I have the pantech pn-820, and the manual says I can send an MMS like a text message if I don't have an internet connection setup. Note: I did not setup one on my phone.
The Internet Connection is set to Automatic, so I can't turn it off! I just want to use basic pix/txt messaging and sync my outlook calendar appointments. No wireless connection needed for this.
I think it is ridiculous that I would get charged kb usage for something I never got charged for before.
How do I:
Disable the MMS Client (which uses internet to send MMS messages)
Enable regular MMS messaging
Disable Internet Connection, or alter the registry so I can choose if it is on or off.
Any or all of these would be awesome. I have been looking through the registry quite extensively, but am not sure which values I need to change/add/delete to make this work.
Thanks!

I use c_shekhar 3.5c rom, all seems good, but used for some time, SMS DONOT alert automate after I turn the Hima off or the device timeout for off.
Then I check the entire software install processes, after installing a software, test the SMS auto alert. When done, SMS auto alert works fine.
Final, I setting up MMS, I am using China Mobile, I setting up GPRS and WAP connections, setting up MMS server, test it ok. At THIS TIME, SMS auto alert dead.
Somebody meet this situation......
pls give me some advice, thanks!
Any way for WM6.1 messaging to auto resend SMS/MMS if the message is originally sent when there is no phone connection and it is later restored?
I used to have a Motorola phone that prompted something like "Data connection not available. Do you wish to resend when connection is restored?" This would resend it if there was a connection without any actions from me.
I travel in places with no connection (like in subway). With my Moto, i was able to write a text message, set it for auto send, and would find that it would send if/when i momentarily had a connection while moving. This freed me from having to monitor my "bars" for a connection to send text.
I was wishing for the same thing. I've had 3 blackberries & the all do this. Pretty sad that WM6.1 doesn't.
Hello...
After putting a new ROM on my phone...I'm having a weird issue. First off, I've double and triple checked my settings and they match what gmail requires and how it was set before the new ROM. secondly, all other data services (weather updates, web browsing, phone class, SMS, etc.) are working perfectly.
But if I try to send an email or manually send/receive, my phone pops out a message from my data connection that says "cannot connect: cannot connect with current connection settings. to change your connection settings, tap settings." and then provides a settings link and dismiss button. The rom used the auto config for ATT which seems to have gotten everything else working as expected, but I simply cannot send / receive email.
If i login to gmail directly from opera, everything works fine - but i cannot receive updates right away - slightly annoying.
Where it gets even weirder is the gmail java app will not download or send messages either.
Does anyone have any idea what may be wrong? Would this be a rom specific issue - or is a configuration for my phone wrong?
Thanks in advance everyone
hate to bump...but just curious if anyone else has experienced anything like this.
thanks.
I'm assuming when you typed in your Gmail address, Windows stated it found the setting and configured everything for you. The problem is Windows configures your Internet connection to be "The Internet". Deep inside the Gmail settings their is an option to change this to "MEdia Net". This may be your problem.
Go to MENU, then TOOLS, then OPTIONS, then click on GMAIL. Then click on EDIT ACCOUNT SETUP, then NEXT 4X, then ADVANCED SERVER SETTINGS. Then change THE INTERNET to MEDIANET. Then some more dones, and nexts, and finish. Hopefully this is the problem for you.
I've had similar problems and got to the point where I suspect it is something to do with ActiveSync.
I could receive emails, but not send emails, unless I deleted my account and reset it up again (not ideal). I started to realise this happened after I had connected via USB to certain connections, i.e. not a charger and not a computer, for example a USB car charger. In these situations the message would pop up asking me what I wanted to connect as: ActiveSync, External Harddrive or whatever the other option is.
It seems to me like the phone wasn't getting the right message and was then getting itself very much confused.
Deleting the account and resetting it up helped. Eventually (last weekend) I have Hard reset.
I'm also careful about which USB connections I now use.
Don't know if this provides some insight or use?
UPDATE: THis just happened to me again and I should point out that I don't use gmail, it's my own domain mail hosted by EasySpace. I suspect the problem is HTC Touch Pro though. I have been listening to music on my Touch Pro with a USB multi connector (3.5mm + power + other USB) connected. Wrote an email and it wouldn't send. Disconnected the cable, still wouldn't send, stopped all running apps (Messenger, ActiveSyn, Windows Media), restarted Messenger and did a send receive. This time it worked.
For me this is definitely a dodgy ActiveSync issue.
Additional gmail problems
I've also had email problems using GMail. I originally set up my gmail account as a pop account (I have my own domain forwarded there) and wanted it to reflect my address as my domain. It originally connected and started downloading the emails. Then the account vanished! The emails are still there and taking up the first account slot in my TF3D, but when I go to accounts it is not listed. After a hard reset I restored with PPM backup and it placed the emails back in there, but still no account listed. I also can't open the emails, I just see the envelope icon with the preview of the last message downloaded. I've since added gmail as IMAP, but also had trouble with that in not being able to send emails. I deleted the account and then added again (IMAP) to try and by-pass the auto setup the phone does for GMail, but still no luck. What's worse, it's added this addition to the 3rd little envelope icon in TF3D, so now I have 1. Non-functioning account 2. Empty 3. Current IMAP
Anyone know where this data is stored so I can at least go clear out the first 2 slots so the current account being used will be the first one in the list? Also, anyone figure out the fix for sending emails? I'll try the advanced setting change from The Internet to MediaNet and see if that works. It's rather pointless having the emailing picture phone that you can't email pictures from!
Changed 'The Internet' to MediaNet, still no go on the sending.
Is there any way to disable the Att internet (MediaNet) but still be able to send and receive MMS messages?
I did search for this but I didn't find anything.
Internet
Strictly speaking, internet is required to send and receive mms messages. With most phones the profile that is used to connect to the internet is used to send and receive pictures and video. Now if you are wanting to disable internet on the phone except to send mms then that may be possible
NoData
Would NoData work for what you are wanting?
Hey all,
I have been searching and looking everywhere to find a way to set my send/receive schedule at a lesser interval than the standard 5 minutes.. I am wondering if anyone knows the reg keys or a way I can edit the registry to allow it to send and receive every minute or so?
Thankyou for any help.

Outlook has an option through active sync schedule to set item as they arrive.
I have tried using active sync for my email.. When I set it up the only way the email works is if I connect it to my pc via the cable. I don't receive any emails and if I try send one it just stays in the outbox until I plug it into the computer and sync it.
Maybe I am doing something wrong or missing something?
Exchange is the best way to do push email (which is essentially email under 5min intervals). Its available to regular (non-corporate) joes by buying a hosted exchange pkg from a provider. I use 4smartphone and love it but there are lots of others. About $10/mo and you get full fledged Exchange 2008 w web access too. Nothing better than baking your MSEX acct info into your rom, and after a hard reset ALL your contacts, sched, tasks AND email download automatically back into your phone in minutes. love it. You can also wipe it remotely if its ever stolen. I think the intervals for pop are somehow hard-coded into the program, not stored in the reg, but I could be wrong. I've looked for them.
Also, if you have less than an unlimited data plan, then push is more efficient then all the traffic of checking 1440 times a day...
