Hi everyone... PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!
My new phone (Touch by HTC 6900) was powering off by itself and not turning on unless I removed the battery -- after I had tried to pair the phone with another phone using BlueTooth. So, I called Sprint who had me to hard reset the phone. But first beforing doing that, the Sprint representative had me to copy the PIM file to the SD card in the phone, then remove the card from the phone. After we hard reset the phone, I was told to insert the SD card back into the phone. But, the PIM file now reads "pim.vol.0b935b1b" instead of just "PIM". Now, I can not open this file (my contacts) on my phone nor my computer. I cut this file off the SD card and placed it on the desktop of my computer. When I try to open it there, I get a message saying that I'm attempting to open a ".MENC" file. So, I guess my file was encrypted. I DO NOT have this list of contacts anywhere else and despirately need to get them out of this file. Does anyone have any idea how I can retrieve my contacts list from this file - decrypt this file?
Thanks for any help that you can offer me....
& Happy Holidays!
Pierce
Hello and welcome to the forum!
Please be sure to read this!
I moved your thread in to a more appropriate topic.
Now to your question:
The file is not encrypted. I am not sure how it got the extension 0b935b1b but the name should be pim.vol.
The PC can not recognize this file because it is EDB format unique to Windows Mobile devices.
What you need to do to get your contacts back is from a PC (via ActiveSync) or by using Total Commander for PPC rename pim.vol which is in root (base "\") directory of your device to pim1.vol then copy the pim.vol you had on SD in it's place.
The soft reset the device. If the file was not damaged you should get your contacts back.
Hope this helps, good luck!

The file is encrypted - he did not write the full file name - extension of it is .menc.
@ Pierce: The encryption key is held in device's internal memory. After HR or flash it gets overwritten/erased. SD card encryption uses AES 128 bit encryption, brute force attack against this kind of encryption with normal PC would take decades. Your contacts are therefore most probably gone for good. More info about SD Card encryption with a link to M$ developers statement about it can be found here.
My apologies. I did not realize SD encryption actually renames the files.
Guess I need to do some reading.
Thanks for the link KarhU.

No need to apologize I am no expert. But I feel sorry for the guy....
Thank you guys.... so there's no third party software that I can get to undo this problem... to allow me open this file? My husband is giving me so much grief about losing all his business contacts -- that he didn't have saved anywhere else.
Thanks again... & Happy New Year!
I have something all out of whack here .... I have been flashing different ROMs ... gone all the way back to stock ee4 and moved forward. I can install rooted roms and I have root. I can open Titanium and freeze appz and such. My tethering app gets granted su permissions with su popping up asking to allow and so forth. But when I go into CWM recovery, none of the zips on my sd card show up!! I put the sd card into a reader on my desktop and verify the files are on the root of the sd card but I can't see them in recovery !!
Any help greatly appreciated. I'm willing to do whatever I have to do to the phone !!
Thanx In Advance for Any Help
Steve
EDIT: All of this because I couldn't get the browser to work on Danalo's All In One while on WIFI home network. Browser works on 3g but not WIFI ... network is good, wife's moto droid works fine on wifi ...
I'd like to go back to Imnuts' Infinity ROM but I can't see the zip !!!
I can put the zips in a folder on the sd card I created and I can see them in recovery. Just can't see them on the root level of the card ...
Have you tried different programs to actual zip the file, is it getting named file.zip.zip? Sometimes you just name a file depending on the program and it adds .zip to it so it would be file.zip.zip.
I see what you are saying didnt work for me hang on I have 2 ideas. Rename it as an update.zip file and make sure its not update.zip.zip or use root explorer to move the file into a folder that you see in root level such as data. Ok worked for me I moved the file with root explorer to android/data on the sdcard reboot into recovery and see it. Maybe Im not understanding what you are trying to do.

I've never had an issue before seeing zip files at the root level. I mistakenly mounted system during all of the flashing I've done. Had trouble with other versions of un-mounting system but in the end got that back to original. But I don't see the (properly named) zip files at the root level on the phone. Yes, I can see them when moved into another folder but the ones that are there at root level of the sd card are not seen.
I was under the impression that to install a ROM like Imnuts' Infinity, it had to be executed from the root level of sd card and not from within a folder?
My guess is you have so many folders in your sdcard that you can't see it. Try scrolling alllll the way down. I think you'll see it.
The same thing happened to me. I thought I was losing my mind

OOPS !!! You nailed it and don't I just feel like a dumb di** !
It was driving me nutz last night !! Reckon it's time to clean up the old sd card
That's one of the reasons why I put the CWM ZIP files into a folder where all of them reside. I called it "ROMs", you may name it differently than I do. Say "CWMStuff" so that it hopefully will stay near the top of the file list.
I actually have a folder already there 'charge_zips' .... appreciate the thought that put me onto it ... sometimes you do so much you miss the obvious, right?
hahahaha.....amazing, was driving me crazy as well!!! the zip was right at the bottom!
As I'm sure most of us have been, with all the ICS Roms being posted as of the last couple of days, I've been a Flashaholic trying all these different Roms and so on and so on. Well, my question is...
I feel my Internal SD Card is getting full of folders that are becoming obsolete/redundant, so does anyone know what are the "Bare Minimum Folders" required to run correctly. IOW, I want to delete everything but the "True System Folders". I'm hoping that by getting rid of everything, it'll free up space, and speed the system up as a whole because it's not having to search a huge Index for where it's trying to pull info from to operate.
I personally feel like I can delete everything from there, with the obvious exceptions being the Files included in the Rom.. but once again, that's just my "Noob-ness".. lol..
As always any help would be greatly appreciated, and I would also like to thank anyone for their assistance in this matter in advance.
What I usually do to clean up is to go to storage in settings on the phone, and format usb storage. This keeps only the necessary stuff for system and gets rid of all of the extra stuff. I keep all of my files like music, etc on the ext. sd card, so it doesn't get wiped.

So after doing this do you have to go into recovery and re-flash the Rom? or will it automatically create the folders as you open the Apps?

Just to clarify, I'm talking about doing this in the rom and not in recovery. You won't have to reflash the rom, and apps will create what they need as you run them.

Oh, okay, I was originally talking about as your phone is running, go into Settings/Storage, and Format from there, but I didn't see that option. Lol..
So overall, I can delete anything I want to on the larger 13.03Gb and the smaller 1.85Gb internal sd card I can not delete anything from there because it's reserved for Apps and System Files/Folders.

Pretty much, but there are a few files that stay if you go the settings/storage/format route, so I do that to get rid of junk in the 13.03 GB partition. But you are right, you mainly don't want to delete stuff on the smaller internal partition, unless you know what you are deleting.

Hello,
I have installed a lot of applications on my device and linked them to my sdcard with link2sd.
Those applications have been installed on a specific account (guest account) on my device.
I have changed my sdcard, create a new partition ext2 on it, copy and paste all the files, directories,... of the old partition to the new one, and tried to relink the new card with link2sd.
But -> "no file to link" !! :crying:
And I don't have anymore my old sdcard.
Means, today, I have no more application listed on my screen, no more application listed in the settings, no more application listed in "My applications" of the Google Play Store, but the memory of my device is completly full of specific files of the applications which were previoulsy linked to the previous sdcard.
In other word, it is the mess and I really need to recover my applications with the datas.
Does someone know how to fix this??? (even manually)
Thank you

Did you try and re-create the mount scripts?
Are the paths exactly the same?
Try installing an app and then linking it with Link2SD. Then check the path of the linked data. Make sure it matches with your backups.
I'd personally go for clean installs when changing SD card, but I think you're brave for trying. Good luck.

Yes tried the re-create mount script without success.
One information: The old partition was ext3 and this time I created an ext2. Is it important?
Where can I check the path of the linked data exactly?? Which file?
Thank you for your help.

Just so I have this right...
You backed up all the data and file structure from your ext3 partition, re-formatted it to ext2, then copied all the data and file structure back on.
Have a look in root explorer. What are the folder names of your two SDcard partitions under /root ?
Mine looks like this:
/root/sd-ext
/root/sdcard
/root/storage/sdcard0
I used a script from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1971689 so mine will probably be different to yours.
If your linked app files are in the same place as before, (check this by installing and linking a new app and then finding it's linked data in root explorer) and you get an error/ no result when re-creating mount scripts in Link2SD, then i'm at a loss.
There are a lot more knowledgeable people than me on these forums, so hopefully one of those people will see your post and offer you a solution. Otherwise, it's time to re-install all your apps I suppose.

Effectively, I don't know whether I got the exactly same partition name before and after (before ext3 and after etx2).
I have nothing under /root
Actually it is quite strange. I can see my sdcard (only the FAT partitiion) under:
/sdcard2
or
/storage/sdcard1
this is pointing to my external sdcard. I can see the same files/directories in there.
I don't see the second ext2 partition with RootExplorer.
I can see it only with ESExplorer on the lateral bar. It is named sdext2.
I guess that the old partition ext3 was certainly not named the same.
I've just linked new file on the new partition. It is working correctly.
in the data/app folder I see the icon of the new linked app with the correct icon image (it is a game) and a small arrow in the top left correct (shortcut).
in the same folder, I see all the other icons of the lost linked applications with an android image and also the small arrow in the top left corner. But obviously when I tap on it, it says "analysis error,...". I guess that the shorcut points to nowhere because it is not linked anymore.
But I don't where to check where the shortcut is pointing to !! and how to change.
It should be simple to find back the old partition name and rename the new one with same name...
thank you for your help.

You could try running the script that I mentioned. It won't do any harm. It may be, like you say, that the partition is named differently, so the paths don't quite match up. Duplicating the SD partition path with the script that I linked to, might (and it's a long-shot) let Link2SD see the partition on the path previously set. Let us know if you figure it out.
What was the reason you changed the partition format type anyway?

I'll give it a try asap.
Concerning the reasons... bad reasons unfortunately. The links sometimes were not working. I had to relink regularly the files (hopefully, it is automatic, but not very convenient). Then I though that it may be better in ext2, and you know what happened
I will keep you informed if your advice works.
Thank you very much

Unfortunately, not possible for me. I don't have a custom ROM and therefore don't have /system/etc/init.d in my device.
I will try to reformat bacl my 2nd partition in ext3 and see if I will be able to relink.
I have reformated my partition in ext3.
But after rebooting my device, the mounted name is still sdext2.
Does someone know how to change a mounted partition name without a custom ROM?
Thank you
The script is named init-recovery.sh in /etc.
Finaly, I reinstalled all the apps and copy/paste all the user files manually then relinked to the new partition with link2sd.
Everything is working now.
Thank you anyway for your help
I too am facing similar problem
but i had been using link2sd before and before doing the process i didnt not unlink back to sd card the applications
so now all the files are in miscellaneous folder
is there any way to re link these
i use stock rom
Hi guys
I have a Samsung S3 16GB with lost pictures on the internal memcard.
I followed this guide successfully: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...covery-yes-t1994705/post34185439#post34185439
I created mmcblk0.raw containing 14.6GB of data.
But after Recuva recovered the mounted drive in Windows all i see are alot of zipfiles and other weird files. Ex: ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ².H9¶ that file is almost 4gb large, ss}}}xxx.bbb is 3.7gb large.
See my attachment printscreen over the recovered files
I wanna know, where are my pictures? Shouldnt i see the file and folder structure of Android here or something? and then just find the DCIM folder or something like that. Im very confused at this moment and stuck. I dont know what todo next. Those pictures are of very big value for me and i really need them to be there somewhere. (The phone wasnt used after the files where deleted in restore to manufacture, so no dataloss)
I hope someone can help me and point me in right directions.
Best Regards
Henrik
