I Would like buy the new PocketPC But I need help for decide what the best pocket
- Omnia i900 or
- Touch HD
Thx
EMERSON VIER

depends on what you want from a device

Also if you are expecting to have the great support form this site you should choose HD, as this site is HTC only devices.
Good luck,

I'm sorry, but i can't see where the omnia is better than the Touch HD. maybe someone can enlighten me?

HD is better. But...
I actually use both Omnia and HD at the moment and I have to say both of them are very good.
The Omnia has a lot of nice custom applications, good performance and a cool optical D-Pad.
The HD had an AMAZING screen and a perfect design, but it lacks a D-Pad which is annoying.
In general there are some differences, but bottom line is that the HD is probably better.
I actually wrote a nice comparison between the HD and the Omnia. You are invited to take a look:
http://mobilespoon.blogspot.com/2009/05/samsung-omnia-vs-htc-touch-hd.html

Go with the Touch HD.. the battery life is longer (im sick of hearing about all omnia battery life issues.. get over it! >_<) and the screen resolution (WVGA) makes things look simply amazing.

My touch pro is looking a bit old hat now...
Really?? But if you didn't need a keyboard why didn't you get the diamond (then you could be upset )
I still love the keyboard on my TP
But if they make a 1700mhz flavor for Tmo US 3G, I'll be all over that in an instant.
nah...rafael owners will cry when the HD pro comes out...but this one has no keyboard...so it's not really comparable
I on the other hand....am still waiting for the Touch Pro to be available here in the philippines...and then the HD comes out...sheesh.
No keyboard. No go.

Well they keyboard is a very nice iece of kit (and it's why I got the tP over the diamond, that and the SAR rating) but a bigger, higher resolution screen, 5mp camera and an updated TFlo 3D does look mighty fine...
And only a 1350mAH battery - pretty small given the screen size.....
The thing is, the way the keyboard is programmed - takes away a lot of the advantage (for me) to having a hardware keyboard. All of the keys register the same in outside programs. So the keyboard is currently useless for emulation and games.
Does anyone know if the Touch HD has TV Out like the Raphael? That could be another important distinction.
Looks like the sites down
But im in the same pickle...
HD or TP Big screen or keyboard.

Nothing on that link. I have heard about the HD and would love to come back to Winmo from iPhone but I need 3G or HSPA on ATT. Will probably go with the Touch Pro until the HD comes available on ATT (if ever)
Very happy with my TP with the hardware, size and keyboard, unless they come up with another ground breaking innovation
I don't see why the HD is "over" Pro in some way (except the screen res. which I am not sure it is good or bad and the camera resolution which I don't really care too much).
no TV out?
Spec seems pretty light at the moment - I suspect more detail will be added in the comming days, weeks...... We may see some other "items" added to the list? Theres a basic review here too: http://www.trustedreviews.com/mobile-devices/news/2008/09/11/HTC-Touch-HD--The-True-iPhone-Rival-/p1 Looks pretty cool but it depends on what you beed?
I personally am fortunate to have both the Diamond and Pro - I added the pro to my collection after finding that it was a little extra memory and the MicroSD card slot that I missed - not the keyboard at all - I do love the Pro though and the "gadgets too" - the TV cable is great - I travel a lot with work and now use the Pro to watch movies on the Hotel room TV - thats pretty cool - and last week I gave a Power point presentation using the Pro on a standard projector - very cool indeed.....
So - I'll probably get a HD when they come along and we'll see which one I stick with - at the moment - the Pro's my main man....!
.
13mm bigger
I see there 2 other models as well.
Still happy with the Pro great Business Tool which is more important to me.
The HD has this iphone feel about?
Will the Diamond/Touch Pros will get the Touchflo 3D enchancements from the Touch HD and Touch 3Gs/Viva?
There is a stocks tab in the HD and all the new Touchs have the 4 day weather right on the screen.

I second that! No tv out?
They would better go off by some hardware video decoder not only with bigger screen resolution. Hi-res devices really need such to fully enjoy movies on them.

It's just some scripts and png files as part of Manila. They're already being dissected over on the Diamond forum (there's a custom Calendar and Calc tab), so no doubt once the HD version comes out it will be ported to Diamond/Pro. Of course the HD benefits from the WVGA to fit more info on screen.
Of course, HTC might release ROM updates that include the new interface as well.

HTC Touch: Diamond Vs Pro Vs HD

Hi guys,
I am new to this forum.. I would appreciate your input...I have a question regarding these HTC PDA's
HTC Touch Diamond
HTC Touch Pro
HTC Touch HD
Which one is the best out of these in all standards... I have read about some problems with Diamond and Pro. but I would like you hear your opinions as I am going to place an order this week for one of these.
cheers
Touch Pro has the advantage of a keyboard, Touch HD has the advantage in everything else. That makes it easy enough.
welcome to the forum....I like the Touch HD. U can find more compare info on it here:

Completly agree mate
If HD makes a model with sliding super slim keyboard!! then could be the expected succesor of Uni.
I´ll go for the HD!
HTC Touch Pro HD
I am seriously thinking of replacing my long-in-the-tooth Tilt with the HTC Touch HD, but I love the slide out keyboard. Any chance that HTC will be bringing out a HTC Touch Pro HD in the next 6-8 months?
I wouldn't hold my breath for a HD with a keyboard as it defeats the object of having a large screen so you can get a usable size soft keyboard. Plus we know what it's been developed to compete with so anything that would make it bigger, heavier than the direct competition, like a slide out keyboard isn't going to happen IMHO.
As for the original question...
Pro and HD have expandable memory via MicroSD card were Diamond has fixed 4GB.
HD is the only one with a standard 3.5mm audio jack... for the others you need to buy an adapter.
HD is more or less an iPhone clone in terms of physical size so if you like that form factor its the one to go for. (my ideal would be the Diamond which is very slim)
Specification wise the Pro and HD are very similar but I guess that because the delayed release the HD will get an updated version of the TouchFlo system to make use of the big fancy screen.
hope it helps you make an informed decision
Ditto if the HD had a keyboard it would be HUUUUGE. Like having a universal TV remote in your pocket at all times.
not being released in the US
touch pro is best
touch hd:
1-no keyboard
2-no d pad
3-no camera flash
4-no camera buttom
5-big size
6-smaller life time battery ...assuming that compared with pro same 1350 battery but hd bigger screen
7-no tv output
I like the look of the HD but agree with the posts here a keyboard would make it awesome.
i also believe that the HD is the best of those three - alas, i love qwerty keyboards and since i couldn't decide between the HD and the Diamond PRO 0 and since i didn't want to choose between a slider keyboard and an awesome screen, i chose the xperia and would heartly recommend doing the same thing; it's a great device and you definitely won't regret buying it (especially that it runs the HD touchflo3d just fine!)

which do u think is better the omnia or touch pro?

i'm planning on buying one of them and i was wondering which one would be better? im having a hard time choosing between the touchflo 3d and touch wiz interface.
also wouldnt be possible to put touchflo 2d on the omnia. i bet it would look good on a 3.2 inch screen.
depend on if you want a real keyboard and higher resolution
or a bigger screen
i have a himalaya with a 3.5" screen
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Himalaya
with touchflo end up removing it
Personally I would go for the Touch Pro as I trust more the HTC manufactured devices.
But as our oldest member and Mod says: it depends exactly what you prefer to have on a device.
I´ll wait for HD

Touch Pro vs. Samsung Omnia?

Sorry if this is completly out of place here but I just have to ask!
I am getting tired of all the problems with HTC devices, and I am considering buying another device just to be able to do what I want!
Let´s face it, I have had many different HTC devices, and there is always a problem somewhere! Either it´s the video driver or gps lag or whatever...
Now, I am not ready to give up on my TP just yet, and that is mainly becouse of this great forum. So I am keeping my TP to see if things get better in the future!
But I still want to be able to use my GPS software properly, and would also like to be able to watch movies without having to bring another set of devices with me where ever I go!
I was looking at the new Touch HD, but it seems that it has video issues as well!
So now I was thinking about the Samsung Omnia!
All the reviews I read so far seems promising, the device is very fast and is even DivX certified!
My question is, have you used or do you own a Samsung Omnia?
If yes, then what is your opinion about it? Is it really as good as I think it is or is it just another HTC like device with many buggs?
Will I be able to watch my videos smoothly or not?
Will I be able to use the gps without lag?
How does it compare to TP when it comes to other programs and games?
How is the screen compared to TP, does it feal much bigger or not?
Or maybe you can suggest another device that meets my demands, I am open for sugestion!
I know these are alot of questions, but I hope that some of you can help me out here! I am really frustrated that I have to bring several different devices with me to be able to do everything that my expencive TP was supposed to be able to do!
Thanks to all of you in advance!
my 2 cents...
list out ur priorities in what you want and then choose from there...
ie
video = get iphone
GSP = get nokia
.
.
.
for what u have stated, i'd personally get the HD over the Omina as its more sexy but its a bit bigger which is a turn off. If ur choices are limited to HD or Omina then I'd choose HD as I would think the battery would be better and lets face it... all phone are crap if the battery sucks...

The fact the HD is bigger then Omnia is no issue for me, and I also think that HD is the better looking device!
However I read in the HD forum that HD still has problems with video playback, now if that is true it´s a complete turn off for me!
A negative, Omnia won't have world 3G (850/1900 + 2100).

the default playback is not important to me as I only use CorePlayer... unless i'm mistaken and ur talking abt the phone hardware itself.... that i'm not technical enough to comment on.

I think it is problem with hardware becouse they say that there is no smooth playback even with CP without converting!
Maybe another device is better then Omnia?
If Omnia is not as good, maybe you all can suggest me another device that will fit my needs?
Thanks!
I am responsible for the mobile devices in our company. I have a T-Mobile Vario IV (HTC Touch Pro) and a T-Mobile Vario III (HTC Kaiser) for my own use. I have ordered and configured 2 Samsung Omnia, 3 Vario IV, 3 Compact IV (HTC Diamond) and the best after all is the Vario IV.
The Omnia software feels not very well. The TF3D ist much more comfortable als feels really smooth.
If you can live without the g-sensor, get the Xperia X1 and put HD manilla on it.

I tought the X1 had a much smaller screen, and less RAM?
Bigger, higher res screen than touch pro, better battery too. And 3.5mm headphones. If only it had been available in Australia a month ago (still isn't). That said, I like my touch pro. The GPS isn't so bad it's not useful and it's a big improvement on my old Hermes...
I was trying to decide between the Omnia and the Pro myself. I ended up keeping my Touch Pro - largely because of the cost difference between identical plans with Sprint and Verizon.
Video will definitely run smoothly on the Omnia because it has a faster processor, and is not running a VGA screen. The screen is much lower resolution and nonstandard though it's bigger. That said, quality TV Out will be limited to files it's native player can output. Otherwise, you're only getting the resolution of the screen, 400 x 240 I think.
On the Touch Pro, I've gotten good performance with the files I normally play using either Coreplayer or Divx Player. I've heard bad reviews about unconverted files using TV Out - but am waiting for a cable to try myself.
When you're comparing screens - the Touch Pro is higher resolution but the Omnia is bigger. I can see positives and negatives to both in viewing webpages or images. But for video play and output the Omnia should be faster.
By the way, I should add that though the Touch HD has a bigger, 800 x 480 screen - video play should be slower/choppier than the Touch pro because it has the same processor. The same processor would have to move even more pixels, which is already causing slow performance with the Raphael's VGA screen.
The only possibility for better performance with a VGA (or higher) screen, is a faster processor or better integrated video drivers.
If I were you, I wouldn't sink a lot of money into a samsung phone. IMO they are generally not very good. That being said, the Omnia is obviously not a standard samsung.
pros
-it has innovative interface
-bigger screen
-good with media
cons
-lower res screen (is it wqvga? i think it is)
-NO STYLUS SLOT (huge turnoff)
no qwerty (we are comparing to touch pro here)
this being said, I feel that there is little the omnia can do that the pro can't. with coreplayer, video playback is flawless for me, even when i am viewing a 700mb divx encoded movie
I purchased omnia!
Okey, so I decided to buy the Omnia even if most of you voted against it!
Boy am I glad I did that!
I have spent almost this whole day testing the device, the first thing I tested was to copy a 1.2 gb Xvid movie to it, it played out of the box with it´s built in touch player so I did not even have to install CorePlayer! And do I even have to mention that it did not lag/stutter even once watching the whole movie, with alot of action scenes!
Then I installed TomTom 7 and BeeLine GPS and went out for a walk!
Testing BeelineGPS while walking was a whole different experience then with my Touch Pro, the compas view rotated and adjusted it´s position with every step I took! (With Touch Pro it only updated every 10 to 20 meters!) What a difference!
TomTom performed just as well, it followed my car exactly even in high speed!
And it is alot snappier then my Touch Pro even tho it has less ram! Rotating screen is an instant and overall performance is way better then the TP!
Bare in mind that I have installed custom speedy rom in my TP, and the Omnia is all original! Now imagine what this device can do with a custom rom!
I dont know about you, but I can just say that I dont believe I made a misstake with this device, but I have to keep testing it a bit more, just had it one day so far!

As I said, I bought the omnia yesterday, and today after two days of pretty heavy use, I still have 40% battery left!
So the batter is in fact better then in my tp which did not even last for one full day!

I live in Sweden so I am not familiar with the networks in us, but this is what I see in my Omnia settings: Automatic, GSM 900/1800, GSM 850/1900 and WCDMA!
I should point out that this is a 3G device and it works great here in sweden, it also has HSDPA (Hight speed internet!)
Hope this helps!
I love my Omnia, but especially with this ROM: http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-...illa2d-with-flashlite-3-1-and-uc-dthj9-m2d03/
But I can get a great deal on a Fuze through work and I'm tempted to pick one up as well... this last month or so that I've had the Omnia is the first time since the Blue Angel came out that I haven't had an HTC device

Truth about Xperia X1 and WM - is it really worth it ?

Hello WM community !
To cut long story short, I got very interested in WM and now I am considering to buy Xperia, but after reading a lot in this forum I got my doubts about it.
A lot people says that WM is way ahead comparing to symbian and yeah, for example Xperia's cpu and ram size is almost twice (or even more) as big as any other symbian device. But what are they good for if Xperia can hardly play good quality clips smoothly and run game emulators at decent speed ( I mean snes ,gba emulator with sound or even FPSCE) ? The old, practically unchanged S60 platform can run those things ( and even .avi files) without problems (well except FPSCE of course ). As you probably all know, few symbian phones even are able to run Q3 at a very very decent speed. So my question is, why Xperia is worth paying around 800 $ ? Just for super comfy office tools? Sexy design? Nice touch screen? Why ?
I don't want to judge anything, I just want to find arguments why I should buy the Xperia ? And I need your help guys
Thanks in advance
P.S. As you noticed, I want to use phone as a multimedia entertainment device, especially for movies.
hi,
i understand your concerns.. i am sorry i do not watch shows on it..
but my own experiences,
PRO:the screen is sharp. 3 inch is good.. touch pro is only 2.8 and its heavier.
the CPU to me seems ok. In fact youtube has a vs touch pro video out there.. x1 is faster when switching landscape.
the touch screen is good in response for me. most task can be used one hand finger.
Keyboard is good.. you can type pretty fast on it.
as of all WM devices, you need to customize it before it becomes better.. i am speed dialers .. launchers... cool.
battery life for above average usage is 24hours. (am told other devices is shorter )
CON:
the camera button is difficult to press
you may get the rattle "add on" (ie a rattle sound when shaked )
price is a little on the upside.. well this is suppose to be their flagship premium phone.
for my subjective opinion, WM, especially touch HD is the best for me, that will be my future device,. hehe,.
easy software upgrade, ROM cooking, etc,.
i agree with -G-, my next device will be the touch HD, the wait to march will be ohhh soooo long
touch HD is good.. however if poster needs a h/w keyboard.. then touch HD is out..

lol, yeah,.
The Touch HD is a media orientated device (what with it having things like the 3.5mm headphone jack) and in CorePlayer (or even TCPMP) the HD can play full size AVI movies pretty much perfectly!
The X1 has very similar hardware, except for the keyboard, but that may be used in game emulators. Also, I'm sure that emulators would run okay (they can run on my Prophet, with a 200MHz processor, and 64MB of RAM!)
I've seen both (but not used them, only reviews).
The Xperia is much better looking than the Touch Pro IMHO. It is smaller, lighter, and just cooler. They both should perform the same, but I think the Pro has the better UI
thanks for commenting.
I will probably buy it, but still I can find the arguments to justify the price....
anyway, thanks again.
