BenQ E72 Additional Languages - General Topics

Hello,
Apologies beforehand if this is not in the correct place.
Being a new owner of the BenQ E72, I am trying to adapt the phone to my native language (Greek). The phone features Windows Mobile 6 Standard and supports the Greek language in terms of regional settings; however, it's not possible to type in Greek either via the numeric pad or T9 (absent).
After browsing these forums (and a lot Google-ing), I've collected some T9 Greek components in order to try to add the Greek language to it. Careful examination of the registry does not provide any clues about the existance of xT9, so I assume that the phone features the "standard" T9 (the 'old' one).
The problem is that even if the Greek T9 is recognized, it does not work on all applications, particularly the Messaging application (SMS). When the Greek T9 IME is selected, I cannot enter any words and the phone just beeps. The rest of the system correctly recognizes the Greek T9 IME and I can use it (e.g creating a new task, typing in Greek using T9 is possible).
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
Many thanks in advance.

No ideas about this?

Programmaticaly change T9 language?

Hi!
I need for my app the function of changing the T9 language WM uses, for example between Norwegian and Swedish, if those are the languages installed.
Can't seem to find anything valuable on google or at msdn, does anybody know of a registry key, API or similar that might be helpful?

Adding/Replacing T9 System Files

Hello,
I am trying to install the Greek T9 support files on my BenQ E72 smartphone. Everything I tried from this forum (used search extensively) has failed because although the language is installed, it's impossible to type using Greek T9 in the Messaging application (e.g SMS).
The WM6 Standard BenQ E72 ROM comes with English, Russian, Spanish, Polski and Turkish T9 languages and the core T9 components versions are:
T9Ime.dll: T9 IME v01.04.00 - T9 v07.01.04 (Mar 19 2008)
T9ImePrefs: T9 IME v01.04.00 - T9 v07.01.04 (Jul 2 2007)
T9aw.dll: T9 IME v01.04.00 - T9 v07.01.04 (Jul 2 2007)
The English T9 module: T9 LDB v06.17.03.00 l0109.0F (Jul 3 2007)
Does anyone have a compatible Greek T9 LDB with this version? All tried methods fail to replace the ROM versions of the core files and this is probably the reason T9 does not work on all applications (particularly in SMS editor).
I am really disappointed not being able to fix this (simple) problem, but I can't find a compatible Greek T9 LDB.
Many thanks in advance for your help.
Edit: I'm posting this in the Q&A area with a more generic approach since this could be applied to other ROMs as well.
Update
I suspect that I need the T9 files in HP iPAQ 540 ROM, since the device comes with WM6 Standard (from the factory).
The problem is that I do not know anyone here that has this device and trying to dump the ROM with TyphoonNbf Tools failed.
Any help?
I bought BenQ E72 yesterday and I have the same problem with greek!
I hope we can find a solution...

Touch Pro 2: SIP Question - Installed Sogou Pinyin

Hi there,
First thread here for me. I've recently purchased a Touch Pro 2 ( Rhodium T7373 ) model number RHO100. It's a UK branded (i'm from the UK) one from vodafone but unlocked and flashed with the recent winM 6.5 ROM from HTC.
So I'm living in Australia, but I regularly converse with people from China ( friends and business ) and I use the sogou pinyin input system on all my computers. I found out they provide an IME for Windows Mobile at shouji.sogou.com.
So I downloaded it and installed on my TP2. It works wonderfully, much better than that piece of trash CE-Star. So far so good....
Anyway, here's the rub:
It's a tiny tiny issue but seeing as I'm British and living in Australia, my communications through mobile are predominantly in English. Ever since I installed the sogou pinyin IME every time I soft reset the phone, the Sogou input system is activated by default. If I change it back to the english it will stay that way until another soft reset, and baboom, there is sogou.
Whilst I love the input system, I'm such an anal retentive when it comes to little details like this, I'd rather not have the input system and have my english default than have to change every time after a soft reset I want to input english.
Is there a quick decisive way to restore the "Full QWERTY" option as the default when I turn the phone on. I'm not scared of editing the registry directly. I just need pointing in the right direction, be it to software or a registry.
I've already done my own research and I got as far as finding the "default SIP" registry key, but unfortunately for me it it seems like it's an encoded value, i.e. a non human readable value and I have no reference values for the HTC default or any other.
Care to indulge me with a quick hit of registry magic? I've tried SIPChange and I don't like it, seems to error out on boot for my TP2. Thanks.

No dice people?
I feel your pain, pal. I know exactly what you're describing since I'm a bit anal too. Assuming you read Chinese, the following post may enlighten you a bit:
http://www.mobile01.com/topicdetail.php?f=129&t=944511
The post suggested editing the following registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\Preload\1\
Default=e0010404 -> Traditional Chinese
Default=e0010409 -> English
I am no master in registry editing, but from what I read, it appears that there are different Keyboard Layouts. Your TP2's default layout is e0010409 English. After you install Chinese IME, it changes to e0010404 Traditional Chinese, which is why your Sogou input system is activated after a soft reset. Now if you change that registry back e0010409, it will now default back to English AND DISABLING CHINESE INPUT in the process. With that said, since this registry can be changed on the fly, I assume you can write a MortScript to change swap them whenever you need to input Chinese.
Hope this helps and let me know if you ever come across a better solution.
I would also appreciate if someone here can better explain how these keyboard related registries work. I can read manuals, just need some good pointers, thanks!
Just found a better solution. Apparently PlumSIP http://www.dayhand.com/ is a Chinese input system that is registered as an English (e0010409) keyboard layout. That is, it can switch between Chinese and English input without touching the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\keyboard layout\Preload\1\Default registry.
With this setup, you will have English as default input method, and can switch to Chinese when you need to.
Found an even better solution. Sogou just puts a shortcut to it's own process in your \windows\startup\ directory. If you delete that, Sogou isn't the default SIP anymore. YES!
Used this solution for HTC HD Mini, and now am satisfied with the result after deleting from the Sogou shortcut from directory. Nice help here, thanks...

[Updated 15/4/2010][Samsung-i600] Russian input [problem partially solved but still.]

Hey everyone. I've got a Samsung I600 but its USB port seems not working now...
The ROM is WM6.1 OS and preinstalled with a Chinese input software (But not T9, I don't see any T9 in this ROM..)
THE THING IS, that I need to type in Russian alphabets, so is there any kind of input software for QWERTY keyboard to type in Russian alphabets?
I searched for the forum but only found Russian input softwares for touch-screen devices. Such as Resco or FingerKey etc. etc.
If necessary, I'd rather delete the original Chinese input software for the privilege of typing in Russian....
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
=================================
Update a bit,
I renamed the folder of Chinese IME and successfully blocked it (It's in some way just like a cockroach for me...). And I installed the T9 Russian input to my i600 device successfully.
tinyurl.[com]/ybvsq8a
But the question is, that the T9 that I installed is for Numpad phones, i.e. the keyboard layout is completely out of control! And to type in Russian I can only use num keys instead of qwerty-йцукен keyboard.
I wanna solve the problem cos it also affects my English input. that is to say, if I switch to ABC mode, Q=Q,W=W, but T=а\б\в, U=г\д\е etc. etc.
I checked the document below but was baffled, cos it's for German and the keyboard is completely different, I can't find where to put Б and Ю on my i600 keyboard...
tinyurl.[com]/y4kux3l
SO...I STILL NEED HELP..
Maybe a specially designed T9 for qwerty keyboard will work or, I want to know how to redefine i600's keyboard layout.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

But I've got no T9 in my ROM.... so this won't work.
I'm just wondering if there is any kind of software, for example that creates a virtual keyboard for Cyrillic alphabets or something like that...?
BTW How to say 'Input software' in Russian? I looked for it in the dic but no clues...

Multilingual ROM

Hi all!
A lot of users want to use several input languages in their devices. Why not cooking a really multi-language ROM supporting UIs in different languages and multiple keyboard layouts? It is possible as some devices (e.g. Samsung OmniaPro) are delivered with a ROM supporting UI and HW/SW keyboard resources in several languages which every user can switch. I've also read about such custom ROMs for HTC Touch. Additionaly, in ROMs for non-latin languages (like Russian, Chinese) user can switch between latin and national keyboard layout by pressing the SYM button, and there are solutions like AEKMap.
What is to be done to create a ML ROM work, is to integrate
1) *.mui system files for several languages
2) an app (basically a registry updater) where user can activate a particular UI language and which keyboard layouts (one, or two, or maybe three?) have to be switched by pressing the SYM button.
My personal use case is as follows: I own a HTC P4350 with standard German ROM (6.0) and QWERTZ layout and need two things: 1) the additional Russian input for the hardware keyboard and 2) Russian UI. The only way now is flashing a Russian ROM - which will alas change QWERTZ (Ger) to QWERTY (Eng) and then using a tweak to set the layout back to QWERTY (yes, I've read those threads).
I've experimented a little bit without flashing, just by copying *.0419.mui files to the device (0419 for RU) and editing the registry like advised in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366756. However there is obviously more to be changed or added than I could discover. The best method to catch all the differencies is probably to compare two registries of same ROM version but in different languages, or to check solutions for other devices.
What do you think? Can someone try to cook a ML ROM? No matter WM 6.0, 6.1 or 6.5.
You see the main problem in doing that is the conflicts that would occur in creating a ml ROM.
But what we can do is install apps like FingerKeyboard with ml support and doing as you're doing.
But the conflicts I am talking about may render your device useless.
Tribulattifather, thanks for your point.
1. Why should there be conflicts with P4350 if there are apparently none with other devices? Which conflicts for example?
2. FingerKeyboard is for the screen keyboard, but I'm talking about the hardware keyboard.
Look at this:
msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa911786.aspx
msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa913008.aspx
I apologize, I forgot to mention the problems in my last post. You see, I have actually tried to adopt a similar theory. The problems that I faced where in the process of cooking the ROM. The ROM would not boot. And when I finally got 1 ROM that was a German/WWE combo, the device would constantly shut down because the device was trying to call to an operation expecting one thing and getting another.
But maybe we can figure something out from an already cooked ROM in WWE. I will experiment and let you know what I find out.
Tribulattifather, what you describe sounds more like a kitchen problem, because, as I've already mentionned, there are official multilingual WM ROMs. I have another mobile device, a Samsung OmniaPro P7330, which runs under official WM6.5 with a ROM supporting English US, English UK, German, Italian, French and Spanish UIs. There is a menu item in Regional Settings for switching the UI, it requires a soft reset, and voila, after the reboot everything is in another language (but not the keyboard layout).
On the other hand, official ROMs for non-latin languages like Russian support two input methods, one for Russian and one for English.
It would be great to figure out how it works. Can a look into registry dumps from a Herald with Russian firmware and from my multilingual-UI'ed smartphone help you?
