Hey guy, i have the Omnia i-900 Samsung PDA Phone,
I have an issue, When ever you turn on your mobile? The Windows Mobile 6.1 instantly connects your phone to have 3.5G packet Data Connection ( Vodafone AU Internet)
This problemas has charged me over 260 dollars lol and i dont even use the net..
I know i can turn it off by, disconnecting the data connection, by pressing Disconnect on the Tab on top displaying the 3.5G+ Icon. But i think sometimes it sometimes connect back again... i ended all of the tasks as well
Is there a way to permanently disable 3.5g active data connection witout having to delete the vodafone setting? or soft-reset your mobile, without having to worry that your fone will connect to the internet if you dont want to...
I only want to use the internet when ever i want to, like on demand..
Thanks in advance guyz.
1. PDA should not automatically connect Data connection, except if U have some app in autostart which needs Data.
At least mine doesn't connect.
2. You might try to force only GSM connection. Try to disable HSDPA in Settings->Connections. Not sure that will help...
Oh, and does autoconnect happens after soft-reset too?
Start, settings, connections tab, connections, advanced tab, net selections (the first on top) and select in both windows the "office net". So it can use only the wi-fi connection. Confirm all and finally soft reset.
The names that i told may be different, because i have translate them from my italian rom.
I have the Diamond, but it had your same problem. With this solution, no more problems to me.
Ciao
There is probably an application that requires internet access. It could be a weather app that loads fresh data, Windows update, an IM app and so on.
Have a look around your applications (and settings) and I'm sure you will find the culprit

cant switch off the edge icon in commmanager. it goes always on....
if i try 2 or 3 times it s off...mmmm
the next problem is that if i like to switch on wlan an dhe ask me the key, edge goes on too...
what happen to my best smartphone vox????
i need help
thanx
Is there some software running that requires internet access? If so it might be configured wrong, so that it wants to use EDGE-internet connection instead of Wifi-connection! Look in the task manager if there is an unusual program or process running!
This happends to me when the Windows Live Messenger is running and it is connected.
When I turn it off, I can switch off the edge (gprs) connection normaly.
This will happen when any application is running that requires an EDGE/GPRS connection.
This will also happen if you leave EDGE and bounce down to GPRS and the other way around.
My Touch Cruise has started to develop a strange tic. I'm using Bepe's 0.67 WWE ROM, and 1.64.08.21 Radio, and things worked fine for a long while.
Recently, my phone has stopped automatically connecting to WiFi when I switch it on. I get the notification telling me about networks it's found (not including my preferred network, generally), whether I switch that off in the settings or not, and no matter how many times I select "Do Not Show This Message Again". If I go to the WiFi settings, I can then select my preferred network and press Connect and it will connect (even if it claims it's unavailable!)
It's a pain, but it's not game breaking - I just need to manually connect to WiFi every time I switch on the phone at home. So, anyone have any ideas why my phone might suddenly be behaving like this, and how I can get it to automatically connect again like it used to? Thanks...
i have the same problem and no answer.
i think it's something with bepe's rom...
oh wait,
for a while i tested wefi and i think the
problem began after uninstalling wefi!
This happens to me occasionally on the standard dutch ROM too, not al the time though.
I hope someone can help me with this. if i turn off data connection in comm manager it automaticly turns back on. i tried to stop the weather program and e-mail sync. but that does not seem to work either .
there must be something i am doing wrong . i always thought that the comm manager was a sort of master switch just as it works with wifi or flightmode. which does not turn on automaticly.
battery life is taking a big hit from 3g always on and not to mention data cost when traveling.
Thanks,
Rob
There was another tip provided on Diamond forum how to switch off 3G transfer and it works for TP also.
I'm wondering because on my TP I have 3G icon or E or G but it doesn't mean that I'm transfering any data and depleting my battery right ?
It's just information that 3G is available from provider right ?

I've found this solution on ... Polish Diamond forum
You need to use nodata soft
http://pdaclubjaspik.blogspot.com/2008/04/nowy-connection-mgr-dla-pda-nodata-type.html
and file here:

Just install and untick connection you want to disable.

thank you, will try it out!
my problem is slightly diff. after upgrade of latest ROM from ATT Fuze website, now whenever i disconnect phone call, it automatically connects to EDGE. How to stop this?
I have Gonzo's version running on my Vox.
I would like to disable the data connection when I am out of my service area, so I go into the comm manager, and click on it to disable it.
It will then move the radio button to off, but then the whole "Data Connection" section gets greyed out. I can not click on it anymore. After about 5 minutes, if i go back into the comm manager, the data connection is back on and the section is no longer greyed out.
Any help with what is going on here would be much appreciated!
Thanks.
Seems like some software on your phone is turning it back on again.
Try using NoData.
open RSS Hub - open Settings and change Auto Download to never.
Hello. I have the same problem (data connection grey/inactive), although I never turned of the radio. I have tried rss hub/menu/options/autoupdate/noautoupdate and also tried NoData but it doesn't initiate (an error of some kind).
But he big problem is that ActiveSync refuses to conect to the Vox and i hoped that fixing Data Connection would get rid of the problem. I would very much appreciate any useful input. Thx
There's an option in ActiveSync's connectionproperties to Allow wireless connections when connected to the desktop computer.
Nodata did it's job. I no longer download any e-mail or get internet access. However, it made my phone pretty sluggish, and I still received MMS messages (which are downloaded via my data connection). Is there any way to stop these as well?
I also made the suggested change in RSS hub. However, when I tuned off data connection in the comm manager, I had the same result: The data connection turns off when i click on it, but anytime thereafter the data connection option is greyed out... I can't turn it ON or off.... which is obviously a problem? -- Any suggestions for this? -- This is happening indefinitely now. It no longer appears as an option, leaving me permanently without a data connection
Also, is there another version of the comm manager buried somewhere on my phone. I seem to remember it looking differently before. I'm currently accessing it via the power button, then (5)Comm Manager.
Thanks again!
In no data disable each and every data connection in the list. That should stop mms download. BTW which of Gonzo's ROM are you using, had you specified that would have helped since not long time back, Dr. G used to give us one great ROM after another. If its WM 6 ROM, then may be you should switch to 6.1 ROM since it is much faster.
Ah, sorry, I have the last release that he did (6.1).
The only connection in nodata is my GPRS connection. I use this connection for both internet and MMS. Although, disabling it only disabled internet usage, and I still get MMS messages. Very strange.
What i'd like to do it to setup the WiFi as my primary connection, something the connections manager wouldn't allow me to do. I want it to try & bring up the WiFi connection instead of attempting to bring up the 3G when a program attempts to access the internet. Also, i'd like it to bring it back down after some inactivity timeout.
I've searched the forum, and googled the internet in general, and found multitudes of threads, but none gets any close to the solution. Isn't there some way to setup a fake modem or something, configure a fake connection on it in the connections manager, and turn the WiFi on inside the fake modem program on connection attempt ? Or some other way to cheat the system so it threats WiFi connection same way it threats other connections in connection establishin aspect ?
Well, any ideas ?
try using g-profile from ageye as you can set applciations to use a wifi then when they close to go back -> turning off the wifi connection.
I know this doesnt fully solve the problem but it may solve part of it at least until a full solution is found
