Has anybody managed to sync with Windows 7? - General Topics

I tried installing Mobile Device Center, but I can't get the thing going, it seems. So does anybody know how to sync Outlook with Windows 7? I can browse files and stuff on the Atom, but the syncing doesn't seem to work.

Forget it! A reboot and removing the phone from the cradle and putting it back again was all that was needed...

Yeah, but keep in mind that Windows 7 is still a BETA, meaning that lots of stuff might not yet be implremented yet or that you would have to dig into deep hidden settings and configurations in order to get stuff working properly!
BTW:
If you are using Windows 7 for other purposes than BETA testing, you will have to turn off some additional services in order to have your private data safe (but I am sure you know that, right?).

Well, I'm running it as a private beta test, if you get my drift. I don't like the thought of my private data on the net. But I guess just about every other nerd in the world right now is doing it the same way. Do you mean that error reporting service? Remote Desktop is of course turned off.

If you are having problems connecting to a mobile device, try this lint from the Windows 7 forums.

Thanks, but I have been syncing successfully since the day after my previuos post in this thread. Still, this may help somebody else.

New Mac OS X WM5/WM6 Sync Software!!!

OK, I usually read a lot and rarely post, but I had to be the first to bring you Mac fanboys the good news!!!
After several tries, I couldn't make PocketMac and/or The Missing Sync do ANYTHING AT ALL to sync with my WM5/WM6 Hermes on my OS X. I couldn't uninstall them properly, couldn't get TRIALS without already having a $erial number, and experienced USB problems with these things!!! I have no problem with paying for good software, but I was determined to get something to WORK before I paid, due to so many terrible reviews I've read of these two products mentioned above.
I finally found software to SYNC in OS X 10.4.x...
http://www.eltima.com/products/syncmate/
It's called SyncMate, and so far it's free (for a while?) Now, if only I can settle on a nice ROM (if I could stop flashing), I'll have absolutely no use for Windows!
So far, SyncMate looks good... It successfully imported my Traditional Chinese contacts into the address book, but I haven't played with it much yet...
Mac users, please try it and we can use this Thread to post our experiences!!!
Keep in mind, you need to properly uninstall the OLD SYNC GARBAGE leftover from PocketMac and/or Missing Sync before it will begin to sync.

Hermes on OS X 10.4.9 Hackintosh
I actually tried it yesterday but couldn't get it to work. It couldn't connect to my Touch. It does look promising though. I paid for Missing Sync which has always worked well for me. The problem with this app might be that I'm on 10.5.1. I've read something about Leopard not working well for some people, a problem with a network connection. I'll try it again if people can get it to work on Leopard properly, I don't mind switching if it's better.
Just one question though. It seemed like you can only sync one calendar, is that the case? That would make it pretty much useless to me since I use 5 differen iCal calendars.
Does it work with OSX 10.3.9??? God Please!!
Downloaded the program, but couldn't get it to work with my O2 Zinc, don't understand why, it does have the sync sign, but couldn't get a establishment between the 2 and i simply can't click the sync button on the Syncmate program. Can someone please enlighten. Cheers!

Sync over Bluetooth?
Hi,
There is a way for use it over Bluetooth?
Regards,
Taguapire.
Works perfectly. Love it. The only thing I wish it had was Bluetooth, as taguapire mentioned.
*sigh* Why do we always have to be called fanboys?
Nice software though.
Oh, and new version out, as of Jan 3rd.
I am using missingsync with leopard and my hermes without a hitch. great application, all the others I have tried have been flaky.
I have tried a bunch of times to connect to syncmate and it simply won't. Any advice? I am on 10.4.1 and using an XV6800. It just won't connect.
somebody knows some program to use in mac os to edit the ppc registry

With how cheap HDD's are.. dual/tri/quad boot... You should have been doing this for years braaaugh...save a lot of time and ease of use. I run win2k3x64/vistax32/xpx32sp2
I have several Virtual Machines yes. But not Vista as Main system.
Installed it and It worked Great
Hey Guys I installed it last night and it worked great and controls the media player and access outlook from a great distance.
the one thing is that you have to be able to sync over BT.
other then that worked on the latest TNT base on19213.
Very Cool
I'm also using TNT's latest and it worked without having to patch anything. I did have trouble on my Vista box -- damn WIDCOMM stack! It didn't find the profile for sideshow for my phone. I went into device manager and fiddled around a bit (rescanned for changes) and it finally found the driver and it started working.
That said I still can't active sync via bluetooth (can't find a valid partnership on the phone side). I've tried both via bluetooth and COM over bluetooth and still no joy. I don't need it any so as long as the sideshow stuff keeps working I'm happy.
Oh and yes while the sideshow stuff works very well and at a great distance too it still is typical ugly, not finger friendly crap from Microsoft. The home plugin's navigation is so small it's hard to hit the arrows without bringing the applet up completely. Also most everything is buried in menus (some wired to buttons but not much). I realize this is a beta but this is pretty much Microsoft standard stuff. I wish theur UI people would get a clue some day.

How to reset Activesync (make it forget)?

ActiveSync has decided that my device must be called WM_Administa1,2,3,4 etc. I've deleted the Partners keys in the registry on my PC and device, but it still remembers things. Anyone know how to make it completely forget and let me name my own device?
Thanks

Not the answer you want. But honestly? Active sync is so retarded and has always been more of a pain than a gain.
And it's probably gone in WM 7... So, why not take this opportunity to "get in sync" with the better way this stuff is done now:
One such way is to use Google Sync -- and move all your contacts to a gmail account, which then has a google calendar associated with it. Once it is there, in the google cloud, then it can sync with your phone without active sync ever entering the picture again. Then you can just use the cable as a USB connection only.
It's been a while since i made this transition, but i am so less bothered by all the anxiety caused by active sync when going rom to rom etc.
STEP 1: getting outlook data to google - to then enable google sync, and contact sync.. i can't recall now if google had a tool for this, re exporting out of outlook for the one time to get gmail/cal in sync.
but there is an app that does it, called OGGsync -- and it works perfectly. only prob is it is not free, and cost $30 ... others may know of some other way to do this, if it appeals to you at all...
in the meantime, sorry for your problems. I ran into that, as we all have, many times. and frankly i never knew HOW to fix it... i thonk it always ended up being trial and error wasting hours ... and.. certainly your time is way more valuable per hour than $30 ... that was my view in the end.
good luck
Erm, no. Sending all my data to a 3rd party via the internet only to have them scan and index it before returning it to a machine one foot away from the first is not progress. There's nothing good about that model at all, and it's offtopic.

yeah well screw you for a ****ty attitude. You don't need to be an asshole. You can just say "that's not what I want". Most people on this site do not behave as you do, thankfully. But their numbers are growing and I would like to STAMP IT OUT. This site wasn't created for assholiness. have a nice day!
Ha. I didn't read that after the first few words. No need to. The 'net's full of people like you, which unfortunately means that the world is, and we've all met your local counterparts.
Anyway if you'd kindly get off my thread and be a prick in reality where less people have to put up with you I'm sure many users would be appreciative.
Back ONTOPIC it turns out the solution was to simply erase the Partners keys in the registries and re-install ActiveSync. Probably not ideal but only takes a minute to do and it works fine.
The keys are something like [HKLM\software\microsoft\windows ce services\partners]

Please refer me to some anti-hacking software

They keep changing my facebook password, monitoring practically everything I do, harrassing me, just to harrass me, because they get some pointless satisfaction out of it. I already have this Kaspersky anti everything package that does not seem to help at all. I might have pissed off the owner or two of a few tech companies a while back but I have tried to make amends. I know what is going on, I just don't know who is doing it or why. Pleaae help me to make them stop harraaing me by referring me to good antihack software, free perhaps? as I am physically disabled and cannot make much money. Thank you in advance.
PS: It could also be a psycho-ex-girlfriend p.i., after I told her that it was possible to do this.

Always Remember : Never Save Your Password In aShared Computer... ;P
Hope it helps.. hehe
More than likely you have a keylogger or a trojan on your computer, or someone is sniffing traffic on your wireless network. My suggestion would be to temporarily stop using facebook, use another computer on another network to change your password, format your computer and don't use wireless at home.
This may sound extreme, but you wouldn't beleive how easy it is to pull passwords off of an open network (bookstore, Hotel, or Airport). You can try to use spyware, and anti-virus software, but most software packages out there are hit or miss. You can also try changing your SSID, hide it, and encrypt it, but it's still not the most difficult hurdle to get through. My guess is that you have an open network broadcasting SSID, or you have a some kind of keylogger or trojan reporting back to someone on your machine. So once you've got your machine cleaned (reformated), install some good spyware/antivirus/firewall software, avoid opening emails from anyone you don't know, and avoid entering personal information over wireless networks.
Hope this helps, and good luck!
Moved as not software release..
The best option is:
1. Download Ubuntu Linux CD image (.iso).
2. Burn it to CD.
3. Boot the CD.
4. Now you can use everything, you are safe.
So, change your passwords, etc...
5. You cal also try to search for those harmful files and delete them, but it would be best to reinstall Windows system.

[APP] ClipSync: easiest way to copy paste text between devices.

I noticed there are some questions on this forum that relate to copying text between phones and PC's.
I'm an independent developer and have written a free app that does just that. It runs as a service on both windows and android. It works over LAN. And it allows you to do 2 things:
1. You can copy text from android to your PC by simply copying some text in android (Long press -> copy) and then pasting it in Windows (CTRL+V or right click -> paste)
2. You can copy text from PC to android by simply copying some text in Windows (CTRL+C or right click -> copy) and then pasting it in Android (long press -> paste)
It's really that simple. Here's a quick demonstration of me showing you how it works:
Wondering why you would need this?
Have you ever wanted to copy paste a URL from your android device to your PC to look at it on a bigger screen? Ever wanted to send a text message by typing it on your PC? Ever looked up a route description on your computer and realize you had to type in the exact same address in your GPS client? Did you ever e-mail yourself because you needed some text on another device?
No? Well then you probably don't need it at all. Sorry to have wasted your time
If you do think the app is useful you can get it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.bdwm.clipsync
The Windows server is available at http://bdwm.be/cs
Hope you like it.

Like what I'm searching for a long a long time
Thank you so so much
Mutiple network addresses
Works a treat! Very simple to set up and use.
One wee problem I encountered though: where I'm at just now my PC has multiple network connections open: LAN and VPN. When the ClipSync server started up it was listening to the VPN address which ison an entirely different subnet to the LAN connection. So my Nexus, which was connected on the LAN subnet, couldn't find the server. When I disabled the VPN connection the server switched over automagically to listen on the LAN address and was found straight away by the Android app. A way to specify which IP address the server listens on would be great in this instance.
Another concern is using this in a multi-android environment e.g. at work the standard issue phone is a Galaxy Nexus so there's quite a few conected to the LAN at any one time. What's to stop someone installing the app and connecting to another users ClipSync server and getting / setting the contents of their clipboard? I'm being picky I know, but it's something I had to work around when writing a webOS app many moons ago that would use mDNS to broadcast stuff across a network. Setting a PIN on each client and using that to encrypt / decrypt broadcasts was where I ended up for that FWIW.
Also, if the server restarts, clients don't reconnect until you go into the app and manually reconnect.
I've just tried copying something on my Nexus 7 and it synced, not only to the server, but to my GNex as well Shutting down the server, unsurprisingly, stopped that particular magic from happening *sadpanda*. A feature request would most certainly be to allow clients to sync with each other without the need for a server to be running at all. You hate me, I know I've no idea what the mDNS capabilities of Android are but that would be one way of doing it.
All that said, this is a fantastic start to something extremely useful! So thank you very much for making the magic happen :good: and apologies for the rather rambling post
Northernmost, thank you for this post. Seems like you have really thoroughly tested the app. I really appreciate that. I'm aware of most of the issues you mentioned and I have just moved them up in my TODO list. Will be working on it this weekend and next week.
One thing I wasn't aware of yet was the problem that your PC can indeed have multiple IP-addresses.
This will be solved in the next version of ClipSync Server. Thanks again for your great feedback and your support
I wouldn't say I've thoroughly tested it... but I have been playing with it some more. Namely, I've been aiming at having the server program running on my home server (with a static IP so it's easy to find) and the clients connecting to it. Then having assorted desktops and servers sync their clipboards to the ClipSync server. The aim is to have all my devices keeping their clipboards in sync.
After forwarding the right port I could connect and sync clipboards between Android devices over any net connection rather than just a LAN one But the connection gets lost quite often (which is probably down to connectivity issues rather than the app itself) and you have to reconnect each device manually... which will get old real quick. Again, not the fault of ClipSync!
Then, using a program called Copycat to sync clipboards between various PCs (including the master ClipSync server) you end up with everything sharing the same clipboard automatically! Huzzah. Or that's what should be happening... but it looks like Copycat can get itself in a muddle and play clipboard changing loop-de-loop. There's a few other network clipboard syncing programs out there to try yet so hopefully I'll get that all ticking along nicely. Anyway, I'm rambling (again) :silly: but looking forward to where this all goes!
GREAT!!!
Just some days ago, i thought, that it would be a great feature, if i could copy and paste between my PC and my Phone.
Brilliant!

Hello,
I'd like to report a problem.
On my Win8 Enterprise RTM OS the desktop application crashes as soon as I connect.
If you need more information or debug data, I'd be glad to provide you as much as I'd be able to collect.
Hey well done. This is a simple and handy app that should have been integrated in Android frol the begining. Of you can patent the technology vecause I'm sure Apple will include this feature in a future release of iOS and call it revolutionary
Microsoft should at least have done this in Wubdows Phone since it runs on the same kernel.
Btw mooi dat iemand van Gent in het nieuws komt haha !

There's a Java version coming up. I might need some Mac and Linux testers cause both my netbook and laptop have 3 different versions of windows running for the moment, and no way I'm going to buy me a Mac
If you are interested in testing a beta jar on Linux or OSX, please e-mail me and I will send it to you.

Edit: Oops. Just noticed you are the author. Thank you so much!
Some more feedback:
The app could use a tray icon on the Android
Missing security settings, how can I know that another computer/phone doesn't use ClipSync in my network?
That seems like a very nice tool. Some nice features would be:
A manual sync mode. You (double/right/don't know) click on the tray icon and you send or receive the clipboard. The same on the phone, maybe the actionable notifications on jb also works with tray icons.
A keyboard extension. You open a tool and use your computer keyboard to type on your phone, like a bt keyboard.
Amazing!
The best app on the planet period!:good::laugh: exactly what i was looking for but never thought it could be that easy or even possible.. cheers!
congrats!
Great app! I was searching a lot for a such solution and I have found it in Airdroid and get used to it. Will see if ClipSync could convert me.
