[Q] Screen replacement

Anybody have a tutorial on replacing the screen on the Mesmerize? Diagrams or pictures would be helpful. Thanks

1. Drive to US Cellular store.
2. Hand phone to service tech or sales person.
3. Receive new phone under no questions asked replacement plan.
4.
If this isn't an option. I'm not sure about the diagrams. I tried looking them up in the service tech's stuff and he doesn't even have them yet. It's still too new, since none of them are out of warranty yet. It sounds painful, though. Sorry you have had to go through that already.

so how exactly did you break it?

Uh, yeah no phone replacement unless you have the family premium plus plan for an extra $40 a month.
Still not sure how it cracked, no visible damage and the outer screen is intact with no scratches at all.
I found a link for anybody that might need it. Check out repair universe dot com.

3 days after a friend got her mesmerize she droped it on the side walk. Her screen is reallly messed up now still runs and it still responsive to touch just has about 30 cracks in it looks like a broken mirror.

Couldn't you just call and sign up for the insurance and then file a claim? All they do is call you to make sure the phone works. There's no way for them to know it's already broke.

Yeah they give you 90 days or something..

Yea mine screen crack also. In process on removing the glass from the lcd screen. Was going to put it back together after I get the glass off and see if it will still work. I know it was still working before just couldn't read anything because of all the cracks in the cover glass.

What do you do to break the glass?

Mine broke when I threw it onto my desk. Dumb move by myself but I didn't even put any force behind it really and i've always done it with my other phones. Think it broke because I wasn't paying enough attention and it laided on a glass glass plate. Sound like a explosion when it hit. The back flew off and bat fell out. My bat is now bowed oddly enough. For if you sit it in the phone the bow make it so it will not sit flush. It is not swelling but actually bowed. Because the other side is now equally bowing in as the other side is bowing out.

I'm assuming you don't have the free replacement plan?

Naw don't have the plan(I have no service with it got it just to use as a test bed) just gonna order a replacement screen. Saw one for $100 including shipping. I didn't pay anything for it so paying $100 to fix screen no real big deal.
I wanted to play around with one before I actually gotten service with one. I like it ok. Main thing I wanted to do is try and replace the rear facing cam with a nicer one. If I can get a rear cam in it like the EVO has then I gonna get my lady one and prob get one for myself(the BOGO deal ya know.) Really my only complaint with the phone is its 5mp cam. I have a friend with the EVO and it has a 8mp cam and the pictures just seem so much nicer. That is only thing my wife complained about also. As she wants a phone with a really good cam for she can use it for her photographing hobby.

dissasembling an HTC inspire- stuff behind screen!

wondering if anyone has ever dissasembled thier inspire before....if its hard, tricky, details.
wierd thing, i dropped my phone yesterday, as it was falling i fumbled for it, smacked it up agains the wall in my house. Bits of drywall got wedged between the screen and the body of the phone, as i was trying to get it out with a thin knife, some of it dropped down inside the phone. i want to get it out because i have a feeling it will ende up making white dust in my screen.
another reason id like to get it open is to see if i can get the bottom right coner of the phone re-secured. its loose and floats up and down.

DO NOT DO THIS! Not that you don't have the ability to do so...But because this phone has not been on the market for a year yet. the screen coming up is a defect. Get it replaced.
EDIT: A EXTREMELY slight movement is normal. It has to give to be stable. It's kind of the same concept behind a wooden roller coaster. Some, very minor flex is required, as it actually supplies more structural integrity. Now...If you had a knife under the screen, that is far too much flex, and should in fact be replaced.

lol i think you are misunderstanding me, i was just trying to scrape the drywall from the little gap between the body and the screen on the left side fo the phone, i wasnt prying under it. the bottom right corner is something seperate. its not coming completely apart but it flexes noticeable up and down and make the screen turn funny colors there. ive read that its a common thing, but its not bad enough for me to want to send my phone in for replacement. i didnt get it from at&t

Ah ok. I understand now. And I know what you need to get ALL of it out in seconds! You need Cyber Clean. I got some for Christmas and this stuff is amazing! Attached is what to look for. You can find it at Target normally in a little pouch. Got mine from thinkgeek and got a whole tub.
Damn...I sounded like Billy Mays there for a second. haha

You really don't want to try to tackle taking this phone apart.. it is prolly one of the hardest phones to do.

Funny my screen "flexes" on the bottom right corner. It really bugs me, its stupid, but I wish I could fix it. It pops up, then I push it down. It's stays for less than 10min and pops back up. I'm not sure if its worth the hassle to call HTC.

I used a clamp on mine last night. Placed a cloth between it and the phone and let the clamp do its thing for about 10 hours before taking it off this morning. I can see and tell a noticeable improvement. No flex. But only time will tell if this did the trick or not. So far after 3 hours it has not come up at the corner.

will HTC really replace the phone over this corner issue? i dont think im going to be able to get the drywall out of my phone and its really bugging me, its wedged in theere HARD. hard enought to make the body of the phone flex away from the side of the screen......and there some thin plastic layer between the phone body and the side of the screen.....which i have messed up by trying to scrape the drywall out with a knife. boo. phone works perfectly but i hate the cosmetic issues

Have other people been having the screen coming up problem? Mine is so severe that I can see light bleed on the bottom right hand corner. Wonder if it's covered by AT&T warranty

I just started having this same proble.I am TIIIIIIIRRRRRREEEDDDDD of ATT's crap though. I have been on the phone with them for 32 hrs in 38 days with now 4 different phones and I LOVE the Inspire. I am having the same issues now though where the screen is coming up and it's really really annoying. I mean REALLY annoying. I am thinking to just put an otter box defender on it and it will be fine? Can anyone confirm that the defender will keep the screen in place or any case for that matter?

I bought a silicon cover for $2 shipped off ebay and I didn't notice this issue until I just checked after reading this thread. The cover adds some serious bulk to the phone, but kept it from breaking when I dropped it from upper chest level on concrete (I'm 5'11"... and I swiped too far and caught the edge with my thumb. I almost cried).
P.S. It still hit hard enough to gouge the metal through the thick silicon

G2X screen bleed fix

All you need to do to fix the screen bleed is loosen the screws on the back of the phone. Ya'll are crazy taking multiple trips to tmobile, picking up all these phones and having the same problem everytime. Man, such an easy fix for such a huge fiasco.
I might add, it may be necessary to get further inside the phone to loosen screws. That would of course mean breaking the "void" sticker covering one of the screws. I haven't tried this yet, but loosening the outer screws did a lot of good for now.
If anyone has a teardown of the g2x, post it! this would be greatly helpful.

My boy got that problem on his ima try it later on his device mines has very little in the corner but it doesn't even bother me .....actually nothing really bothers me about this device I love it oh wait one thing I'm missing from my mytouch 4g ....the optical track pad thing lol.....other than that this phone is great .....I get the casual network disconnects but ehh what phone doesn't .....

Loosening the screws won't help with the light bleed though since it's due to an improper sealing of the lcd panel. Tightening or loosening the screws won't change that.
As for the actual backlight bleed effect, I'm pretty sure that's a result of the light bleed but I'm not 100% sure so if anyone is brave enough to try it, it would be much appreciated.

Step by step? 1) put screw driver in screw and turn lefty loosy 2) repeat step for other screws.
The logic behind this process is to remove pressure on the corners of the screen. If you push down in the middle of the screen, you get screen bleed in the middle. So, if you pull back a bit on the inside housing (after back cover is removed and screws are loosened), you can see the screen bleed move around and sort of disappear.

I guess it's possible that the bleed is caused by too much pressure? Improperly torqued screws? I'd say the theory is plausible but it doesn't bother me enough to try. Thanks for the info OP!

That actually does make sense cuz i think he re edit his post saying it will void the warranty and when I first looked at the post it didn't have thy part as I recall

My void sticker is on the middle screw so just for kicks I went ahead and loosened the top left screw. Did absolutely nothing. This thread needs to be locked for misinforming users.

Can someone else try this please. I don't expect anyone to void there warranty to see if this works but if you just loosen the outside screw it will not void your warranty. I don't have a screw driver small enough. This doesn't sound plausible but it does make me curious. If nobody does it tonight, I will buy a smaller screw driver tomorrow and try it.

yea tried it, this does nothing.

I would be more then happy to take apart my phone. however the link provided with the photos is not enough to go on and disassembly it gets me to the core but it seems to stop there.

well, i'm not sure about your phones, but my G2x does not have the "void" sticker over the screw holes....
when removing the battery cover all the screws are accessible... is the "void" sticker maybe under the cover beneath the battery cover?

So I Was Replacing My Invisible Shield And I Thought It Be Cool To Put A Hairdryer To The Screen... (That Way All The Humidity And Micro Bubbles Would Go Away) And When I Went To unlock The Phone.. It Lost Its Sesitivity... So I Turned It Off.... Tried Turning It On... And Smh.. It Shows "HTC" Then Goes From White To Black...And Has A Big ASS Screen Bleed Now.. Will Warrenty Cover THis?? Or Is Therte Away Around THis..........????

Might need to replace the digitizer. Try finding out if its covered under the warranty. Don't tell them the truth, just tell them that you woke up after leaving it charged and that when you touch the phone it had restarted and that it was hot and that's what happens.

And we wonder why companies are getting harder and harder on folks who need to do legitimate exchanges. Be honest or just buy a digitizer. Dishonesty is what got this country where it is now!

Agreed. Warranties are for product defects....not owner gray matter defects

Could it be he needs to replace the lcd instead of the digitizer? He said the screen was bleeding.

Can't say I disagree with this but I recommend telling the truth... and that truth is:
1. He turned it on.
2. It doesn't work.
3. Warranty replacement please.

(Im Going To Post Some pics A Lil Later im @ Work) Well Today Is Day 2 And The Phone Shows An Image But Very Very Dim... Idk If I Messed Up The Sensor... Did I Mention I Put The Hair dryer On High?... Ive Just Seen How The Guys At the Mall That Put The Zagg Protectors they Use Hair Dryers And It Works Fine.. But Yea Its Kinda Dim... i Can Barely See, And For Those Who Have Sensation.. (Im Assuming Everyone.)...Theres 2 White Stickers behind The Phone (the Ones That If You Wet It, It Gets Red) Theres One At The Bottom Right Corner.. And I Think While I Was Putting The Screen Protector I Wet It... Cuz Its Red... Do u Think It'll Mess Up the Warrenty?

Seriously, why on EARTH did you put a hair dryer to your phone... No offence, but it's your own fault. This is why it's so hard to get legit replacements and why insurance costs a fortune.
This is why we can't have nice things!

I've changed many screens and digitisers, I'ts common ground to use a hairdryer to heat the screen to warm up the glue before you pull it apart! Honestly you must have been heating it for a good 10-15 minutes man,Next time do it in 1 min spurts.

Is there a reason why you have to capitalize every single word? It makes your posts hard to read.
Getting the stickers wet is very bad, honestly I think that your chances of getting it RMA'd are pretty slim. You can try replacing the screen if you're handy with that kind of stuff but a new lcd won't be cheap.

Yea if u leave the sticker red they wont replace it. And there are ways to change it back to white, I'm not going to tell u how but if u want to know look it up, reason I'm not telling is cuz how do I no u didn't drop it in water. And about the screen y n the hell would u have it on high? U do no that hairdriers get hot right, and heat can F**k things up right. O n next time heat the screen protector up first (and not while on the phone) then apply it to the screen, and rub the air bubbles out.

What If i Pull the Sticker off..? Its Only Like A Dot Big

Bezel Scratched Out of the Box

Hi guys,
The bezel on my charcoal black Galaxy S5 evidently was scratched during assembly. Has anybody else had this problem? I didn't even notice the problem for a few days because it only shows up when light hits it the right way, and it had been overcast for a couple of days after I bought it.
Now -- my local Sprint Store is telling me that, and I quote: "they've never seen a bezel scratched right out of the box" and insinuating that I am trying to take advantage of them. All I want is a phone that isn't damaged out of the box!
I had to go through a nightmare last time I visited my Sprint Store because of a dead pixel for an HTC device. So this time I called ahead to try to make sure I won't have any problems getting it exchanged... Right now they the sales rep said he has to talk to his manager before letting me know.
It's sad that Sprint employees seem to assume everything is the customer's fault until proven otherwise.
Anyway just felt a need to vent. BTW -- the scuff is on the top chrome -- adjacent to the volume button. Kind of looks like maybe the assembler tried using a tool to snap things together and didn't put a cloth on top first or something to protect it. Oh well!

Edit: Just got a call back -- they say since I'm within 14 days it doesn't matter if they believe me or not -- they will still do the exchange. I guess I'll just have to be happy knowing in my heart that I'm being honest and didn't make the scratches.

Just got my replacement phone. Bezel is scratched again -- on the left side, but lower down this time. Guess it's a "feature" -- I'll learn to live with it. Phone is too awesome otherwise.

You gotta be kidding; two in a row? That's some LG s*** right there! I went through 3 G2Xs before the carrier finally let me have a better device. Always inspect that thing as soon as you get it. Me? I always look it over, root and ROM it the first day. That way if anything goes wrong, you can take it right back. Had to do it with a Rezound once too. Get a good case and you'll never notice it.....but you'll still know it's there.....

Any suggestions on a good case that covers the bezel without making it look like it's wearing armor an inch thick? Got an S View right now its OK but of course isn't meant to cover the bezel... and it won't stay closed either... ?
