I feel like a newb asking this question, but the Tilt doesn't have Internet Sharing like the roms for the 8525. The Wireless Modem utility doesn't work worth a chit. I've search for an hour to find a cab for installing Internet Sharing but I can't find it. Surely some of the masters here has come up with one.
Or could I just grab the exe file off my 8525 and run it with any "installing"?

SWEET! Thanks!!
Advantage? So far it is the best option for tethering my laptop. PDANet worked like a charm, but with Internet Sharing it's not need anymore.
I was trying to get the Tilt to work like a modem for a couple hours last night and it would disconnect every time it got to "Registering computer on network". I saw that Internet Connection Sharing (post 30) and gave it a go. Tethered like a charm, 768kbit down ~125ms latency.
The file \Windows\Internet Sharing.lnk contains this text:
41#:MSINTERNET_SHARING?:intshruiapp
And I just copied it to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and can run it from there or the shortcut I created in the HTC Home plugin. You don't have to do anything on the PC to use it either, except have ActiveSync (I think it requires even less because activesync automatically disconnects when this is in use).
I cant get ICS to work on the Tilt. I get "cannot connect for unknown reason" error in ICS window. Any ideas?
Is your "Network Connection" set to MEdia Net? I have two things on my list, that and "AT&T ISP GPRS". If I try that one, it tries to connect a bunch of times then dies with the unknown reason thing.
It gave me that same message if I end-tasked ActiveSync on the PC, so I'd say make sure they both say connected before trying to connect the internet sharing.
Yes, its set to Medianet. Do I need to be connected to my laptop for this to work? I didnt think so.
swweeet i got it working thanks everyone

It won't work if it isn't connected to the laptop. that is what it is for!
help with tethering
Hello everyone I did some of the applications last night on trying to setup my tether to my tilt but its not connecting. I could not find internet sharing to change those setting on download needed cab for it. My phone is set media net and have the correct ip and subnet gateway so what am I missing??
It seems AT&T was pretty successful in killing Tilt Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) with the introduction of 6.1. It was seamless until the upgrade, now it is not. Lotsa complicated workarounds been posted here for the past year and a half. I wish someone who is doing it successfully would post a set of step by step instructions. We novices keep sorting through all these posts on the subject and if there is light at the end of the tunnel, it needs a new bulb!! With data plans getting more and more lucrative for the carriers, tethering is getting more and more important, anyone got a simple answer?
Hi there
I have a problem with my new HTC Trophy.
It works fine with my Wireless router, It connects fast when I'm in home, and I can surf and get emails and all the stuff.
But then I tried to use zune for configure the wireless sync and problems came.
Zune detecs fine my SSID (withc is not hidden and doesn¡t have MAC adress filter active). Then I click on "Set up wireless sync" button and on the next screen, on the "Confirm Network" one, this is what happens when I click "next":
"Can't detect your phone"
An error has ocurred.
Zune was unable to connect to the wireless network access point.
Error code: C00D07C9."
I really don't understand what is going there. because My zune works pretty fine downloading apps and sync the phone.
Help Anyone?
Thanks in advanced!
I had the same problem with my Omnia7. I found out that you need to disable windows firewall or anyother antivirus firewall when doing the first sync.
Also, connect the phone to the computer and leave it idle for 10-15 mins before you setup wireless sync.
Oh man thanks very much for your help.
Just as soon I turned Off my windows Firewall the sync was completed without any kind of error.
Cheers!
I'm glad i could help.
Cheers

so, after the first sync you can turn your firewalls back on though, correct?
yes, I'd also add an exception for zune.exe to the firewall too

This worked for me also.. Great tip..
Worked for me as well. Thanks a lot
Nice one, I just spent 10 min trying to connect to an AP i forgot that i activated the access control months ago
*then it clicked*
I have same problem with Omnia 7. My laptop running Windows 7 64 bit is connected to same wireless network as my phone. Connection on both systems works without any problem. But when I try to setup wireless sync I have same problem like described here. I disabled Windows Firewall and also real time protection in Microsoft Security Essentials. I do not use any other security software. Any other solution?
same here
I'm also having issues getting wireless sync setup So far I've tried;
Disabling Windows Firewall
Connecting to network via cable
Removing wireless connection in phone and rebooting
Disabling AV
I'm at a loss as to what I else I can try. Wireless on the phone works, wireless on the laptop works, just setting up wireless sync doesn't
anything else to add
I have tried EVERYTHING to get this working. I have disabled everything that might be blocking the ports, I have reinstalled software, you name it.
Nothing.
The strange thing is, the phone worked and synced fine on Windows XP, then I upgraded (moved sideways?) to Vista and now I'm screwed. This is s**t Microsoft.
They can't tell me anything
MAke sure you are signed into the Zune software. i think this has to be done to let zune know that you are connected to the network. I think it is just a wierd bug thats never been caught. for some reason my auto sign in doesn't work. But i couldnt get it to work so i closed zune, then re-opened it signed in (top right corner of zune) then wen to settings and it worked.
I went into settings and click "Forget this phone" so that it would create a new profile. Still didn't work. Then I read on MS support Article ID: 952304 (goo.gl/6nsSm) that it may not work when connected to a public network.
D'Oh, I was connected to my VPN for work so it couldn't find my wireless access point. I disconnected/logged off my VPN, pressed Retry Wireless Sync and it worked like a charm. Then logged into my VPN again. Presto.
Hope this helps someone...
My Samsung Focus has never worked with wireless sync. I got it the day Windows Phone launched in the US and I've been through several hard resets over the past year and multiple reinstalls of Zune.
It sets up fine and then starts to sync and sometimes it will get through a song or two but it will eventually just stall during a transfer and there's no errors of any type. I can leave it there for hours and it won't progress any. I have no firewalls running or connected VPN's.
I've given up trying to get it to work. Very annoying.
I think I found the answer: According to [1] Zune is not compatible with routers using WPA/WPA2 mixed mode. Setting it to ONE of the two should make it work...

hi guys,
so i think i have a solution but my modem ist airties it can be change with other models. so i have checked the link that hades has shared in german . yes you need to choose one of thee password code and then you go to ip adress of your modem default gateaway i mean, then then there should be isolation users something you need to untick that then save it . thats what i did and it worked.
i hope it works for you too
cheers
If this problem persists even after all the solutions provided, it is most likely that Zune does not currently properly support your Wireless Adapter associated with the computer.
I have this similar issue, I can sync fine on all computers but my desktop refuses to do so. I have even tried reinstalling everything.
Zune Sync USED to work for me... it now no longer works. The only change is that I've changed carrier ROMs since my phone's original carrier refused to update to 7440 and Internet Sharing. On my new ROM w/7440 I can't get it to work like it had... this sucks b/c I do miss it. Sigh WP7 was suppose to not require ROM flashing and hacking.
EDIT: Got it past the Set Up Wireless Sync prompts by going to "General Settings" on Zune and checking the Always start software when device is connected option box.
EDIT #2:Turns out, that did not get my LG Optimus 7 syncing, as now the PC would recognize the phone over wifi, but would fail to install proper drivers. I next had to uninstall Zune using this MS FixIt tool and then I reinstalled Zune as the tool prompts you. You don't lose any information during this process! And now my wifi sync works perfectly again. FWIW I think all this may have started when I installed specific LG drivers to be able to change LG ROMs.
I am wanting to root my 1st generation droid version 2.2.1 so I can use wireless tether. I have searched all over the web looking for a way to be able to do this. I have tried several methods all have not worked. I tried z4root. It installed on my phone but when went to root it (temp or permanently) the app just closed, I tried rebooting phone and doing this several times, but still didnt work.
Super One Click was another one I tried.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
I downloaded this from the web to pc and then rooted phone through pc. It says phone was rooted, and it installs super user. I can enable wireless tether and connect my laptop to it, but it says limited connectivity and therefore cant access any web pages.
I am new to this whole rooting thing, so please could someone help me out.

I have rooted my mothers droid running FRG83D (2.2.1) with Super One Click without any problems. It sounds to me that the problem you are having is with your laptop network settings. I would say that your laptop network card is setup for a static ip and it needs changed to take an ip address from the phone.
If you are using windows vista or 7, open the start menu and type ncpa.cpl into the search box. Right-click on "wireless network connection" and go to "properties." Click on "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and then press "properties." If the boxes "Use the following IP address:" and "Use the following DNS server addresses:" are checked then you are setup for static ip, if they are grayed out you are setup for dynamic ip. If the they are grayed out you can stop reading this post because the rest won't help you.
If you are setup for static ip, you need to write down your IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS server information for future reference. To fix the problem with tethering you need to click the box "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically."
After you clicked on "Obtain an IP address automatically," a new tab next to "General" at the top of the screen appeared "Alternate Configuration." This is where you will have two options to choose from. When you click on the new tab you can then click the box for "User configured" and input the static ip information that you write down earlier. This is a great way to be able to connect to your static network and dynamic networks without having to do this every time, but the really big downside is that it will take 5 or more minutes every time to connect to you static network. It is up to you on what will work best for you, if you cant stand waiting 5 or more minutes each and every time you need to connect to your static network then just leave the "automatic private IP address" box checked.
I hope that this was what is causing you problems and you can now fix it. If it is the problem but you are still having trouble with it, send me a Private Message and I will help you.
I have the same phone and halfway through the loading to root it just quits have you had any solutions i would love to make my first generation droid with 2.21 a hot spot. please help if you can
First Generation Droid
I have the excact same problem halway through loading the program just shuts off! Have you got any help I would love to turn my droid into a hot spot!!!!!
Good afternoon.
On (or possibly before) January 19th, 2011, Boost Mobile started blocking outbound port 80 for its "Pay as You Go" customers. This has proven to be an even larger inconvenience than I originally expected, as much of what I use my Diamond's EvDo networking for is port 80 (YouTube and most internet websites, just to name a few). I noticed that Windows Mobile has the ability to connect through a Proxy or a PPTP VPN. I have (unsuccessfully) tried to connect to a VPN server I had setup at home, and I was wondering if there were any other solutions. I noticed that in the EvDo connection's properties box, there's a spot where you can add a proxy. I was thinking of setting up a SOCKS proxy on our home computer, password protecting it (don't want random people using my connection or intercepting my passwords), then portforwarding it all through our home router.
What I was wondering was if anyone thinks I'm on the right track with a VPN or SOCKS proxy or similar, and if so, I could use some hints on getting that all set up. This is a larger hurdle for me than some people because I've never hosted a proxy/VPN/SOCKS on my computer or connected to one on Windows Mobile.
Thanks a ton in advance.

UPDATE Reply
Update post:
I've given the VPN option a try. I went to my Windows computer and created a VPN server and port forwarded it with my router. Then I tried the connection at an alternate location with another Windows computer to make sure I set up and port forwarded correctly. Everything worked, so I went and added the connection to my Diamond. I can get it connect (and after adding "http://*.*" and "https://*.*" to the exceptions in the "advanced" tab under the connections icon in the settings screen) and not kick the connection when I try and load a webpage, but I'm not able to actually load a page. It just loads and loads and loads, then times out.
Any ideas? Should I try to host a secure proxy of some kind, or stick with the VPN?

UPDATE! I finally got this to work but only TETHERED through my laptop, which is not huge surprise or success. At least now I know the port is open and there is no reason it should not work. If anyone knows why, post here - I'm speaking for a lot of people.
Thanks.

I have a rooted Skyrocket. About a year ago I used a QuickSSHd to ssh into my phone from my local wifi network. I haven't used the application in a while and somewhere in that time ATT did some sort of software update that made the windows less Apple-like but not much else. That may or may not have something to do with the fact that if I try to ssh in now the request just times out. I can get a shell through the usb cable using adb (or a terminal program), confirm that I still have root, and see the sshd process with ps | grep dropbear. I also know that something is trying to connect because if I don't launch the sshd and try to ssh in I just get "connection refused" and nmap -p 22 doesn't show anything open but after sshd is running the port shows as "22/tcp filtered SSH" but the ssh request just sits there until it times out. I've tried running dropbear manually through adb, an updated QuickSSHd, and another very nice looking Android application called "DropBear SSH Server" with the same results. I've also tried changing ports. I even make an /etc/shells file because that showed up on some really old how-to document.
When trying to ssh to the Skyrocket from a laptop Wireshark shows the requests going out repeatedly but no replies from the Skyrocket. Shark running on the Skyrocket shows nothing (although other wifi traffic does show up). As a diagnostic I tried sshing from the Skyrocket to my laptop over wifi and wireshark on the laptop shows traffic both ways but they never close the deal. It's as if something is intercepting any incoming ssh traffic on the Skyrocket.
For what it's worth I can ssh from the skyrocket to localhost or its own wifi IP address in an adb shell. It seems like some sort of firewall issue. Any ideas? Do I need a new busybox (whatever that is)? I really don't want to flash any major OS modifications, I just want to be able to ssh in and then start on the real project (trying to talk to an rtl-sdr dongle...)
Thanks!
Dave
c'mon guys, 169 reads and no ideas? Is this something weird with just my phone or are they all this way and everyone's given up?
