Not quite "bricked" - General Questions and Answers

Hi folks,
Looking for some friendly advice here. A friend has accidently flashed a Herald ROM to an Artemis. And now the phone is in a canoe with only half a paddle heading for a murky creek.
Flashing back isn't an alternative as there is no ActiveSync connection.
Suggested using bootloader to put a factory ROM on the phone to get it going again (sounds a plausible idea). He gets to the RGB screen and then it just hangs there. So..........
Are we going at it the right way? If not, what should we do?
Is there hope for the Artemis?
Am assuming that if he can see the RGB screen then the Artemis isn't a pricey paper-weight just yet.
Would greatly appreciate any tips, advice and help.

Problem with Jasjar

hi,
I am sorry if this topic has already been discussed but I couldnt find any previous discussion so I would appreciate it if there is an answer already available perhaps someone could direct me to it.
I was using WM6 on my Jasjar and my device was running properly. I however, accidently broke the LCD and after checking out the price of a repair decided it would be cheaper to just buy another phone. So after about a Month, I sold my device in its same condition (i.e. with the broken LCD). Now before I handed it over, I performed a hard reset using the procedure that we are all so familiar with, however I didnt get the famous chime when your device is ready for screen alignment etc.
I handed my device to the guy and the next day after replacing the screen he called me and informed me that device boot is not progressing beyond the imate splash screen. He told me that he went into bootloader mode and installed some older roms from imate and still there has been no progress. I went yesterday to him and reinstalled the WM6 rom version that I had and the same problem persist after two upgrade.
I am positive my device was working when the LCD broke and even before I hard reset it... Any help in this matter would be highly appreciated.
Thanks.
Ahmed

Newbie - Need Help - WHITE SCREEN

Hello guys,
My XDA Orbit 2 suffers from a malfunction on its start up, it loads with a white screen, I can not see the normal boot up screens. I have to wait until the green light flashes then tap the power button to put phone into standby then bring it back out again..
I was looking to flash the rom back to original state but I have no idea where to start..tried to do HardSPL but fails due as when it goes out of WM6 screen I can not see what it is doing..
Someone please help...
More Informations needed
Hi djmetsandy!
Please tell us which ROM u actually have. When flashed any cooked ROM before you only need to connect the phone via USB and flash the new one (or original).
More when u post more infos.
So far
Frank
I have the same problem after Hard-SPL except I can barely see the phone is booting. Any help will be greatly appericate. Thanks
Mine does it too!!! please help!
First I would like to specify that I am a Noob so please be patient with me!
I bought my XDA O2 Orbit 2 ridiculously cheap at my local cash converters "unlocked" according to their advertisement. When I bought it, it already had this white screen on boot but everything else worked so I bought it thinking that I would be able to fix it somehow. I have since upgraded it to the official O2 WWE 6.1 rom. I would like to put HardSPL on it and use cooked roms but obviously without being able to see the bootloader I can't do the HardSPL. Every now and then it will show the bootscreen properly and if I go to the device info app in settings all the radio numbers and everything is fine (no corrupted numbers). What is mtty, where can I download it, and will I be able to use this to fix it and how?
Any help would be great as I really do like this phone it's just an annoying little problem.
For reference here is the device info:
rom version: 3.13.206.0 WWE
rom date: 09/01/08
radio version: 1.59.42.15
protocol version: 25.85.30.07H
Please help me because my phone is not covered under warranty as I bought it secondhand.
I've fixed my white screen, not that I knew it was going to fix it.
I cracked the LCD of my phone at work, so I decided to fix it. In the process of swapping the LCD my white screen problem has gone.
I can't say exactly why it fixed it but I did notice that my original LCD had rounded corners and the new one has square corners. I suspect either a bad batch of screens or a bad connection.
I would like to point out that taking the phone apart will void your warranty and potentially damage it if you don't know what you're doing.
Not sure if this will be the fix for your problem but it worked for me.

Will a cook rom make physical damaged to the phone

Hi
I have a question on the phone (touch screen). Few weeks ago I installed a cooked rom, than after two weeks, the touch screen just die on me. I have no idea what happen, I never drop the phone on the ground or in the water.
Than I send it back to HTC, ask for repair. You know how much HTC ask for the fix the phone? $425.00. WTF!!!!!!!!
Now I ask for help here, will the cooked rom damaged the phone? Any way I can fix the touch screen?
Please help.
Thanks
PS. If this time No one can help me fix it, will anyone here buy the phone from me?
First...what ROM? Did you Mess with any registry settins regarding the touch screen? When you say "died", are you talking about it not turning on, or turning on and not responding? Hard reset?
I do not want to post what rom i use before.
I did not mess with the registry. Touch screen (hold screen) is no response. I try soft reset and hard reset. I also try to install some new rom. on the OS setup screen, i cannot do anything since the touch screen did not response any more.
Any idea????
why don't you want to say what rom you use ?
energyrom...
But anyone can help me out here?? Any idea???

Soft Bricked my G1

Hello.
I have been browsing the forums here and doing searched and reading some helpful information but long story short....
I have managed to soft brick my G1. I can power the phone on but I am frozen at the Tmobile G1 splash screen. I do not have a card reader and I have no idea how to use the adb.
Can anyone simply the method of resolving this issue? I would greatly appreciate it and would be forever in your debt.
-Thank you
well, it sound like you may have a little more than a soft brick...
try starting it while holding down HOME. this should boot into recovery. if it does not, then it sould like you have a real brick. i did that to a g1 once, it involved flashing *danger spl*.
if you do indeed have a real brick, there is some hope, but not much. search around the g1 forum for the jtag threads. there are some people working on it, and it sounds like someone may have figured it out, but it's a VERY technical solution requiring taking the phone apart and attaching it to your computer via a special cable.
good luck
if you're in need of a replacement phone, i've found craigslist to be an excellent resource. i've bought 2 phones on there in the last week. a cliq for $100 and a mytouch 1.0 for $85 both in VERY good condition.
Thanks for the reply. I've already been browsing around craigslist hah.
Going to do some much reading, reading and more reading then writing up a good plan before I try this again if at all.
I jumped in with both feet without the necessary research and it bit me in the ass .

[Q] Newb, sorry ahead of time

I have had my treo 750 for only 4 years or so, lately it's been freezing up while texting, it also takes a while for the time to adjust when I wake up the screen, and finally the screen, once in a while, will go squirrelly after a soft reset, kinda diagonal?? You can still make out the picture but it's seriously distorted. I've spent a couple late nights on here trying to download different things but I am a little overwhelmed. I'm lost amid hard spl's, and rom's.
I didn't realize how attached to this phone I have become and I cant afford another smart phone right now.
If someone could point me in the right direction, I would be so grateful. If it means the phone is dead, so be it. I hate to give up on it. Please advise, and thanks, what an interesting site.
Can anyone advise me if this phone is done or worth working on?
