Convert PIM Backup binary file to text without using windows mobile device - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro ROM Development

Hello,
First I thank Fred (PIM Backup creator) cause his very helpfull tool and his realy fast response about this problem (he gave me the solution).
So I paste the solution here if anyone need it
Question:
Is there any way to convert the pbc (binary backup) to any format that outlook recognize?
I ask because my mobile has broken and I have the backup in binary and i want to extract it to another mobile (not windows-mobile)

Answer:
There is no converter tool so far, sorry. The only way is the use of a windows mobile device, by doing a restore then doing a text backup.
As you don't have a wm device, your only solution is the wm emulator. To get the wm emulator, you need to have Microsoft Visual Studio.
So download Microsoft Visual Studio Express Edition which is free then download the windows mobile OS image and use the emulator to do the job like a real device.

There is a way, you can use Windows mobile Emulator, i was able to
1) run PIMbackup
2) restore BIN backup
3) backup again as non binary
4) then PIB can be changed to zip, and csv files from zip can be upload to gmail contacts.

PIM backup
What version of PIM beckup did you used ??
Becouse on version 2.8.0. After aunpack inside is *.CSC file

Sorry, i have a QTEK-8310
Hi
But flashing the ROM loose all personnal data.
How can we do to dump all the phone, ROM + data (SMS, contact, file, etc....) ?
Thx
I found this on the forum:
This is the way i backup my phone
Your phone should be Registry and App unlocked..
Sync your phone, copy folders /Application Data - /Program Files - /Windows/Start Menu - /Windows/Start Up - to your Desktop (PC)
Install Registry Explorer with Resco Registry
Export HKCR,HKCU, HKLM then copy the .reg files on PC
Backup Contact, SMS, Call History with Jeyo Mobile Companion
--NOW DO YOUR HARD RESET OR REFLASHING THE SAME ROM--
Now, restoration...
App Unlock your device
Copy folders /Application Data - /Program Files - /Windows/Start Menu - /Windows/Start Up - to your Phone thru Active Sync. (Overwrite all)
Copy the .reg files from your PC to phone..
Install Resco Explorer with Resco Registry and Import the .reg files
Restore your Contacts thru Jeyo Mobile Companion
Restart device
there you go, you got now a clean setup of your device with all your apps and customizations. One thing, some apps wont work/launch with this procedure, you may need to reinstall them and if you try to, it will prompt that it couldn't be removed and if you wanna still continue installing, just hit Yes and install it on the same directory where it was on your previous setup.

download the latest qtek rom from xda:[email protected] and keep copy wid ya if ya need.
I believe that is enough simpler to make a backup with Sprite Backup before flash the ROM. If one becomes to the previous ROM (with which backup was made) it recovers the ready backup.
Although I have not proven it, I believe that also it would serve a copy done with ActiveSync.
Greetings
Sprite backup is the right choice! Just make a backup from your file system to the storage card, and if you want to downgrade your OS, just do that, and then run the backup file (it's an executable file). That's all!

there is only the ROM for Qtek-8300 available, Exist another way to find the original ROM??
THX.
maybe this is good for you:
http://www.smartmobil.no/index.php?name=UpDownload&req=getit&lid=84
thx for your support, but I think this is the version for QTEK-8300
Or you can use XDA-Tools
Sprite backup shouldnt be used when going from WM5 to WM6, it will corrupt your PIM and mail databases...
As for the original ROM for the Qtek 8310:

Third post has all the tornado ROM links

hel please pimbackup

i have a backupfile of pimbackup, can i open it from windows?i must recover some phone numers but my wm pda is broken!!!
change the extension of the backup file to zip, Extract with winrar and you'll find a file called contacts_date.pbc, use notepad or excel to open this file and you will be able to see your contacts.
I prefer excel cause you will have a lot of strange looking characters to deal with...
Easier alternative, if you have the windows mobile emulator installed on your PC, just do a restore from PIM backup and you can see all your contacts...

[Q] spb backup problem

my phone has been destroyed .
how can I return my contact from spb backyp file to windows pc.
Use the SPB PC app to open & view backup file contents & then go to PIM section open contacts & save them to a CSV file that can be used to import them across various softwares & platforms.
You can also load pim from the backup into Windows Mobile device emulator to view PIM & save it via varying PPC softwares you prefer for future restore to PC/PPC or other platform mobiles.

PM me the file & I will convert it to a CSV contact file you can easily use on PC, PPC, most mobiles ect.
Although if backup file is from SPB you should be able to view & export contacts with PC software in link in previous post.

Moving SMS from windows mobile to android

Hi - i know this question has been asked many times but I was not able to find the correct one - so is there free and working way to backup my sms messages from winmo and transfer them to android ?
I don't know if there's a program for this in winmo, but SMS Backup+ backups your SMSs to your gmail account so maybe you can find a winmo program which does the same
Sent from my GT-I5700 using XDA App

Yeah i know but the beta is over and i cant find download link
You're right, I didn't know. I used it a few months ago.
I have no other solution. I remember I had spent much time searching how to transfer everything and had only found that solution for SMS.
Maybe there's a way if you can export your SMS to your SIM card then import them?

[TOOL] Copy sms from WM to Android

Hi, a bit of day ago I bought a Samsung Galaxy S. The first thing that come to my mind is to copy all my contacts and sms from my old i600 ( wm 6.5 cooked rom) to this brand new device.
Reading other thread I found a tool called smsexporter, but this tool stopped its execution with an null pointer error. There were another tool called Pimbackup, but that wasn't an option since I got a smarthpone, not a touch device. The next try was with a tool called smsimport (hxxp://wince.nasenbaeren.net/smsimport/) that run flawlessy on my i600.
There is only one problem: the xml created by smsimport isn't compatible with SMS Backup & Restore by riteshsahu ( hxxp://android.riteshsahu.com/apps/sms-backup-restore).
So I created a small C program that convert the output of smsimport to sms backup & restore. To run this just compile using Makefile, the run it, with smsimport file called sms.xml ont the same dir of program. This will create another file called sms-converted.xml that you put on your Android device, so you can restore it by using sms backup and restore.
Hope my program will help someone, cheers
