XDA not connecting with activesync via cradle anymore - General Topics

I'm really at a loss here. My XDA is not syncing through the cradle anymore. I plug it in and activesync pops up, tries to connect, but on the PC there is no detection at all. I tried to setup activesync on 3 different PC's but none detects the XDA. It detects "new device", "HTPC device" etc. Installs all the drivers but fails to connect together.
I didn't change anything on the XDA from "working sync" to the "not working sync". One day it apparently thought "enough already". :?
Is there a way to reset the activesync settings (if there is such a thing) on the XDA? Or is there another solution?
Maybe I should use an older version of the activesync (if so, where to find old versions?)?
Thanks.

make sure it's ActiveSync 3.7.1 ... on the xda side, ActiveSync -> tools -> options -> PC -> options -> Enable PC sync using USB

Try to reset the partnership.
IF still suffering from the same problem, try to backup your data (FULL BACKUP) then hard reset your device & put it in the cradle, if it worked out, then the problem is in your XDA side's ActiveSync, you can easily revert your old windows since you've backed it up! If this happens, the try SpriteBackup version 3.0, backup everything, and hard reset your device, then restore only the emails, sms, databases, everything except the system files (which are corrupted on your current installed windows).
ChEeR uP

Finally I will have some time tomorrow to try your solutions.
I only need to save the SMS', and I do need the contacts and contact list saved. I just beamed them via the infra port to the PC. Each contact was saved as a .vcf file. This way I can send back the contacts to the XDA when done with the hard reset? How to backup the SMS data?
As long as the contacts are safe, then I don't mind trying any and all solutions to get this thing working again to 100%.
By the way. I did try to reset the partnership, and it didn't work.
Which ROM should I use after hard resetting the device? Any advice?

Fairly good..
Use ROM 4.01.16 (its the latest)

A hard reset fixed the activesync trouble. Thanks for the suggestion.
However, the volume the XDA now outputs is fairly low (on maximum volume settings "incall"). Much lower than before and a fair bit lower than my XDA2's volume. This in itself poses no trouble while speaking on the phone indoors, but as it is I'm not a housecat. Outside, with some ambient noises, I can not hear what is said in the earpiece. Using a headset makes the volumes audible, but causes other hassles, like having to plug the headset in and out like mad.
Also, I'm having some trouble finding roms. Actually, I can't find a reliable source anywhere. Where can I download the latest XDA1 rom (4.01.16)? And which is the best way of upgrading without cocking up the XDA?
Thanks a bunch to whomever helps me out

Activesync of Outlook stopped working

For no apparent reason, Activesync (4.5 5096) of Outlook on my TC (standard ROM see below) has stopped working. Outlook email/contacts/diary not getting synced.
After plugging USB in a message says 'Sync cannot be connected succesfully...try again... and run troubleshooting..'. But Activesync/Help/Troubleshooting/Reporting says there is nothing wrong! Indeed, I can still explore TC and card, sync other software (e.g. Media Player, TomTom Home, eWallet etc).
But I can't get in to the ActiveSync/Options menu to check out the relationship. Have soft reset TC, turned off PC firewalls etc, but nothing helps. Little puzzled because it all worked fine for the past 2 months and I wasn't even playing around when it decided not to work!
Any ideas please?
Thanks,

had the same problem some time ago. changed the cable and everything was fine.you could also try uninstalling and reinstalling activesync.
Jackster
Thanks. Cable was OK, but uninstall/reinstall of activesync worked. indeed speeded up activesync and fixed a lot of other minor secondary problems while it was at it would recommend it for all every now and then. strikes me that activesync is one of the those bolt-on bits of MS obeseware that needs regular maintenance?
USB Device not recognized
To mark the anniversary of me posting my original message, all of a suddden and for no apparent reason, Activesync has stopped working again. Bizarre
This time its a little different, I don't get anything except a pop message on PC saying 'USB device not recognized: One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance click on this message'. Which of course I di and it didn't help!
So, I've tried
- un-installing/re-installing Activesync 4.5
- rebooting PC and TC umpteen times
- changed USB port/cable
- tick/untick Settings/Connections/USB-to-PC/Enable Advanced network functionality
- putting the kettle on
Nothing is working (Although the cup of tea was nice
Would really appreciate some help please
Thanks

Help! Really desperate on this one. I have been trying to think why this should suddenly happen. Two things possible:
- During my last succesful sync I received and answered a call. Would this damage registers or something?
- I accidently pulled the mini-USB headphone cable a bit while listening toi music. But the sound is still perfectly OK, and I receive power charge via USB even though it won't connect/sync. And like I said, I've swapped cables/ports.
I've Googled this a lot and most people fix by fiddling with stuff I have already done and praying!
Please. Anyone got any ideas before I too start praying!
Thanks
1. No, it should not. Never heard it did.
2. AFAIK, not reason as long as it charges trough USB port.
Try to delete device from Active Sync while device is not connected. You might need to restart PC.
You'll have to set options again when device is recognised.
This is what I have to do often.
Also, check device name on device itself, it tends to change from time to time for no apparent reason (at least to me). If it changes, it causes following problems to me:
1. Active Sync troubles
2. BT connection to car audio stops working.
Hope some of this will help...
BTW... you have WM 6.0 on it? If so, don't upgrade to WM 6.1... IMHO, WM 6.0 is faster than 6.1 and has less problems with Active Sync...
Bodisson,
Thanks for suggestions. Alas, none work
It looks like I am going to have to hard reset and/or burn new ROM. For those of us who don't do this regularly, this can be a nerve racking experience. However, I was perhaps sweating too much about it for a couple of reasons:
- it seems very few people have anything good to say about WM6.1. Until now I have been pretty happy with WM6.0 and have had 14 months of virtually trouble-free use, so maybe I'll just stick with that. I'm not a power-user, so the vast array of cooked ROMs is rather bewildering. Unless one is rock solid and aimed at non-power end-users?
- I thought installing a new ROM without Activesync was impossible, but I see someone has worked a way to do it via the SDHC card. Well done XDA
So, unless anyone has some further ideas I will just hard reset to WM6.0 and hope for the best. I have this terrible feeling though that my mini-USB port is damaged and I'll get the same bubble of doom even after hard reset.
Thanks
Either do a hard reset back to factory (and hope you can re sync all your stuff with the PC),
OR
Re flash the rom to C Shekar's "b" rom. It really is very good, and transforms the phone. In fact, it is so good that I have finally stopped fiddling with my phone! (and I'm a born fiddler!)
It is very good, and works immediately, but you might need to spend time tweaking it - the must is to install the correct radio.
I've done quite a lot of rom upgrading, so am quite comfortable now with the process. If you want to do it and need a hand, let me know.
Have you tried to verify your firewall? Last time I had some Sync problems was just after updating my firewall that changed settings to default, blocking the Polaris-PC communication.
Have tried disabling all firewalls with no luck.
I've hit a brick wall on this one, but am fearful it will be hard to get device back to working order again if I do hard-reset and still can't sync
Suggestions very welcome
Thanks

OK, I feel for you on this one!
If you don't want to flash to a new rom (or, re flash to your old one), there is a solution but it involves removing and renaming your Outlook.pst file ... the procedure (which is on this site somewhere) seemed fraught with danger, to me, so i preferred to re flash when i had a similar problem.
Before re flashing, if you decide to, you backup your data using PIMBackup - only your contacts and maybe phone call list, not anything specific to the phone's operating system or software.
Re flash, then restore the data.
Then, Active Sync will see the phone as a completely new system.

Active Sync

Hello.
I asked the forum search about it, but cant find really an helpful answer.
I do have strong problem with Active Sync. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. Sometimes, I got to install Active Sync new or drop out the device and add it new to get it done.
Button for fast data connection at the Touch Pro is enabled. Working with 4.5.0 and XP.
Can someone please get me a tip?
Hardware Problem?
I had the same problem with my TyTN II which is the reason I switched to Touch Pro.
The problem I could not synch was because of the MiniUSB connector. I had to change the main board twice. So now my wife owns the TyTN II
i solved that problem by changing another usb slot (it didn't work with USB from my monitor...)
Thank you.
I tried all 6 USB Ports and nothing helped.
Also, I tried to disconnect all other USB devices, also enabled and disabled the "Charging while connected to the PC" button.
Any other suggestions?
I also had thrown out the second device I had in Active Sync.

Have you disabled "advanced network functionality" in Settings>Connections>USB to PC ?
also try reinstalling active sync again...
@Wonkotehsame:
Yes, I disabled this function.
@ yahu:
So I did. Not just one time, many times. Always after reinstalling, it workes. Some time later, I am loosing connection.
Also, if I try to copy larger files like GPS software with appr. 1,4 Gb the transfer to the Memory card stoppes with the failure message: no such file found.
Can this be something along with the Active Sync problem?
I too have problems with this. ActiveSync says phone is set up to sync with a different computer, but it's not.
Still nobody any hint for this problem?
My problem is a little bit diferent...
My vista won't sync with my Artemis, but it syncs with my Glofiish M700..
If i change the PC (OS XP x64), the artemis syncs.....
So, my Vista Notebook is angry with my Artemis... neither USB/BT sync can be done...
Nice to hear that a lot of people have similar probs ;-)
What I have done now, deleted all of my connetions features/partnerships and made all new.
For now (maybe until Monday...) it works, but now I dont get a folder on the desktop of my mobile device. Is this an optional setting? Can someone tell my how to do?
I dont believe that NOBODY has an help for this problem.
As of today, no Active Sync in any ways is possible with my phone. Even not if I make a new installation.
Also; I made sure that all Anti Virus and Firewalls do allow all 3 Active Sync Files.
What can I do else???
Another try for the specialists:
I have copied now my Outlook.pst to a different Desktop, installed there the Active Sync. I worked w/o prob. That means, the problem got to be with the Desktop.
Last try: Who can help?

Looks like you are on your way to finding the root cause. I would try the same computer but a different user to see if it is related to the user setting.
This is what I have done last night. 2nd user, installed OL new and also Active Sync.
Nothing. Same problems.
I restarted the Desktop AND the device several times.
Nothing.
But, when I came this morning, it worked the first time.
The second it failed. I will go and purchase a new Desktop for the thanks of Mr. Microsoft!
has anyone found a real solution for this problem?? mmy computer recognizes the phone a a disk drive bt active sync does nothing. any help would be greatly apprecated
I'm getting this too. Sometimes ActiveSync works, sometimes it doesn't. I can't figure out what causes it to work and not work...
Theres only two possible solutions I know of from all I've ever heard of the problem:
1. Settings-->Connections-->USB to PC. Also, I know the prompt asking you if you would like to use as a disk drive comes up if you've set your phone to be read as an sd card reader. If the pop up annoys you, try removing the SD card and trying again.
2. Hard reset.
Sorry if it doesn't seem favorable to you guys.

Active Sync issues

O.K. So for years I have been running 1 PDA or an other, For the last year or so I have been running my HTC Trinity without any issues.
The January 1 2009 comes around and…
My Trinity stops syncing.
Not just with my home machine, but with my work one as well
The device shows up in device manage, it makes the USB device found sound, but doesn’t make the syncing sound, and active sync doesn’t find it.
No firewalls,
Tested with multiple USB cables,
Bounced the Trinity multiple times,
Changed from sync via USB and back
Removed the profile for one of the computers from the machine and the Trinity.
Reloaded the Device driver.
Don’t know of any change made to any of the 3 devices (Who knows with M$ Patching)
Oh both computers are XP, and active sync 4.5, the Trinity is WM5
Any one with any thing I could have missed?
Has no one got any thoughts on the subject?

Are you able to test another device and see if it will sync with your computer?
If yes the I would suggest you to do a hard reset and try again!
Make sure to backup your contacts and everything else before you hard reset first, or you will lose everything!

I was trying to dodge a hard reset, but went with it anyway…
That worked and the phone Synced successfully
Then my next thought was… Well rebuilding all your apps was the only reason you haven’t upgraded the ROM so now is your opportunity.
BIG MISTAKE!
I Downloaded HTC ROM 3.00.707.18 Outlined here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321182
And started the upgrade.
It found the phone, it started the upgrade and then I heard a most disconcerting sound… The USB Undock sound.
It now Shows the Tri Colour Screen and nothing Else
It wont be recognized to sync(No surprise there) so how on earth do I bring the poor thing back to life?
I have moved this a step forward.
Now when I try to apply the ROM I get ERROR [294] INVALID VENDOR ID
I can find lots of posts on the topic, but nothing definitive.
Well Hard-SPL was my savoir…
It didn’t allow me to install the WM6 Rom as it seemed to suggest but it somehow recovered the WM5 Rom so that I am now up and running and able to Sync once again

Remove Messages, Contacts and email settings

Hey
I've got this ASUS smartphone I'm giving away (its got a cracked screen) - and because its ASUS I cant flash it.
Is there a way to wipe the Messages, Contacts and email settings through activesync, I can see program files windows dirs etc...?
Thanksn
you can hard reset it. just search for the combination of how to hard reset your asus and you'll be ok.
The only way for this phone is through the phone interface of which I cannot access (http://www.hardreset.eu/asus_p750_hard_reset_soft_reset_en.html)
Doesn't make sense. there's always a way to hard reset using the Hardware buttons only since a Hardreset is supposed to solve the issue of having problems using your touchscreen or the Interface in general. find it .. and you're ok
Are you saying theres nothing I can do with remote filesystem access through activesync.
if you go to active sync and uncheck the sync options for contacts, callender and emails, doesnt this wipe them off the device?
The other option in to rename the pim file on the device to something else, soft reset, then you can delete the pim file. worked for me when i lent out my prophet to a mate for a while (although i didnt delete the file, just hid it out of prying eyes
yup, these are good options as well.
when you sync with nothing it erases everything. messages and call history won't be wiped.. for messages you can rename cemail.vol and pim.vol and then delete them.
tho if your screen is cracked.. i see no reason why not to save yourself the trouble and just hard reset
yh thats true
there should be a way to hard reset using clear storage in software, unless the screen is dead dead and cant be used... (or is that just wm6? its been a while since i used wm5 lol)
you can hard reset using software in WM5 to my knowledge.. but he can't since his screen can't be used (as far as i understand).
if he can still sync, might be able to use my mobiler to access the functions on the device whilst synced via the computer, goto clear stoarge and activate it... should work... long winded yes lol, but short of knowing how to hardware reset i dont know.

Can't connect to activesync anymore

I am running WM 6.1 (Michyprima Full) and I wanted to flash to another ROM, however for some reason my phone will no longer connect to activesync on the desktop (tried two pcs). It can sync just fine via exchange.
Nothing has changed on the mobile device or the desktop; ActiveSync on the mobile device is set to allow connection via USB and activesync on the desktops is set to use USB to sync.
I know the underlying connection is ok because the device will start charging from the USB cable when it is hooked up.
What can I do to fix this situation so I can flash to a new ROM? I do not need to save anything on the device... I have tried soft-resetting.
EDIT: Also when I list USB connected devices on the desktop PC, I see one called "Windows Mobile-based Device"
did you use a ram cleaner
i used a ram cleaner and my device dosent get recognised by pc.let me know if you find a solution.

Have you tied going to Start/Settings/System (or Connections) and running USB to PC? Try unchecking 'Enable enhanced network' then OK back to the start screen and try reconnecting.
If that doesn't work, try a hard reset with the current ROM, and see if that fixes it. If so, you can then flash the new ROM.
If it still doesn't work, I think you can flash using a memory card or the Flash Drive without needing to access the PC.

Have you tried completely uninstalling ActiveSync from your computer, reboot, download and re-install ActiveSync. Its worked for me - sometimes the USB drivers become corrupt.
When I try and hit ok to commit the change of unchecking the advanced network functionality (it was checked before), the device just sits there with the spinning thinking wheel. Doing a soft reset and going back into the usb to pc shows the box still checked.
I will try a hard reset.

I think thats the only answer at present- the inability to change the A/S settings on the device suggest something's got corrupted somewhere
I was able to get it to sync after a hard reset.
However, when I attempted to load Michy's light ROM the device rebooted and sat at "Loading..." with a white screen. The wrapper then said error connection failed.
If I soft reset the device it comes back to the loading... screen; if I hard reset the device, it comes back to the loading screen after the hard reset. How can I fix this?
blast. left the stupid sd card in while i did the first flashing.
Removed SD card, re-hard resetted, then re-ran the ROM updater.
Sometimes its OK, sometimes it isn't- just one of those little mysteries I guess!
Glad its OK now. Michy's Lite ROM is excellent
Solution for deleted active sync notification called replog
YES...you guys definitely ERASED your Active sync NOTIFICATION file called replog. As someone suggested...he ran his CLEANER...then the problem begun.
It is true that Hard Reseting the device will get you back that file, but there is an easy way to do it...I can't find the original article but this file I will post will RE-CREATE that deleted replog notification file that is needed by active sync to work.
So next time you try and clean-up...just make sure you won't delete any file named replog
To use this FIX, just place it on your SD Card and run the file. If you want you can create an icon at Windows>Start Menu>Programs>to whatever folder... that will work too for easy access.
Just a word of caution...DON'T RUN THE FILE MORE THAN ONCE...why? Because it will re-create the file again. Although it won't hurt in any way except eat up internal memory, but you don't want any duplicated file... right?
