Hi. Not sure if this has been covered before (did search the forum and also google but couldn't see anything about it). If you end up with an S710 / Vox that exhibits the following problem:
Press Power button - Green light illuminates for approx 1 sec then extinguishes, no boot
But you can still access the tri-colour bootloader using Power & Camera button.
Simply open then close the SIM door. And voila! All working again! This has been driving me nuts - I bought four phones off ebay - replaced their broken screens and all exhibited the same problem - wouldn't turn on. It appears HTC have a switch on the SIM card door such that the phone will power off if the door is opened whilst the phone is on. In the process of dismantling the phone, sometimes this switch mechanism doesn't work properly, preventing the phone from turning on.... Wiggling the SIM cover after re-assembly fixes it.
Sorry if this is going over old ground, but thought it might be of help to some people.
thankssssssssssssss
thankssssssssssssss
thankssssssssssssss
When reassembling the upper part of the device you must make sure that the SIM door actually fits to the switch correctly. Best is to have the door open when putting the parts together and then close the door.
I have taken apart and swapped LCD several times and NEVER had the problem you describe - but its true: the device won't boot when the SIM door is considered open.
Obviously this ONLY happens when someone has taken apart the device (either you or the previous owner) and is usually NOT a solution for those that "suddenly" see the LCD "dead" - which often is linked to the flex-cable connection between the two parts of the device.
man really thank you!

So I have a pda (xda) Orbit 2, it’s from O2. While I was at Glastonbury 08 towards the end of the festival I found that I couldn't unlock the phone. I.e. you would press unlock (bottom left button) and then confirm that you want to unlock the phone. This is the standard way to unlock the phone normally. So the problem then was that it had the unlock at the bottom at the left but you can't click on it :s. Ok it was the last day so I just thought it'll work by the time I get home just leave it turned off. Got home charged it worked perfectly.
Now I’ve that problem once since then. Fixed the problem the same way. Plugged it into the mains bobs your uncle it fixed it.
This time its different I have tried everything. Soft reset, taking about the battery, charged it fully and let the battery die out complete. Nothing will get rid of this problem I just can't unlock my phone. I can still receive calls but can't read text's emails. Very frustrating. If people haven't got clues its off to 02 flash the phone loose everything then tell me they have no idea what is wrong with it. Hell I can flash the phone myself O another key factor is i know the screen still has sensitivity becuase when i touch the screen a similar screen to that of the unlock screen comes up, only without the unlock button.
Anyway any thoughts anybody?
ok Chang phones touch screen
ok i think your phones touch screen is gone plese chang the touch screen
lol, easily said. That would be a rather large pain i have to say cheers for the reply though
Incase i didn't make it clear everything on the screen is fine. I thought maybe i had aligned my screen some how just very very badly.
bro,
bro, we r here to give solutions not pain or fellings
Thanks

of which i fully appreciate. But changing an entire screen is a pain which ever way you look at it.
no not changing the entire screen
bro you need to chang the only touch panel not the screen, screen and touch panel r the diffrent T.P is mounted on screen and you can chang it withc good hardware guy.

well lets hope the warranty cover's this. Either wise my silly insurance will have to
Hi all,
I am at my wits end on this problem if anyone can offer any adivice it would be greatly appreciated. So let me give a recap of what has occured thus far. The water damage tag for some reason turn pink thus i am unable to get warranty exchange. I am pretty certain that the phone has never been expose to any water of anything of that sort, but i do live in houston, tx so might be humidity or what not that cause the tag to turn. Anyways.
1. This all started after i flashed RRE 5.2 RC3. Initially after a successful flash everything seem normal and fine. Then next morning i woke up to a frozen screen with many verticial lines running up and down the screen was almost unreadable. Initially i thought it was a bad flash or just random lock up. I did a hard reset and tried to enter the bootloader. Black screen, it does seem like the backlight is coming up but nothing on the screen. I can hear the phone power on and boot successfully into windows. Activesync connects i can browse the contents of the phone.
2. After flashing to stock att rom and stock htc roms same symptoms. So at this point i am thinking crap bad LCD screen. so I ordered both the digitizer and lcd screen for good measure. I replaced them hoping that a bad LCD was all. replaced both screens and i powered on the phone. same problem. black screen. The phone still powers on and boots into windows. Activesync still connects and i cna still reflash the phone.
3. I work extensively and do both desktop pc and notebook repair. I am not new to dealing with small electronic repairs. but at this juncture i am unable to identify the cause of hte malfunction. i am hoping maybe some of the gurus here might be able to shine some light on the subject.
Thanks in advance for any help.
I would have followed the same approach; your description makes it sound like it might be some kind of backlighting issue at first read. I'm inclined to think it might be a cold connection (bad connector) on the main board.
Silly question, what happens if you power up the phone with the keyboard exposed?
*EDIT* Not sure if you have been here yet: http://www.mikechannon.net/
Cheers,
i just tried to power up the phone with keyboard exposed. Powers up the same as with the keyboard hidden. Still boots up fine but black screen. I already have the service manuel dowloaded. i have checked around with several repair places both local and on the web. Seems like no one has any parts for the att fuze/touch pro gsm except for the lcd and digitizer and a speaker.
its quite possible that it is a main board but as the same time it might be something as simple as a ribbon cable. i have contacted htc about doing a possible repair and they want wayyyy too much for just a main board repair almost $400 USD.
Anyone have a bricked/ non working touch pro they would like to sell ? =P

Could be a bad ribbon cable ... and firmly pressing around the front/back of the unit shows no change?
pressing the phone front and back show no changes to display. in a very dark room I can see that there is light emitting from the display but its just the screen is not displaying anything visable. this occured both before and after i changed out the screens. I'll do another visual inspection of all the boards to see if there is any bad resistors burnt out circuits etc.. but i didn't notice anything mentionable during my first 2 inspections. Maybe 3rd time is the charm.
Thanks for all the feedback thus far Hilaireg it is quite appreciated. All this venting has at least made me feel 1000% better than after i replaced my lcd and still same problem at least i don't feel like a complete idiot!
Sorry I couldn't be of much help ... you've done all the steps a seasoned hardware person would do.
Do post back to let other folks know if you get it back up and running.
Cheers,
you have a pm fkoong.
I have possibly the same problem. Phone got wet, dried it out for 2 days (in a container of rice). Phone worked but had "water marks" on screen that disappeared after two days and everything was fine for about 2 weeks. Then one day (happened to be humid misting rain eve in Charleston) the screen is blank (hint of backlight only). A soft reset and it seems OK for about 1hr, then blank again. The hard resest screen displayed OK (readbale text etc), but didnt work. But as I write this, I retry to document it results correctly and the NATF ROM is reloading and the screen works! We will see how long!!
Well.. not that long, the end of the ROM load and it went blank again, seems like a video driver problem. The Press VoluP to boot does show some red artifact.
Trying hard reset again (No SIM no uSD)
The NATF v4.4 loads and gives me the Tap screen, Align Screen, stylus, loads customization, opera, tf3d, then loads a bunch of files under ...... and then the screen goes blank again, seem like what happened last time, so Ill try loading a fresh ROM copy... later
My brother's girlfriend has an SGH-i997r (the canadian varient of the Infuse 4G for Rogers) and it was stuck in a bootloop one day, it would show Rogers logo, Samsung logo, black screen, repeat. She removed the battery and it then changed the bootloop to a loading icon, then an empty battery logo, black screen, repeat.
I figured I would give it a go and try to see what I could do with it and I found some stuff that just says this is a power button problem and to clean out the power button however I found out it's the actual button on the board that's malfunctioning.
I took a stab at it by attempting to reflow the motherboard and after reflowing, the board was cool and I assembled the phone just enough to turn it on and it actually started up to the Samsung animated boot logo this time then half way though it stopped and turned off again but then it came up with the battery icon and started charging.
So if I just focus the reflow area to the power button alone I think I may be able to fix this without replacing the physical switch on the board itself so I'll keep posted on how this goes as this may be another new alternative to fixing the bootloop problem with these phones and if anyone else has any tips I could try to alternativly fix this if it still doesn't work it would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT:
It got it working but the power button is still very touchy and needs to be replaced. It turns out that reflowing these boards will allow the power button to start functioning again or at least long enough that you can back up all of your data/restore to stock ROM before sending it in to Samsung.
I hope this helps anyone else with this problem. It worked pretty good for me, I just held a hair drier over the board with it facing away from me so the power and volume buttons were facing towards me (as if the LCD would be facing me and the battery facing away from me) and I heated it up for 1 minute, let cool for 1 minute, and I would repeat this for about 10 minutes in total and it starts up every time now, it just turns the screen off if I ever so lightly brush my finger along the power button, other then that though it's working and I'm sure she'll be pleased it didn't cost a cent.
Best of luck to anyone else with this problem.
Post in q and a thread. Might help other ppl

Yeah, I didn't think of that
I fixed the phone completely, she ordered some new buttons off of eBay for a buck with free shipping, gave them to me and I removed the existing buttons and changed all of them to new ones and now the phone works perfect. I guess as a temporary fix you can reflow the board to the point where you can back up your data, but for a long term fix you need to replace the buttons.
I hope this helps anyone else having this problem. I may have pictures of the process still I can upload if anyone is interested or needs help.

Hi, I have a sensation XE that i S Off-ed and rooted using FloWolf's EXCELLENT guide before installing CM 10.1-20130322-Albinoman887-pyramid. However, i started facing the issue of the hardware keys giving feedback when touched, but not working- instead, it happens as if the lowest part of the display, right above the key i pressed, has been touched. I updated to the 20130510 nightly but it did not fix the issue. I now want to try going back to the stock ROM but can't find an easy guide. I never took a backup of the stock ROM with CWM . I have the HBOOT 1.29 model
Now another issue has sprung up. Even when using a single finger, the phone sometimes behaves as if i'm multi-touching it. It only gets fixed if i lock and then unlock the screen.
Will going back to the stock rom fix these issues or will i have to get it repaired? If the stock rom will fix it, can i please get a link for it that's as easy as Flo's guide to rooting was. Thanks!

I am on ICS 4.0.3 and Stock ROM.
Since last few days, I am having somewhat similar touch screen issues after the warranty of my Sensation XE expired last month.
At any given random time of the day, my touch screen goes berserk....!!! I am using Apex Launcher and have folders containing various apps in the Dock. These folders start moving around/rearranging automatically, apps start opening randomly on their own, screen and navigation keys (red ones on bottom panel) become unresponsive, keyboard comes up on its own and characters appear as if being typed... etc. If I lock and unlock the screen (all hardware keys - volume & power - work fine during all this), touch screen becomes responsive again but only for a short period. Again the whole cycle repeats. The only way to stop this for longer period of time is restarting the phone. This state last upto anywhere between 6-10 hours be fore my phone acts up again. I have tried the Factory Reset too, but with no results.
I have installed Avast Mobile Security soon after I got my XE. I have also installed around 80-90 paid as well as free apps.
Currently my XE has free resources as follows:
RAM 640MB out of 1.1GB
SD Storage 25GB out of 29.71GB
Though the behavior looks like some kind of virus activity, Avast doesn't show any malware or virus on the system.
Which issue does this behavior pertain to, a hardware or a software issue?
Any kind of help to pinpoint the cause of this issue is greatly appreciated.
Thanks & Regards.
Hello,
I am having the exact same problem as the two mentioned above. Sometimes the thouch screen doesn't response at all, start doing things by itself or the capacitive buttons on the bottom doesn't respond. To fix the problem I have to press the on/off button to lock and unlock the phone but after a minute it's going all over again. I thought this maybe could be a memory problem, as if the phone simply hangs because it is acting very slow when the problem shows up.
Last weeks I've tried many ROMS as I thought it would be a mem problem. Cyanogenmod 10.1 and 10.2, ViperS 1.6.3 and 3.1.2, Android Revolution and with all these ROMS the same problem showed up. So I'm thinking it's almost for sure that this is a hardware problem. I got my Sensation XE in January 2012 so there's still a waranty of a half year. In case this is a hardware problem I'm thinking about sending the phone back to HTC, but I'm not sure about what is causing this problem.
So, if anyone knows the cause of this problem, please share It's really annoying and makes the phone pretty much unusuable. In October I will be able to get a new phone but it would be nice to have a very good one for spare
Thanks in advance!

Thanks a lot Far_SighT for pointing me in right direction.
As per the "Touchscreen Issues" topic in "General" category, my phone will be undergoing second cycle of "Pull Pin - Add Tin Foil - Drain Battery - Take out Battery - Press Power - Keep Battery outside overnight - Recharge fully without touching screen" procedure.
First cycle didn't help much, but as per the post I have to go through this cycle at least 2-3 times.
I will get back with the results.
Thanks & Regards.
Update:
Followed the steps in the "Touchscreen Issues" thread under "General" category, and it worked!!
All my touchscreen issues have been solved by that simple solution. A great post!!
Highly recommended for solving similar touchscreen issues, specially when you have dropped your phone.
Thanks & Regards.

Can you elaborate which step you think fixed the issue of having to press the power button to make the screen responsive? I went throught a full battery discharge-leave overnight-full charge without touching the phone, but i did this procedure only once and didnt have the patience to try again as it didnt improve the situation at all.:cyclops:

Please follow my last post in "Touchscreen Issues" thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239238&page=50
Mostly one cycle does not help as per my experience. I had to go through 3 complete cycles to get my XE fixed. It made huge difference only after second cycle.
Also, other than aluminum foil over the silver square on the side of back panel, place a piece of thin paper in the depression on the back panel (check the second snapshot in above thread) which should cover the metal casings of both SIM card and SD Card so that they do not touch the back panel.
The steps taken in the cycle after placing the foil and paper:
1] Drain the battery fully.
2] Remove the battery.
3] Press Power button as if trying to power on your mobile.
4] Leave the battery out for overnight.
5] Replace the battery and back panel taking care to see that both foil and paper are in correct positions.
6] Recharge your phone fully without touching the screen and without powering on (this to prevent you from using the phone. ).
7] Disconnect the charger and use your phone till battery drains out and phone is ready for next cycle.
Hope this is helpful to sort out your issue.:fingers-crossed:
Thanks & Regards.

Thanks for the tip but did that already. I read the OP well and a lot of pages in this topic but no luck so far. Stopped even trying because half October I will have a new phone, the One to be exact. So it's no use.
What I did try was the recalibration of the touch screen by flashing the image file. That worked for a few days maybe and now it's drama all over again. Sometimes I pull out the battery for a night, push the on/off button blabla but no luck too. I think it's actually half broken because on some spots on the screen it's registering no touch. I do have to admit my phone fell a couple of times past 2 years, without a case or something. So I guess for me the only option is a new digitizer.
Like i said, I really would like to have a good spare one. Went looking on E-Bay and for 16 dollars I found a digitizer for the Sensation 4G. I have a XE, will that work with that digitizer? A digitizer for the XE was 23 bucks, but if only the color of the capacitive buttons are different I don't care and I save 7 bucks
Thanks!
So I have been using nexus 5 from the start and a few months ago the phone started showing some weird signs.
It was shutting down every time I used the power button and if I tried to turn it on it would turn back off.
So I remapped the volume button as a power on and power off and even installed a custom ROM. It was all working perfectly , I was using volume button to turn on the screen. Sometimes I even used power button for screenshot and no problem.
But yesterday my phone just gave up one me.
It will go up to the google screen and then just stay there .
So I thought it was because of the aosp ROM so I managed to go into twrp recovery , wiped everything including system and flashed the stock image of marshmallow .
It did turn on and reached till the setup and page and then again turned off.
So now sometimes it does turn on goes to google screen and then shuts down.
I am able to go into bootloader mode by pressing volume down and power button .
But the damn phone won't go past google screen
Sometimes it does then it again turns off.
Does anyone knows what is happening?
Ive Been having same problem. Couldnt access factory reset Via recovery says only "No command".

I did open up my phone and cleaned it but it didn't work.
Are u sure about that?
I read somewhere on reddit that because of not using the nexus charging cable sometimes the boot ic gets damaged. Can that be the case?
It's the switch. Very common problem, I recently bought a 5-pack of the switches and replaced the one on my wife's phone.
How did you clean it? Did you use a bit of spray solvent in it (there are YouTube videos on this). Cleaning with solvent also did not work for me.
If you don't have the tools + experience needed, DO NOT TRY TO REPLACE THE SWITCH YOURSELF! The switch is smaller than a grain of rice and you can damage the phone.
It took me three tries - one of them I dropped the switch and lost it, one I bodged the soldering and had to remove the new item. My soldering iron is not the greatest but at least it has temperature control and I have multiple tips for it. The ground plane of the board that the switch solders to wicks a lot of heat and that makes it hard to get the old one off, the tiny through holes are very hard to clear.
So I suggest that you will need someone who has experience and the correct tools for soldering surface mount components for this job.
