weird problem with at&t internet after using iphone - Touch Pro, Fuze General

hey guys, i bought an iphone online from at&t (to sell) and just got it. stuck my sim in there and it "activated". played around with it a little, than put my sim back in my fuze, and the internet wouldnt work! after multiple soft resets i played around with the settings and saw that the address is now ims.cingular. i changed it back to wap.cingular and everything is perfect now. however, it goes back to ims.cingular after each soft reset. what gives?

nobody knows? this is real annoying... ive never even heard of ims.cingular...

hey my guess is to call att and remove the iphone plan because it is differnt from other att plans

thanks, but i never added the iphone plan; i still have the $15 medianet plan

ims.cingular is the APN for Video Share, if you have enabled the video share service on the phone it will use this APN as it must be parked on it to receive video share calls.

On ATT's side, one of their systems thinks you're still using an iphone. This happens a lot. Call an ATT rep and get to technical support, they should be able to fill out a case which'll get it fixed in a jiff.

See what happens when you do unprotected sim swapping with dirty iphones? You catch diseases!

strange Fuze data problems

I got my Fuze last night and the problem persists. AT&T is looking into it but seems to have no clue.
I can use the 3g data network for the weather app, Tomtom but when I attempt to load anything via Opera or IE it fails.
BUT if I load Wifi, then navigate to google.com for example, then turn off the wifi, the 3g data network starts to work. If I close opera and reload it the 3g data network stops working again.
Any ideas?
Jeff
Which data plan did you have before you got the FUZE. I got my FUZE and the sales rep. who sold it to me took off all data since I opted not to go with the PDA package.
I called in and complained and the customer service rep. re-added MediaNet for me. Now I'm having the same issues you mentioned again. WTF is going on.
Just my two Cents
I would take it back and try another phone in the store. Mine works fabulous out of the box.
I had the iphone data plan. AT&T has a support ticket submitted but they seem to be clueless as to what is going on. I am signed up for the correct 30.00 dollar media net plan.
Who knows. They said they would call me back later today. I will let you know if they fix the problem. I have already done a hard reset and it made no difference.

For what it's worth, I had all kinds of strange data problems when I switched from my iPhone to my Tilt. Had to call AT&T several times before I got a tech who figured out that they had changed my data plan in one place but not another place so it was still picking up the iPhone data plan.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I unfortunately tried that already with no success. I probably have incorrect settings on AT&T's end in my account.

This is most likely the case. I am sitting in an area with full 3G signal and getting speeds of 20k/second. This is all after I switched to the FUZE from the Tilt which had a MediaNet Plan and now am on a PDA Personal plan.
This is Total BS.
Yes i have the SAME PROBLEM,
i used to have th $20 iPhone plan, because i had the original iPhone.
i went into the store and they upgraded my plan to the $30 Fuze plan.
But now i have the same problem, everything works fine on wifi, but when i go into Opera using 3G, it says
"ERROR!: The remote server refuses to perform the request"
and i tried using the Instant messaging application and i get "Request could not be complete (code: 403)
This is awesome. Back 2 years ago when they first rolled out 3G I would reliably get 900 Kbps on my TyTn. Now, here we are 2 years later and I can semi-reliably get 25 Kbps on my FUZE (when it decides that it wants to connect).
What area is everyone in btw?
In my area (Tyson's Corner, VA), AT&T's explanation is that there is "degradation on a few of the towers in that area". Take that for it's worth.
im in Miami Florida,
i have yet to call at&t, but i will in a few minutes
im having the same problem i got mines on nov 10 and i cant connect to opera or AIM over 3g

ok i just called at&t support.
and i told them my problem, and they noticed that i had the iPhone before i got the Fuze.
They transfered me to Technical support and they guy tried and fixed the network on the spot, but he said, that wat they needed to do is get the "iPhone" out of their network. Because the network still thinks im using the iPhone, so it uses a different type of data transfer.
He said this usually happens to ppl that have an iPhone and then switch to a "normal" phone.
He submitted a paper, that will get the iPhone information out of the network, and my Fuze should be working just fine in 24-48 hours, they said they will call me.

They just called me back and said the iphone was still listed in one of their systems on my account. So the iphone even in death haunts me. (ok it didn't die but I want to smash it)
She also said that my inconsistent data speeds are a result of an outage in my area that has been going on since the 6th of Nov involving 3 towers. They comped my data charge for the month so I guess I can't complain too much.
She said that she will call me at the end of the week to make sure everything is working. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
Jeff
I'm having the same problem in Opera. Opera works fine on phone reset. Howvere, at some point, it just starts returngin the error message "The remote server refuses to perform the request..." The strange thing is that Push email, and my data connection in Garmin Mobile XT continue to work.
Between this issue and the GPS not working (without GPS Test), the Fuze is starting to be a pain in the butt.
Workaround
I have the same problem, where X number of hours after a soft reset, my phone's data connection no longer works. Following some advice I found on another forum, I've gotten a work-around, but it's not great.
The theory was that the phone's data connection is releasing it's IP, and the phone doesn't know it, so it's trying to reuse an expired IP. Pressing and holding the end call (upside down phone) button for a few seconds by default, terminates the data connection (color wheel comes up when this process is started). After that, internet seems to function again.
Anyone have a better resolution to this?

AT&T Fuze without data plan?

I bought a used AT&T Fuze online, and it came yesterday. I popped my SIM in, and this morning, I received a text message saying a data plan is required for all smartphones. I called up AT&T and got my IMEI changed and cancelled the data plan. Is there a way to prevent AT&T from charging me for the data plan, so that I can just use the phone without internet access (excluding Wi-fi, obviously)?
I have the same question. Back in October I had a Tilt that didn't have the plan - activated it and had been using the plan until mid January - the phone was stolen out of my car. Using a Blackberry now and they automatically stopped the data plan. I have a new Fuze on the way and don't want to pay the 30 per month as I can use WIFI almost anywhere for free.
Read that their policy is that if you have a smartphone they'll will automatically charge the 30 and activate you if you activate a new phone - but it doesn't specify whether the "new" phone is purchased from them or just through a change in recognition via the SIM.
When I looked at my account in January there isn't an option to disable the data plan - used to be there - so I'm thinking you use a Smartphone you have to pay. Seem to me a class action lawsuit should be in the works. Many use the phone as a PDA and don't care if we have access 24/7.
Maybe if they upped their speeds and coverage for 3g while lowering the price say to 10 to 15 it would be worth it.
So I'm guessing it can't be done? darn. Damn AT&T!
Unlock it and use t-mobile; that may be your best bet.
i bought my fuze with no data plan so there shouldnt be a problem. as long as you didnt purchase where u received a discount for signing up for a data plan
I bought it used, and it automatically charged me

I didnt have that problem with AT$T, actually.. i just recently put my wife's sim into my old fuze. with the exception of getting charged for unwanted data that got downloaded automatically, she has had no problems. she doesn't use the internet so it is fine. I just had AT&T block any data from her line. ( her line is no longer under contract, and i would like to keep it that way...)
I do actually have a question of my own... (didn't want to start a new thread)....
she does want to send and receive picture messages, we have unlimited messaging, but with the fuze you must have data in order to send or receive MMS. AT&T thinks she still has her old razr.
I would like to set her up with unlimited data plan for the razr, which is only like $10 per month, and was wondering if this would work with the fuze and what settings i might need to change to make it work.
thanks

Sorry, but from how it looks now.. No you can't.. if you use Data, they will catch you that you are using a Fuze... the only "work around" I know is this... She can set up a yahoo, gmail, or simmilar account to just use with her phone... Then whenever she is in a WiFi area, she can send and receive picture email.. she can take the picture and compose them anytimes.. just has to wait to send them til she can use the WiFi.... MMS accounts can both send and receive with people who use email.... where they put in the send, instead of a phone number, they just put in an email address (go ahead, try it yourself, I know you want to )
As far as her sending her pictured emails to peoples phones, she just needs to know what carrier they use.. Then enter their #, and the rest of their
"email" address from this site : http://modmyi.com/wiki/index.php/MMS_Email_Addresses
She can avoid having to look up their address if the person who wants to share pictures with simply sends a message first to her phones email account using their phone... Then she just simple has to reply I know this is probally not the answer you were looking for, but it woudl work and save you having to pay the $35 for AT&T PDA Data....
I've never had a problem not having a data plan on my account. I bought it refurbished from AT&T and there was no data plan required for activation. I even temporarily added a data plan, then took it off again the next day just last month. I was never hassled or given the run-around at any point. Maybe you should just try changing the IMEI back to the Fuze and see what happens. It might also be a good idea to install NoData and disable the two data connections first, just so it never tries to connect.
I also dont want a data plan( cant afford it). My question is how can i make it not use wap for internet and only use wifi, when i do need it to receive data for mms. Thats included in my messaging plan but I have par per use internet and media net. I want to make sure that it doesnt connect to the network for internet or media net and I can only do internet through wifi. How do I do this? I tried just turning data off but it automatically turned back on when i hit the browser. How do i make it only use wifi? Thanks

You can always get a data block on your plan, so when you accidentally try to use data, it wont connect, thus making ATT not know you have a PDA... therefore wifi is the best and only option!

I used to have an old Samsung flip that I actually flipped into two pieces. When I replaced it with a used Blackjack I simply went into AT&T and had them add the $30 MEdia Net package (Unlimited Data, Unlimited Msgs) because it showed that I still had the old Samsung flip. I had been using my Blackjack for about 2 months and there was no recognition. Now I'm using the Fuze with no problem. As long as your plan doesn't show that you are using a smartphone (IE you bought one from them) then you should be ok. I've been doing this for over a year with no problems.
In the same boat. Just bought a Rhodium & I'm wondering what I can use my Fuze for. I wanna give it to my dad whose line has no data, or use it as a back-up and cancel my handset insurance. Can I switch between devices on my sim which has a data plan? Can I use it as a wi-fi only browsing device(my Tilt 2 won't connect via wi-fi, it seems, the SIM having never been installed)? I could try data block on the account or data block software & put his SIM in. I thought the rationale for the data plan requirement was that the company could only make a profit, while subsidizing the price of these devices, by charging more than a fee for monthly voice service over the term of the contract and that, after the contract, the device is now mine(not rendered useless as even a phone should one not have a data plan), free and clear, to do with as I wish, or at least to use wi-fi without a plan(like my Tilt 2 is not doing)
When I got my FUZE in April, 2009 the saleswoman said that I could cancel the data plan in 6 months.. Online there was never an option to disable the data plan so I called and had it canceled that way. Now that it was canceled though, online does show that there is an option of no data plan. I bet though if I re-added the data plan that disable option will disappear again.
You can use this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=610657
to block your data from ever being used. I use this to turn off AT&T ISP GPRS and MEdia Net. You can still send/receive texts and go online through WiFi.
@TheGlowingCurve, I don't believe just being an unlocked phone helps, my previous phones are all unlocked now but if I put my SIM in them again, att.com immediately changes my account's phone picture and model to the phone the SIM card is in. They know ALL about what phone you're using.
EDIT: I've never understood the relevance of http://www.htcclassaction.org/ to the Raphael. That site says there is no 3D acceleration or acceleration of videos and whatnot but of course there is acceleration. There is an ATI driver cab and it allows running of 3D programs like Diamond Hologram and COD2, not to mention TouchFLO3D and Sense UI. I don't even think that driver cab is needed because I honestly don't even install it. Video acceleration may not work in CorePlayer, but the solution is easy, don't use CorePlayer! The included Windows Media Player and Album programs are both accelerated and capable of playing H264 videos smoothly. The problems mentioned in http://www.htcclassaction.org/ have nothing to do with our phone and in the site's updates (which are all at least 2 years old!) it even says the Touch Diamond at release had 3D capabilities already.
I'm pretty sure your issues with the FUZE have to do with WM itself, not with HTC's phone.
I too had a tilt, but i put the sim card in teh new fuze i bought. Both of my phones have no data.
I got some bull**** out of them in december when i asked. But i called in the other day, and it was like oh yeah np. No more data.
Because i was a cingular customer im grandfathered in. If you had a PDA prior to november of last year, you also are grandfathered in.
dont take no for an answer.
Just to be clear, ive now shut data off and turned it on on the fuze alone 6 times. LOL

So you bought the FUZE after November of last year?
Did you have to call them each time to shut down the data plan? Is the charge for that prorated?
lol so now that AT&T removed their unlimited data plan and introduced limited data plans, what happens with future smart phones? Will AT&T require the higher priced data plan?

Using the Fuze with no data plan and using WiFi.
Well there's actually some things to keep in mind here. Being that I have had some experience with AT&T smartphones for busiensses, I know that this is a sore spot to their network users. If you're using a PDA and haven't switched the IMEI online, you're bound to receive a bill from AT&T if you're using the WAP settings from the stock AT&T ROM build. To get around this, unlock your SIM, change the IMEI online, use NoData, and set up your phone to search and prompt you for WiFi hotspots. Turn the phone off or to Airplane mode also from the connection manager. There are plenty that are free once you're in their area, or near an open private WIFI network area. Simply connect, and send all of your data via Wifi connections. This will keep the device from auto-detecting the AT&T WAP and/or using the WAP settings.
One extra step that I take is to erase your WAP data completely from the connection manager so that it's not automatically recognizing the AT&T network settings. You can then choose your settings when needed using any GSM network anywhere in the world, but be careful! This can be expensive if you're not watching your settings. Unlocking your SIM is a MUST! If you're smart, you can set up a T-Mobile prepay account to use the partner(AT&T) GSM network when needed, if needed. This will normally cost you $.99 per day to use.
I hope this helps you better understand the WAP settings. One note.....trash the stock AT&T ROM for one that you'll find here on this site. There have been many that have worked hard to modify this device so that you can fully experience the device fully.
ok i bought my fuze from someone here at xda and he wasnt sure if it is unlocked or not
how can i find out i dont have access to a tmobile sim ..how do i change the imei online
and if i dont have a data connection will the time and weather still update and im using Tael rom ..the weird thing is i had a fuze that got stolen that i was using on the 30 dollar unlimited plan that i singed up for in feb2010 when i got service them and got the samsung impression free then switched to my fuze and they never caught on but like i said in my post above when my gf hooked us up on the family plan with the impacts ..when i switched to my new fuze they got me quick ..and this fuze is setup the same way as my previuos fuze

If you changed to an AT&T 4G data plan and can't send/receive MMS messages

Here's the long story (SEO version):
I recently switched from an iPhone to an Inspire. Started getting texts and emails from AT&T that I was required to switch to a 4G data plan (this is the case if you switch from any 3G phone to any 4G phone - Inspire, Atrix, Infuse, etc). I ignored these for a while because I didn't want to lose unlimited data, but finally decided to call customer care. I was able to switch to an unlimited 4G data plan without arguing with them - which I thought I was going to have to do. Cool!
The problem was that while messing with my account, the rep also changed me from 'iPhone Messaging Unlimited' to 'Unlimited Text Messaging'. I didn't realize for a few days, but this feature does not include MMS, so I wasn't receiving picture messages. My wife was mad at me because she thought I broke my phone and couldn't receive the cute pictures of our daughter that she was sending. I spent good chunks of the past three days messing with my APN settings, re-flashing my ROM (AR3.1), updating to a newer ROM (AR3.3), etc, etc.
So today I thought, 'I wonder if this has anything to do with my switching data plans..." Like I said, it took me a few days to realize it, so I didn't make the connection at first; I had, after all, also changed from Inspired to Revolution around the same time, so I thought that - and the ROMs' different APN configs - could be the issue.
So I logged into my AT&T account online and saw the problem with the messaging plan. Changed it to "Messaging Unlimited" (same price - $20 - as the Unlimited Text feature) and within a couple of minutes I was able to send and receive MMS!
Short version:
If you recently upgraded to a 4G AT&T phone (Inspire, Atrix, Infuse, or whatever), and are experiencing issues with MMS messaging, or text or data features, make sure AT&T got your features right.
I know from searching that a few other people have experienced MMS problems on their Inspires, so I hope this helps at least one other person!
got my inspire today and popped my sim card in...within 5 minutes i had a text and an email telling me to switch lol. I really want to stay on my iphone data though because i have a backup iphone 3g i keep around for when i'm flashing or if something happens.

I really don't know if they will ever enforce it, or if it makes any difference to your service, but you will continue to get the texts and emails saying that you have to switch. That's why I finally gave in, and like I said, I didn't have to fight to keep my unlimited data, which was a relief!
When I had to move to a "4g" data plan they removed text messaging entirely from my account, not even pay per use so none of my texts were getting through. Gogo AT&T CSRs.
Edit: Oh, and to make it better, when I called to have it restored they gave me a hard time about putting the $4.99 200 texts plan back on since they don't offer it anymore, though they did eventually restore it.
does moving to "4g" actually do anything? like is it a price increase or anything or is it just something they do on paper?
I'm looking into getting an inspire but I really don't want to if its gonna end up costing me more monthly...

[Q] New Skyrocket No data? SIM card issue?

I just purchased a brand new Galaxy S II Skyrocket (AT&T) online (not from AT&T directly), the phone is amazing. But I can not get a data connection on the phone. Wifi works fine, and I can make and receive calls and send and receive sms but no data connection at all.
My previous phone an HTC hero (was a version from canada I think for Rogers) works fine and has for years. I just took the sim from that phone popped it into the new skyrocket expecting all to be well, but no dice, no data connection on the new skyrocket.
My first guess was that I needed to change some settings on the phone, I seem to recall needing to do that on the Hero when I first got it years back. After searching around though there dont seem to be any settings to change that would make a differance. Maybe I only needed to change something beacuse the old phone wasnt actually AT&T but Rogers? I'm not sure.
My second thought was maybe the newer phones use a newer type of sim card. I think I've had my current sim card through at least 3 phones. It says 3G on it but I may have had it before my Hero, and the HTC Tilt before that, and even with my old motarola flip phone from way back.
I took it into Best Buy to ask them about the sim cards and the guy there told me the ones they use look just like the one I have (still say 3G on them).
I am trying to avoid going directly to AT&T with this as I have a very old plan that I was transfered into back when it was Cingular wireless, and I am hoping and praying that I dont need to get transfered into some other plan. I know my current plan has a data package it has been working on my old HTC tilt, followed by my HTC Hero fine for years and years now. Unless there is some distinction between my data plan and some new data plan required for new phones?
I am at my wits end and really hope I didnt waste 500 bucks on this amazing phone any suggestions any of you might have would be very very very appreciated.
You need to call att and tell them that you have a skyrocket now. You can keep your current plan, you just gotta let them know you have that phone. No biggie at all. A new sim card may be necessary as well. Which can be picked up at your local store. You'll be fine. And enjoy your new skyrocket.

I'm pretty sure att makes you buy an lte plan if you have an lte phone. Kinda wack, but I think its true.

They may change it to and LTE plan, but im positive he can keep all the features of his old plan. If you still have unlimited data from back in the day you can keep it. Beware of the throttle though.
Sent from my pocket rocket
Yes you get to keep all your features and plan they just change it to a lte package don't do like me and do it on the phone just to find out I had to go get a new lte Sim card and to find out that the ****hook on the phone that acted like he knew what he was doing when I said "look buddy I got the unlimited data plan I don't wanna mess it up" and he gives me the "oh no i'm not touching that sir" only to find out I had to go to the store and get a new Sim card and low and behold he did change my unlimited data plan also. Cause he was a moron

You need a lte sim card. A friend of mines had a similar problem, he
just went directly to a att store and they gave him a new sim.
You should be able to keep your current plan.

I have not yet I did come across some other posts else where that mentioned changing APN settings but I dont see those options in the phone any where, not like my old HTC hero.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions I guess I will just have to brave going to the AT&T store and pray things work out.
It will man they will just make you a lte Sim card should do it for free

He needs a new sim card. Simple as that...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
I had the same problem when I went into Best Buy to get my Skyrocket. The mobile data would not work no matter what the idiot employees tried. They used my old SIM card even though I said I was pretty sure the Skyrocket needed a new one.
I finally got a little upset and took the phone to the AT&T store. The guy that helped me was pretty cool and gave me a new SIM card. Mobile data started working right away lol
Stopped by AT&T and ..well unfortunetly that couldn't have gone much worse...
I was told my current plan "has unlimited data, but you don't have a data plan so you can't use that phone"
So now I'm going to get stuck with another $70 a month on top of what I was already paying, to have less minutes and less data than I did before...
On top of that, there was something odd on my account or something and they couldn't just add a $30 data plan to it, they couldnt even cancel it and start new. So now I am waiting for someone from customer service to call me "maybe this week" so they can fix what ever it is so they can finish taking more of my money.... *sigh*
o well thanks for the help everyone anyway it was worth a shot.
Something sounds fishy about that

Yeah man sounds like you are fixing to get bent over. Did you have a "unlimited smartphone data plan"?

I'd definitely have to agree with the two above me. If you had the original unlimited data plan, it WILL grandfather over into the LTE plans. Sounds like they're trying to jank you into paying for a completely new, added line, but leaving the data plan you already had before on there. Therefore, technically paying for TWO lines. If the rep seriously couldn't get rid of something that was on your plan before, he seriously doesn't know what he's doing and just tried a manual workaround that would work. You'd be amazed how easy it is to change/add/remove things to your plan in their system.

Basically. That at&t rep is just trying to **** you over. You should be able to
use your current plan on this device. All that's needed is a new sim. Nothing more,
nothing less.
lyndone58's solution worked for me. I typed in his first suggested APN and now I have 4G. No trip to the at&t store necessary. I just took the mini sim card out of my iphone, cut up a credit card and stuck the mini sim in the middle of it and stuck it in my skyrocket. No new sim card necessary. All is well with this fix. Thanks.
1st. There is NO such thing as an LTE sim card. Its just APN settings done OTA by AT&T. I know of people with the old 64k Cingular cards in LTE phones.
But this sounds like an sim card issue. One of my 3 skyrockets on my family plan has had this issue and we finally changed his sim card and working.

Avoid StraightTalk SIM.

Some of you know I have been using a pre-paid Sim Chip in my cell phone for my phone/internet service.
These past three days, my crippled data speeds have become unbearable. Time-outs caused notes to both Google Drive and Evernote to disappear into the digital ether, never to be seen or heard from again. After searching terms such as "HTC One X speeds straight talk" and "straight talk sim speeds" I began to see a pattern. People complaining of arbitrary throttling, and conflicting press releases by Tracfone Wireless and América Móvil, the parent copany of tracfone, straight talk, net10, Assure wireless, and others.
After trying the suggestions found on reputable android websites like XDA Developers and Droid FOrums I had no reliefe, and so sent an email to the corproate resolutions team at Straight talk (not the first time I've had to do this, as they tried to **** me out of at least $32 earlier this year with false advertising.)
Poor Connection Speeds
I am experiencing very poor connection speeds with my BYOP sim card. My phone is an HTC One X (ATT Version). phone number [redacted] straighttalk email registered via this account UN: [redacted]
I have set all of the APN settings to the defaults on the card and on the website.
Create a new APN with the following values:
APN Name: Straight Talk
APN: att.mvno
Proxy: http://proxy.mvno.tracfone.com
Port: 80 MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.33 MMS
Port: 80
I have also tried variations on this APN with no luck. Other solutions tried include powercycling the phone, changing the type of default data connection, cycling the "airplane mode" on and off, cycling from 2/3G to 2G and back, updating the radio stack and baseband in my phone, and connecting to and disconnecting from a wifi network. None of these solutions has made a dent in the data speeds, which makes me fairly well certain that the problem is not with my hardware's ability to recieve signal.
At best my connection speed in Ottumwa IA is 223 kbps, and often only half that. And yet people sitting right next to me with Straight Talk phones or sim cards can easily get 1000+ kbps. The phone is not an issue, it's capable of a huge variety of frequencies and standards, and many of them are offered in my area via both ATT and Tmo towers in Ottumwa, IA. This issue has also been consistent across all of my ownership time of the SIM card. If this is a "cap" as has been widey discussed in the tech press, then it should restart with my new billing period. That has not been the case, as these slow data speeds have remained fairly consistent since I purchased the card in January, including a service lapse and reactivation.
It concerns me that I have read examinations on multiple forums and in the press from knowledgable users that there is a difference between the sim card program and the straight talk branded phones, and that users of the sim program are not only throttled, but also purposely targeted for slower speed standards in general. It is seriously affecting my usage of my phone, as in the last few days, critical apps such as Evernote and Google Drive have experienced timeouts resulting in lost data.
Straight Talk has already upset me once as a company and it took my contacting consumer advocacy groups to recieve a satisfactory resolution to that issue. The fact that I still utilize the service is a show of my good faith with it, but if these performance issues cannot be addressed, I am afraid that I will have to join many others singling the company out for criticism. You'll notice the specific proxy and port called out by the APN when android 2.1 or newer can easily auto-propegate these fields. It has been determined by people more knowledgable than myself that that combination of proxy and port specifically funnels SIM users to a pre-throttled branch of the network when compared with people using branded straight-talk phones.
Dear Lawrence,
We do apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you. I just checked your account on our system and found out that your data has been reduced. Furthermore, your data speed will be restored at a reduced speed 24 hours after an airtime card is added to your service end date. Should you have further questions, feel free to send us an email.
Sincerely,
Tyler

TLR if you ever even once go over the undisclosed cap of 1.5 gb... your connection will be throttled to >222 kbps. PERMANENTLY.
Since all of the Tracfone services under all the different names utilize the same back end, this will likely also be true of any other smart phone on a tracfone wireless service.
Then I guess I will be telling everyone I come in contact with to steer clear of any Tracfone subsidiary, as well as once again contacting the BBB and lodging another complaint. Thank you for confirming my worst suspicions about your company. This is the second time I have been baited and switched by you folks and I will not be giving this company a third chance, regardless of any offers you make to me.
Sincerely

when I first signed up for the service in january, I purchased a $30 limited airtime card. when I tried to activate it, I learnd that it was "illegal" to use on the smart phone program. even though I had prior written confrimation from Straight Talk customer service that I could do just that. They then tried to keep my money for THAT card as; well as make me either eat the $14.99 I had paid for the sim card, or pay another $45 plus tax and fees for the "unlimited" card.
In fact, it's only been in the last month, after numerous complaints like mine, that they began marking on their websites and packaging that smartphones MUST use the $45 unlimited plan or higher.
So, as per my promise to this company I am passing along my experience as a warning and cautionary tale. do NOT do business with TracFone, NET10 Wireless, Straight Talk, SafeLink Wireless, Telcel América and Simple Mobile. You will be bond for nothing but tears and trouble when you need their service most and they decide you're no longer profitable enough.
Sorry to hear about all the trouble your having. I've got a BYOP StraightTalk sim too but I'm on T-Mobile's network. I've abused the heck out of my data so far but haven't noticed reduced speeds and I'm pretty sure I've gone way beyond 1.5 GB. Could this just be the case for folks on an AT&T sim?
For some reason you have just had bad service with straight talk. I've been running straight talk for the past 6 months and have never had ANY problems. One month I used about 7 gigs of data ( a rogue app) and they did throttle me for the rest of that service month to 25kbps but the minute I refilled my account the throttle was lifted and I was regularly seeing 7mbps HPSA+ again. Since then I have used 2 and 2.5 gigs and have not got any texts or calls telling me I was using too much data and I have not been throttled.
Furthermore they have advertissed that the $30 card cant be used with smartphone before last month. I knew it six month ago when I first got my sim.
And you dont even have to enter the proxy into the apn for the service to work. Been using my phone since the beginning of this year with no proxy just fine. Oh and by the way I'm extremely satisfied with the service I get. I got about a 2 dollar discount for using auto refill so for unlimited text, unlimited talk, the best coverage in the nation, and a soft limited of somewhere around 3-4 gigs of data, I would say $42.50 a month is a deal that cant be beat by ANY OTHER service provider today.
Ha, pretty funny we keep winding up in the same places. I've been with straight talk for about the same amount of time also without trouble, although slow data speeds today. Other than that I have absolutely no complaints.

sorry to hear about your troubles but I can say this least
For the past 2 to 2 and a half months I have currently been using a net10 SIM before I got my HTC One. I first jumped on the band wagon of Net10 SIM when I got Samsung Galaxy Note ( Orignal) for $200 dollars. I found the net10 sim package at my local game stop for around $15 dollars. In that package there is three SIM options : One for AT&T branded or unlocked phones; One for a T-Mobile Branded or unlocked phones; and one micro SIM for AT&T branded or unlocked phones. I paid a small fee and had my Note unlocked and used the full sized AT&T sim. Got great speeds on HSPA+ ( between 4 and 8 mbps). However when I activated the SIM on their website they notified me, albeit in the small print , that if I used an AT&T sim that at 1.5 gb of use they WOULD throttle the speed down the snail ass slow. But on the left side of the screen they announced that if the AT&T SIM users want to switch to T-Moblie service instead that they would send them a free SIM card to do so. T-Mobile blows in my town as they have no 3g ony their EDGE service which isnt worth a damn with a 4g phone. So I'm limited on the service as far as GSM is concerned . With AT&T I get the back haul 4g its not LTE but still pretty snappy. The first month my 5 year old blew threw the 1.5 gb and instead of throttling me they just cut data out completely. Then they proceed to say that if you do that and add a service card before your service end date then then it does nothing for you data speed. it has to be on or after the service end date. I waited till the day my service ended and add an "unlimited" service card. However that did nothing. It was three DAYS before I had ANY data the two more days till my speeds were on par with what they were at the begaining. So all I can say is really RESEARCH the service you want and as always learn first hand. I am currently using the micro SIM in my OneX
and so far so good. I just use wifi when and wherever I can and keep and eye on my data usage. Other than the BS at first its pretty good for what you pay.
I've personally noticed network speed decreasing with the ownership of any prepaid GMS sim card.that I've tried (h20, straight talk, simple mobile)
Straight Talk completely turned off my data. Data does not work at all, Mms doesn't work. Which is why I'm switching service providers at the end of the month. I've had no problems for about the first 2 months. Then I pay for this month's and my data is cut off. I'm not going to keep paying for something that doesn't work. My little sister has an iPhone 4 on straight talk and her data is constantly off one day then on the next.

Same thing here.. I did get throttled once... 13 gb in 3 weeks, cable modem died and I tethered to my laptop, Netflix, Pandora, 1channel... Gotta love mhl adapter. They dropped me to like 25k a second, pure horror. After next payment boom full speed again.. sounds like the op just had a bad run

I was wondering if you fixed this problem. I have the HTC one x and have the exact same issue I have tried everything and phone still acts up. If so could you email me the solution please my email is [email protected] Thanks
Confirmed with Net10 also
Just to report same thing with me.. I had an HTC Vivid branded Att and also a Galaxy S3. I was duped into using the Net10 service and everything was fine until I flashed a different ROM on my girlfriends S3 and all the sudden I couldnt get any mobile data. I searched and re flashed roms and thought I wiped her radio. I felt like a noob for the weekend then finaly I tried puting the sim card from my Vivid into her phone and everything worked fine. I put her sim card in my phone and I couldnt get any data. Then I got heated because I just spent 2 days and nights messing with this phone, my girlfriend now thinks Im incompetent. and I never received any type of warning and new that I didnt use that much data.
Well that monday about noon I realized that I didnt have any data on my phone either. I called the worthless customer service to ask what the deal was and talked to a gentleman in India who after 30 mins told me that I reached my limit on data. I have an unlimited data plan that costs me 50.00 x2 a month. it was the 18th so a little over a half of a month I supposedly reached a limit that doesnt exist. I asked to buy more data with no luck.
Here is a company that offers unlimited but then says I reached my limit after about 2.5 weeks without any email or warning. They have no problem emailing me for dumb ****. Then I have no option to purchase more. I know that most people would say I just had a bad go. But I can assure you that this company doesnt want your business so dont give it to them.
Net10 Straight Talk Tracfone ALL THE SAME COMPANY
Use them if you want to but you will be throttled and possibly shut down. I had a smartphone that I couldnt use for a month. Im now with Tmobile and its not much better. I have no service in alot of areas that I frequent. Im not sure if any of them are worth a damn.

I'm going to have to change my opinion here I just paid my bill on the 1st. And on the third I was having issues sending a mms. Well knowing how much I screw with the phone I assumed it was something I did.. then I noticed when I left home and my WiFi disconnected I had no data at all... Now I'm pis**d off, call customer service after looking at my data usage.. 26mb used. I get the typical india rep that says they have no idea why. Then I ask for a supervisor and the guy says ok. I'm placed on hold only for the line to be answered by a machine telling me about high data usage.. I was like Bulls**t and called back. I get pumped to same message 4 times.. now keep in mind it's was a holiday here in the US so I had quite a few beers flowing through me. I finally called back from my wife's line and refused to give my cell number or name till I had a supervisor on the line. After tearing him a new one he reset my account and I verified I had data and at normal speeds. Then I had him give me the number to the corporate office, I called and received the message about calling back between normal business hours. I'm calling them Monday and gonna have some fun, polite but pissed attitude. I'll post the results of the call and may even record it and post that. See how it goes this time.
Only thing better than customer service is finally getting the phone number directly to the main corporate office in Florida.
I shall share

i used to be an Sprint user, i was paying like $165 for 2 lines , the Internet was very slow sometimes, so i looked Information of cheaper carriers and good service and i Found Straight Talk,. that uses T-Mobile and At&t network, ( depends of your Sim Card ) so i bought 2 at&t sim cards from Ebay, like $70 dollars each, and i bought this awesome device too , and i unlocked the iphone 4s ( sprint iphone ) of my daughter with GPP and now i been using Straight Talk service $45 UNLIMITED, ( $90 dollars for both phones ) and the internet is very fast , i don't know what it is, but i guess is because i have the AT&T Straight Talk sim card . i'm very happy with this new service.
btw, i tried this APN settings, but,...

APN type: default, supl, mms (notice I took off the mms! This is because we’ll enter a 2nd APN for mms.)

but my data and mms wasn't working. so i finally found the correct APN settings for my At&t sim card.
