Hello:
I have SPB time and recently the alarms seem to have stopped working.
They work if I place a test alarm in the afternoon for example, but the ones in the morning to wake me up for work never go off.
I have tried, wakeupteak, and scarybears check notify, to no avail, I have re-installed SPB time and the alarms. I have rebuilt my unit from the ground up. Still the same problem!!
SPB time are out of ideas themselves.
Any ideas on what the problem may be, or can someone suggest an alternative clock/alarm program for the PPC for me to try.
Thanks.
Aame problem here. AlarmX from MTUX seems to work but it's not as pretty.
There are posts on the forum somewhere telling why this is. It's something like the device goes in to sleep mode (excuse the pun). The built in alarm works Ok (for me) and so does the alarm in Stop Time.
I've had problems with alarms for almost two years - I've found only two solutions:
Try SuperAlert from WhittakerMoore - it cured my alarm problems except when I had stuff which clashed with it, however it is commercial.
A more recent and radical approach which has also worked for me is as follows (you will need software which can modify the Notifications database, such as Anton Tomov's Pocket Mechanic).
The root of the problem is the CALNOT process which runs at midnight - it performs housekeeping and if it doesn't complete correctly, it fails to trigger the first alarm of the day (and therefore any subsequent ones until you turn the device on).
Use your product of choice to simply delete the midnight notification entry which runs CALNOT.exe - this means that the housekeeping isn't done every night but the alarms will be reliable, since it now cannot fail to complete(!). To make sure the cleanup does occur now and again, put a shortcut to CALNOT.exe in the startup folder. Yes, it makes startup after a soft reset a little slower but it's worth it I feel for reliable alarms. Alternatively you could run CALNOT manually. You must remember to remove the CALNOT notification after each time it runs (including timezone changes) as it reinstates its midnight entry each time.
Although I have over 350 entries in my calendar, I haven't noticed any degradation without the regular housekeeping but I have noticed the alarms working - it now wakes me every morning except when I forget to delete the damned entry after a soft reset.
Let me know how you get on.
Note: If anyone out there wants to knock together a tiny app. which runs CALNOT then removes the notification, I for one would be very grateful - I haven't had the time to do any WM coding yet.
I almost missed a plane because the alarm didn't ring so it's important to fix it. However:
simply delete the midnight notification entry which runs CALNOT.exe

how to find this program?
I searched at "calnot.exe" in the registry: nopes, searched in windows/startup: nopes. So how to find the program that calls calnot.exe to delete it? Or just delete the file calnot.exe?
Please help

Do NOT delete the program calnot.exe! Re-read what I wrote, in particular the need for software to edit the notifications database - THAT is where the entry is which needs to be deleted.
Do not quickly skim across the post details, getting half the picture then blindly blundering around in your device - that is the fast way to a hard reset!
Thanks for the quick reply. I didn't read it well, indeed, sorry.
So I deleted calnot from the notication queue and now it has to be fixed, apart from running calnot now and then? Do you (after a run) have to delete calnot again from the queue?
No worries, I just didn't want to be the cause of a hard reset.
Generally running calnot doesn't seem to restore the notification entry, there is a special system notification entry (which I don't recommend you delete) which restores it at each soft reset.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.
@mtbsoft. Thanks for you're warning. But now I have some troubble with calnot.exe : can't copy/shortcut it to startmenu as you mentioned, can't even rename the read only status and can't run it (i.e. after double clicking I don't see it in the notification database appear). Any sugestions?
Tapping on it will run it - it doesn't have a user interface so won't be visible. I think you've misunderstood about the notification - running calnot.exe manually WON'T put the notification back, that only occurs when you soft-reset.
I assume you are using the in-built File Explorer, you should be able to navigate to calnot.exe then tap and hold to select Copy. Now go to the \windows\startup folder and use the Edit menu at the bottom left to select Paste as Shortcut. calnot.exe is actually in ROM so you can't rename or delete it (easily).
It worked! I tried it several times like you described, but got the message it was in use, or something like that. But now it's ok. Thanks a lot, the alarms seems to work properly.
@mtbsoft: I found a program/tweak that may solve the problem. It's free.
Look at http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php for wakeup tweak
All wakeup tweak does (to my recollection) is adjusts the Power up timeout that so many others also do - the results are variable and it doesn't work for me. I actually found a better solution in the shape of SuperAlert from www.whittakermoore.com - finally 100% reliable.
I didn't no, learnt again something. I'll give it a try. Thanks
Voila,
Now the nightmare is over, the HW camera/record buttons work again.
See here:
http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_simpleboard/Itemid,59/func,view/catid,26/id,13928/#13986
And from March 27, 2006 the red/green leds light again. 8)8)8)
Here is the setup to install !!!

I'm sorry to hear that, you're the first reporting that kind of problem!
Anyway, just remove the entry HKLM/Services/CamRecSvc in the registry and do a soft reset.

Don't know how
Sorry DotFred you are talking to a newbie, don't know how to change a registry entry, I have trawled through the forums but to no avail, can you either let me know how to do it or point me in the direction of where to find out.

Ok no prob. Denise,
Here is a little app. that you have to launch on your ppc, it will remove the camrecsvc service.
Cheers

ps.: can you tell me what version of himalaya and the OS you're using ?
Thanks
Hi Fred,
you forgot to attach the fix, but it's no matter last night i trawled through the site and finally found the how to for my XDA its a XDAIIs which I belive is a Blue Angel, I have now managed to get a registy editor and have deleted the files but it has not solved my problem.
The problem I am experiencing is as if a button is stuck and it keeps opening Text messages and IE constantly.
I am using OS WM2005, can't find where the about button is to find the version.

What fix, the uninstall_camrecsvc.exe removes the camrecsvc.dll from the ppc and deletes the related keys from the registry.
And yes, if you have a BlueAngel, it won't work (go here and you will know which ppc you have http://wiki.xda-developers.com/). I don't check the type of ppc, and maybe it's a good idea to add that to the service.
Anyway, you seem to say that the problem remains even after the deinstallation of the service, am I right ? Are you sure the service has been removed. Do you have a file called /Windows/CamRecSvc.dll ?
Otherwise I don't think you have a lot of choices.
I would try a hard reset first and clean the registry.
If you have an himalaya:
Press ResetButton and hold down CameraButton + RecordButton.
Hold them pressed until the "Boot Options" menu appears on the screen.
Select the options as follows:
(for selecting use RecordButton, change values with CameraButton)
Enable KITL -> NO
Clean Registry Hive -> YES
Format Storage -> NO
When done, press DPad and wait until OS starts.
If you have a BlueAngel, just find somewhere here how to do a hard reset.
ps.: before doing this, I suggest you to do a backup of your pim and important files first in case you make a mistake at some stage.
If the problem still persists. Then I would suggest a reflash of the OS.
Cheers and good luck,
.Fred
Thank GOD!!!
Hi Fred,
Thanks for that, played about with it for a bit and reinstalled the fix and got a different registry editor, deleted the dll again and it seem to work.
only issue i have now is when in sync it asks me for server IP address, i have seen a forum for sorting this.
thanks again and that will teach me to just do an update without checking what device i have!
Cheers

Hi Dotfred, after installing the downloaded file, the buttons respond perfectly. But the camera button takes me to MY PICTURES. Am expecting to see the camera icon there but vanished. I went to the program files to call the camera from there but I get the same problem. Am using 2.0

Just create a new Text document on your pc and open it with notepad
type this:
40#:MSCAMERA?shellres.dll,-8263
rename it:
camera.lnk
And save it on your ppc here:
/Windows/AppButtons
Cheers,

ps.: if the camera app is not launched then there is a bug or something different in that ROM
hi dotfred, unfortunately I have hard reset my phone and everything is normal now. The buttons are working perfectly with your application . Thanx and keep up the with the spirit of the forum. GREAT WORK!
hi guys...

hi DotFred.
You made a hell of a job by doing this. Thanks a lot, only.... the green-red lights still are dark at my Qtek2020 with tofclock's 2.01a.64wwe, radio 1.17
I copied the .exe to my device and started it, gave a soft reset but no lights. The HW buttons are ok (great!) Am I doing something wrong?
problem solved: I used the wrong version of camrecsvc.dll.
After copying the wright one (2.1.0.1) to windows\ and restarted the program is was ok. Thanks .Fred for the excellent program.

Just check if the camrecsvc.dll is started.
Some people said that the setup doesn't work on their hima.
So they had to do the installation/upgrade manually.
Read the related posts on buzzdev.net, you will probably find the answer.

Thanks DotFred,
you solved my problem about camera / record non working buttons
Thnaks again!
Buttons work & leds are shining after install, but this features don't work after soft reset. Help please. c-shekhar WM6.1
Hello @ all,
I have often problems with reminders, too, as posted by others before. When phone is resetted, the reminders drive me to hell. I tried check notification, but I am not able to get this again workin normal...
Check notification seems not to work properly, or probably I am doing something wrong... When I hit in the options delete duplicate reminders, nothing happens. When I then hit "clear", all my reminders are deleted...
But now, I have another issue: Reminders are not stoppable because there does not appear the info where i can dismiss it...
It's very poor for MS, that this problem exists since OS 2003 and seems to be still in WM6...
Hope that someon has some hitns for me...
the best solution is memmaid (www.dinarsoft.com), but it's not free
Hi zoki!
Thanks for your answer. That too is new to me... I'll give it a try, there's a 15 das limited trial available...

I'll second Memmaid. This tool is great for cleaning stuff up (bad notifications, bad links, etc).
I installed it and had a look on it...
In the notification queue I see hundreds of reminders. Its OK, I am using my calendar very intensive...
So, I searched for duplicated items (is that really the problem for my issue?!). Found two, deleted them, restarted my nice phone, and again: my phone reminds me for i dont know, 5 to 10 notifications at one time. sounds nice, when two rings are ringing at one time but it nerves...
what can I do to solve my probelm with this tool?!
so, I have many items there:
calendar.exe
clock.exe (more than three!). I think that there's the problem?! I would say only three should be there...?!
for following items i have no clue what they are,...
tmail.exe
calupd.exe
sqmevent.exe
enrollnot.exe
\\.\Notifications\NamedEvents\SCRIPT:0x0
clocknot.exe
repllog.exe
calnot.exe
Reminders problem
OK, I don't use reminders, but try this: Turn off notifications before resetting your device. I don't remember if there is a setting in the calendar program for this, as I use pocket informant, but probably there is. Then, after resetting, turn them back on. This might at least stop it reminding you about past events. If this doesn't work, you can try turning them off in the "Sounds and Notifications" program in the Settings folder. Then turn them back on after resetting.
Good luck,
I don't think this will solve dbsoundz's problems. I had the same thing yesterday morning, my alarm woke me up on the normal programmed time, but there's no button to dismiss it. Even switching of the alarm doesn't work, it keeps up going. Only by hard-reset I was able to solve this.
Thanks for discussion...
what have I done: I deleted all the items with "clock.exe". After that, my phone was not again ringing wild on phone startup . So far so good.
But:
the problem with the missing notification of reminders still exists
hm... it still rings once on startup. but the ringtone is another then edited in the sound settings under "reminders"... but thank god, no ringing orchestra any more... and still w/o "dismiss"-notification
It sounds to me like a time zone problem! Try going to a different time zone let it chnage and then wait a couple of secs and chnage back!
Hi funman,
thanks for your reply.
I tried your suggestion. but it didn't help. Same problems as before. I was also sceptical about that, because I don't think that there's the problem. As described, the phone makes still a ring orchestra at start up and the reminders are totally different from settings in the sounds/notification settings... very strange. And there's still no notification baloon where I could "dismiss" it...
I saw this registry tweak:
http://www.mdatweak.com/tweak_detail.php?tweak=14
that adds vibration to buttons of the dial pad
However I tried it in WM6 and it doesn;t work anymore. Does anybody know how to get it working in WM6?
I used the attached cab and got it working in WM6.
It looks like it makes the same changes as on that website, only automatically.
One thing I noticed, which might help or might not, was that it didn't seem to vibrate when I had "Keypad" under Phone Settings set to "Off".
Try setting it to "Short tones" and see if it works.
Oh, and you've reset your phone after making the registry tweaks, right?
yep, that was it. my device (htc herald wm6) was set to no sounds.
I found that it does not always vibrate. Sort of as if the vibrate motor has to start up. It worked best if the settings were set to long tones.
But I'm not using it anymore. in practice it is not as handy as I though it would be
vibrating keypad
hi guys. i downloaded the above attached file to my tytn 11 (orange). i find it does not work well (due to the time lag in the vibrating winding-up process) - and wish to delete it (it is actually quite annoying) and regain the normal keypad tone. i have gone into 'settings' 'remove programmes' and see no item listed. I have gone into 'file explorer' and delete the file name - to no effect. have i done the wrong thing? can anyone help me, please?
First of all...
This is wizard forum not herald....
Then use this...
attached let me know if this works...
+ Que PPC. thanks. have tried your solution (and then done a soft reset). unfortunately it has not worked! could you please consider another solution...?
noup really no...
I dont have other this works forme on Hermes and in wizard the truckQteka makes the dids! but i dont find it anymore. sorry men ask on Kaiser forum
HELP!
For some reason the alarms function has gone screwy on my orbit, there's no dismiss button when the alarm sounds and so I can't disable the thing - soft reset isn't helping and I can't find any way of disabling the thing without a hard reset which I'd much rather avoid.
The only change I made was to my activesync software which I upgraded yesterday to 4.2.
Any ideas anyone?
it's driving me mad as I effectively cant use the phone while this is happening.
have a look for "notification queue" in this forum. Maybe this will help you.
Alarm Fix
Try this attached program.
I downloaded it the other week and this has cleared a large number of the problems I had on my Artemis.
It may help.
