Build 19199 or Build 5.2.19716 updated FEB 20.2008 seems to be the newer one?
i personally prefer 19716 build but you can try both and figure it out. there was no need to open a whole new thread just 4 this question.
It's a perfectly valid question dude.
Like most people I am frustrated by people asking the same questions again and again, but I am concerned that this forum is in danger of heading down a bad road by bashing noobs at every opportunity.

Yes it's a perfectly valid question to ask in Dutty's thread about his ROM not creating a whole new thread about it.
totally agree.
You could argue this is like asking a parent which one of their kids they like the most!
Best thing is to try both and see which you prefer. There will be advocates for both.
ps don't try that with your kids. it will end you up in jail.
I use each rom on my 2 tilts. I feel that 197 is more stable. 191 sometimes freeze if you push some buttons whil they are booting up. doesn't happen to 197.
No disrespect to anyone here on the board, but Dutty's thread is quickly becoming useless to me. I'm not going to weed through 330+ pages of replies to try to follow a conversation or find a piece of information in there. That thread is quickly becoming it's own universe.
I'm glad this thread was started - It's good information for me that I wouldn't have otherwise found.
Regards,
Jeff

Here's the point....I garuntee if you post in there with a question it will be answered...there's no point in making a new thread....that's all I'm saying.

Posted a question ... no answer.
That thread is bull....
It took me 5 minutes to even find my posting.
The thread might make sense if someone was moderating it ... meaning putting questions into the first post with links to answers. But this? Bull!

Yeah, all threads suffer from this, and I'm also totally agreeing with you, I'm also in the same situation, cannot read hundreds of posts and pages of every ROM thread to find out if it's a suitable one to upgrade to. Trying out so many ROMs until satisfied is not an option for me (ok, I'd admit trying a few, but not every version of every flavour of wm6.1), I want to find one to get rid of my german wm6.0 and have iGo still working, and no issues more than with 6.0.
An updated FAQ in the beginning posts of the respective threads would be useful, but even better, real wiki articles (not just links back to forum threads). Don't want to upset people who discovered the Internet just when these forums where already around, but on mailing lists information and discussions where easier to follow and filter...
Just my 0.2€...
Back to the question: which is the best?
Let me tell you: the new 19716 RTM out to come soon will be the best and fastest ever!!!
Hi Moderators and Senior Memers and all the lovely people of this forum,
I wish if we can have a glossary page at the Wiki for all the new ppl which can have some commonly used terms or Words defined. like OEM, PIE and others..
Though I am quite old to this forum now, but still i find it difficult many times to decipher a particular term used in the forum by Senior people who at times used very technical term.
if we have a glossary, we can avioid new bees posting same old queries again and again..also this way we can aware ppl here about the product they are using.
please respond to this thread, and tell me if i am asking something extra or if we have a glossary page already, Can someone please send me a link.. i will like that to be a bookmarked page.
Many thanks
Loku
I will go ahead and write one up over the next few days and post it. Hopefully it can be sticked and then merged into the Wiki. Perhaps you can post any questions you have to this thread so they can be answered and included.
Thanks for your input.
Thanks much h4waii,
i specifically interested in understanding the USPL and Kitchen terminologies... though i have flashed my VOX with all the Dr. Gonzo's Rom and all versions of NEO by secable. but i really don't understand those pure technical words you ppl use... Its more like Follow the instruction like bible
Thanks again for finding my post a worth
take care
Loku
Wiki has been slightly updated. Please write any and all questions you have about SPL, kitchen, flashing, ROM/RADIO questions you might have. Aboslutely anything, if you thought of them - other people might have and it can be a great help to them. So don't hold back, ask all the 'silly questions' you can think of!
Nice idea...
don't know if it already exists but also including a F.A.Q wuold not be so bad...including the most usual questions like:
Q:"I was trying to flash the XXX rom and i got Image corruption or whatever is..."
A: Have you flashed your SPL.....?
P:S Maybe we would never say RTFM..but we could say RTW( Read The Wiki) LoL...
@h4waii:
Just for the future, when you add a page to the wiki and want to link to it you don't need the full link, just [Glossary|vox_glossary]! Looks better and is easier. OK now start asking questions (never thought I would ever write this)!
Thanks much members..Give me time this coming sunday.. i'll have my list prepare.
Just to share my VOX would have been just abother phone of mine, had i not discovered this forum. It made me love my phone just too much
thanks all
loku
@frauhottelmann:
Ah, thanks and thank you for changing it.
Once a good amount of questions are put and answered, I will contact a moderator to have the title adjusted and stickied.
@lokeshmudgal:
We await your questions to fill you with knowledge! Teehee.
Hello to all ,
Well i was jus siting and looking at all the ROMs around so jus gave it a thought that can;t we have a thread where is we post the name of all the current running ROMs for Kaiser which is most prefered and feedback to the chef to make it better..
i know i am really a Jr. to think so much for as i jus have a a new Kaiser.
But then jus give it a thought and post the ROM which is in your Kaiser/TYTN II / TILT ... and the one you feel is great..

It's all down to personal opinion, there are plenty ROM's to choose from, flash flash & flash till you find the one that you like...
You can aslo just check people sigs and the chefs get comments in there threads.
Hi, we are currently discussing the pros and cons of such a thread in the "About" forum here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=466666
At the moment I am using PDACorner v14. A lot of members post their ROM versions in their signatures.
As I said in the other thread, this sort of discussion is very subjective. I'd recommend you watch the forum and try some of the newer ROM's to get a feel for what you like. That's how I do it

I truely agree to what you say we aren't here to make others decide and impose the ROMs we like but to express our experience to the ROM we are using... and why we like the ROM we are using...

Hats off to your work....
since ive been a member i personally think anyone who spends ther time to cook up and share with us all deserve a pat on back [or a donation how ever small]and like it says in first of any posts...search search...search
I recommend closing this thread... This is NOT a chat room... There are plenty of reading material in every Cooked ROM thread, that would enhance anybody's knowledge of which ROM people are using or not using and WHY...
My thing is, I am rather new to the ROM-flashing thing. I've quickly learned alot about how to do all this, and now what I'm lacking is a cohesive sense of what ROMs are out there that I can try on my phone - I haven't the time or the inclination to scroll through dozens of pages back through the Kaiser forum looking for ROMs to try. It would be nice to have a single sticky thread where all the available Kaiser ROMs are listed (in the Kaiser forum, and other similar threads for other phones in the other forums) that just hyperlink to the appropriate thread for each ROM.
What that gives the Noob especially is a list of all the ROMs they can try. I'm just guessing that I've seen even 1% of the available ROMs. I have no idea if I'm choosing one I really like, or one I settle on because I can't find the rest.
It's really little more than a question of convenience. By having a single list of all the available Kaiser ROMs, it makes it easy for me to look at them all and choose one. Such a thread does not need any discussion to be allowed, it's just a source of information. If people want to discuss a ROM, they can discuss it in the thread that is linked to from the main list.
Does this make sense?

Apologise to those who think of closing the post but my intension was jus to let every express the ROM they use cause not every one uses the ROM anD Radio VER on there signatures..
Also it would let know that who uses which ROM , I am sorry to see that this is driven into a conterversy ..
Trolling for regulars
vikasraj dont worry mate this board is chock full of regulars who belive that anyone who comes here should read every single post, of course it is perfectly reasonable to ask for a quick list of popular roms but that would be far too easy and lets face it give the sad regulars nothing much to read, I wouldn't pay too much attention to the regular users here apart from the flashing info, they really don't add much apart from stupid pointless 'read the board' comments, I am here to find a new rom (the last one all the regs said was great is buggy as hell) and yes a rom chart would have saved a lot of time. Like you I have a life.
Forum a dictionary meaning
A medium of open discussion or voicing of ideas
Did not the original message fall into this meaning.
By its very nature the posting of Roms is trying to compete with other roms.
So a thread that simply rates roms would be a good idea and give constructive comment and possibily the sort of feedback the rom builders are looking for and why they do what they do.
It would also help those that want to extend their experience, and not get frighten away by high minded comment.
Thats All
I suggest thread starter to just see the benchmarking of Kaiser ROM's done by one of Our friends out there in the kaiser forum. I will provide link whenever I get it but its better for now to search yourself for it. Go by facts & not by values. Hope it will help you. Good luck. I think we should move forward to help cookers in making ROM better.
Sorry but I could able to find only these ones.

Why are we doing this again ? I understand that people are (especially it seems the noobs ) incredibly lazy. No one wants to do their homework, no one wants to test drive. no one wants to think. Everyone wants someone else(no matter what their qualifications) to tell them what is the best.
The chefs here do not make these roms for you or me. They make these roms for the challenge and for themselves and then they share them with us. How offensive would it then be , to subject them to a competition .
It would be like going to a Hot Rod or Custom car show and judging people's hours , months or years of artistic and engineering work with a dismissive " that one sucks, not enough cup holders " guess what ? It wasn't built for you, it was shared with you. Your opinions are yours, why should chefs be forced to confront these ( mostly uninfomed opinions ) in a public forum.
Every rom has it's own thread to rate and evaluate the rom, and to try to work out whether it is the rom that is at fault or the user. That is more than enough discussion for the chefs to improve the rom.

Although getting some people to actually do this .........( with 7 total posts ) one wonders how much effort was put into identifying the source of these " bugs ."
These are the type of comments we want our chefs to be subject to on a concentrated thread ?

Dave, if you are asking, I vote no, for subjecting our much appreciated chefs. to a beauty contest or prom king type thread for the benefit of the "lazy "
Just my opinion. Thanks for listening
this would be fine topic in the Kaiser generall forum. (alot of the people who hate these types of threads cluttering up the boards like myself dont generally read the generall forum very often I believe)
This isa rom DEVELOPMENT forum. Ie if your not either posting a new rom in development or about the process of cooking and development.....you should not start a new thread here. The Kaiser generall forum is a great place for this type of discussion.
also a good way to get a overall list of the most popular roms would be to sort this forum by how many posts a thread has....click at top. And that will continue to be useful as long as people only post new roms and development related topics in here.
This topic should be moved to the kaiser generall forum and it would be taken much better/ignored by the more senior members/admins

Why did you post this?
Does it's based on number of post or viewers who's came to related ROM threads? Why don't we just do polling or something? But i guess member here rarely used only one ROM, it's keep changing

What is the big deal? ......What , is he taking much needed space away from all the new 6.5 roms coming out ? Look around, things are kind of slow around here with links being taken down, chefs canceling their new 6.5 releases
This is not a "what is best thread," it merely consolidates all the chefs in one area,.........If it is tagged right, now all a noob has to do is come to rom development, type " popular roms " into search and he will come right to this page, to link and compare. No harm, could be helpful.
Don't forget ansar's roms, get the link in my signature.
Make this sticky!
Maybe add older but good ROMS like dutty's, Laurentis, etc!
I didn't expect to be flamed for making a post that would help me. If it helps me then I'm sure it would help others here on the forums.
I'm not claiming these are the best ROM's, What I did was sort the forum by number of posts and then started listing, I skipped over the threads that was old but apparently some of those ROM's are still used so I'll include those too.

your not really being flamed its just that this is rom development forum and your thread has nothing to do with that,or with even aiding in rom dev. maybe you should put this in the kaiser-general forum?
The only problem is I don't think noobs are going to use the search function in the general forum to find a popular rom list. They are going to come here, to rom dev. Yes they could just go up and down the forum threads looking at post totals for different roms, but we all know clueles noobs.
I would love for them to be able to input "popular roms " into the search function and have them be directed to a list. Or as we get the inevitalbe " what is the best rom " question, which gets asked here, more than in the Kaiser general forum " here is the list of popular roms ", " follow the links and test and compare for yourself "
Could be helpful.
Once upon a time, XDA made this thing, it was grand, it's called THE WIKI.
Where there is already an extensive ROM list.
Instead of making a new thread, update the WIKI.

And that is why the thread is not called " every rom ever written for the Kaiser " because that is in the wiki. Lets face it when the noobs come to this Kaiser forum, they are looking for the latest and the greatest, the stuff all the other kids are using.
They are not looking or willing to to filter through yesterdays news just to get the newest stuff. Don't get me wrong, Leo, Dutty, NATF, and all are legends and always will be, but they have moved on. In some cases the chefs are not even supporting their old threads that are still listed in the wiki.
We hear enough complaints as it is about all the old info a noob has to go through to get the " new stuff ".
This is kind of a thanks and props to the guys that have stayed behind and still support us, and a thanks to the ( Josh, KaiserII101, ngy ) new chefs stepping up, by moving them to the top of the " every rom available for the Kaiser" list .

Not meaning to be a jerk with so many posts, I'm just sayin............
I've got to admit that this thread helped me find a good naked ROM, namely AthineOS. I probably would have found it in the end but who knows how long that would have taken?

and that stuff 9 times out of 10 is on the 1st or 2nd page of the kaiser forum, hence threads like these AREN'T needed.
edit: not to mention that this is the "Kaiser Rom Development forum" not a come and get it/heres your menu forum, these "kids" need to be searching/learning before they EVER think about flashing a rom. or all you get is theses spoon fed "kids" not reading/searching, bricking their phones more than they do now!!!
<soapbox>
I've been lurking XDA for quite some time, have read countless threads, and flashed numerous ROMs. I'm no chef/expert, but I'm not a n00b either. My visits to XDA are far from regular and usually involve either obtaining a new ROM or checking on the status of Android on the Kaiser. I greatly appreciate the work of everyone who cooks ROMs, administrates the forum/wiki, or just generally puts in time to help the community, and try to stay out of the way unless I have a good question or something useful to add. I use the search function and the wiki religiously. In short, I'm probably a good example of the typical XDA visitor. Here's my opinion:
@Fingerlickin: Thank you. The effort is appreciated, but I don't imagine you'll want to come back and update this every few months. If you make a new wiki page or add the popularity info to the existing ROM list, other people can update it in future. Then, you could just edit your post and make it a link to the wiki (or have the mods add the link to the FAQ) so that it comes up in forum searches.
@Travito & msd24200: You say that a more extensive list can be found elsewhere and that a post like this doesn't belong in the ROM development forum. With all due respect, I think you are missing the point. Fingerlickin didn't post a list of all ROMS, he posted something of a Top 8 list. It wasn't intended to be comprehensive.
Could he have updated the wiki instead of making a new post? Sure, but (at the time of this post) that page was last updated in January.
Could any given XDA visitor get this information on their own? Yes, but it can be confusing, frustrating, and time consuming. ROM authors and update threads change, and some of the most popular ROMs are no longer maintained.
Should this be somewhere else? I don't believe so. If I'm interested in getting a ROM, I go to where the ROM developers post them. They don't post in Kaiser General, so I don't go there for ROMs. Naturally, I wouldn't expect to find a list of popular ROMs there, either.
Frankly, I think the FAQ actually has too much info, especially since there's a wiki with all of that (and more). As for the wiki, it's not the easiest thing to navigate. For example, a search for "Kaiser" brings up a list of pages, but should I click the HTC_Kaiser link, or the Kaiser link? If I'm looking for info on Kaiser ROMs, do I choose KaiserROMs or Kaiser_ROMs? KaiserROMs directs me to see either Kaiser Cooked Roms or Kaiser Shipped Roms, the latter being a link to the Kaiser_ROMs page.
My point is simply this: Fingerlickin's post lists several of the most popular, and still updated, ROMs. This info is not available on the wiki or in the FAQ, and pertains directly to the ROMs developed and posted on this forum. It might be easier to maintain if it were on the wiki, but it might end up harder to find. It's definitely not redundant or in the wrong forum, and it IS a time saver.
</soapbox>
Exactly all the most up to date things will be within first 2 pages and even if not then surely it's worth putting in the effort to find a ROM that you want and like, by that i mean to do a bit of research read some of the reviews flash it and then probably go somewhere else and flash untill you find the ROM that suits your needs and wishes, blah blah too many threadz with Help\Fastest ROM\Best ROM or just posted in the bloody wrong section.
Blah Blah Blah..............
msd24200 where's that cat when you need him?
DamionFury: I read it all and you have some valib point but time consuming is all part of it your flashing a UK £200ish phone............. Take some time, do some learning..... You don't need to use the search for Kaiser ROMs go through the pages of ROM Development and you can just flip & flip & flip till you find what you want???
I enjoy using my phone when it has a ROM that I like; I don't enjoy spending hours finding that ROM. I have far too many things I'd rather be doing. I spend the time finding the ROM because I believe that it's worth it, but anything that reduces the expenditure is great in my book.

It's definitely not redundant or in the wrong forum, and it IS a time saver.

and again there is no point to be missing the fact is this is a rom development thread not a come and get it and here's the menu thread. THIS HAS BEEN GONE OVER AND OVER AND OVER so many times. the roms that are "hot" will always be on the first couple of pages of the forum because so many use them they don't have time to drop back to page 3. you guys that want to spoon feed should start your own website linking back to the rom threads on here then. and as far as the wiki goes it's all there and ANYONE can update the wiki at anytime.
Why are themes mixed with applications? It's a mess...
Why can't there be one section for themes and other for applications?
I won't say it a mess but Yes, that would be better...
Agreed. There is too much stuff going on with HD2 now, and the biggest problem is the new things fall back and many of the users even don't see the new posts.
I agree.
I´ve been here since Kaiser forum was the "hottest" thing on XDA, but even that is nothing in comparison of the "hottness" of Leo's forum.
Sometimes good things almost get lost with all those topics popping out during the day.
So far, i thank RSS, but separated Apps and Themes fora would be nice.
+1 too Apps & Themes should be separated for easier view or search.
I think thats a great idea
People will still ignore the forum titles and start threads where they want to.
Take this one, for example. It should not be in the themes and apps forum of the HD2 as it has diddly-squat to do with either the HD2, themes or apps.
There is a forum for this type of conversation.
Like I said - people will post where they want. You'll just get used to it.
Saying that, you could then have a forum just for tweaks...
The idea is good.... But Johncmolineux is right, it will change nothing....
Xda is like Ali Baba's cave... It's a big mess, but a mess I finally like. At the end I always find what I'm looking for.

I've tried to find a place to post this and did not succeed. And if this is about this section, it's not that wrong to be here. But I've posted here not because I simple want but because I did not find a suggestions section. An Apps and a Thread sections inside the HD2 section of XDA will be very easy to find.
By that way of thinking we should not have 4 HD2 sections, we should only have one... since people make mistakes in where to post...

That's ridiculously easy to find. You just look.

Yeah, I've seen that. But wasn't sure if it was for suggestions about the forum. And then, if I post there probably most of the users of the HD2 sections will not see it.

Surely you're making a suggestion about the site, not the HD2, which is why you should post it in a forum that is for the site. That's all.
There's actually a thread in that forum for suggestions for the mods. That's the best place to ask a question that relates to the site.

Can anyone move this to there then?

I disagree, John.
Of course you're correct in as much as SOME people (particularly people new to the site) will always start threads where they want to. But I would say that MOST people (particularly experienced posters) stick to the rules regarding posting new threads in the correct section and those who don't quickly have the errors of their ways pointed out to them!
I also disagree that this particular thread is 'out on place' in the Themes and Apps section. The OP wanted to gauge feeling amongst current users of this section as to his suggestion of splitting the section into two. Who's going to see it if it's hidden away somewhere else on the forum?
Just my thoughts... No criticism of others' opinion meant...
Btw... I would also be in favour of a split.
I would like to see this happen too, but im sure it would be hassell for anybody that needs to get it uptodate/tidy!

Yes it would need some hard work... But we could keep this actual sections as the themes section for example, and then the users would report the threads that needed to be moved, that way the moderators won't need to be checking all threads...
What about having actual MODERATORS on this forum??? Cause all those topics that are made dubble and dubble each and every single day are driving everybody crazy I know that for sure!! I scroll down through one page on the forum in 1 minut cause of all the same things I am reading over and over again!
Why isn't the policy here actually being applied??? Why aren't the moderators HARSHER?? (if there are moderators cause I only have seen one here on the Leo's forums).....
I am sure 90% of the people here think like me, especialy when there ar epeople who only register to this forum to make a topic and ask a question and don't bother to search and when they got their answer never bother to look on tthis forum again.......
Really, the policy should be looked after and there should be at leaste 5 times more moderators than there are now!!!
We are missing the important threads through all the b*ll**** and sorry to say this but some people don't have time to spend hours a day on this forum! We have to work/study, I am sure many agree with me!
