I am unable to install .net cf 3.5 to my OMNIA I900 as it states can not install .net cf 3.5 cab. Same when attempting to reinstall version 2. Is there a fix to this problem
there are a few versions depending on your processor type.
i will edit this post with a link to all NETCF3.5 cabs in a minute.

That's rubbish. All .NetCF versions are for all PPC. Besides WM6.1 on the omnia has .NetCFv2 built in...
U can check the installed versions and assign them with this little app.
Dirk
all this does is let you switch the default framework.
different types of frameworks depending on the cpu might have an effect if he's having problems.

I can not install the 3.5 cf on my TP. Was wondering if this was due to running a custom rom. Any suggestions. It goes through the install process on my phone then pops up with this error:
Installation Error. Stop all applications and processes, maximize all available storage space, and run installation again. Support info: 3.
Any help is appreciated.
Perhaps it's already installed in the custom ROM?

Most (if not all of them) of custom roms in here has pre-installed .net 3.5.
perhaps tell us which custom rom you are using?

If you are using a cook rom, Its more the 100% true that this rom has nf3.5 allready. So if the install fails you already have 3.5
You can use the .NET Configuration Tool which can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=373721
It will tell you which version of .NET is installed on your device.
I have had a similar problem, I in-fact did have 3.5 pre-installed but the program wanted specifically v2.0 for some strange reason. I just didn't install but now I am curious as my understanding is that the v3.5 and any version for that matter is inclusive of previous versions. Anyone care to shed some light?

As far as i know, net. 3.5 is not an "update" to net 2.0, you have to install both, if a prog needs 2.0 and you already have 3.5
in a registry key i can see that i ve both versions installed

Thanks for clearing that up for me, will load v2.0 for the apps that require it.

Erm, 3.5 does in fact support previous versions of .net cf without requiring them installed..
From the belly of the beast
The Microsoft® .NET Compact Framework 3.5 Redistributable contains the common language runtime and class libraries built for the .NET Compact Framework. In addition to version 3.5 support, it also supports applications developed for version 1.0 and 2.0. The .NET Compact Framework 3.5 provides new features such as Windows Communication Foundation, LINQ, SoundPlayer, new runtime tool support, and many other features.

Indeed. The issue is that some installers check for installed .NET CF versions incorrectly, so when they don't see 2.0 on the device, they automatically fail the whole installation.
This should not be compared to the way the desktop .NET Framework functions, because the two have some very significant differences.
This will do the trick.
Much info about .net compact framework 3.5
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/netframework/aa497273.aspx
Did it work now?
Dear all,
Can anyone help me that I have installed ifonz to my htc touch newly. But somehow it doesn't work. After installation when I try to tap on the ifonz icon in programs, I'm getting this message
"This application requires a newer version of the Microsof .NET compact framework than the version installed on this device"
so I downloaded the .net framework 3.5 and copied to my storage card. After when I tap on NETCFSetupv35.msi, I'm getting the following message
"There is no application associated with "NETCFSetupv35". Run the application first, then open this file from within the application"
So, if I run the application I'm getting the first message, now this message, how can I solve this problem?
Thanks
sj
any one, please help me on this....
You probably downloaded the exe version of the .net compact framework. You will need to install this through your desktop computer. Meaning you need to connect your device to pc via Activesync and then run the msi file on your pc. It should install this on your device automatically.
Refer to thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405258
Let me know how it works.
HTC elf
I have downloaded the ifonz on my htc elf qvga but the visual is too big.

Did you download the qvga version ? Or the vga , wvga version which would make the visual too big.
Sorry if this doesn't make complete sense. This is new to me.
We are looking at a product from www.transplantgps.com, but the problem is the device comes with .NET CF 2.0. I don't have a problem with it being Windows CE 5, but not having CF 3.5 and the SQL 3.5 components built into the OS is a problem. The device doesn't use FLASH for the OS partition so when you reset the device you lose any changes and I lose the CF 3.5 that I installed.
I am working with them on trying to get these cabs as part of the main firmware/os:
NETCFv35.wm.armv4i.cab - .NET Compact Framework 3.5
sqlce.ppc.wce5.armv4i.cab - SQL Compact 3.51 Core
sqlce.repl.ppc.wce5.armv4i.cab - SQL Compact 3.51 Replication and OLEDB
This would need to be the wce version of NETCF. We don't need CF 2.0 just the 3.5 version.
Right now they are telling me that their firm in China doesn't know how to do this. What I am looking for is to see if this is even possible.
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Eric
If i'm not mistaken... yes, the problem is then compatibility with .net cf 2. If 2 is built in you can always install 3.5 via cab but you have problems trying to do it the other way around.

Thanks, this would pretty much be a custom device, so to not have 2.0 is not a big deal.
Hi there
Not sure how to find out/identify which version of the .NET Framework is installed on my TD2. Can anyone one advise on this, and if I am running v2 is it advised to install v3.5?
Also, if I should install v3.5 then how do I do this on the phone? I assume a .CAB needs to be loaded onto the phone and then run, and if this is the case then where do I get it from as all I can find is a 33.5Mb .msi from Microsoft.
Any assistance will be very much appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. I did search before posting but found nothing suitable in terms of information about this.
Cannot use ActiveSync as I get an 8nnnnnnnn error code which I am trying to sort out. Is there any other way?
Actually belay that last post as I have managed to find the NetCF 3.5 CAB. The following post has a download link to it and so I should be able to use that rather than the .msi & ActiveSync:

What I still do not know is how to tell which version of .NET Framework I have installed by default.
Go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETCompactFramework (this is usually the first entry)
or
tap file cgacutil.exe, in \Windows

Hi rspillo
Many thanks for the response. That is just what I was looking for and as a result I now know that I have v2.0 installed.
Would you be able to advise me on the following:
1. Should I upgrade to v3.5?
2. Are there any disadvantages to doing so OR not doing?
3. If so then how do I do that? Do I need to uninstall v2.0 and then install
v3.5 or can I just install v3.5 over the top of v2.0?
Many thanks in advance for any further advice and guidance that you can provide...and:

1. Install NetCF3.5 on your ppc, you find it easy on the internet
2. With a registry editor go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETCompactFramework
4. When you open this you'll see all the .NET installed version change the DWORD value of 2.0.xxxx from 1 to 0
5. Chang the DWORD value of 3.5.xxxx from 0 to 1.
6. Reboot
NetCF 3.5 is important because many programs required it [es. AdvancedConfigTool v.3.3 ecc. ecc.]

Hi all
I have attached two .cab files.
1) .Net CF 3.5 Messages resource. This is needed for some applications.
2) .Net CF Config application. This allows you to change application policies (i.e. which version to use) and the device policy.
Cheers
andrew-in-woking
Hi Andrew
Thanks for the reply.
Have already managed to change the application policies via a Registry tweak, ie, v2 off & v3.5 on, etc, but am not sure what the impact of the device policy and why I would need to change it, etc. Would you be able to illuminate me on this and if it is really necessary.
I am also unclear a to whether I really need the .Net CF 3.5 Messages resource. Have so far not noticed any issues so again I am asking as to whether I really need to install this and what is the impact if I do?
Lastly, can these .CABs be installed to the SD card or must they be installed on the Device...the latter I suspect but think it best to always check just in case.
Apologies for all the questions but I am a newbie and being cautious.
Cheers

hello all
i've recently upgraded my ROM (HTC P3400i aka GENE)
when ever i try to install the .net framework on it it shows me error saying that a newer version is already installed but i have never installed it
also my .net files are also not working on it
here are some screenshots of the installation
plz if possible help me out
i've installed rom from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=604370
Start File Explorer. Browse to \Windows\CGAUTIL.EXE and run it.
It will list all versions of the .NET CF framework installed on your device. Every Smartphone or PPC already has one version of the .NET CF in ROM.
Post the image of that.

no such file available
Sorry, should be \WINDOWS\CGACUTIL.EXE
no such file available
i even tried to search
may be because i am using a non official ROM
should i try to flash another ROM?
You may have to flash another ROM to cure it. As a rough guide, .Net CF 1/1.1 was in WM2003/SE, 2.0 was in WinMo 5.0 , 3.0 was in WinMo 6.0 and 3.5 appears in WinMo 6.5.
They are 'supposed' to be backwardly compatible, but there are a lot of ifs and buts. I have .NET CF 1.1 programs that run quite happily on later versions, but I might have been just plain lucky!
also if the file is hidden explore may not show it try using a better file manager like total commander or reso
all right got it
it was hidden i guess so
thnx Rudegar for your comment
OK here is the screenshot for the

That message says that you already have .NET CF 3.5 installed on your device. The numbers following the 3.5 are build numbers, used by installations to detect later versions etc, hence the original message when you tried to install 3.5 above.
As mentioned earlier all devices have one .NET CF version already installed in the ROM.
It should work, even with programs created against previous versions, but, as I said, it is not an exact science. I'll see if I can come up with anything.
What .NET apps are you trying to run and what is the error/problem they present?
thnx stephj for your reply

Right, this could be one of the weird things mentioned above.
The GENE was originally a WM 5.0 .NET CF 2.0 device. It appears the ROM you have flashed has .NET CF 3.5 installed in it as a minimum, preventing the retro installation of .NET CF 2.0, which is a stated requirement of the BTMusic software. It should work under 3.5, but maybe it's one of those that won't.
It may be considered a retrograde step, but it may be necessary to reflash the original ROM, in order to get it to work, or hang around until the software gets upgraded to .NET CF 3.5
Either of them are hardly ideal solutions.............
Anybody else any good ideas?...................
i hope i'll have to reinstall another OS lol
