So I have been trying out all of these roms for about a year now, learning how certain things work, which is fast, responsive, and looks sexier than my girl LOL. So far i have come to love the OTP roms and PDAViet roms (i just wish they could team up together on a super clean rom), but now i just want MORE! so i guess if i cant find one out there that i can be totally satisfied with, might as well just learn how to cook one. I wouldn't consider myself to be a noob, but i also wouldn't consider myself to be an expert cook. If anyone would like to help or give any feedback, i would greatly appreciate it.
Are you going for super stripped like my ROMs? Or a mix of stripped and OTP and PDAViet ROMs?
I tried to mess with the 6.5 on here with HyperCore to no avail. I'm a noob as far as Rom cooking goes. I messed around with some other Roms here to get use to it. Mainly wanted a smoother running 6.5 with my favs (Youtube, Opera, etc.) but when I used HC and the tutorial, it came out to like 8.5GB and got stuck on packaging (no Packaging.Sof). I did however get the pagepool down to 4MB like another member did and did see some mediocre results with an overclock to 299Mhz. I haven't seen the new ThrottleLaunch Morph yet, but I'm still learning. Good luck. I'll let you know if I get anything on it.
Update! unable to cook the rom!
so my last post was announcing my first rom, but tragically i broke my wing that same day due to an argument with my significant other (who knew you can break the phone in 5 different pieces when thrown). To answer Ivan's question though, i wanted the rom to have the smoothness of OPT with the memory and layout's of PDAViet's WM6.5, and add a custom flair if possible. Ive noticed certain flaw's in roms that could be an easy fix if pointed out... I do believe that if someone where to take PDAViet's WM6.5 rom and cook TL Morph into it, it might actually work a little faster. Also i have noticed that since a lot of PDAViet's roms are imports, the T-Mobile Cert's are not installed. This can cause the auto update of time and date to be incorrect as well as messaging and other functions U.S. members would use. If anyone would want to take over this project, by all means, i will greatly appreciate it... and to put my two cents in, the only real problem with it is the scripting and porting of import to domestic. To put it in other words, its like taking a JDM Honda Type R and making it a domestic Acura Type R (for those who understand cars). The parts are there, its all about putting it together. Have fun guys and I MISS MY WING!... now time to wait till the G2 comes out so my girl can buy it for me

I need help choosing a ROM, this is my first time. Memory doesn't matter, I have SD card. Hoping for some extra programs, good wifi, and stable, I don't want it to freeze too often. Battery life doesn't matter as long as it lasts a FULL day. Let me what you think is best, so far I like the wizard titanium, but people tell me its too old. What do you think? ALSO, IT HAS TO BE WM6! THNAKS!!!

If I had to recommend a fast stable rom with some nice extras, I would have to say TNT.1437 is one of the best. It has plenty of nice little extras and is one of the most complete and stable rom's I have used. I have been using it for the last 4 months and only switched Roms to test new releases and then always to back to the 1437 build. I personally like the TouchFlo version.

Very true, the best ever Rom I have tried so far and specially the 10mb ppool
I spent a fair bit of time re-working TNT 1437 to suit my own needs and preferences. I have relatively easily moved from TNT 1437 to 1921 and recently to 1933; each time having to make some modifications to it's right Base ROM. However since he has kept the ROMs reasonably consistent between versions my time spent modifying has decreased somewhat.
My choice of ROMs would be it's right's 1933 Base and my own customisations. Most ROMs are likely to have something you don't like or don't want and I think it is now so easily to learn how to cook your own the best option is to build your own using one of the bases available. That way it will be the 'best ROM' for you.
For me, I will be sticking with it's right 1933 base for the time being as I have had very few issues with it, plus he has worked hard integrating the original 5.2.318 drivers into it, oh and it's (currently) the latest
My 2 cents..
Andy
I use XM6r3, it has given me no problems at all. I have tried many other roms and felt this was the best for my needs. Are there faster roms? I did like tnt, I tried a couple different builds (including touchflo which I don't care for) and after configuring and installing all my normal things, XM6r3 seemed to run faster. Available memory was almost =. I do like some of the bug fixes TNT has.
You think your question should be easy to answer, but really your asking what is the best car manufacturer, who has the best tasting beer. In time you will find one you like. I initially flashed my brains out with everything I could get my usb cable on, but now, I just want something that gets it done.

What kind of modifications did you make to the TNT.1437 Rom? I have been using it for some time and love it but for whatever reason I can't seem to get any of the many available kitchens to work on my computer whether it be on my Vista partition or my XP partition. Neither work.
Ok, I want to thank everyone for all your help. Also, charile_mx, if you didn't have any advice for me, you shoudn't have posted anything at all, there was no reason for you to post the stupid comment. So far I like the wm6 tnt touchflo edition, it looks nice, but im going to do more research on it first. how stable is it? Does it open apps quick, and can I open 2 or 3 apps at onve without it freezing?

The best thing that you can do for yourself is simply read up on everything involved with your wizard first. Is it unlocked? Is it G3 or G4? Does it have an IPL and SPL higher then 2.XX ? Please don't answer these questions to me. I am simply giving you some things to follow up on in your research, so that you can avoid ending up with a Brick.
Personally I have been using my own cooked Cross bred version, although I really like the look of It's Right 1933. I may have to cross breed something there.
Good Luck

Nothing too major. I modified a few .RGU files to remove some settings I don't like (Wireless on the Today screen is one I can think of), replaced the various TNT skin customisations with the default ones, replaced the Calc1 with the original Calculator, removed the themes and added my own, customised my own 'Office Mobile' folder, added battery status with my own settings, removed some unused applications and replaced them with some of my own. I replaced some of the included packages with the same ones I have that I have had continued sucess with - i.e. the various media related packages that all have reliance on certain codecs and system files that everyone seems to have issues with (Audio Manager, Voice Recorder, Streaming Media, Camera & MMS). I also included my Personal Stuff and locale settings in a custom .RGU file as well as changed the Autorun stuff to launch my own extended ROM. Oh and I have my own custom splash screens (which it took me a while to get installed and it really pi$$ed me off when I used to install a new ROM and these got overwritten..... )
Basically when I flash my ROM (or hard reset) there are minimal changes that I need to make and no software to manually install to get it back the way I like it (my VoIP settings, a Certificate and TT get installed from my extended ROM).
I am currently using the 'HyperCore' kitchen but have used others with similar results. Using the HyperCore you must follow the instructions since it is easy to miss a step and end up with a partially 'dead' Wizard.

Starting this thread was a bad idea. Sorry I didn't saw it yesterday
Reasons :
[*]This has been posted too many times before.
[*]The "Best ROM" for you is the one YOU like most. You'll have to try a few on your own to figure out which one works best for you.
[*]Everybody will give you different answers so you won't get much out of it.
[*]ROMs don't act the same on all devices. One ROM that works perfect on my device it might not work the same on yours or any other one here. You don't trust me ? Do a benchmark on your PDA..then ask someone else to do a benchmark on his PDA with same ROM and you'll see differences.
In case that didn't convinced you, here's a small list of similar threads :

The list can continue. "This is but a fraction of the monster..."
I have tried all 6.1 rom's DCS, Dutty's, (all versions) in the past two days. Got dropped calls, phone powering out in a call on all of of them, some wouldn't sync etc, basically 6 roms, ALL failures. And yes, I switched 5 radios, still no go. Whatever is in that vodafon rom is useless.
So I went back to Sleuth 6.1, it syncs, and calls don't drop (Both pretty important in a phone PDA wouldn't you say?)
So a simple poll:
this is a good rom yes, however juding all the posts and threads about unwanted threads dont be hurt if u get flammed. post praise in the proper area ie. the thread sleuth started
Hard to choose...
Is very hard to choose... all are very good players....
Sleuth's is my choice, at the moment...
Thank to all of them!!
I say cheers to all cooks. With bugs or without all these guys work hard on the roms and all deserve a pat on the back. And some money in their pocket.
I am using Dutty's 6.1 and 1.58.26.20 and it is the best combination I have used yet. Battery life was extended greatly and I do not have any issues with dropped calls or anything.
Answer to all
Here it is a nut shell.
"TO EACH HIS OWN"
mikeycollins13
yes yes with all my fingers up i agree w you
till now sleuths rom are the best for me
Dont forget schaps!! lol
hello friends.. I think there are a lot of good chefs! But sleuth, dutty and schaps are the best...
Im waiting for a new version of schaps wm6.1 to test...
I've always wondered what others are running. I know that choice of ROM is personal user preference. There's no 'better rom' as it's all subjective. But I've always wondered what others have chosen to go with. I'd like to see this poll expanded to include more Chef's ROMs. Or maybe a Poll on WM6.1 based ROM's and another based on WM6 ROM's.
I'm personally gathering data on all the popular WM6.1 ROM's and putting the 'installed applications' in a list, a side by side Excel spreadsheet comparing the difference software and their versions that each Cook has chosen to use. This way I get a 'birds eye view' a simple comparison table, showing me which ROM has what and what versions. I'm also taking note on the base they chose. I to don't like the Vodaphone base, I've tried L26's ROM and Dutty's ROM, both are solid, but I could tell that the base was a cause of a lot of my issues (both Vodaphone based). Sleuths 3.02 base rocks, although not the latest WM6.1 build, it's solid and quick.
I think I may end up throwing in the towel and learning how to cook myself. There's bits and pieces out of each ROM I like and dislike, I'd love to combine them all into a personal ROM that's perfect for my needs, everything I like, nothing I don't. Anyways,if anybodys interested in my Excel comparison or the things I like and dislike about each ROM, just PM me. If anybody knows of a list already, PLEASE IM me so I don't waste 2 hours comparing and making notes
If you are happy with a ROM, just sit on it and enjoy its features... No matter how great a ROM is, it has its limitations.
I must have flashed over 100 times, three tilts among a series of HTC phone creations. I guess I am settling down and perhaps I will refrain from flashing for a great while.
I am using Dutty's Hybrid of April 1st. It is by far the most stable and robust ROM I have used. I added few programs to boot and am very satisfied with the way the ROM is behaving.
Just remember it is just a phone... Not a music box, a movie theater, Lost Finder, Can Openner... Primarily it is a phone, and it will never replace your PC or laptop. so just relax and enjoy the summer...
My 3 cents....
Word of a wise man. I may just sit until WM7 and have some good wine.
That is true. I do not flash very often anyways, I just hate having to personalize everything again! I haven't tried that auto thing the new roms have, but I have set it up (I haven't flashed a new rom since I put that text file in my SD card). I assume it will make it less of a pain.

I no longer flash as much as I used to. Started realizing that I was spending more time flashing and reconfiguring than actually using my phone (also why I've chose not to cook on the Kaiser right now). I was on Confused Stu's Mobile Vista v1.1 for over a month (first time I had seen some of my apps start running out of their trials and having to enter in the auth codes I have for them. LOL) before I upgraded to his v1.3 (and to be honest the only reason I flashed to that was I was helping him beta test it and wanted to run it for a week before recommending it to some friends that are wanting to upgrade their Tilts).
I do truely appreciate all those here that do flash and test constantly (AllTheWay immediately comes to mind here... ). But for me, I'm happy to watch the new roms come out, read what works and doesn't for awhile, then move to somethng new when I see something I'd like to have, and avoid minor issues that I know would drive me up the wall after others find them (I use my phone as a tool for work, so while the latest can be cool, if parts of it don't work (or don't work well) then it defeats what the device is supposed to be for me).
I primarily stick to Dutty's too. It's nice when a new version comes out because all the apps are updated or new. That's about the only reason I reflash to a different ROM.
You would not say that if you had the Samsung - here's the link:

I try to refrain from flashing too many times too but sometimes new ROMs are just too juicy to avoid.
Perhaps I may have outgrown the habit a little bit that in the sense I now have preference for what features I look for and furthermore who the chef is.
you are not right
mine is a coffee maker...
a shuriken...
a thing to carry in my pocket...
and lots more
I actually don't mind flashing new ROMS, its more of a hobby. Now that there's UC thanks to Sleuth, theres minor personaliztions to do (eventually i'll take the time to dig deeper into UC for settings, at which point i'll have none).
I like seeing different styles of ROMs, and seeing what types of things people are tossing in. Excited about Schap's!
I too have styoped flashing my kaiser that much I use my prophet for that....
I flashed some roms when I first got my Kaiser but then went back to my personal coocked rom. I've had that on for months but have now changed it to my Throttle rom and it's been on my phone for a week already.
It's a phone and will always be a phone but this android thingy looks intresting ... well mainly because it can be done not that I might get any use of it.
Not me. I'm gonna flash until I find one that will do Everything, including fixing me a drink.
Turkey 101 & Sprite.

That's funny. I would periodically forget that my Kaiser is a phone when it doesn't ring. Just about two months ago when I upgraded to a Kaiser from a Herald, I switched to AT&T from Tmobile .... primarily for the (3G) data plan and selection of phones of course. As of lately, I found myself flashing less and less because (my opinion) I believe that the roms coming out are now are basically bug and minor fixes, perhaps a minor speed increase to previously cooked roms (which is good). I will perhaps flash again once a rom is cooked that can wash my car, pay my bills. .
Regardless, I think this site is awesome because it brings together some of the most (if not all) creative chefs in the business that would put those in M$/HTC to shame. Just my two cents.
i flashed shaps rom the day i got this phone.. i hadnt changed it until his 6.1 beta. really didnt like it so ive flashed all the 6.1 roms i could find. cant wait for his new build either.
Naturally, the last ROM I've flashed is my own
It's been about two months now and after all that WM6.1 testing, I'm not even sure if I really want to make another ROM once WM6.1 is officially shipped and on the HTC website.
As I've said in mfrazzz's thread, making your own ROM really does scratch the itch.

It already does this... Is called "Texting the Wifey".
Just like several opinions posted here, I will probably never stop flashing my Tilt to the latest and greatest ROM. (My co-workers actually maintain a "flash count" on their white boards )
With that being said, I flashed NoThrills ROM when it came out back in March, and kept it until several days ago until Dutty's Apr 09 release. I will most likely refrain from flashing until someone can best Dutty's latest attempt. That person will not be me because I don't have the attention span to cook my own personal ROM.
BTW, congrats on the Mod bump Alex! Now you get to close redundant threads and spew witty comments like Kyphur!

Just wondering how many people are like me and couldn't care less about the stability of their phone, as they have a second one, or are hermits that simply like the shiniest new toys.
I think it was Gullum that said he cooked the m3d beta into a rom and it was faster than not, so who all would be interested in a rom like that? All the software is mega buggy, but cooking it in might make things a little less crashtastic.
On a similar note, before I dust off the kaiser kitchen I barely used, are there any chefs working on this, or have one laying around? I'm really not too good at such things, which is why I previously gave up the misguided notion of cooking a while ago.
i dont mind most of the small bugs but the backlight issue is a deal breaker even for me
Fine With Me
I have an extra phone and never had that much sense anyway. Seriously, since I've been flashing my Kaiser and experimenting and probably moving towards fiddling with cooking a ROM (everyone starts somewhere), it would be a learning experience for me. I would like to try the beta.
I would love a ROM with all the features of HyperDragon III, but with the use of Manila3D instead. For me HDIII ROM is perfect in all the features it provides, so it would be hard to flash another ROM unless it incorporates the same functions.
Meanwhile, you can download / understand the bugs / follow the progress of Manila 3D here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=430718
@cheezeman: each of us have different expectations from a ROM, let's not take absolute references.
Thanks! To everyone here that contributes and to everyone who has wrote ANYTHING that I have read that has helped me. I have been "hacking" phones for years. It all started with the Razr, one of the first phones I back in the day ... I have done so much reading and surprisingly I was able to install many cooked roms without the need to post any questions. There are MANY detailed tutorials around here. I read what I needed to and looked around.
I didn't really get into installed cooked roms until about 3 days ago. In those short 3 days I have went through 3 or 4 different roms/themes/setups just to get it EXACTLY how I wanted it. Right now I am using:
NFSFAN's WM 6.5.5 23541 SYS/XIP GENERIC CARRIER ROM with SENSE UI 2.5 on a Verizon Touch Pro.
This is the 4th one I have used and I will tell you why. I am on Verizon( ugghhhh I live in Montana I really have no other choice). And with the phone being so crippled(Took out memory and other stuff compared to Sprint, from what I read) I was unable to use a couple different Roms. I WANTED to use them, I LOVED the look, but with everything installed the phone was SO lagged it was nearly impossible to use. On a sprint phone it would of been AWESOME I think. It might not of even been the rom, something might have been wrong when I installed it. I tried MightRom6 and I did like it, the only reason I switched is because I wanted the "Sense" instead of TouchFlo, I don't know why, I just wanted something new, but I LOVE it.
Right now with this cooked rom, and tacchan23's Sense Theme and Top bar I LOVE it. Run's fast as hell. Faster then the Stock rom. Looks AMAZING. Smooth. I LOVE Sense. Right now my phone is set up exactly how I want it. Sense is way better then TouchFlo IMO.
To anyone who is new to installed cooked roms and is on Verizon I highly suggest NFSFAN's Rom if you want Sense, or Mighty if you want TouchFlo(Might is still a little faster from what I can tell, But just doesn't have the look and feel that I want). I wish I had sprint because from what I hear their phones have more memory, and from what I encountered will be able to run certain roms that a Verizon HTC touch Pro won't(I could be wrong).
Anyway, Thanks to everyone who is wrote a tutorial or anything. Thanks to everyone who has worked on ANY cooked rom. Big props to all cooks, they have amazing skills!
Awesome site and awesome job on everything!
Welcome to forums
Nice words for 1st post
Thanks . I've been browsing for over a year, I signed up pretty much a year ago, mainly used this place for simple questions. But I got into the cooked rom scene pretty fast. I was tired of installing all these programs to "customize" my layout, just to slow down my phone even MORE. I love these roms because, not only do I get more functions and a better look than my stock rom, but It is WAY faster, which is really nice. I HATE stock verizon rom. It's ugly, slow, and everything about it is lame. I have tried Wisbar/WBA Desktop/ MObile Shell 3.5, I like them ,but they all slow my phone down WAY to much. Now after I install a cooked rom, I install PhoneX, S2U2 and SMS-Chat, and that is all I need. My phone looks perfect and I am not suffering a loss of resources!
Big props to all the work that is done around here.
