Does this app exist - General Questions and Answers

I'm looking for something that can/will disable the use of my phone when I'm using certian apps.
ie. if you're trying to go online, any calls that might come in will go directly to VM.
Or even more unlikely, if you are in the middle of typing an SMS/MMS until the message is either sent, deleted, or put in the drafts folder the phone will be disabled without shutting off the radio, and any calls will be sent to VM.
It'd be great to have something like this, and also with the ability to pick various programs that you would like to use without being "disturbed".

Bump...
Anyone have any ideas about this?

I know this is not it, but it is pretty close:

you can use G-Profile by ageye to stop your phone/wifi/bluetooth/anything else you wanna do/ ... when you run a specific application.

XDA Messaging no longer functioning

Not sure if anyone can help or has had a similar experience.
A couple of times now on my o2 XDA Orbit2 (Windows Mobile 6.1) the messaging side has failed to respond. It is now showing that I have 2 text messages to be read, but upon touching the screen to open them nothing happens. Same if I go into the messaging section from the start menu. If I open the contacts that is totally blank too, however if I go into recent calls then It will list those. I'm guessing that log is somehow seperate to the main contact listing.
The problem comes from that fact I have not backed it up recently so will lose most of my contacts. So I wanted to see if there is a process that has maybe locked or failed to run. I have tried turning on and off and removng the battery etc. Last resort is obviously a factory reset. Just thought I would ask before that step
Edit:
On looking at the active processes I can see 4 x TMAIL.EXE and one of them using 75% processor usage. However I cannot see a way to kill/stop the process. Are there any 3rd party apps I could try to do this with? Or is this just a red herring?

I had a similar problem, but I ended up reverting to a previous backup.
There are some task managers that allow you to access the running processes. You can search here, or there are several commercially available like memmaid.

Hi friends
I am interested in a trolley that can be used inside a bridge section for inspection. the bridge is 22 km long and the section is of 1m x 1.5 m, This opening can be varied based on the availability of the trolley. Can you help me to locate one.
I feel we must have a kindof overhead electric trolley with a busbar facility

Locating the contact db file in WM 6.1 (contacts, calendar, phone all broken)

My problem is very similar to the one described here, However I don't want to fix it, I just want to TRY and retrieve my contacts!!!!
I am looking for the contact data files in WM 6.1 (in other words, the outlook data files that are probably hidden).
Backstory: The resident idiot here (ME) neglected to sync his phone and back things up for, oh, about 3 months. (yes, you know what comes next, and I fully deserve it!).
The phone has now stopped working... Specifically, the Phone application, contacts application, and calendar application. The rest of WM is working fine, except that there is something causing it to run sluggish. AND the phone will not sync. It will connect, but it refuses to sync. Nothing was done to cause this failure, other than waking up one morning.
SOMETHING is corrupted, but I don't think its the actual data file (logic for that is below), SO before I hit the hard reset.... I thought I might try to back it up manually..... what do I have to lose?
A few more specifics:
1. Samsung i770 running WM 6.1 (but I think more of a WM specific issue than a i770 issue). Activesync 4.5 will connect, but it will not sync contacts.
2. When the phone booted for the first 20 or so times after the problem appeared, an error message would across the screen as soon as the desktop was loaded, but far too fast to make out any of the words.
3. Trying to load contacts, calendar, or the phone application produces absolutely no result. No error message, to hung process, nothing.
4. The messaging application works fine, BUT any attempt to load a contact from within fails. Again, no error message, just... nothing happens, it's like you never clicked it....
5. The radio antenna in the top bar says that it has no service.
6. NOW the error message is no longer flashing by the screen when you boot the phone, but all other symptoms remain.
7. Despite the fact that the radio icon and status indicator claims there is no signal, I can send and receive text messages (I just have to enter the number manually).
8. Once, very recently, without doing anything, an error message appeared and STAYED on the screen. Shape of the text looks about right for the message that previously has been flashing by on the screen, I think they are one in the same.
"Shortcut Target"
"error opening the shortcut or locating the target filename."
ANY THOUGHTS? Primarily I'm looking for the contacts data file (I don't care about the calendar, but its probably in the same spot) to TRY back it up before I hard reset the phone.... BUT if anyone has any ideas about a cause or temporary fix to the problems, I'm all ears!!!!!!
I'd highly recommend trying Microsoft MyPhone, just to see if that can access your contacts. It may be that the contacts DB itself is knackered, in which case you obviously can't get anything back.
Worth a try

Indeed it was worth a try. Connected via Wifi to install (can't use data plan, that requires "dialing" an internet connection, which must use the phone app).
Synced documents, txt messages, photos, and then said "Synchonization Successful". WOOHOO! all done.... OR NOT! checked online, NO contacts information. No Calendar information. Apparently MyPhone takes the stance of "if it won't work, just ignore it and report success".
Thanks, A very good thing to try, but no go
Unfortunately, I can think of a number of different ways that WM could be programed, each pointing to a different culprit for the problem. If it's straight DB access for each program, then the only conclusion is that the DB is knackered. But if there's a some kind of access control program that handles those things, maybe its just the program that's no good (hence the message that it couldn't load the target shortcut when the phone boots up).
Anyone have any ideas where to find the DB itself? I can always try the traditional (and very bad idea) of a file swap.....
Looks like this mystery will go unsolved... last chance to figure out where to find the contacts db file is. I'll probably be wiping it tomorrow, can't live without the phone much longer. Thanks for the suggestions so far!
Search for PIMBackup, that will enable you to save all your PIM related stuff and then restore it once you have a working device.
Edit
Forgot to say this doesn't require you to install anything, just save the EXE to your memory card and then use File Manager to run it on the PPC.
"Connecting to outlook...."
"Could not connect to Outlook."
Beautiful suggestion, I really thought I had the answer there... Thank you!
Seems to be that poutlook.exe is knackered, but that really would not explain why the Phone (cprog.exe) won't load...
PIM Backup log history is mostly what could be expected:
appointments failed - cant connect to outlook
call logs worked
contacts failed - cant connect to outlook
messages worked - "connected to outlook" (but thats a different db and a different connection app, tmail.exe)
speed dials worked
tasks failed - cant connect to outlook
So it comes down to this: PIM.vol is knackered, OR poutlook.exe is dead, and I'm not sure which. Anyone have WM 6.1 and feel like emailing me a copy of poutlook.exe? (powderkeg500 ~a~t~ gmail ^d0t^ com !)... I'm sure the versions may be a bit different... but *shrug* maybe it will work?.....
Does anyone know if I can simply copy PIM.vol to my computer, reload the device, and then copy PIM.vol back to the phone? If the answer is absolutely yes, then I can simply try that. But if the answer is no... I could be shooting myself in the foot
i think copying PIM.vol off and then back on might work, but i seem to recall it may require Total Commnader to get it back on as it's locked by the OS on startup - deemed a system level file i think.
i remember doing this once myself but can't remember that far back now.
Sorry for not sounding more positive. You might like to look at alol.net.br as they offer a free Exchange acount you access OTA and so your contacts would always be backed up in future.

MT4GS not remembering ringtones

So for a few weeks now, my phone has been unable to remember the ringtone I set for either SMS or phone calls. every time I set it it works, but as soon as I reboot the phone or unmount the sd card then remount, it forgets both tones and picks one of the songs on my sd card as the new tone.
I first noticed it after I was having some problems with btunes (my preferred music app) crashing, so I decided to clear the cache and data in Media Storage from the "Manage applications" menu. I learned to do this from the developer of another music app I had problems with, and thought it was worth a try.
ever since then, i've had the problem. I don't know why. To be fair, I MIGHT have had the problem before that, since I had only had the phone for 2 weeks at that point and didn't pay attention to it due to finals, so I wasn't doing much rebooting, and anyway the ringer volume was probably off the whole time. My memory is fuzzy about the ringtones working before that point. It was definitely happening before I rooted though, so I know that's not the problem.
anyway, help? on a side note, it always seems to automatically pick the same 2 songs for the 2 replacement ringers once I reboot. I'm not sure why, especially since they're not in the media/audio folder anywhere, and don't show up as potential ringtones when you look in any "pick ringtone" menu.
If you are rooted I would say reboot into recovery and clear dalvik-cache.
Sounds like that's where a setting is hiding.
I had this problem too when I was on Bulletproof 1.0, then when I switched to 1.1 it stopped. I don't think it was necessarily rom related, but maybe something to do with the wiping when changing roms.
I've had my (rooted stock ROM) MT4GS forget its notification settings a couple times - for me they usually stay set for a while, but after some time and/or reboots will come back wrong (not always the same wrong either- a few times it has picked notifications from my music folder, other times from the default sounds).
The problem seemed to start after I put another Android device (CM partition on my Touchpad) on my Google account, so I've been operating under the assumption that it is some kind of bug with settings synchronization. Unfortunately, it isn't very repeatable so I've never pinned the behavior down exactly.
I don't know if the issues are related, but gathering information on similar problems will hopefully let someone zero in on the issue.
the settings sync issue is worth checking, especially since I still have my Transform Ultra that I sometimes have turned on at home on wifi. I checked it, and the ringers were set on something else, So I matched them to the MT4GS and we'll see what happens.
I'm not sure that's the culprit, though, since this only happens when I restart the phone or re-mount the card. seems like settings sync wouldn't be an issue there, though I may be wrong.
I have the same issue with MT4GS and mines is certainly not rooted yet. The phone is only a couple weeks old. But its annoying. Sometimes I don't even have to reboot, sometimes it randomly just happens. IDK what to think of it.
I always shut off settings sync during setup and this used to happen to me.

You mena the initial setup of the phone? and how did you stop it?
Yeah its the google "backup my device" crap malfunctioning. Its dumb because what do u want it to backup? Texts, logs... What does it backup? Apps and bullcrap. If u want to start over, y can't I install apps individually? Or just give me the lists of crap ur gonna reinstall on my phone and let me select what I want....
Anyways, turn it off, reboot, sync, before nandroid/rom flashing and then don't use it on fresh install.

ok, so what you're saying is, google's sync system is flawed so it periodically screws up the ringer settings on my phone, by attempting to "correct" them to the server information? why doesn't it just upload the knew info of the correct ringtone when I deliberately change it?

That's what she said... PRECISELY what I don't understand. It seems as though everythings good, you've set your phone up after a fresh install, and everytime you make changes it syncs and instead of uploading the new stuff, it downloads the old. It may be something we are doing wrong by hacking our phones and some setting somewhere is missing or a simple kernel command is confusing it or who knows... Maybe its google's fault... All I know is, its annoying. It should get rid of your issue.
On a side note, there may be some settings for this hidden in some settings you can only find via pc. Like buried in google voice or plus or chrome or some now defunct google product you can no longer log into... Perhaps some digging there. I've found little to no documentation on the phone end...

hmmm, well it can't be hacking, because this was happening before I had the phone hacked. also, oddly enough, I also have a different off line phone as a spare that's on the same android version, 2.3.4, yet does not have this problem. of course, that one's stock Android, not infected with Sense.....

Well... If it happened prior to hacking, then it's not google backup. So go with other possibilities... Phone is hosed... Sd card hosed... (Have u tried selecting various tones on card or in your system media folder within your phone?)... Or is that other phone ever on? Could be going back to that sync issue. Turn it on and then see if its connecting to wifi and syncing. Which ringtone r u stuck on?

My phone started doing this after I swapped SD cards with a larger one. I just had to go in, change it to something else, then change it back. Been working fine since.

Gmail and Default App Selection

Hello everyone. Thanks for reading and I am hoping someone could help me.
With the new Samsung S7, I am having the following issue. Gmail wont sync automatically, so I dont receive any new emails unless I personally go into the app. When I go into account settings, everything seems fine. But let me add, this is not always. One day is working fine, and next day its not. Its weird. When its not working right, and I enter account settings, I see the black sync circle next to mail, and unless I manually click it on, it wont update.
Next, I do not know if its marshmallow or the S7. But before, when playing videos, or anything, the actual phone will give me the option to pick from my choices, and when chosing, I have the ability to either click JUST ONE, or make it default. Now, whenever it gives me an option, it does not allow me to choose just once. It automatically makes it a default. Is there a way around this?
Thanks in advance.
My S7 has been receiving Gmail and FB Messenger messages rather intermittently but I haven't really been able to test enough to comment on it yet.
Your other issue is just the way Samsung/Touchwiz handles defaults. The way you're used to is the default MM way.
Definitely like the old default mm. With the new one I have to constantly go into settings and change default. It's annoying.
Today, Gmail worked for 2 emails, then it stopped receiving until I manually synced it. It weird.
RE the default App question, does anyone know of some setting (that maybe one that can be accessed via ADB) to return this to normal?
Similar to the way someone was able to enable Adoptable storage via ADB without needing root.

Keep re-receiving old texts, how do I make this stop?

Basically what happens is I get old texts from previous conversations as if they were new. They will come in randomly but tend to follow the sequence of the conversation, so it basically replays the conversation but slowly over the day. Seems to affect group chats more. It makes following conversations very hard since they are full of old texts that are not relevant but they show up as new. Also annoying to keep getting notifications when I'm actually waiting for a text only to see that it's an old text that I got days ago.
Current phone is Google Pixel 4A with CalyxOS, but I've also tried Graphene OS and had the same issue. I've tried the stock app as well as QKSMS. I did not get the issue with Signal (using as SMS client) but they dropped support for SMS, so this started back again as soon as I switched off Signal. I even tried putting the sim card in my old phone (stock android) and it's still doing it! This part is strange to me because when this problem first surfaced, doing this did fix the problem.
How do I make this stop or begin troubleshooting this? Nobody in my contacts is having this issue so trying to convince them to switch to another messaging system is kind of futile, this is my problem. I am starting to wonder if I should just get an iphone like everyone else because it just works, but I really hate the closed nature of apple ecosystem.
I was thinking of looking into how to do app development and modify an existing open source client so that it ignores texts that have a send date older than 24h, but before I do that, is there already a text client for Android available in the F droid store or as an APK that would have such a feature?
So this is not just group chats like I thought. Starting to get old texts I got from single conversations now. Even pictures get resent. These show up as new texts, though they still have the original send date. This will at least make it easier to filter these out.
Anyone have an ideas how to make this stop? Driving me insane. I really don't want to have to write my own app.
Anyone? This problem is driving me insane. It started happening with a vengeonce again. I am being bombarded by old texts that I already got days ago. It's just playing out the entire conversation over the course of a few days. Have to put the phone in airplane mode to make it stop otherwise the phone is just lit up non stop with old texts coming in.
At very least is there some kind of logging of sorts I can enable that would help me better troubleshoot this?
Inreally dont know but i Remember this happened to me sometime ,maybe Just try a factory reset or change rom , i dont know
I tried several roms, resets etc. While it was happening I even put the sim card in another phone and it started doing it on that phone too. It's also not a carrier issue since I'm the only person having this issue. I've also tried all sorts of text apps. The only one it didn't do it with was Signal but they dropped SMS support, which really sucks.
