Verizon HTC Touch Pro, Long Text Message Problem - General Questions and Answers

Hi everyone, I'm new here, and to the HTC Touch Pro, and I tried searching for a solution to this problem but I couldn't find it.
I have Verizon as I said, and I used to have the LG Voyager phone. I just upgraded to the HTC Touch Pro, and have noticed an annoying problem with my text messages.
With the Voyager, when I'd text over 160 characters, as long as I was sending to another Verizon customer, it would send one long text message, it wouldn't break it up or anything. Also I could receive messages over 160 characters from anyone who could send them to me.
With the HTC Touch Pro, if I send over 160, it breaks it into multiple messages, which is annoying to the person I text. Also and more importantly, I can't receive messages over 160 characters. I get the text cut off at the 160 point, followed by a message saying something to the effect of the previous message was edited to remove extra features, or something similar to that.
Other than the change to my data plan necessary for a PDA/Smart phone, I made no other changes to the account when I switched phones.
Does anyone know how to resolve this?

I've looked around a lot and have found 1 or 2 peoplethat have the same problem but nobody has any answers. Anyone have any ideas?

The thing is, that this isn't a problem... it's a default feature which.. unfortunately, I doubt can be changed.
Of course, i might be wrong..

Well thanks for clearing it up anyway. I didnt realize the voyager was actually doing somethingout of the norm to allow those messages to send. Thanks for the reply.

I have the same problem, and its very annoying.
There has to be a way to fix it, maybe flashing a new radio eh?
I'm not sure cause im new to the whole smartphone thing, i just barely got this tp a couple weeks ago.

that is what the phone company allows it's not something that can be changed.

SMS with more than one part - problem

I have a Mio A701 with WM5, the latest official ROM.
Whenever you write more than 160 characters (or 80 in Unicode, I've disabled the Unicode option anyway), that message will be sent in multiple sms.
The thing is, whenever I pass that limit (160 characters), aka need to send a multiple sms message, I just can't send it. I always get the error "Your text message cannot be sent".
So, is this a bug, an option that can be checked/unchecked? The logical thing would be windows sending it automatically, wouldn't it?
yeah it should auto split it into 2 and send them both it works for me
so it could be an issue with the rom you are using or the operator but then
people with other phones would get the same prob
I also thought that maybe was some kind of configuration I had to do because of the operator, because with other cellphones I could always send text messages like that without any problem. I've asked this in many places but never got a reply
No one really knows a solution to this? Or at least that it happened to someone here? I'm still stuck with splitting the messages manually I've changed my rom to WM6.1, but it's still the same! With generic cellphones this never happened, so I don't really know where the problem is coming from.
I've thought that maybe it's because the sending timeout is too short... Can that be changed in the registry?
I'm back again! And still with the problem
I've found out that with SMS Chat v1.05, I can send messages normally. With any more recent version, or any other program, the same problem occurs. Any idea on why?

Timezone of SMSes

Whenever I get a SMS from someone overseas, the time shown on the SMS is in their timezone, rather than mine. This is a bit confusing and also means that new SMSes from other countries are listed below other messages I've already read. Is there a way to get Windows Mobile to show all times in my time zone?
Bump...
Am also having this problem with my new HTC Touch Pro, except the times are totally off (the person that's messaging me is way behind my timezone, yet their messages appear two hours ahead of my timezone?)
Anyone know how to fix this? It's pretty annoying

[Q] Can't Send/Receive SMS text messages Droid PRO

I am very new to Android coming from Palm Pre and I purchased Droid Pro and activated it with Page Plus everything seems to work fine except I can't receive or can't send any plain text messages any kind. I haven't been able to receive or send any ever since I got this activated. I have tried everything I could.
I did activation multiple times and still no luck! I am very frustrated at this point and don't know what to do. I really love this phone and it works great including web data, calls but the stupid text messages will not work at all.
As soon as I send a text message I get an instant error message saying text message not sent and it does that for every message. This is just driving me insane since I text more than I talk.
I am getting close to my last resort is the reset this phone to factory which I don't know how to do. My brother uses Droid 2 Global and Fascinate on Page Plus Wireless with no problems. I tried calling multiple sources and no one is willing to help me.
Please help me if you can.
Anybody here know what I can do? I am so frustrated. I know I am missing text messages right now. I hate to go back to Palm... and this is the only Android phone from Verizon that I like so far. I love the keyboard but without being able to send or receive text messages this thing would be worthless for me. I text more than I talk.
This are just random guesses, but i thought i would try:
- wrong sms format (UTF-8?)
- wrong number/address for sms central in settings?
Fixed!!!
After days of fighting with it I got it figured out by process of elimination. For Page Plus Wireless under "Wireless & Network Settings" > "Mobile Networks" > "Network Mode" - needs to be set to "GLOBAL" and not "CDMA" like I thought and after this all my text messages are working properly.
This may be useful to someone later on.
Now if I can get rid of all the bloatware that this Droid Pro came with without rooting I would be very excited. I love this phone so far even though I am missing the true multi-tasking but I am sure I will get used to. I am already getting used to Android and it's only been a few days
Root it and change build.prop
change in system/build.prop
ro.telephony.gsm-routes-us-smsc = 0
This will solve sms problems

[Q] SMS Scrambling?

Hi everyone,
I need some help and I'm just hoping someone on here experienced this before and found a fix. When sending long SMS messages the recipient sometimes receives the message jumbled/garbled/mixed up with another old text that has been sent to them weeks or months ago. So it usually has the first half of the message I send them as the correct text, and then the second half is "pasted in randomly" from an old message.
Hope that makes sense. I have T-Mobile service and I'm using a t999 variant of the galaxy s3 rooted and running a stock ROM.
It still happens even after deleting all my messages. It happens on both the stock messaging app and gosms, so it's not an app specific issue. It also happened before I rooted my phone and after. This same thing even happened on my previous phone, the HTC G2. Also, sometimes the old messages were sent on a previous handset (the G2) & with a previous SIM (same number but got a new microSIM with the S3), so no idea where it had got the old message text from.
Any ideas why this might be happening and what I could do to fix it? My current fix is using gosms and having it split up the messages every 160 characters so it doesn't have the chance to happen. Otherwise if I'm not using gosms I have to stop on my own and start a new text when I run out of characters. It works but gets very annoying.
Thanks for reading.

Issues Receiving Texts

Hey guys. I'm using hangouts but this happens with any SMS program. My phone vibrates as if I received a text, but the text never appears. Ex: earlier my girlfriend texted me, the phone vibrated, but I never saw the text and it's not there.
I've tried updating PRL and Profile, switching sms programs, everything I can think of. Is anyone else having this problem.
Using Cataclysm btw.

Try deleting all sms apps, except ie. Hangouts. Make sure Hangouts is configured to receive textmessages. Send a message to your phone and check which app gives you a notification.
You can also try sms backup and restore app to see if there are any textmessages on your phone.
Tried all that but thanks! Just did the backup and there's no messages that aren't in my sms program. Frustrating
Has anyone else had this problem occur?

question: are most of the texts you look to receive, coming from apple iphones?
Apple's Revenge: iMessage Might Eat Your Texts If You Switch To Android
"When my best friend upgraded from an iPhone 4S to a Galaxy S4, I texted her hello. Unfortunately, she didn't get that text, nor any of the five I sent in the following three days. My iPhone didn't realize she was now an Android user and sent all my texts via iMessage. It wasn't until she called me about going to brunch that I realized she wasn't getting my text messages. What I thought was just a minor bug is actually a much larger problem. One that, apparently, Apple has no idea how to fix. Apple said the company is aware of the situation, but it's not sure how to solve it. One Apple support person said: 'This is a problem a lot of people are facing. The engineering team is working on it but is apparently clueless as to how to fix it. There are no reliable solutions right now — for some people the standard fixes work immediately; many others are in my boat.'"
No, no one this is happening with has an iPhone or ever did. All pure android accounts. And I sure as heck never had an iPhone
Try it with another SIM card in your phone and put your card in another phone, heck, just switch cards with your girlfriend's phone and see what happens
