Exception: Could not establish connection to network - General Questions and Answers

Hi!
I developed a simple application using HttpWebRequest object ( 3-4 code rows
).
When I run it on emulator(or other devices) it works fine, while when I deploy it to my device
an error occurs: "Could not establish connection to network".
I have the same error when I try executing windows update service on the
device.
My device is connected with activesync and all other installed sw
(skype,messenger,opera..ecc...) on the device can access to internet
network.
I tried also using wifi connection, but the same error occurs.
The appication, also, doesn't try using GPSR connection. Why?
My settings are:
In Settings->connections->select network->I set both dropdown to "My work
Netwok". I tried with myISP,myInternet but the result doesn't change.
Which is the problem??
Help me...
Thanks
Sam.

It should work. In Settings->Connection->Connections->Advanced->Select Networks which brings up the Network Management screen, the top one 'connect to the internet should connect using' should be set to the connection used by your network provider for access to GPRS.
If the phone already has an active WiFi connection the program should use that, before trying to start GPRS if it is not already active. I have a UK Qtek 9100 (Wizard). On a hard reset, the OEM Vodafone software automatically sets up a 'Contract Internet' connection and makes it the default, in both Network management and Existing Connections.

Other applications use correctly wifi connection. Only that one i deploy with visual studio cannot access to internet (activesync,wifi,grps...nothing!!).
I developed the simplest application using HttpWebRequest:
I create new project(vs2008)->smart device project (c#)->CF 3.5->drag button control->on click event i write this:
/**begin**/
HttpWebRequest objRequest =
(HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create("http://www.opencellid.org/cell/get?mnc=1&mcc=2&lac=200&cellid=234");
HttpWebResponse objResponse = (HttpWebResponse)objRequest.GetResponse();
using (StreamReader reader = new
StreamReader(objResponse.GetResponseStream()))
{
result = reader.ReadToEnd();
}
/**end**/
When I run it on emulator or other devices it works fine, while when I deploy it to my device
an error occurs: "Could not establish connection to network".
I have the same error when I try executing windows update service on the
device.

The code should work, nothing apparantly wrong with it, but because it is .NET CF 3.5 you may have to use the connection manager method to get it to work. There have been subtle changes from one release of the CF to the next. Some of them drive you nuts, until you have figured out the differences. A similar app I wrote for the Qtek 9100, was written in VS2003 CF 1.1 and works without a hitch, no connection manager required. The gen about the connection manager, and how to use it is at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms879580.aspx

Internet access through USB (Activesync) on work network (via proxy)

HI all,
I'm experiencing the following problem with my Cruise.
When having the Cruise connected to my PC through USB cable (Activesync on), mobile applications other than IE cannot access the Internet.
My configuration is:
on ActiveSync
my computer is connected to: "work network"
on the Cruise
start > parameters > connections > connections
advanced tab > network selection is set to work network for both types of networks
proxy configuration on the other tab is the correct one for my network
The only application on the Cruise capable of connecting the Internet with this configuration is IE: when starting, it asks for proxy username & password and pages are loaded correctly.
Any other application (the HTC today screen, when looking for the meteo data, Opera, QuickGPS...) do not arrive to connect the Internet falling in timeout (no request for proxy authentication).
Of course, at home (ActiveSync configured as connected to the Internet) everything work fine and all applications connect to the Internet w/o problems.
Any idea?
Thanks
Hi all.... ive got pretty much the problem? Any solutions guys??
Pretty much same here, except for QuickGPS... it manages to connect somehow.
it works for me, but without proxy...
Maybe this would help you?
Hey Wis38!
Just try to open the following ports ins your proxy:
990 (RAPI)
999 (Status)
5721 (DTPT)
5678 (Legacy Replication)
5679 (Handshake & Legacy Replication)
26675 (Airsync)
For further informations try the MS kb259369 and kb904667.
btw, good luck
Frank
Yeah, thanks.
But I'm not proxy administrator, and can't open those ports...
Any other ideas?
Ask your admin
Hmm...
I think then you have to ask aour admin...
Frank
try this
I had the same problem
you can try this

How can I use my Polaris like USB modem to connect Notebook on internet.
Is there some application or something like that?
Thanks.
try this one
on your device, go to start menu > programs > internet sharing
choose which connection you want to use (USB or BT) then press connect
if you choose USB, plug the USB cable to both PC and device immediately after connetion established.
if you choose BT (you have to make sure that your device have been paired to the computer), connect to your device through BT network access
in internet sharing mode, all activesync connection will be disconnected
there is a registry hack for windows to fix this issue, but normally the issue also effects syncing. But the bad news is that itsmore then likley that your network admin has locked down this type of access.
only IE keeps working via proxy.
Other 3rd party apps seem to prefer a direct connection ignorinng how windows settings are actually used to reach the Internet
I have exactly the same problem: IE can reach the Internet via the proxy in our work network and other apps like QuickGPS cannot.
Strangely enough this happens only with my HTC Touch cruise and does not happen with my Fujitsu Loox N560, which has exactly the same settings.
I have to note that I upgraded recently to WM 6.1 on the TC and that with WM6 it used to work
Any ideas
same problem for me... (qtek S200 & win 6.1)

Couldn't get to Internet using Bluetooth PAN

I have treo 750v, WM6.
I have done the procedure below:
1. Pairing my device with the laptop via Bluetooth.
2. On my Treo, clicked start > internet connection sharing > chosing bluetooth pan > click connect.
3. Device told me to activate Bluetooth on my PC. then I activated my Bluetooth PAN on my laptop. (I'm having BlueSoleil bluetooth manager installed on my laptop).
4. Treo said "Connected". My BlueSoleil manager said connected with an animation showing a link between my device and laptop icons. It even showed some message of its assigned IP address, etc.
But, i can not connect to internet on my laptop. I did ping to google, it said "Request time out".
Very weird, because when I choose USB Cable to do internet connection sharing, the connection is working seamlessly, i can connect to internet, good ping to google or any other sites, but not with BT PAN.
Please advice what to check, what to do, etc.. thanks
no replies yet, i hope someone will read and provide some suggestion for my problem. thanks
How about using the Windows' bluetooth manager?
My bluetooth places -> entire bluetooth neighborhood -> right click on your device name -> connect Network Access Point
I use this method every time and it always works.

Rgds,
Click to collapse
I tried it just now as you suggested. it then says network connected. but then i cant connect to the internet from my laptop. so i back to using the USB cable, and it works flawlessly.
i wonder where's the missing key???
Two things:
1. With the Windows bluetooth, once the devices are paired and a connection is established (Internet Sharing on the Treo), goto the little bluetooth icon in the systray and right-click on it. Click on the "Quick Connect" menu and select "Network Access". Once you have clicked on "Network Access" you should see your phone listed (my 750 shows as the name I entered for "Owner Information"). Select your phone and that should do it. These steps are similar to the ones I use for my Macbook as well.
2. Regarding BlueSoleil Manager: when I lasted used it I remember having to set up the serial ports manually so they could be used for communication between the desktop and the phone. I haven't used the BlueSoleil since I had a Treo 650, but I still have the software. I'll load it up and see if I can't help you with your problem.
Regards,
idyllic
So I got to work and loaded up BlueSoleil on a system running MS Server 2003 SP2. The bluetooth dongle I'm using is a TRENDnet TBW-101UB V2 with BlueSoleil version 1.4.9.2 build 041108, stack version 04.03.15.20041105.
I paired my stock AT&T Treo 750 to the machine. Started "Internet Sharing" on the Treo making sure to select bluetooth pan and the AT&T network Once this was done I right-clicked on my phone icon in the BlueSoleil Manager and select "Connect." The I choose the "Bluetooth Personal Area Networking Service" and open a web browser to test... so far its worked every time.
Some notes:
1. The internet sharing on the treo isn't instant, give 20 seconds or so to fully connect.
2. The BlueSoleil manager connects even slower... give it 30 seconds.
3. Try repairing the phone.
4. If using the BlueSoleil software, disable the windows bluetooth as the MAY be a conflict there. Basically use one or the other.
I'm not sure if any of this is going to help, but I hope it puts you on the right track.

idyllic

Bluetooth dun error 678

I have migrated from a Nokia E90 to the Touch Pro. I am a veteran Windows Mobile user, ever since the days of Windows CE, through Pocket PC 2003, 2003SE, 2005 and WM5.
I have a problem - I would like to use Bluetooth DUN to connect my laptop to the net. I used to do this with my Nokia E90 using *99#, so I know my phone provider will provide it. I can connect successfully using Internet Sharing over Bluetooth, but not using Bluetooth DUN. I get error code 678. I need to use Bluetooth DUN as I need to keep use the Bluetooth PAN on the laptop available to connect to my main computer.
Has anyone successfully connected via Bluetoot DUN yet? COuld you try it and let me know?
I've got the same problem. Fine on all previous phones. Now this one gives me this error.
Anyone solved it?

Hi Guys!
Can you help with this problem? I've got this same issue. It's really annoying. I Can't also set up bluetooth connection between TP and my PC (Windows Vista).
Any idea?
See whether this can help.
http://www.windowsmobilecool.com/20...ows-smartphone-to-a-windows-pc-via-bluetooth/
My TP can do the BT DUN from my notebook now, but the problem is that it will disconnect after a short while. I am still trying to find out where is the timeout settings.
I did not look at the link but it looks like you guys have missed the apn information out of your extra initialisation commands for your modem
Ice_coffee: 'apn information out of your extra initialisation commands for your modem'
Can you provide those info ? And where to use it ?
I think this URL provide more detail, it works for me.
http://www.ppcsg.com/lofiversion/index.php/t94416.html
Go to the Device Manager, select properties of the Bluetooth Modem, click on the Advanced tab, paste the following string on the Extra initialization commands:
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","internet",""
Try to establish Dial Up again, use the following for the dialup dialogue box,
User name: Your Mobile No. [eg. 6591234567]
Password: 65IDEAS [I used this for Singtel]
Dial: *99#
This settings works for me.
excellent instructions here
http://www.filesaveas.com/gprsconnect.html#laptop
including pictures, showing just which settings need adding on your laptop, just copy and paste the gdcont info into the setup screen for your htc usb modem, as per the instructions, you will have to change the apn to the one for your provider.

Internet Sharing Error?

Dear users,
I'm having trouble setting up 'Internet Sharing'.
Device informatie:
Wizard G3, T-Mobile NL, WM6 NL.
As all other programs work with my GPRS connection, Internet sharing won't connect. When I click 'connect' @ internet sharing, A balloon pops up to tell it cannot connect for unknown reason.
I had this problem with some other ROM's I tried, however, T-mobile WM5 (original) works...
Bytheway; I'm using Windows7 (won't work at XP too, already tried that) =)
Thanks for helping me out!
-- Edit --
Could'nt find anything on the net, getting full backup of my device now and trying Wm5 again within 60 minutes =)
-- > WORKED <--
@ WM5
Why not at WM6?
Which ROM do you have on your Wizard?
I have Xions WM6.1 ROM Build 20273 and I have the same problem. If I tell "Internet Sharing" to make a GPRS connection it fails. Any other program can make a GPRS connection.
Is this a Build 20273 specific problem or can it be fixed? Xions ROM is a kitchen ROM so changes can be done.
No mine is connected to GPRS but cannot connect due to a unknown error.
To solve your problem:
Settings -> Connections -> Manage existing (the gprs connection e.g. T-mobile Internet) -> Dropdown and select 'Connect'
Try again to use ICS
It does not matter if a GPRS connection is established or not. When I start "Internet Sharing" the status is alwyas disconnected. When I tell him to connect I get a bubblehelp that a connection cannot be established.
I tried it with no GPRS connection and I tried it with an established GPRS connection (discribed in your last posting). Always status: disconected!
I already build a vanaĆlla ROM to be sure that it is not an other software that makes the trouble.

[Q] WM5 UNITECH PA500 watchguard mobile vpn issue??

Hi didn't know where this question would fit in i hope someone finds it. (noob to xda-developers )
the problem:
when the wm5 pda has no watchguard vpn client installed all networking works fine and system doesn't crash.
with vpn client installed
1. wifi comes up with "dhcp server could not be contaced. using cached lease information"
2. usb connection to activesync fails to connect doesnt even pick it up or make any sounds on device or pc.
3. system randomly crashes with device.exe crashed send error report bla bla.
4. bluetooth seems to funtion ok still
symtoms go away once vpn client uninstalled
i need some help on configuring the software before installing on device basically but i cant see where i'm going wrong, i'm guessing its a firewall issue in this software as its the networking connections that are having problems, before crash occurs randomly. link to software for reference.
cant post link but google ncp vpn windows mobile trial
Note. the standard windows mobile vpn connection works fine however theres to many clicks and the connection is to easy to delete as "delete" is right next to "connect" when you go through manage connections.
if there was a one click way to start the vpn connection like or script or something i could then assign that to a shortcut button.
Background info:
I have a unitech PA500 PDA with laser scanner bluetooth and wifi, reps of the company need to send orders collected back to base easily,
Using xp sp3 pc with activesync 4.5 and usb data cable or bluetooth connection.
the watchguard client installer for wm devices, has firewall profile settings and this is set to off other choices are: off with rules to deny or: on with rules to allow.
i have a watchguard edge x750e firebox firewall at base and have all the relevent software to install the watchguard windows mobile ipsec vpn client Built on (NCP Secure Entry Windows Mobile Client) compatible with wm5/wm6
link to trial software of ncp version if anyone wishes to see the configuration options available to me.
cant post link but google ncp vpn windows mobile trial
i have setup the profiles for connection using the wizard on the main watchguard edge firebox, configuration user password etc. all tested ok as it has worked on these devices using the bluetooth connected to mobilephone 3g internet. but as described above all other connectivity has problems
i have 3 scanners one of which has been reflashed with the lastest wm5 rom
(this one seems to be more prone to crashing than the others)
available on the unitech website the other tested as they are original rom i don't know how to check if the one on the website is newer than the preinstalled version.
i have the the PDA's preconfigured to use Blackberry 3G network via bluetooth as the internet connection
i have a watchguard edge x750e firebox firewall at base and have all the relevent software to install the watchguard windows mobile ipsec vpn client Built on (NCP Secure Entry Windows Mobile Client) compatible with wm5/wm6
Using xp sp3 pc with activesync 4.5 and usb data cable or bluetooth connection.
the watchguard vpn client is very simple when it doesnt crash the device
any help would be greatly appreciated.
