Convert PIM Backup binary file to text without using windows mobile device

Hello,
First I thank Fred (PIM Backup creator) cause his very helpfull tool and his realy fast response about this problem (he gave me the solution).
So I paste the solution here if anyone need it
Question:
Is there any way to convert the pbc (binary backup) to any format that outlook recognize?
I ask because my mobile has broken and I have the backup in binary and i want to extract it to another mobile (not windows-mobile)

Click to collapse
Answer:
There is no converter tool so far, sorry. The only way is the use of a windows mobile device, by doing a restore then doing a text backup.
As you don't have a wm device, your only solution is the wm emulator. To get the wm emulator, you need to have Microsoft Visual Studio.
So download Microsoft Visual Studio Express Edition which is free then download the windows mobile OS image and use the emulator to do the job like a real device.

There is a way, you can use Windows mobile Emulator, i was able to
1) run PIMbackup
2) restore BIN backup
3) backup again as non binary
4) then PIB can be changed to zip, and csv files from zip can be upload to gmail contacts.
PIM backup
What version of PIM beckup did you used ??
Becouse on version 2.8.0. After aunpack inside is *.CSC file

hel please pimbackup

i have a backupfile of pimbackup, can i open it from windows?i must recover some phone numers but my wm pda is broken!!!
change the extension of the backup file to zip, Extract with winrar and you'll find a file called contacts_date.pbc, use notepad or excel to open this file and you will be able to see your contacts.
I prefer excel cause you will have a lot of strange looking characters to deal with...
Easier alternative, if you have the windows mobile emulator installed on your PC, just do a restore from PIM backup and you can see all your contacts...

PIM backup and .pwi notes files on PC.

Hello!
Is there a way to read content od PIM backup file and .pwi note files made on HTC smart phone on PC with windows?
I lost my phone and all i have i those backup files on my pc, how can i read them without the device?
I would like to be able to open pimbackup files on pc as well.
I think it should be possible to start a windows mobile simulator on your pc, install pimbackup inside this simulator and then restore your config to be able to access your data...not really the easiets way, but it should be possible.

[Q] Pim Backup for pc or android?

Let me know if you can extract the contents of a file. pib (Pim backup) so you can synchronize with Microsoft Outlook.
I switched from WM 6.5 to Android 2.1, but before doing this I made the backup with PIM Backup, they can not now open the same with your handheld like to know if there is a program for Android that opens files with this extension, or alternatively one for PC.

[TOOL] Copy sms from WM to Android

Hi, a bit of day ago I bought a Samsung Galaxy S. The first thing that come to my mind is to copy all my contacts and sms from my old i600 ( wm 6.5 cooked rom) to this brand new device.
Reading other thread I found a tool called smsexporter, but this tool stopped its execution with an null pointer error. There were another tool called Pimbackup, but that wasn't an option since I got a smarthpone, not a touch device. The next try was with a tool called smsimport (hxxp://wince.nasenbaeren.net/smsimport/) that run flawlessy on my i600.
There is only one problem: the xml created by smsimport isn't compatible with SMS Backup & Restore by riteshsahu ( hxxp://android.riteshsahu.com/apps/sms-backup-restore).
So I created a small C program that convert the output of smsimport to sms backup & restore. To run this just compile using Makefile, the run it, with smsimport file called sms.xml ont the same dir of program. This will create another file called sms-converted.xml that you put on your Android device, so you can restore it by using sms backup and restore.
Hope my program will help someone, cheers
