Can't get Bluetooth PAN WM to WM to work - General Questions and Answers
Hello everybody,
I'm trying to get on the internet with my Axim x51v.
And I'm using my Touch Cruise as BT PAN access point (using the Internet sharing option).
I've installer the widcomm bluetooth stack on my x51v, because the Microsoft stack cannot connect to a PAN.
Settings up the PAN connection works perfectly, the x51v even got his IP from the Cruise his DHCP.
But... when I'm trying to browse to a website, it goes wrong
Internet Explorer on the x51v gives the message: "The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again."
I also installed a network sniffer on the Cruise to check which data is send.
This sniffer views the DHCP request, no problem there.
But when I request a website, there are some ARP requests and responses.
AND... there are to packet who look like DNS requests to me, but there source address is the x51v's MAC address and th destination is the Cruise, and there's never a response.
So... I tried to connect to a website by IP instead of hostname, to check if this is a DNS problem, but without any luck
But there is a difference, the sniffer now only shows the ARP requests and responses and Internet Explorer gives a different message: "The page cannot be displayed or donwloaded because the connection was lost. Check the connection and try again later."
Sorry for the long story... I hope someone can help me with this problem
Or point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance
did you try working with something other than the x51v?
btw, if you want to save yourself the headache, purchase WMWifiRouter..
I also tested this with my PC and Cruise and it worked perfectly. I was able to access the internet through the Cruise.
Forgot to mention that I did try WMWifiRouter, but got the same problem.
edit:
Maybe its usefull to know that the x51v is running WM6.1 (from Football) and the Cruise is running the official WM6.1 ROM from HTC.
Maybe someone knows another way to access the internet on the x51v through the Cruise.
I did also try the Wifi to 3G option from WMWifiRouter. At first the connection was to unstable to browse, but this problem seems to be solved by holding the Cruise further away from the x51v . But with a distance of almost 3 meters the connection still isn't stable enough, it reconnect about every minute.
And I think a distance of 3 meters between the two devices is to much.
Would it be possible to share the Cruise his internet connection over USB?
My idea is to do this using this CF USB card for the x51v.
if the polaris can read your device as a regular syncing device (like a pc or so) there's no reason why WMWifirouter won't pass your Polaris' 3G or Wifi connection to USB connection on your x51v.
I found another solution!
I (re)enabled DUN on the Cruise (throught the registry) and let the x51v dail in on the Cruise.
At first it wouldn't work, but after some messing with some settings it finally worked!
Thanks for your replies Nir36.
ahh. congrats. and a good idea it is.
if you don't mind, write the exact steps of what you did so i can put it in the GUIDES thread in the Q&A section.
Ok, here's what I did.
First to Enable DUN, which was removed since the introduction of internet sharing. (On the Cruise)

Internet access through USB (Activesync) on work network (via proxy)
HI all, I'm experiencing the following problem with my Cruise. When having the Cruise connected to my PC through USB cable (Activesync on), mobile applications other than IE cannot access the Internet. My configuration is: on ActiveSync my computer is connected to: "work network" on the Cruise start > parameters > connections > connections advanced tab > network selection is set to work network for both types of networks proxy configuration on the other tab is the correct one for my network The only application on the Cruise capable of connecting the Internet with this configuration is IE: when starting, it asks for proxy username & password and pages are loaded correctly. Any other application (the HTC today screen, when looking for the meteo data, Opera, QuickGPS...) do not arrive to connect the Internet falling in timeout (no request for proxy authentication). Of course, at home (ActiveSync configured as connected to the Internet) everything work fine and all applications connect to the Internet w/o problems. Any idea? Thanks
Hi all.... ive got pretty much the problem? Any solutions guys??
Pretty much same here, except for QuickGPS... it manages to connect somehow.
it works for me, but without proxy...
Maybe this would help you? Hey Wis38! Just try to open the following ports ins your proxy: 990 (RAPI) 999 (Status) 5721 (DTPT) 5678 (Legacy Replication) 5679 (Handshake & Legacy Replication) 26675 (Airsync) For further informations try the MS kb259369 and kb904667. btw, good luck Frank
Yeah, thanks. But I'm not proxy administrator, and can't open those ports... Any other ideas?
Ask your admin Hmm... I think then you have to ask aour admin... Frank
try this I had the same problem you can try this http://www.mobilitysite.com/boards/activesync/137666-fix-unknown-error-0x80072f78.html
How can I use my Polaris like USB modem to connect Notebook on internet. Is there some application or something like that? Thanks.
try this one on your device, go to start menu > programs > internet sharing choose which connection you want to use (USB or BT) then press connect if you choose USB, plug the USB cable to both PC and device immediately after connetion established. if you choose BT (you have to make sure that your device have been paired to the computer), connect to your device through BT network access in internet sharing mode, all activesync connection will be disconnected
there is a registry hack for windows to fix this issue, but normally the issue also effects syncing. But the bad news is that itsmore then likley that your network admin has locked down this type of access.
only IE keeps working via proxy. Other 3rd party apps seem to prefer a direct connection ignorinng how windows settings are actually used to reach the Internet
I have exactly the same problem: IE can reach the Internet via the proxy in our work network and other apps like QuickGPS cannot. Strangely enough this happens only with my HTC Touch cruise and does not happen with my Fujitsu Loox N560, which has exactly the same settings. I have to note that I upgraded recently to WM 6.1 on the TC and that with WM6 it used to work Any ideas
same problem for me... (qtek S200 & win 6.1)
Couldn't get to Internet using Bluetooth PAN
I have treo 750v, WM6. I have done the procedure below: 1. Pairing my device with the laptop via Bluetooth. 2. On my Treo, clicked start > internet connection sharing > chosing bluetooth pan > click connect. 3. Device told me to activate Bluetooth on my PC. then I activated my Bluetooth PAN on my laptop. (I'm having BlueSoleil bluetooth manager installed on my laptop). 4. Treo said "Connected". My BlueSoleil manager said connected with an animation showing a link between my device and laptop icons. It even showed some message of its assigned IP address, etc. But, i can not connect to internet on my laptop. I did ping to google, it said "Request time out". Very weird, because when I choose USB Cable to do internet connection sharing, the connection is working seamlessly, i can connect to internet, good ping to google or any other sites, but not with BT PAN. Please advice what to check, what to do, etc.. thanks
no replies yet, i hope someone will read and provide some suggestion for my problem. thanks
How about using the Windows' bluetooth manager? My bluetooth places -> entire bluetooth neighborhood -> right click on your device name -> connect Network Access Point I use this method every time and it always works. Rgds,
hapmas77 said: How about using the Windows' bluetooth manager? My bluetooth places -> entire bluetooth neighborhood -> right click on your device name -> connect Network Access Point I use this method every time and it always works. Rgds, Click to expand... Click to collapse I tried it just now as you suggested. it then says network connected. but then i cant connect to the internet from my laptop. so i back to using the USB cable, and it works flawlessly. i wonder where's the missing key???
Two things: 1. With the Windows bluetooth, once the devices are paired and a connection is established (Internet Sharing on the Treo), goto the little bluetooth icon in the systray and right-click on it. Click on the "Quick Connect" menu and select "Network Access". Once you have clicked on "Network Access" you should see your phone listed (my 750 shows as the name I entered for "Owner Information"). Select your phone and that should do it. These steps are similar to the ones I use for my Macbook as well. 2. Regarding BlueSoleil Manager: when I lasted used it I remember having to set up the serial ports manually so they could be used for communication between the desktop and the phone. I haven't used the BlueSoleil since I had a Treo 650, but I still have the software. I'll load it up and see if I can't help you with your problem. Regards, idyllic
So I got to work and loaded up BlueSoleil on a system running MS Server 2003 SP2. The bluetooth dongle I'm using is a TRENDnet TBW-101UB V2 with BlueSoleil version 1.4.9.2 build 041108, stack version 04.03.15.20041105. I paired my stock AT&T Treo 750 to the machine. Started "Internet Sharing" on the Treo making sure to select bluetooth pan and the AT&T network Once this was done I right-clicked on my phone icon in the BlueSoleil Manager and select "Connect." The I choose the "Bluetooth Personal Area Networking Service" and open a web browser to test... so far its worked every time. Some notes: 1. The internet sharing on the treo isn't instant, give 20 seconds or so to fully connect. 2. The BlueSoleil manager connects even slower... give it 30 seconds. 3. Try repairing the phone. 4. If using the BlueSoleil software, disable the windows bluetooth as the MAY be a conflict there. Basically use one or the other. I'm not sure if any of this is going to help, but I hope it puts you on the right track. Regards, idyllic
Bluetooth dun error 678
I have migrated from a Nokia E90 to the Touch Pro. I am a veteran Windows Mobile user, ever since the days of Windows CE, through Pocket PC 2003, 2003SE, 2005 and WM5. I have a problem - I would like to use Bluetooth DUN to connect my laptop to the net. I used to do this with my Nokia E90 using *99#, so I know my phone provider will provide it. I can connect successfully using Internet Sharing over Bluetooth, but not using Bluetooth DUN. I get error code 678. I need to use Bluetooth DUN as I need to keep use the Bluetooth PAN on the laptop available to connect to my main computer. Has anyone successfully connected via Bluetoot DUN yet? COuld you try it and let me know?
I've got the same problem. Fine on all previous phones. Now this one gives me this error. Anyone solved it? LLOYDY
Hi Guys! Can you help with this problem? I've got this same issue. It's really annoying. I Can't also set up bluetooth connection between TP and my PC (Windows Vista). Any idea?
See whether this can help. http://www.windowsmobilecool.com/20...ows-smartphone-to-a-windows-pc-via-bluetooth/ My TP can do the BT DUN from my notebook now, but the problem is that it will disconnect after a short while. I am still trying to find out where is the timeout settings.
I did not look at the link but it looks like you guys have missed the apn information out of your extra initialisation commands for your modem
Ice_coffee: 'apn information out of your extra initialisation commands for your modem' Can you provide those info ? And where to use it ?
I think this URL provide more detail, it works for me. http://www.ppcsg.com/lofiversion/index.php/t94416.html Go to the Device Manager, select properties of the Bluetooth Modem, click on the Advanced tab, paste the following string on the Extra initialization commands: AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet","" Try to establish Dial Up again, use the following for the dialup dialogue box, User name: Your Mobile No. [eg. 6591234567] Password: 65IDEAS [I used this for Singtel] Dial: *99# This settings works for me.
excellent instructions here http://www.filesaveas.com/gprsconnect.html#laptop including pictures, showing just which settings need adding on your laptop, just copy and paste the gdcont info into the setup screen for your htc usb modem, as per the instructions, you will have to change the apn to the one for your provider. Guide!! Using your WM6.1 device as access point via your router
Hello This guide is made up from the knowledge i have build up from advice given on XDA and information on other sites. I have found this very useful in my home and hope you do to. First off, this guide explains everything you need to do to use your diamond as the access point to the internet at home for all devices. (PC's, PS3, XBOX360, Wii) It is highly recommended that you have a unlimited data allowance!!!!! Otherwise you could have a hefty bill at the end of the month. Right what you will need : A WM6.1 Device (I used a Diamond) with an unlimited data allowance tariff, A WiFi router (i have used an old router that was installed with Tiscali BB) WMWifiRouter version 0.80 (please find this your self i will not provide it) and some basic knowledge of networking on PC's and your devices. Thats it. Please don't be put off by the networking side of things its really easy to do. Right first off we need to get your diamond taking to your router. switch on your router and let it do its thing for 2-4 mins Connect your diamond to the wifi router by switching on your wifi in settings, communications on touchflow, when prompted, connect to your router and enter your network key. THIS IS THE SAME PROCESS AS CONNECTING TO A WIFI HOTSPOT. Its that simple. Next switch off your wifi in settings, communications. Install WMWifiRouter version 0.80 (Simple and stable) once installed open WMWifiRouter and press connect. This should then setup your phone to be used as a access point and connect to your wireless network all at once. Once it says connected you can turn off your phones main screen by pressing the off switch at the top and put your phone where there is best signal! HSDPA is needed to get up 7.2mbps (little H in signal area) Right now you need to setup your laptop or device to talk to the phone via your router! So here are the settings you need to setup in either TCP/IP (manual connection) or a manual connection on your device (PS3, Wii, XBOX360). I will use a laptops connection as a example because all you need to do is to copy the settings to another device using a different IP address. If you use wifi or a hardwired connection, right click the telly with the wifi connection in the bottom right of the screen and click open network connections (XP only dont know for vista), Or if the telly is not displayed in the bottom righthand cornner of the task bar then click start, control panel, network connections. Click on the connection you wish to use i.e local area connection or wireless network connection (you can setup both connections by repeating these steps on each connection) this should bring up a general tab of this connection, click properties. This will bring up another box with the network properties, all you need to do is manually enter your IP settings and DNS settings so double click on "internet protocol [TCP/IP]" Another box appears. Click "use the following IP address" In IP address type "192.168.0.xxx" xxx being the unique 3 digit code of your choice, write this down for your firewall settings on other devices if you run a networked drive etc. Each new device will need its own unique 3 digit code ie PC = 192.168.0.100, XBOX360 = 192.168.0.200, Wii = 192.168.0.123 etc. In Subnet mask type "255.255.255.0" In Default gate way type "192.168.0.1 Now click "Use the following DNS server address" In preferred DNS server type "192.168.0.1" Thats it, press ok and ok on any other boxes still left open. Your network device will rest your IP and DNS settings to the ones you have just entered, thus allowing you computer to access the mobiles phones internet connection via your router On all your devices Manually setup all your connections using these settings and they will all use your mobile phone to connect to the internet. Using DHCP to configure your network is not advised as its unreliable at finding your phones connection. Now if you want to start using your phone as a phone again, open up WMWifiRouter again if its not already and click options Quit. To get internet access on other devices via your phone again all you need to do is to start WMWifiRouter and press connect. Start using the internet!!! If you wish to use your laptop on another hotspot, you will need to reset the TCP/IP settings back to automatic, otherwise it will not work. Using this process sometimes causes the phone to disable its own internet connection, so a soft reset after exiting WMWifiRouter is recommended. Have fun, im sorry if its all a little messy but i have never been very good at writing these guides. If any modd wants to add or edit this post then please feel free. any persons wanting to add to this guide please do so. Yes i know you can connect your phone to your laptop by USB, Bluetooth, but this method allows multiple devices to use the same phone to access the internet at the same time and via a access point at the highest possible speed, so games consoles can use it!!! Brilliant if you get a good HSDPA signal and live in the country. Oh one last thing! if you are a youngster and wish to try this, please do so on other equipment, don't use your family's main router and laptop or PC unless its no longer in use!!! Thank You
[Q]Share PC's internet connection With PPC using Bluetooth (not via activesync)
Hope the title says everything about my problem. HTC P3452 (ELFIN) using a custom 6.1 ROM(with the default MS BT stack) Windows XP Professional SP3 using Widcomm BT stack UTSTARCOM router to connect to the internet. My problem: I want to use bluetooth as the primary medium of connection between PC and PPC . By 'connection'; I only mean efficient file sharing and internet connection sharing (only from PC to PPC; not the other way round; 'cause I don't have a GPRS/EDGE data plan on my PPC) MS Activesync does both of these (but not very efficiently) , and there are a lot tutorials on how to connect PC and PPC using Bluetooth and then sync them using Activesync. But as everyone knows, being the crappiest software ever Activesync often auto-disconnects, even if the PC and PPC are still connected by bluetooth . Using the ready-made solutions provided by the Widcomm Software, it's very easy to share files, as the MS stack supports FTP. The Widcomm software also offers a service named "My network access" and creates a Bluetooth LAN connection on PC; and those were supposed to be able to establish a LAN connection between PC and PPC over Bluetooth, but it doesn't . (The MS BT stack of Windows Mobile doesn't enable PAN by default. I used a hack by some user of this forum (wm6btpan) . But that doesn't seem to solve the problem either, although it enables me to use my PPC as a remote control.. ) So at this point, I need your help in establishing the connection between the PC and PPC so that the PPC can use PC's internet connection. For the last 1.5 days I have searched nearly hundreds of resources but nowhere found a complete solution working for a HTC Touch. If , with your help ,I can get my setup going, then I promise to put up a full fledged tutorial on how to do this... Hoping early response.. Bst0602
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=InternetOverBluetoothNetwork read this?
as I ve already written , I 've already gone through hundreds of threads in different forums, and it was definitely one of them.. the last few instructions are.. # Tap the Bluetooth icon and tap the link saying <u>Bluetooth Manager</u>. # Tap the starred Bluetooth icon. # Tap the Join a personal network. # Select Join a personal network option and tap Next. # After your Connection Wizard sees your computer, select it and select Finish so that your HTC Creates a shortcut for this connection named Network with '?InsertYourComputersNameHere'. Please note that there is no need for a secure/encrypted connection. # Double tap or hold and select Connect to the Network with '?InsertYourComputersNameHere' to make a connection with your access point. # At this point or later, your HTC will ask you if this connection is a Work or Internet connection. I have chosen this as my Work connection. But in HTC TOUCH there is no "bluetooth manager" or "join a personal network option" (probably they were in WM5). So this wiki doesn't help much.. anyway thanks for your response.
no one else interested ?
hey.. forum veterans.. please respond...
still no one ? forum mod, can u please move it to the elfin forum ?
