Anyone else go from a Kaiser to a Raphael?
Raphael is due to hit my area in a day or two, want to know if i'll be happy swapping from the kaiser to the Raphael..
My big issues with the Kaiser I'm hoping the Raphael might solve:
1) Lack of video drivers & the overall slowness in response
2) keyboard missing keystrokes when typing faster then it can handle
Anyone have any feedback on those 2 areas? Will I see an improvement from the upgrade?
I've just made the move from a Kaiser and I've found the Raph's keyboard to be much more responsive and less laggy - it keeps up even when I type fast and the buttons are much more responsive.
With a lot of tweaking, I managed to get fairly decent video playback on my Kaiser using CorePlayer, and the Raph equals or betters this. It plays H.264 video files natively in Windows Media Player very smoothly, and high quality 3GP files are handled well too. If you want to play unoptimised Xvids or something like that, you'll need CorePlayer with QTV mode and the Kaiser compatibility option switched on to get best performance.
So to answer your question - yes you will notice an improvement on those two issues, and many more besides. Once you've used the VGA screen for an hour or so, you'll wonder how you ever managed with such a low res on your Kaiser
I would say go for it..... speed is better, keyboard better (although keys are smaller), screen (VGA), ram/rom (plenty of it), light sensor (not really that sensitive), g-sensor (nice toy so far, can be useful), stylus sensor (can be useful as well)..... plus the size is smaller not bulky like the kaiser....... conclusion : Im happy with the swap....
got 1 minus point to add..batt life sucks compared to kaiser. and man i thought my kaiser batt was bad.
kaiser normal usage=12 hours
tp normal usage 6-9hours

ROLF.
How's about the same aplication on VGA eat up from 250% to 300% value spaces compare to QVGA? Are you happy with batt. life, too?
i wasn't happy with battery life on the kaiser........seem to have the same problem on the raph... if you are using it heavily it has to be charged twice a day, other wise you would still have 35% at the end of the day (9:00pm).....
Battery life obviously depends on usage, network conditions etc and therefore difficult to compare with other users. Ive found battery life on the raph to be better than the kaiser.
I charge mine once a week, but I turn it off during nights.
Hello everybody,
I just noticed that browsing a website with the stock browser (with flash plugin disabled) produces a VERY BIG amount of heat, resulting in a quick battery drain.
I am not talking about clicking links, scrolling pages, etc....
I am experiencing this issue just opening a web page then leaving it alone 5 minutes with the display on.
If I open an article and scroll down a litlle bit every 10 seconds, the problem is bigger and the phone becomes VERY HOT
I have never had this problem with my Nexus S before
Do you have the same problem?
Same problem, internet browsing drain battery and overheath cover and battery, 42/43' C

I will try unlocking bootloader and installing CM9 to check if the issue is related to stock firmware, did anyone try to use some flavour of CM9?
Yea I tested this on stock ROM, TrickDroid, CM9, and MIUI. Chrome and Dolphin seem to be less of a drain than stock Browser. Have not tested Firefox or Opera.
has anyone tried using chrome beta? i've had my hos for about 3 weeks now and have been mostly using chrome on it to surf. the phone gets at most warm if i surf a lot but nothing that would be considered hot.
I have tested this many times. Stock rom aswel as CM9 (v6,7 and 8).
On both I am getting around 4 hours of screen time before the battery runs out. Very consistent. Inverting colors doesn't seem to help either.

4 hours of continuous screen time sounds about right according to gsmarena's own battery test. check under web browsing. it's too bad this figure can't go any higher as the talk time and media playback both seem to be on the upper end of the chart.
i guess it's the downside of having android + amoled screen.

just noticed that the windows phone 7.5 samsung focus s with super amoled plus screen is rated for 2 more hours of web browsing time and it also has a 4.3" screen (with lower res) and the same 1650mah battery. the only difference appears to be the OS and cpu. we definitely need android to run more efficiently.

after more day i have found a possible solution ... BEFORE the update at a 1.78 rom based, battery of my One S drain normally and back cover don't heat .. since using EVERY 1.78 based rom my battery drain quickly in the web browsing and all One S overheating .. there seem be a sw issues .. don't ?
i haven't used much of 1.53 after getting my phone and went straight to 1.78. maybe i should roll back and give that a try.

I don't think I'd want the single core processor and 512MB of memory the Focus S has.

of course no one would want a single core cpu these days, at least not for a phone running android. my point for bringing up the focus s is that it's an older phone with slower and likely more power hungry cpu and yet it's able to last longer. everything else aside, the only difference would be the OS, screen res and cpu.
I read somewhere that SAMOLED screens drain faster on white colours, maybe that's why it drains faster on the browser.

This thread is quite old, but since I'm having the same issue with my phone, so thought not to create a new topic when one already exists.
Yesterday I used stock browser (not that much, not for hour(s)), and it took 36% of my phone's battery. I want to ask is it normal? Or only my phone having this issue that stock browser is taking so much of battery usage.
Secondly, you can't even close stock browser, I mean when you're done using it, you can only press the home key, and it is minimized and stays in the memory (thought was not showing in stock task manager, but in battery consumption, it was showing with "cross" button dark).
Please see the attached image, the browser has consumed 36% of battery with not a heavy usage. And secondly when I saw screen shots of battery posted by other users, there's "Screen" also showing up in the battery usage, but in my phone, no such thing "Screen" appears in battery usage. I'm using Apex launcher, is apex launcher = screen?
Regards
same issue with stock browser drain on S3 processor and android 4.1.1, any solution?
Edit:last htc stock rom

I can say that on stock 4.0.4 the integrated browser took 25% of battery per hour.
The problem is on "sleep" mode, seems stock browser are runnning and drains about 40%. This happens with a new S3 stock htc. I have an S4 with vodafone rom and works fine. This is strange behaviour but seems omer7 have the same problem
That is normal. on sense 4+ (JB), there is no screen use % like there was on ICS. Basically, your screen time % is included with the % of each app listed, that's why they seem high.
HTC_One_S | S-OFF | DeviantXone | Bubba_3.7b_SoftOV
yea battery drain is also happening for me in the stock browser but not that much in another one
Strange really
Could you guys please state how much juice are you consuming when surfing with the stock browser? So that we can make a more objective comparison. Also mention any relevant factors (e.g. kernel, undervolting, sunlight, etc.), if any.
In my case it's 25% per hour, with no direct sunlight. I'm on 4.0.4 though.
So i bought a used HTC Sensation XE, came from a Moto Atrix 4g and have to say that i like the Sensation a bit more. I think its not even more snappy, i just think it feels much better both in my pocket and in my hand. paid 100€ so i was lucky to get a good deal. only problem i noticed is compared to my atrix (4.1 epinter), which runs with moderate usage nearly 48 hours without problems, is the battery. i noticed, when i was for example reading something, i coud see how my battery got empty in minutes. additionally i have to set brightness outside to 70% and still can hardly see whats on my phone if im not holding my hand aside to get some shadow. so i bought a new battery (1730mah) and it cycled 3 days now. but this morning when i was reading a summary of a book for school (brightness set at 10%) my battery was reduced from nearly 60% to 25% in 25 minutes. everytime i wanna check the news for more than 30 seconds i can see some percents just passing by
i thought this cant be, so maybe my (or all sensation's) display is the fault. on the one hand you cant read the display, if it isnt set on full brightness, if its sunny, and on the other hand its so battery expensive, that you cant even afford to use a good brighness setting.
does that mean the only way to get a full day is to just use it in the shadow?
is my new battery or is it just a crappy display? i love this phone, but its not really usefull like that.
oh, and can you read whats on your display if its sunny outside?
im using albinomans 4.2 build from 31 march with sultan kernel. cpu govenor is set on interactive, highest cpu frequency is 1620mhz.
so please tell me your experience and let me know if you got a solution
p.s.: sorry for the bad english, im in a hurry and not a native speaker

Hi,
Does Sultan kernel still do intellidemand?
If so,try that, and reduce your cpu frequency to 1180 mhz.
You are lucky to have sunshine outside...
But you cannot see the screen when it is bright.

Hi,
Low Power Audio
Yep, I've already knew this, by asking what is it I meant how does it interrupt daily usage.

Hi,
LPA (Low Power Audio) Playback (broken in all JB roms, and has been for awhile, needs ION)
OMG, but I cant really understand what Low Power Audio mean. Show me some examples when i face it, like this - BSOD is when your screen is black after you try to unlock it.

Low Power Audio uses the ION memory mapper to save power.
LPA uses less CPU power by using the ION mapper instead of passing it through the Audio Flinger process.
Passing audio through the Audio Flinger process uses a lot more CPU cycles, which means the battery doesn't last as long as it could with LPA.
If you use Sense (3.0/3.6/4.0/4+) you'll use LPA when playing MP3s, FLACs or any other audio file. I'm not sure if CM9 or CM7 use LPA.
(For example, you can play music at 3% battery power for forty minutes to an hour with LPA. Without LPA, you could only play music for ten to thirty minutes.)
That just means that your phone will consume a bit more power while listening to music when the screen is off than it would do on ICS / stock ROM (the android version your phone came with).
So... not that big of a deal
And thats what I wanted to hear! Thanks guys. Could you say how big is that battery drain?

I found with LPA battery drain is around 3-5% with an hour of listening. Without LPA 8-10%. It's not exact as it differs depending on your phone and the amount of applications running in the background.
Just wanted to give an overview of the HTC One M8 WP Edition to those who were wondering what it's like..
Performance wise, the WP 8.1 is actually a really smooth OS that I've never ran into any problems with so far. The only bad side to the platform is not being able to download the same variety of apps you can on an android phone (hopefully can be ported soon).
The best part of the phone, in my opinion, is the speakers. They are not only loud, but also surprisingly clear and crisp. A lot of my friends always ask me if I'm using a Bluetooth speaker, when it's really just my phone playing music.
The screen is amazing. The viewing angles are great, and everything is just perfect. There is one issue with the auto brightness where it wouldn't lower to the lowest brightness in a pure dark condition and wouldn't raise all the way in the sun. This isn't just my device as one of my friends also experienced this. Hopefully this is a software issue that can be fixed.
Overall, the phone performs just was well as the regular Android or HTC Sense editions (same hardware). The browser could use a little bit of work because it's relatively slow, but that's why 3rd part apps exist.
If you guys have any questions about the phone, I'll be happy to try to answer them below. Thanks!

Battery life is actually really good.
I wake up around 7AM, attend class, and go to sleep around 11. By then, there is still about 30 percent of battery left.
I use it pretty heavily too (youtube, browsing, gaming).
On weekends I don't have to charge it until Sunday.
EDIT: I forgot to mention I usually use the medium brightness setting.
Any way to show sot with wp?

can you provide some comparison for some one thinking about switching from android -> windows?
like my android - and use lots of "pc related" functions... vpn, remote desktop, office documents. all my phones are rooted for access to wifi tether.
switching to windows would give me a bonus of internet explorer (required for a work application) that i don't have using android (i use remote desktop app to get to a windows pc to use IE on it).
