Hi there
Not sure how to find out/identify which version of the .NET Framework is installed on my TD2. Can anyone one advise on this, and if I am running v2 is it advised to install v3.5?
Also, if I should install v3.5 then how do I do this on the phone? I assume a .CAB needs to be loaded onto the phone and then run, and if this is the case then where do I get it from as all I can find is a 33.5Mb .msi from Microsoft.
Any assistance will be very much appreciated.
Merry Festive Season.

Thanks for the reply. I did search before posting but found nothing suitable in terms of information about this.
Cannot use ActiveSync as I get an 8nnnnnnnn error code which I am trying to sort out. Is there any other way?
Actually belay that last post as I have managed to find the NetCF 3.5 CAB. The following post has a download link to it and so I should be able to use that rather than the .msi & ActiveSync:

What I still do not know is how to tell which version of .NET Framework I have installed by default.
Go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETCompactFramework (this is usually the first entry)
or
tap file cgacutil.exe, in \Windows

Hi rspillo
Many thanks for the response. That is just what I was looking for and as a result I now know that I have v2.0 installed.
Would you be able to advise me on the following:
1. Should I upgrade to v3.5?
2. Are there any disadvantages to doing so OR not doing?
3. If so then how do I do that? Do I need to uninstall v2.0 and then install
v3.5 or can I just install v3.5 over the top of v2.0?
Many thanks in advance for any further advice and guidance that you can provide...and:

1. Install NetCF3.5 on your ppc, you find it easy on the internet
2. With a registry editor go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETCompactFramework
4. When you open this you'll see all the .NET installed version change the DWORD value of 2.0.xxxx from 1 to 0
5. Chang the DWORD value of 3.5.xxxx from 0 to 1.
6. Reboot
NetCF 3.5 is important because many programs required it [es. AdvancedConfigTool v.3.3 ecc. ecc.]

Config app
Hi all
I have attached two .cab files.
1) .Net CF 3.5 Messages resource. This is needed for some applications.
2) .Net CF Config application. This allows you to change application policies (i.e. which version to use) and the device policy.
Cheers

Hi Andrew
Thanks for the reply.
Have already managed to change the application policies via a Registry tweak, ie, v2 off & v3.5 on, etc, but am not sure what the impact of the device policy and why I would need to change it, etc. Would you be able to illuminate me on this and if it is really necessary.
I am also unclear a to whether I really need the .Net CF 3.5 Messages resource. Have so far not noticed any issues so again I am asking as to whether I really need to install this and what is the impact if I do?
Lastly, can these .CABs be installed to the SD card or must they be installed on the Device...the latter I suspect but think it best to always check just in case.
Apologies for all the questions but I am a newbie and being cautious.
Cheers

Upgraded XDA2 running 2003 to an XDA Mini S running 2005. Programmes that I previously had running on 2003 (Amirsys/Elsevier -Pocket Radiologist series). Despite many suggestions and help from Elseviers techies in St Louis they now think it's an incompatibility that cannot be overcome. Has anyone any experience of patches etc or are these programmes now completely useless.
Having said that, I find the functionality of 2005 good with calls made and taken whilst running TomTom 5.21 - which is a vast improvement!
I think the only way is to watch out for a new version which is WM 5 compatible.
But I don't understand how u can make an XDA 2 to an XDA mini s with an rom upgrade? I think u mean something different.
cu
No. I've changed my XDA2 to an XDA Mini S (wizard) which is why I'm now using WM5. Kind of wish I'd stuck with WM3.
Looked in profiles but no option for newer phones

Hello k.griffin (& anyone else who is trying to get the Amirsys soft running under WM5),
I have some "older" programs that won't run on my new Wizard as well (including your example of Amirsys Pocket Radiologist, and, e.g. a PPC dictation program). I think this is an issue for everyone trying to migrate software to WM5 devices, and it is primarily associated with the new flash architecture of WM5.
I posted some questions regarding the Pocket Radiologist software to Elsevier, too. They said a WM5 version is being prepared but nothing has happend for quite a while now.
Interestingly, I have read forum posts that claim that by chance some people had discovered this software (and several other programs that usually can't cope with the WM5 flash architecture) will run after installing the "Arabizer" suite. This is said to be associated with changes in flash memory handling when this peculiar package is installed.
So my question to everyone who is familiar with WM5 and its memory structure: how plausible is that (at the moment I am thinking of ~1% ) ? I am rather unwilling to check it out blindly, because I am not fond of getting into long hours of installing and uninstalling tools for arabic character sets [that I don't need..] in vain..
Can anybody provide some statements on that ?
there is a hack for pocketradiologist so it work with wm5,
let me search it in my harddisk and will post it,but its seem its illegal
Arabizer
I installed Arabizer, but it doesn't makes a difference !
Who has the magical hack or can fix it in the registry ?

AFAIK the file "MSDAERES.DLL" is part of M$ VB runtime for PPC.
I will try to install it on my PDA this afternoon and let you know.
cheers.
I was able to install pocket radiologist without any problem.
First I installed ADOCE.WM5.CAB, then READER APPLICATION.PPC_2577.CAB and CHEST 100.PPC_2577.CAB.
It's quite good except the radiographs are quite small on PDA screen.
What operating system is on your PDA?
cheers.

Hi ttangcho,
thanks for replying. My operating system is WM5. My pda is a qtek 9000 with Spanish Rom. I tried making a soft reset before installing it, and later I tried a hard reset getting the same message in both actions.
I first tried to install ADOCEforMIMSonPDA from WM5 file but i got that message. So couldn´t keep on going.
What would you recomend me?
Thanks in advance buddy

I'm using WM5 WWE and I installed it after hard reset.
Try to install Ms VB Runtime on your device first. This VB runtime includes "MSDAERES.DLL". I hope this work. By the way, I installed it successfully without VB runtime.

Good to hear that you were able to install the program. VB runtime is way too big to put in the main memory. If you want to install VB runtime on the RAMdisk or SD card, do the followings.
1. Create "\RAMdisk\Windows" directory
2. Open your reg edit program and add \RAMdisk\Windows\ in the SystemPath
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Loader]
"SystemPath"=\RAMdisk\Windows\ \Windows\..............
(Note. this is Multi_SZ)
or you can cut and paste the following and add to your registry.
----------------------------------------------------
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Loader]
"SystemPath"=hex(7):5c,5c,52,41,4d,64,69,73,6b,5c,5c,57,69,6e,64,6f,77,73,5c,\
5c,00,5c,5c,77,69,6e,64,6f,77,73,5c,5c,6f,65,6d,5c,5c,00,5c,5c,52,65,6c,65,\
61,73,65,5c,5c,00,00,00,00
----------------------------------------------------
3. Soft Reset using SOFTWARE or power off and on couple of times and soft reset using your stylus.
4. Install VB run time on your RAMdisk.
This is how I did in order to install VB Runtime (3MB) and M$ .NET Compact platform 2.0 SP1(2.2MB) on the RAMdisk.
Cheers!

thanks you all buddies, it worked, at the end, but worked!!!
now i can go with all pocket radiologist on my handheld device, it´s really amazing!!!

Hi, the link is not working any more,.
any one who can upload it again please, or another link to download it,,???
I've got a Vogue with Sprint running the official 6.1 OS.
Lately I've been having issues running certain apps. The new Facebook app and ComicReader 1.5.2 are the latest examples. Launching the application gets me this error message:
The application failed to load required components. If the .NET Compact Framework is installed on a storage card, please ensure that this card is in place and launch the application again. If this fails, a re-installation of the .NET Compact Framework is recommended. Support info: -2147479552 (80001000).
I have uninstalled .NET CF 3.5 through Remove Programs, but when I try to re-install, the device gives me the message:
The .NET Compact Framework version you are attempting to install already exists in ROM.
Then the installer exits.
Any thoughts on how I can get this fixed?
When you install the .net compact framework it sets a registry setting saying it is enabled and i think this is that it looks for when trying to install.
Try deleting this from the registry:
"\local machine\software\microsoft\netcompactframework"
after deleting, reinstall

Well, it sort of did the trick. It worked for the two apps mentioned (facebook and comicreader) but now fails with the same error message when I try to launch FSD dialer which I just downloaded and re-installed.
sigh
~~Update: I've also discovered that I get 4 of these errors pop up on a soft reset now. I have no idea what's throwing them because so far I haven't noticed any startup items that do not work. It could be a latency issue I suppose, but I did install .NET on the device, not a storage card.
Well this is getting serious. I've uninstalled and reinstalled .NET but it's not helping. Although some programs that didn't work now do, several others like GWatch, GAlarm, DiamondTV, PianoNM, and a notepad application now do not work, and I get the same error. I find two of these missing component errors on the phone every morning, and four of them on every soft reset.
Please someone tell me I'm not looking at a hard reset...
AJ
Try this:
There is a Compact Framework 3.5 powertoy named '.Net Configuration' (see cab below). The application provides control over the .net CF on your device. Here's what you do:
- Install the CAB below (to internal memory!)
- Run '.Net Configuration' from your Start Menu
- Navigate to the 'Device Policy' tab and select version 3.5
- Select 'Apply' then 'OK'
This has worked for other issues like yours.
Yay! All better now. Thanks!
If you have problems after that config it may be your rom. Some roms have registry settings built into them and restorethem on a softreset.... just a heads up
i was having the same problem with proven 1.12 rom for touch pro and following your above advised solved the problem.
Thanks Joel once again.
Run \Windows\cgacutil.exe on your device and it will pop up a window that lists the version(s) of the .NET CF installed on your device. I assume it stands for CompactGlobalAssemblyCacheUtility, and probably reads the stuff straight out of the registry. Easier than hacking about in the there anyway.
cannot install .netconfig

there are a few versions depending on your processor type.
i will edit this post with a link to all NETCF3.5 cabs in a minute.

That's rubbish. All .NetCF versions are for all PPC. Besides WM6.1 on the omnia has .NetCFv2 built in...
U can check the installed versions and assign them with this little app.
Dirk
all this does is let you switch the default framework.
different types of frameworks depending on the cpu might have an effect if he's having problems.
After updating to this (WM6.1 Std. 5.2.1238.19208) cooked ROM, everything looking good.
But most of my installation CABs wont install because of "Installation was unsuccessful" error. Ive tried app unlocks with about 3 variations of Security/Policies settings, without success.
Have somebody the same complication or even solution?
Thanks in advance for any information.
I have no such problem. Today I installed all my programs from cab-files without any problems.
Try reinstall WM6.1 and use SDA Aplication Unlock.
actually, there is no problem. But when I wanna install .Net CF 3.5, yes there is a problem. I can't install it, err msg: please close other application, maximum the storage capacity. I just flash the rom and nothing was installed yet, so it totally empty (the storage). But when I install the .Net CF 2.0, it works. Does anyone have the same problem?
Why do you install .Net Framework 3.5? WM6.1 already has it.
hehehehe... shame of me... I don't know that... but thanks for telling.. , so looks like I have to uninstall the .NET CF 2.0..? Right?
I think it's better to do Hard Reset.
Maybe most 6.1 do, but my touch pro wm 6.1 came with net 2.0 and i have to install 3.5 after a hard reset. I install it then do the reg edit found here: http://pocketnow.com/how-to/tutorial-how-to-upgrade-to-microsoft-net-compact-framework-35
"(HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETCompactFramework) Change the DWord value of 3.5.7283.00 from 0 to 1 (thus enabling it) and all the other values (i.e.: 2.0.7045.00) from 1 to 0 (thus disabling it/them)."
As for the not being able to install a cab... I am having a similar problem.
I cannot install ANY cab. There is no programs in the uninstall programs list. (There should be around 10 programs there?!?) AND I cant seem to delete any files (get a access denied error) all I have tried to delete so far is a couple of cab files) Tried with File Explorer and Total Commander.
Does anyone have any Ideas??
Just did a hard reset. installed: task manager, advanced config, clean ram, FIM(facebook program), google maps, HTC GPS tool, phm regedit, Total commander, touch in call screen tweek,, and pocket digital clock. (above in no order) The last program I installed was Clean ram. I'm no expert but I do know my way around WM and I am totally lost on this. Is there anyway to fix this without another Hard Reset??
edit: Just gonna do a hard reset. I'll report back if I have this problem again. *sigh*
use sda unlock and you can install all you want

Install the attached Microsoft .Net Compact Framework v3.5. Also do the changes below :
Use a registry editor, go to path
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/.NETCompactFramework and change DWORD 2.0.7045.00 from 1 to 0 and DWORD 3.5.7283.00 from 0 to 1.
By these, you install version 3.5 and set it as default instead of 2.0
What is the deal with CF Net 3.7? Is it the latest CF or is it a bogus program?
i needed that as well. thanks
NET CF 3.7 is for real.......
Read this thread...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=525138
Have it in my custom Rom aswell.....never issues with running programmes....
Thanks for the replies, i figured out the problem, I needed to connect the phone to the PC using ActiveSync and then run the setup I downloaded to the PC.

Where can you find the Cab files? What are they called?
I'm having the same problem - I bought Droppedbox but I can't figure out how to get it to work on my HTC Diamond phone. It installed but won't run - I get the error that it needs a newer version of the .net compact framework. I installed a the 3.5 framwork on the PC (NETCFSetupv35.msi) with the phone connected, but it didn't install on the phone.
Not sure what to try next.
Use a registry editor, go to path
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/.NETCompactFramework and change DWORD 2.0.7045.00 from 1 to 0 and DWORD 3.5.7283.00 from 0 to 1.
this path is in the phone? sorry for being such a noob
It's worth noting that Dropbox installed and worked perfectly on my Android tab, and on my wife's iPad, and on her Blackberry, and on our PCs. But I still can't get it to work on my Windows Mobile phone. I guess that's why people buy Android or Apple phones these days.
Just saying.
