Hi all,
Sorry if this seems a dull question but ........
I have an XDA1 and wonder whether I can use it on the 3G network? If not, how about the XDAII?
My present phone is a Motorola A920 using the 3G network but I'd got used to my XDA and prefer it!
My XDA1 has been unlocked.
Many thanks
John
Have you found out any news about using the 3G network on the XDA or XDA II? I have an XDA II and would find it intresting if there was software update or somthing like that
The XDA1 and XDA2 does not work on 3G networks (UMTS) as the frequency is different and the transceiver in the 1 & 2 does not support this.
There is though a new XDA3 on the market which supports 3G, but I dont know where it is available.
I think you will find that a 3G XDA has not been released as yet. for information on XDA III (name may cause confusion in O2 camp, re 2nd article) see:

http://techdigestuk.typepad.com/tech_digest/2004/07/xda3_or_is_that.html
my xda works on a 3 sim, but takes about a minute to find network. it roams to o2. can't sms.
when ever 3g phones cant reach a utms signal it just use gsm of cause only for talk
so there should be no problems using a 3g sim since it will just work as a normal gsm sim in a non utms phone
but i'm prettty sure that they dont offer grps roaming
software can never make a xda1-3 or any other non utms phone a utms phone just like an old 56K modem cant be software upgraded to a cabel modem
I would love to have 3G Network. Their data connection is as fast as 144kbps DSL speed. That's much faster than GSM network.
I'm playing in the field of 32kbps with GSM network. Blah, you call that the speed of DSL as they say? Right.
I have an XDA 1 which works just fine with my 3 sim BUT I cannot send SMS only receive, don't know why and haven't found anyone on this forum who can explain why.
SIM Manager doesnt work either, just says SIM is busy. Try again in 5 seconds but I could wait a month of Sundays and the SIM is still busy.
messing around with my xda1 last night, which has an o2 and a 3 sim in it. had the 3 sim selected, made a new work connection called Three, apn: three.co.uk, username: netservices. pressed connect AND IT DID!! BUT tried to access web and then wap, NO JOY. all other settings are for o2 payandgo online. when i had 3 sim in 3 phone i DIDN'T have to be in a 3g area to access all 3 services. any ideas if i can get any transfer going through xda? plus my new 3sim has arrived, NOT putting that in just yet!!!
3g or UTMS is not supported in many places and when you get out of their range their just do gsm and grps
there should not be a problem getting the services of 3g to work but you dont get the speed because you are not getting utms signal just be having sim it's on a different set of frequencies
there are CF and maybe SD cards out there which act as utms modems which can give a pda a nice internet speed boost though
yeah i know i won't get any extra speed, but it did connect to GPRS via the 3 sim, yes i know it was roaming to o2, the thing is i still want to see what i can get it to do. if i could get it to view FULL internet even at GPRS speeds, for NO charge then that would be good. my 3 package is 3togo, no monthly fee, no free mins, you only pay for what you use,you get a bill later.
You weren't technically roaming with o2.
Three uses o2 as a carrier network for 2.5G communications.
I've tried a Three SIM in my XDA II with similar results to you. However, i've noticed that in the latest XDA II o2 ROM upgrade, they install video calling applications.
I'll keep you posted - I work for Three so I know the details

Also, it could be a matter of smsc centre being incorrectly configured when the 3 sim is placed in the XDA device

Guys,
Don't keep your 3 usims in 2G handsets for very long. If 3 notice you are constantly roaming on o2 they *will* block the SIM.
Did anyone end up find out if you can actually sms with a Three sim in it ?

Nah. There's a video mms application and you can also download or stream short video clips but these are all gprs services. Video calling is a 3g only service and no xda device has the hardware/software for that yet.

I have bought locked treo750 cingular, my question is if i managed to unlock it via any unlocking services described here in the forum, will it work normally on any other network other than cingular without any problems or there will be some restrictions especially regarding GPRS and 3G??
And if I faced problems with cingular after unlocking, is it possible to upgrade treo Vodafone ROM?
Thank you very much for your help.
18 views without reply, am I asking a selly question? or no one of the forum has any answer for my question!!.
no offense, but the answers to all of your questions are here and out there on Google, etc. The 750 is a GSM phone, and once unlocked, will work with other GSM SIM cards/service providers. GPRS and 3G availability will depend on the service provider; most all provide GPRS a few provide 3G service. you may have to configure your phone work with other provider's internet service
I have an unlocked 750V that I use with T-Mobile and Cingular (US providers). T-Mobile doesn't have 3G service, so it uses the GPRS/EDGE connection. Phone features work without issue. Cingular has 3G and the phone works well there, too. hope this helps.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. You are right there is a lot of speakings about that here and on google, but what made me worry is the words of a guy working in cingular or something like that who told that cingular has customized the OS to be strictly perfect with their service in US, and so on, it may be not working well in my country, hence i searched the XDA-dev and treocentral, most of guys who unlocked their treo is suing t-mobile and they are in US, while in europe they have the 750v, so they don't need to unlock the cingular version, except, one who unlocked cingular one and used his orange SIM and claimed that he was unabale to cutomize the GPRS sittings to connect with orange SIM.
I hope that you have got my idea, and I am still worried. Now, my specific question to u as having an unlocked cingular tro750, is the connections paramaters in Start--> settings ---> connections --> connections the same as other PDAs, so, theorotically i can customize it to work with my vodavone SIM. Thank you very much for your help.
you should be able to configure/customize your GPRS settings without an issue...i don't know about the other guy...

Ok, thank you very much, i am waiting my device, and we will see.
Hi!
Sorry if this is old news...
I've just been speaking with Tesco Mobile (a UK operator providing Pay As You Go service on the back of the O2 network) and apparently you CAN get UMTS / 3G service from them, however it isn't advertised anywhere, you have to ask for a 3G SIM.
So I've asked.

Hey Guys,
Ive upgraded to the latest Vodafone WM6 ROM and was expecting to be able to get HSDPA connections, I live in Basingstoke and should (according to Vodas coverage map) be able to get HSDPA. I have also tried in Reading Newbury and Central London.
The max speed I can actually get is around 200kbits (average is about 140kbits) and I never get an "H" symbol just the usual "3g" one. Speeds were tested on the dsl reports mobile speed test with 100k download. http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1
Can anyone on the Vodafone UK network get an HSDPA connection? I have complained to Vodafone but they are useless.
I also found out that Vodafones network is currently being upgraded to support HSDPA data and Voice simultaneously.
I have a feeling HSDPA is currently still off on the UK Vodafone flavor of the ROM but it would be nice to have this clarified.
All opinions welcome......... Thanks in Advance.
Hi.. Can't help you with Vodafone but I'm on Orange with a wm6 750v and only get the 3g icon but it does use the orange HSDPA network when i connect to the internet. Much quicker than when I was on wm5 and could only get UTMS, think you get the 3g icon with wm6 whatever network it uses but I could be wrong. There was talk that Orange and Voda were going to mix their 3g networks for better coverage, maybe it has something to do with that?
Hi, I'm on Vodafone UK (contract). I was hoping for WM6 to have HSDPA natively on this ROM, but I too only ever saw the 3G symbol. Out of frustration I re applied the HSDPA hack for WM5.
Sure enough - HSDPA is present. It shows 3G, then when data is actively moving - it changes to a H.
I've done speed tests and can get over 700k download speeds.
I live in the Durham area with 100% HSDPA coverage.
After applying the hack, or after a reset - reset it again - for some reason it takes 2 soft resets for it to "take".
But you need to apply the old hack.
Hope that helps you!
Ive upgraded to wm6 on 750v but still needed to apply this to get 700+kbit/sec
http://www.gadgetech.info/treo/hacks/hsdpa/
'H' all the way now
Be warned - rumour has it that using HSPDA on 750v causes voicecalls issues (ie you wont get any if push email occurs) in certain parts of UK on voda network.
Cheers for the input guys,
Im a little bit upset that HSDPA has not been included in the UK 750V ROM-- I know why because Vodafones network isnt upgraded yet--- but palm could of at least told us this was the case!!
Sooo are we expecting another ROM update when Vodafones network is ready?
Would be nice to get some clarification!.
HSDPA is there. I installed the Vodafone ROM (though I did remove the extended ROM) on my generic 750. Not to rub salt in the wound, but I am on 3 and dslreports is showing me connected at 900-1015kb/s.
I haven't experienced the issue of having a HSDPA push connection and have voice quality issues. I am on the phone most of the day with email constantly coming through.
Works for me
Ok so I have the Vodafone WM6 legit Rom and the HSDPA patch/hack installed and it works fine. When I make or recieve a call on the phone whilst browsing it drops the connection down to 3G as shown by the symbol (changes from H to 3G) then when the call is ended it changes back! Battery drain is exactly the same as using 3G but I am getting speeds on Vodafone in Sheffield of up to 1mbs
If I find I have any problems I will let you all know!
My 750v is unlocked and I'm using it on 3 in the UK with the WM6 upgrade. Get great HSDPA speeds now. No need to get the hack (which never worked for me on WM5 anyway).
I thought it worked!
Ok so I was sending a large email the other day (3mbs attachment) and I tried to make a call while it was sending the mail over the HSDPA. The phone tried to dial and then hung up. I tried to call the number again and got the same thing! I stopped the email sending and even though it was not transmitting any data I still could not make a call! I disconnected the data connection and making a call was fine, it worked 1st time!
I have since uninstalled the hack at it works fine now over 3G speeds!
What a shame, I want HSDPA back
I'm in central London (W10 and SW1) in areas listed on Vodafone's site as being in HSDPA coverage. Although I have WM6 installed I have never seen 'H'. I'm wary of the hack after comments above describing problems.
Vodafone have no answer for my issue.
Has anyone on a WM6 hack-less 750v picked up HSDPA in London/UK yet?

HI,
I just got a samsung I780 and flashed the i780MSHC3 rom, today i got a att pda plan. However, I can't use i780 to connect att's 3g network, always in gsm/gprs....... (using in LA, 3G definitely covered)
Is there anybody having the same problem, or could somebody give me some advice (already called att, but not worked out)
also,
Gyngabread Man could you help me to change my plan to the $30 PDA connect with isp support?
Thank you
Please help...
my date plan is PDA PERSONAL CV TE
I screwed up...
please help
how to make i780 tri-band 3g????
Anybody helps????
whether there is a way make i780 works on att's 3g?
Thanks....................
What phone rom are you using ?
If is an old one, try with the italian one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=384619&highlight=i780+radio
my phone radio rom is:
XIHA7 the Italy rom...
I just wonder whether i780 is capitiable for att's 3g network, if now whether there is a "solution"?
is there anybody else using i780 in U.S. on ATT 3g network?
Thanks.....
The phone does not have 850/1900, only 2100. How do you plan on using AT&T's 3G network without 1900?
Changing the ROM will not give your phone the ability to now utilize AT&T's 3G network.
The weird thing is it won't even connect edge..........
but when insert t-mobile(us)'s card... it at least connected to edge....
and when i "roaming", i can connect to edge network, but with att, without roam, can only connect to gprs........
dats so sucks...
Just whether why some rom will make the i780 has tri-band 3g function

Sorry to revive an old thread...I can't connect to AT&T's 3G either (I live in Chicago). The band selection on my phone, though, is
1)900/1800
2)1900
3)WCDMA (phone doesn't connect to anything with this selected)
4)Automatic
PDA ROM is DXHE1
Phone ROM is PUHE1
Am I an idiot for buying this phone (I would need 850 instead of 900 on this bad boy?) or am I just not using the right settings?
same problems here...
Unless I'm mistaken it's a hardware issue, no amount of ram flashing will get past the the fact that your phone will not broadcast on the right band...
