Hi, I'm having a problem with charging my phone. When I put the cord all the way in, it won/t charge, but when it is slightly in it will charge for a little bit. Then it will just stop charging, but the amber light will still flicker like it is getting a trickle charge. I'm stumped, any ideas?
Hmmm... looks like hardware problem.
Does it happen during both charging from wall outlet and from PC?
Please state type of device you are using...
My bad, it's a HTC Tytn II. I haven't tried hooking it up to a PC yet, but I have tried another charger to make sure that it wasn't the charger.
Ah, more info. That's better.
But also looks like bad luck, meaning bad or broken contacts on charging plug.
If it is laptop, that could also mean motherboard problem. But not sure if that's case with PDA's...
try contacting ur service provider..if its less than 2yrs old they should (our do) send it away for repair free of charge. (or at least tell u how much it'll be if damage is due to mishandled.)
If I plug it into my computer it'll charge for a little bit, and then stop again. So, hopefully it'll keep charging a little bit.

The tablet needs a new charging/interface port and was wondering if anyone knows where I can get one?
I have searched Ebay and the net for a used/new one. The port looks fine but when plugging the cable in it won't charge. Sometimes I can get it to if I push and hold it just right however this is tricky to do and does not work often. So right now it is a dead brick. The pins must not be making full contact for some reason.
Ive bought parts from these guys before, I don't see a charging port but might be worth giving them an email and asking

Thanks but I would rather not have to order parts from Sweden. If I have to I'll just keep watching Ebay. Every so often one pops up but doesn't last very long.
Good luck
The parts I ordered took about 4-6 weeks to arrive iirc
Just installed a new (used off Ebay) charging port with fingers crossed that it will allow the tablet to charge. I also have a new high quality charging cord (PWR+) and two ASUS wall chargers that I know work. Plugged the tablet in and was relieved to see the tablet come right on and show it charging. Let it charge to about 20% and then decided to unplug it so I could put the ring back on the tablet so it is all back together. Get the ring on and plug the tablet back in and nothing. I'm about to throw this thing in the trash right now. So fed up with these charging issues. What changed? All I did was unplug it, put the ring on, and plug back in.
So for kicks I decide to try the other wall charger and what do you know....it came on immediately and started charging and is still charging. I'm afraid to touch the thing now. Seems once it is charging and undisturbed it will charge to 100% no problem. However, when going to recharge it won't charge. Could there be something in the charging mechanism causing the thermal to trip in the wall chargers? Is there possibly a small short somewhere in the charging mechanism? Anyone have an opinion on why this is happening? Only other thing I can think of is doing a full wipe/reset and maybe flashing another rom (is currently on newest Android Revolution HD) once it is charged up.
Could the ring (I assume you mean Bezel ? ) or the screws near the port be shorting the charging port to earth/ground/chassis ?

Yep.. Sry.. The bezel. Not sure how but anything is possible. Would indicate to me a faulty charging port or charger cord and is happening on multiple. Tablet is still allowing me to charge it at this time after switching chargers and with the bezel on so will have to see how it goes.
Sent from my tricked out S4.
Fingers crossed it was a coincidence with the first charger, if not, I'd try taking the bezel off again and see if you can spot the short / see if it works again with the bezel off, or even just with the screws out
Hopefully I don't get flamed for this as I have been doing searches but so far nothing...
I got my HTC OneXL and that night I flashed Viper onto it. I don't know if it's the ROM or the phone itself, but it takes a really long time to charge. I plugged it in 2 hrs ago at 50% and I'm only now at 60%.
Battery life is hard to know length as I've had the phone a week and have been customizing and setting it up etc.
Is the charging a known issue to the phone or is it the ROM? I'm coming from the Iphone 4S and that thing charged up really fast.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Charging it from the pc or from the wall? Using the cable and power adapter it came with?
10 percent in 2 hours is slow. Typically in 2 hours I'll get about 50 percent or more.
If you have a 30 day faulty return policy I would take advantage and make sure they replace the power adapter too. Typically they would of course but I thought I'd specify just in case they wouldn't want to for whatever reason.
If you don't have a return policy available, I would try another usb power adapter for a couple hours as that would be my first guess as the culprit for this though it could also be an issue within the phone.

I had the phone given to me and it didn't come with the original cord. I'm using the cord from my Xoom so that could be it...
Sometimes I use the wall charger, sometimes my pc and sometimes the USB port in my car. Guess I'll have to try and track down the actual cord and see if that works. It'd be cool if those dots on the back had an actual charger that worked for them!

Charging from a PC is slow, and from a car is extremely slow. If the 10% in 2 hours is from car charging, it would not surprise me, and pretty normal.
MicroUSB chargers or cords from most phones will work just fine on the this device, but don't know about the Xoom. I suspect either the charge source (car, PC) or cord may be the issue here.
Also keep in mind, that after a ROM flash, the battery meter is not completely accurate. You have to do a charge cycle to full, then drain to 10-20% for the high/low "flags" to be properly set. This might be part of the issue. But I haven't seen it cause such a slow increase in readings while charging, so I don't think its your main problem.
Ok, first a little background on this issue...
After having my S3 for about 13-14 months I started having charging issues. The charging port was very "loose" and I had to make sure my charger cable was in just right to get my phone to charge. This was annoying, however was out of warranty and didn't want to pay vzw for an insurance claim. This got worse, and eventually I noticed my phone would only charge with 1 specific usb cable, 1 specific wall charger, and 1 specific car charger.
Well, I finally called Samsung and explained the situation to them and they had me chip my phone to them and they would repair it, free of charge. When they had it, they replaced the charging port, the headphone jack, and the screen. I received the phone back after couple weeks, super excited, and immediately charged it up with the cable I had next to my bed. New charging port felt perfect, nice snug fit, etc... Well, after a few days i hooked it up with the original usb cable that came with the phone, nothing happened. So i started messing around and realized that the only usb cables that will charge my phone are Motorola brand cables! At least the 2 cables I have work, and not a single other cable I've tried works! This includes stock Samsung cable, many cheap 3rd party cables, other friend's S3 cables, none work. Also, I have this cheap car charger that is the type you plug a USB cable into that works, however any other car charger I've tried does not work either.
Also, when i say the cables won't charge my phone, it also won't connect the phone to a PC. They do absolutely nothing.
Does anyone have ANY idea why this is happening?!?! It was an issue before Samsung repaired my phone, they replaced the charging port, but I still have this issue!! I can send it back to Samsung for them to look at it again, however my backup phone, a Razr Maxx, just died also. Seems like the battery went dead and now I can't get it to charge, but that's another issue.
So, any ideas?!

What rom/kernal
It doesn't matter. It does this when it is totally stock and rooted. Right now I'm not rooted or anything because it looks like it may be going back to Samsung again.

I think the smart charging circuit may be messed up
Really? How would that cause the phone to not work with any cable except a certain brand?? I'm just really curious and this is driving me insane!!

I would say you are putting mechanical stress on the charging port. This could be from some misaligned or mis-made cable or somehow pressing or pulling the charge cable when its connected. I've never seen this reported by anyone else, but the mechanical connections are not indestructible. If it were a common symptom with 100 million S3s having been sold, there would be a firestorm of complaints.
I have a similar issue. I'm not sure if it's the device or the ROM (CM nightlies).
Certain cables force the screen to turn back on, which means I get negative charge because the screen burns more than the charger is capable of supplying. Other cables are fine. I'm still looking for the pattern, it's super annoying and causes me to have to turn my phone off completely at times so as not to lose my battery altogether. I'm still trying to solve this, any help would be appreciated.

Further info- it's not the cable, it's the converter at the end. I think it has to do with amperage of the charger- if I use the stock samsung one I'm good, it's putting out 1.0A. If I use others that are fewer amps (like 700 mA) it's unpredictable. I suspect a kernel thing, I might download different kernels to play with it.

Always use chargers that is 1 A - 2A the circuit controls most of the charging regulating amps and voltage
Yes, I agree about using good chargers, but my phone wasn't always this way. It used to charge with anything, but no longer.
I enabled fast charge on Imosyen's lean kernel. That might have made a difference, but I'm not positive yet.
RESOLVED (Kinda)
Hello!
My VZW i535 just started giving me issues. I should preface this by saying that it is rooted and I do have a CM11 nightly flashed (will try to get specific version when I can, which may be awhile). I've had this installed for probably over a month now without problems. I also understand that charging issues are very common but nothing I could find is the same as my issue.
I noticed my phone was overheating (as it has frequently since purchased) with about 30% battery today, so I plugged it in after doing a reboot and all seemed well. About 15 minutes later I hear it beeping, giving the signal the battery is below 15%. It was actually at 5%, and the bottom of the device was extremely hot, as well as the end of the Samsung cable included with it, so I unplugged it and found that the metal part of the cable was mostly black and there was a strong electrical burning smell.
I tried two other USB cables, both in the Samsung AC adapter, and in the USB ports of several devices. With any cable in the adapter, it would say "charging" but would not actually charge, but with the computer USB ports it wouldn't say or do anything at all.
The battery is at 2% now and the device is powered off so that I can quickly do something if need be, but I can't do much. I ordered some replacement batteries with a charger, due for arrival by Friday 1/3, since I assume that the damage to the USB interface is permanent.
Is it likely that this was caused by the software? Or is the charger faulty? Any advice, in general? The warranty has expired, but I do have insurance on it if for some reason it would be better to just get a new device. I can't restore it to stock until I get replacement batteries; is that what you recommend?
Thanks so much!
Sounds like a hardware i ssue. Look inside ur usb port on the device to make sure it did not get burn. Wen ur battery comes in put it on and try to charge it with new cable. If it doesn't charge then it will ur USB port. I know some 4.4 roms give wonky bat stats but it shouldn't burn out ur cable or usb port at least i think it shouldn't. If u believe is a software issues flash a different version of the rom a previous build or a whole different rom. But with 2% battery i don't think u would be able to. Good luck
After playing around with it a bit, the USB interface on my phone definitely appears to have taken damage from the heat. It only charges when powered off, must be completely still, and charges relatively slowly.
What I would recommend for people with a similar problem is to do as I have done and purchase extra batteries with an external battery charger like the set I got for around $17 on Amazon.
My only guess for what caused this is that something faulted in the cable or AC adapter and caused a severe overheat issue. If anyone has anything else to say about that, please let me know so I have a better idea of what happened. I will mark as resolved soon.
Hi, I am a novice in phone repairs though I have successfuly replaced the screen and charging ports on a samsung s6 and note 4.
I am requiring some expert advice on this problem, I was given an XZ from my friend with a cracked screen and charging problem, the charging port became temperamental and failing (at least I think it was that) and eventually wouldn't charge at all. The charging port was handled a bit harshly toward the end, for example the charging cable lifted up and down to try to get a charging response.
Anyway I ordered a screen/digitizer and charging port flex for it, and fitted them, following a guide. Before this, the phone had around 2% charge. After the repair, I switched it back on and conncted the charger, the screen was fine, however there was no response from the charger. The phone then ran flat and eventually ran flat enough to not be able to show the "low charge" symbol when the phone is off. Then after plugging and unplugging the cable (via USB in the pc) it would charge for what seemed a second then stop, the red charging notification light was lighting up. The same happened with a wall charger. I then stripped it back down and back together again. This time there was no response if I remember right, then I connected it to the wall charger and left it for 3 hours or so. I went back to it and it had charged up to 15%.
Now i'm at the point where the phone is working, it's on 90% now, but it charges very slowly, around 60-350 mA per hour on Ampere app. So a full charge is around 12+ hours. This is in the wall socket with a fast charger. Additionally, it takes 10 seconds for the phone to recognise the charger after is is plugged in and that is consistent each time I plug it in. The phone now isn't recognised by my PC via USB, and also won't charge that way also, it just doesn't do anything if I plug it in there. Other than that, the phone works and it holds its charge well.
Any ideas? Thank you.

pick up an original sony charging cable - no idea why it makes such a difference, but.........
Hi, thanks for the reply, I bought a sony charger but it's still the same, drawing about 50-300 milliamps from wall charger, not recognised by PC and takes 10 secs exactly for the phone to recognise it's being charged. It's just odd how it stopped charging before the "fix", now the new flex lets it charge slowly. Can a battery problem cause this? It still holds its charge well. Maybe this problem is recognisable by some phone repair experts around here? any ideas?
Thanks
Noticed the phone only draws charge from a 3amp charger, anything less isn't recognized. And the power drawn from a 3amp can be 30-1000ma but averages around 300 ma. Can anybody point me to a hardware forum maybe? I can't find any, i guess it need taking to a phone expert but it's gonna end up costing more than its worth with the stuff i have done already.
Aukey Quickcharge 3.0 is working fine. It is cheap too.
I have just purchased a aukey charger, but my XZ seems to be taking longer to charge than the UH20 charger that came with my XZ. Any suggestions guys?

Have you tried cleaning/replacing the charging port itself? As i see, you replaced only the flex cable.
There's probably extremely weak contact somewhere in the charging hardware i think, because you need 3.0 A charger to get any kind of charging response. Weaker current probably gets lost at that 'weak contact'.
Buying new chargers won't fix that if you ask me
I have exactly same problem with you
I am about to buy a new charger, yet I saw your post
At first I thought it was the cable. Then my cable work normal with other phone. So does my charger, it connect perfectly with other phone (xperia xz premium and xiaomi mi5)
It seems that our phoneis the only one who can'y charge normally.
I am quite depressed, also looking for solution. Mind if you share if you have succedeed? Thanks before

Try plug in and plug out. My phone sometimes charge a normaxl. But need a lot of effort
Solved
Use the the detect usb in the notification keys before connecting the charger,, this will solve the fast recharging issues
Did you solved problem? I have same issue. Changed battery, usb-flex, no luck
Hi,
I have bought an used XZ.
The owner sold me this phone because he need new battery. I have replaced the old one after a week of test. The old battery works only for 6/10h and drain totally during night even if the phone is turned off. The new one have the same problem. I try to solve with an other battery, and nothing same problem. 12h of standby, after is totally drained. The strange thing is that I have the same battery life even when the phone is turned off, but not only this. If the phone is in 0% he charge without problem. If we have any % of battery I need to connect and disconnect the charger from a wall plug many and many times before he start charging. Phone give me the charge icon for a second and after nothing until I disconnect the charger from a wall plug(I have tested different charger and cable). During my investigation I have found that this phone results every time a little bit hot even if turned off. I have try to disconnect all is possibile, but the heat is from CPU! Now I know that this is the cause of fast discharging in all conditions.
Now I need to know if anyone with a "normal" unit feel the phone heat while turned off and while is on wich temperature have. Mine is every time on 34/35° in standby. Let me know,
thanks
i have same problem . sony xperia xz and sony corp is very very Rubbish
Hi Guys,
I found a way to charge my Xperia XZ with the same loop problem.
Try to push upper volume pad together with power button and plug in the charging cable.
Hold the buttons for 3-5 minutes - you will feel vibrating signals like 3 short and 1 long.
so hold it and then simply leave it for a several minutes and it should start to accept the charge.
Alex Kutikhin
Yes - I had this problem...fixed it by holding in POWER UP and OFF button for 120 seconds.
Do not let go...you will feel vibration (1 short, 3 short). Keep holding for 120 seconds.
Device should now be powered down. Plug in charger cable and leave device off until 100% charged.
Still no fix for the original post’s problem? Having the exact issue with my xzs right now.

Old Thread, I know, but I encountered this issue today on an Sony X compact - F5321. Fixed it and want to report back for the next guy.
Same symptoms, noticed first a slow charge, phone was drawing low current and only responding to cable after 10 seconds of plugging in. I than checked for data connection, couldn’t get any. Opened it changed the USB port - BINGO - that fixed the issue, everything working nice.
TLTR: no Solution in Software, it’s a faulty USB-port. change it.
Have a nice day.
