Hey
I've got this ASUS smartphone I'm giving away (its got a cracked screen) - and because its ASUS I cant flash it.
Is there a way to wipe the Messages, Contacts and email settings through activesync, I can see program files windows dirs etc...?
Thanksn
you can hard reset it. just search for the combination of how to hard reset your asus and you'll be ok.
The only way for this phone is through the phone interface of which I cannot access (http://www.hardreset.eu/asus_p750_hard_reset_soft_reset_en.html)
Doesn't make sense. there's always a way to hard reset using the Hardware buttons only since a Hardreset is supposed to solve the issue of having problems using your touchscreen or the Interface in general. find it .. and you're ok
Are you saying theres nothing I can do with remote filesystem access through activesync.
if you go to active sync and uncheck the sync options for contacts, callender and emails, doesnt this wipe them off the device?
The other option in to rename the pim file on the device to something else, soft reset, then you can delete the pim file. worked for me when i lent out my prophet to a mate for a while (although i didnt delete the file, just hid it out of prying eyes
yup, these are good options as well.
when you sync with nothing it erases everything. messages and call history won't be wiped.. for messages you can rename cemail.vol and pim.vol and then delete them.
tho if your screen is cracked.. i see no reason why not to save yourself the trouble and just hard reset
yh thats true
there should be a way to hard reset using clear storage in software, unless the screen is dead dead and cant be used... (or is that just wm6? its been a while since i used wm5 lol)
you can hard reset using software in WM5 to my knowledge.. but he can't since his screen can't be used (as far as i understand).
if he can still sync, might be able to use my mobiler to access the functions on the device whilst synced via the computer, goto clear stoarge and activate it... should work... long winded yes lol, but short of knowing how to hardware reset i dont know.

I'm really at a loss here. My XDA is not syncing through the cradle anymore. I plug it in and activesync pops up, tries to connect, but on the PC there is no detection at all. I tried to setup activesync on 3 different PC's but none detects the XDA. It detects "new device", "HTPC device" etc. Installs all the drivers but fails to connect together.
I didn't change anything on the XDA from "working sync" to the "not working sync". One day it apparently thought "enough already". :?
Is there a way to reset the activesync settings (if there is such a thing) on the XDA? Or is there another solution?
Maybe I should use an older version of the activesync (if so, where to find old versions?)?
Thanks.
make sure it's ActiveSync 3.7.1 ... on the xda side, ActiveSync -> tools -> options -> PC -> options -> Enable PC sync using USB
Try to reset the partnership.
IF still suffering from the same problem, try to backup your data (FULL BACKUP) then hard reset your device & put it in the cradle, if it worked out, then the problem is in your XDA side's ActiveSync, you can easily revert your old windows since you've backed it up! If this happens, the try SpriteBackup version 3.0, backup everything, and hard reset your device, then restore only the emails, sms, databases, everything except the system files (which are corrupted on your current installed windows).
ChEeR uP
Finally I will have some time tomorrow to try your solutions.
I only need to save the SMS', and I do need the contacts and contact list saved. I just beamed them via the infra port to the PC. Each contact was saved as a .vcf file. This way I can send back the contacts to the XDA when done with the hard reset? How to backup the SMS data?
As long as the contacts are safe, then I don't mind trying any and all solutions to get this thing working again to 100%.
By the way. I did try to reset the partnership, and it didn't work.
Which ROM should I use after hard resetting the device? Any advice?
Fairly good..
Use ROM 4.01.16 (its the latest)
A hard reset fixed the activesync trouble. Thanks for the suggestion.
However, the volume the XDA now outputs is fairly low (on maximum volume settings "incall"). Much lower than before and a fair bit lower than my XDA2's volume. This in itself poses no trouble while speaking on the phone indoors, but as it is I'm not a housecat. Outside, with some ambient noises, I can not hear what is said in the earpiece. Using a headset makes the volumes audible, but causes other hassles, like having to plug the headset in and out like mad.
Also, I'm having some trouble finding roms. Actually, I can't find a reliable source anywhere. Where can I download the latest XDA1 rom (4.01.16)? And which is the best way of upgrading without cocking up the XDA?
Thanks a bunch to whomever helps me out
Hello guys,
I bought an xda atom and decided to sell it becaues the screen is too small to view file such as excel or words.
I need to know if there is any way that I can permanently delete the files that I deleted so that the person who bought my atom cannot recovery the deleted files.
Thanks in advance for your answer.
Hard Reset it...
Hi rain, you mean just resetting by pushing something inside the small one next to the USB slot on the left, does it all?
That easy?
No, that's a soft reset...
Hard reset means that everything is erased from your PocketPC, and you will only have the out of the box settings. Check if you have a small application called "Clear Storage" in settings panel control-> it will do the job for you. If not ask arround or check the manual on how to perform hard reset on HTC Atom.
Cheers,
Raul
Hi Rain, I could not locate any Clear Storage under settings. I search inside the Personal, System and Connections tabs, but none has what you said.
Even if we hard-reset, would any undeleter or recovery software run from computer able to trace the file and recover it?
I don't think that there exists such software... , for pocketpc side i mean.
A hard reset is like a format to your desktop's harddrive , everything is erased and only what is in the extended rom is installed on your device.(extended rom is a hidden to user folder that contains the cab files with OEMs customisation files)
So you will loose all your apps , contacts, notes, appointments...everything that was inputed but you...that is why there are back-up utilities available
Cheers,
Raul
I checked the user handbook. The way to hard reset is to press the on/off button while pressing the soft reset button at the same time.
Thanks for your reply, rain.
i need some serious help. i installed the program Device Application Locker (DAL) and it seemed to not work. after an uninstall of the trial and a restart of my cingular 8525, i get all sorts of errors. whenever i try to open programs on the phone such as file explorer, camera, games, messages...literally everything; i get an error reading the file "file name" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. you might need to reinstall or restore this file. i tried a hard reset and i get the same message with file name ' ctlpnl'. i need help, i just got this phone and it was a lot of money. how can i fix my phone? how can this even be possible if i cant access file explorer as well? PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME.
EDIT:im really freaking out now. i cannot connect my 8525 with active sync through the USB... when i attempt to connect it says on my device, NOTIFICATION ERROR cannot execute repllog.exe, is there an alternate way to connect and try to reinstall the program to try and reverse this mess or is there a way i can reinstall wm5 to factory settings?
yes but
i would love to hard reset the phone but i cannot access any of my apps. i can view them and once i click on them such as clear storage for a hard reset i get this message , ctlpnl.exe this file 'ctlpnl' cannot be opened. either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. you might need to reinstall or restore this file. how can i possibly do so if i canot connect active sync with usb oraccess file explorer. theres got to be an alternate way.
search on how to do a hard reset. theres like 3 ways of doing. i think like holding the camera button and the green button and press the soft reset button and hold it. something like that. just search and you'll find the answer . so no need to freak out. you'll be fine.
WOOOhoo
LoL, i am loving you guys more and more, not only is this a fantastic website, the people are great here too. the alternate hard reset is holding the 2 soft buttons and entering the stylus into the reset hole. thank you so much i need to set up my device now. let you know how it goes. thanks again!!!!
it all went smoothly, i feel like i just won a prize or something. this definitly made my week, i was trying to figure out when was a good time to drop another 500$. thank you all so much for the help
no problem, will do. and the SPB programs are of my choice too. i like them.
hi all.
I am in serious trouble and i need help. i realized i did not have outlook, thus my contacts are all gone.
I had tried to update my software earlier by installing some .cab file. It was a file for my HTC home. The installation was 'successful', however after i did a reset ( they prompt me to ) i could not boot up my phone. It get hanged once it got to my wallpaper, and i cant tap or press anything. The htc home screen also does not come out.
=(
any kind souls?
So something is hanging right after windows boots... did you try to install HTC Home to a storage card? Try booting with the storage card out.
thanks for the prompt reply. i tried, however it never seems to work. I am using a HTC TYTN ii. running on windows 6.1
I did install it on a storage card. i tried means like switching on without memory card, sim card and did a million resets, but it doesnt seem to work.. =(
Actually i install the HTC Home was because the message counter on the HTC Home got screwed up. it showed 1 unread no although i had all messages read. but anyway, for now, tht's not my main concern.. =(
thanks all in advance ..
I guess I do not understand all of your issues besides the freezing at boot.
A hard reset should be an option, if you're ok with that... and then for the future, use sprite and pim backup to make sure you don't lose too much data.
Try searching the forum for threads like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320689
What caused you to lose your contacts?
my contacts are all saved in the phone, and it wasnt back up cause i am not using microsoft outlook.. and lets say i want to do a hard reset, how to do it?
and how do i do a soft reset with my phone.
Is there anyway that i can actually do a SAFE mode boot up? but my phone keeps getting hanged at start up. i dunno if its because it cant bring up a pin enter mode where I need to key in my pin each time i boot up.
0) What version of ROM were you using?
HTC TYTN ii
1) Applications installed when it happened
HTC HOME (old version ) i d/led and used HTC Diamond home, then it got screwed up cause the unread messages kept showing 1, although all messages were read. i thus wanted to reinstall the HTC home.
2) Radio ROM version (2.19.21, 2.47.21, etc...)
NONE
3) Device model (dopod 818, imate etc...)
HTC TYTN II
4) Device version (G3 or G4)
Windows 6.1?
5) How long it was since last hard reset (1 day,6 hours, etc..)
I never did a hard reset. how do i do it
6) Approx how many soft resets you already made (1-5, 5-10 10-15, etc...)
Soft refers to poking the reset button, would be more than 20 times after this issue
7) Approx how many shutdowns you already made (holding power button for 4+ seconds)
more than 10 times.
8) any other significant info you think will help:
My contacts are not saved syn with my com as i do not have windows outlook.
9) Do you have the HTC Homeplug today plugin enabled?
10) have you populated your PIM apps via pimbackup or via activesync?
11) Do you have the "HTC_default" today theme enabled?
yes.
for now, i cant boot up. the screen will hang at my wallpaper. i cant seem to press or click anything after that. My pin start up prompt does not apear too. please help =(
depressed ivy.
Sorry, but I'm pretty sure you need an app to use safe mode. You might need to loose your contacts, but don't give up... research and you might find an answer.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=The%20Safe%20Mode%20Bible
And if you've already tried booting without a sim and storage card, you might need to hard reset, which is easy enough after reading the wiki.
e.g. press both softkeys while resetting, or you could even flash a new rom via sd card by naming the .nbh file KAISIMG.nbh and putting it on your storage card root directory.
Read the wiki before you make any decisions and good luck, good news is your phone sounds like it's fine, just install a safe mode program next time.
Hi. I did research like wht you adviced, i managed to log into bootloader mode, i downloaded MTTY program and got my phone to the USB mode. I like to ask the following:
1) can i retrieve and save my contacts as i saved them all in my phone and none in my sim card?
2) Wht can i do next as I'm badly stuck at the HTC home page with only my wallpaper, i cant click on any buttons.
Thanks in advance to all.
I really hope that some GURUs here are able to help solve my terrible situation and i would really appreciate it. My contacts are all save in the phone and i need some help in retrieving it.
Thanks all.

At what exactly point does it freeze?
What is your radio version, it should appear after you turn on the device in red letters on the bottom right.
What is your SPL Version, you should be able to see it from the bootloader?
Dave
Hello friend. When I suggested research, I meant things like this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2732337
I found this thread by clicking search in the top right to use google, and typed "save contacts" which if you've gone into MTTY research (be careful by the way) then you might be able to backup your data.
MY SPL : 3.29.0000
MY radio: 1.65.16.25
When i boot up, i suppose to have some password protect, to enter my pin before there is reception and stuff. For now, I can only see my wallpaper, the start button, contacts and calander buttons. However i cant touch on anything, it just simply hangs there.
SIM card and memory card are off. I tried SYNC, but it says cannot detect device.

By "SYNC" you mean active sync? Try an Actice sync re-install, maybe?
Sounds like this protect stuff is beggared.

i meant active sync, it says it cant detect my device. Is there anyway from MTTY, i cant retrieve my contacts?
All this actually happen after i installed .cab file the other day, and the installation was fine and i was prompt to restart. It hanged after that till date. sigh =( I'm desperate.
GURUs,
I cant get my device to go any further than hanging right at the wallpaper of HTC Home, the usb doenst recognize my device, so i cant enter or do any thing.
I just wish to retrieve my contacts now, and do a hard reset on my phone.
Thanks.
If you never saved your contacts from and to your sim card without any kind of backup from outlook or pim, etc. you might be ****e out of luck. Gone from a ****ty samsung to a equally ****ty razr, hermes, and now kaiser with the same sim...Always copy your contacts to the sim; or at least a Backup folder on your desktop or lap. flashing erases the main memory, which of course includes contacts. That's why we have a program called sim manager, to backup contacts everytime we erase our systems. Hope you find a workaround though, as a former Iphone owner, reinputting your contacts is a giant *****
sigh.. does tht means i'm so dead now? I did ever did a PPCPimBackup, but its stored in the phone memory too? any sort of help you can assist?

Possibly, I've tried to get hold of someone who might know, but it's looking grim.
Storage Card backups and Active Sync are the best way to backup.

If I perform a hard reset, what do I loose? what do I keeep? IE I am aware I will loose all the data i hav DLed on it but do I have to reprogram the phone and all?
Here's your answer, copied directly from the TP2 user's manual:
Performing a hard reset
If a normal reset does not solve a system problem, you can perform a hard (full) reset. After a hard reset, the device is restored to its default settingsāthe way it was when you first purchased it and turned it on. You
will lose any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings you customized on your device, and only Windows MobileĀ® software and other pre-installed programs will remain.
Warning! Your device will be set back to factory default settings. Make sure that any additional installed programs and/or user data have been backed up before you perform a hard reset.
Important If Encrypt files when placed on a storage card is enabled, backup all files from the storage card before using Clear Storage, hard reset, or updating the operating system. Otherwise you will no longer be able to
access the encrypted files on the storage card. Use ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center to transfer files between your storage card and computer. After the procedure, copy your files back to the storage card.
Thank you for the reply. I have read that (in fact it was the first thing I read, and I as said I understand I will loose my files and what not) and it doesn't answer my question about programing on the verizon network. The reason why I asked is because the programing was a difficult process for several reasons that I wont get into.
Sorry, I wasn't (and still am not) clear about what you mean by "reprogramming". The hard reset leaves you with a phone that is the same as it was when you first opened the box EXCEPT that you do not need to initiate phone service. There are no contacts, no emails, no preference settings, but you can immediately make and receive phone calls. There are some free cabs that you can use to backup much of your data before doing the hard reset. This will reduce some of the pain of losing so much of what you put into the phone before doing the hard reset.
Thanks that does answer my question. When you get a phone you have to go through verizon programming dial *228 before using it. If you dont think i need to do this, then i should be al set
On a hard reset, you will need to dial *228 to activate the phone.
