4 now. Anxiously waiting for an Otterbox to become available for the Active, but in the meantime maybe this will help. It is not the cheapest solution, but being universal, I've used it with 3 phones now over the course of something like 4 years. I no longer need to buy a new mount each time a new phone comes out. I have one in each Jeep, and none of the phones have never fallen out of them, and it is a very solid mount (almost no vibration). Some Jeeps I use a windshield suction cup mount, and some the Proclip as shown here.
The parts I used on this particular one are the following:
http://www.rammount.com/CatalogResu...rtid/082065077045066045050048050/Default.aspx
http://www.rammount.com/CatalogResu...65077045066045050048049085045065/Default.aspx

http://www.proclipusa.com/dashboard...7-2001/proclip-center-mount-852459-13093.cmsv
On the ones with the windshield suction cup I use a longer arm
http://www.rammount.com/CatalogResu...d/082065077045066045050048049085/Default.aspx
And of course the suction cup mount instead of the AMP screw down base and Proclip
http://www.rammount.com/CatalogResu...82065077045066045050050052045049/Default.aspx
I modified the X-Grip by removing the rubber pads, cutting off the original bent arms, and then bending new ones slightly further in, then painting and reinstalling the rubber phone holding pads. When I started down this path, RAM didn't have an X-Grip that fit the Streak or the Note in an Otterbox Commuter or similar. The smaller phone X-Grip might work with the S4, but I don't know. I know that this works, and works well. Hope that helps.
