Disable volume buttons when device is locked - Touch Pro, Fuze General

does anyone know how to disable the volume buttons when the device is locked? this seems somewhat obvious, im not sure why the volume buttons are not disabled...
im using the at&t rom that came on the phone

http://www.ppcmobility.com/forums/showthread.php?t=381
this is supposed to work but it did not for at least one person...

didnt work for me, weird tho how this is such a simple requested feature, and HTC choose to not get it sorted out.
The whole point of the lock, is to disable all keys...surely??
dont know how many times ive put the TP in its case, only to pull it out, and see its almost silnt, as the volume buttons have been triggered.
shoddy....

If you dont mind switching app for locking, TouchLock Pro 2.0 does a great job for me...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444215

I've got a stock HTC ROM (v1.90.00.00) and when it's asleep it doesn't respond to the volume buttons.
Cheers,
Steve.

For some reason I thought I posted this before, but a quick search doesn't find it, so I must have forgotten..
To enable the behavior you desire:
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd]
"DisableVolumeKeyDuringLock"=dword:1

Noob question here. I could not find this in reg editor... Do I have to create this as new code in HKCU\ControlPanel\keybd?

Yes, the key is not there by default, you have to create it
New dword.. DisableVolumeKeyDuringLock.. value 1.. hex or decimal doesn't matter as 1 is the same in either
I could just make a .cab.. 1 sec
Thar she blows!

Thanks! I will try the cab after I try to do it in reg edit. Kinda new at this stuff, so I am trying stuff out. The cab will be the back-up if I fail...

Tried this cabfile in my O2 Orbit II but no joy with it.

It'll only work if your keypad.dll looks for this key, the only one I know for sure does is the HTC Fuze, since that's the one I disassembled to find the key

Oh okay, that explains why it's not working on my Touch Pro.. Anyone know the equivalent solution for a Touch Pro that's not a Fuze? >_>

If you could post your keypad.dll I can take a look at it..

this would be really handy to have, saves havin to install more software to attempt to stop it, a simple reg file is waaay better

Same here, no issue with it. My stock rom:1.90.401.1

hello people.i have the same problem with my htc p3470. i ll try the cab file and return to inform u
edit: no luck unfortunately....this is really annoying..

Works for me. Have the elite rc3 rom. Just had to soft reset after applying the reg edit for it to work. Thanx a million

Thx man it worked using the cab file
My phone is
1.90.405.1 WWE
1.0225.19
52.33.25.17u

Just installed the CAB on my TP - after turning the phone off and back on it works.
TP( ex vodafone)
ROM 5.05.405.1 WWE
Radio 1.11.25.01
Protocol 52.58.25.30U

i experienced this on my TouchPro as well - i ended up flashing other roms to it which made the problem go away.
the fact that this occurred out-of-the-box left a nasty taste in my mouth tbh smelt like the whole stock rom was a half-arsed rush job thank god for the likes of NRG.

Some Strange behaviors with WM6

Ok I dont know if its just me with my 2 wizards, but for some reason one thing i have noticed in the newer roms is a soft key lag. Like where the contacts and calendar keys are at. There is like a second or half a second delay. I know i did not have this problem on my other WM6 builds. And also On some of the Roms It takes about 10 revolutions for the windows folder to show up. On older roms it would take maybe 2 or 3 revolutions. I am on TNT 2.0 and i have noticed this problem on this one and also when i was on NBD 7.2 . Im gonna try 7.3 and also pandora 3.2 and see how those roms are. Also why do people use smartskey? What is the purpose of that. THank you very much guys
One thing that I've seen in a number of the 318 ROMS that Ive tested is that my clock seems to rendomly jump back to some date in 2006 (and reset itself to 12:00). Has anyone else seen this, and if so, is there a reasonable fix?
I like smartkey because it remaps the control of the volume slider to scroll function.
It also has the ability to fire off and set OMAP if you don't want to use BatteryStatus or XCPU Scaler.
I like using battertystatus cause of the battery and scaling. And also sometimes after a reset my phone goes into 24hr format.

Biggest reason for me to use Smartskey is that you can press and hold the right soft key and it will close the current app. Also like how it remaps the slide switch on the side for volume and paging. I turn off the D-Pad function on WM6 though as I like the smartdialer in WM6 (although with the reTOUCHed dialpad may go back to the D-Pad since it works differently).
Ok well that clears up somethings. But on to the original topic. does anyone else see that lag that i was talking about. Im on NBD 7.3 and its gone. But i was on tnt and it had it.

Disable speakerphone programatically?

Bump... Anyone?
A great man comes to the rescue (i don't mean me, i mean ViJay):

Thanks a lot RPG0. Unfortunately that software only works on WM5. Also, that's just one of the features of the software - I was actually hoping to have an EXE or something to toggle speakerphone on/off, or figure out how to do that. Thanks again though.
Hmm, I know you can put a button on the today screen with PhoneAlarm for that.
Did you try it? I think it says WM5 only as is WM5 or newer. The system didn't change so much from WM5 to WM6... And it does give you a link (i was using it for callhistory)... Just try it.
One of the built-in settings in AE Button Plus allows you to map that functionality to any button you want.
There's a new version of VJVolubilis lying on my harddrive somewhere that does this (written literally years ago!), but for now, go with AEButtonPlus.

Thanks guys! That worked great. One last question - what about disabling the phone's external speaker altogether?

Strange problem, is it just me??? [Update: Found what causes it!]

Hi,
I have this strange problem on my device...here's the description of the bug -
- When i have a phone call active, the start button goes dead...I cant click on the start button Even if i press the Win key, the start menu doesnt roll out.
- however, the close button and the volume icons are active
- when i try to tap and hold on the clock (to change between analog and digital), i get the circle of dots, but at the end i dont get the menu options for switching between the two modes.
- when i end the call, the start button is still disabled. If i have to re-enable it, I need to press the POWER button to turn off my device and turn it back ON, then it gets active again. However, this works only after i end the active call.
This started to happen ever since i installed one of the roms/radio roms (which i dont remember) and now, it happens on any ROM that i flash it with
I have no clue as to whats broken and this seriously gets on my nerves
Any suggestions or ideas?
thanks!
San
Damn, i take it that noone has had this problem.....anyone any suggestions which may help fix it?!

Hi Dreamtheater,
Enter BootLoader, connect to pc with USB, load, MTTY and type "Task 28 55aa" this will restore DOC to original state.
You will loose all info on your device so back-up first.

Before you try the DOC format, try re-flashing the radio only rom. If you are using v 1.18 or 1.17, try 1.15 which is more stable.

You suspect the problem to be with the radio? I guessed as much too...but it seemed like it happened two different radios and all the OS roms. Maybe something was screwed at DOC level, hopefully the doc format should work....
thanks!

Still no luck
I formatted the DOC and reinstalled everything, and it still fails...
All i need to do is, dial a number, shut the lid, re-open it and then try to click on the start button, doesnt respond
Everything below is functional.....
Sad :-(((

This is a very typical problem, I've no solid answer.
But lets try...
1. Run the CID unlock tool
2. Unplug the battery and plugin back after a few minutes
3. Start the device in BL
4. Flash the Radio 1.09, an original OS rom (i.e. from O2) and an empty extrom
5. Hard reset, screen align etc. (do not install anything)
6. Check the device status ....
Are you having the same problem?

thanks ranju,
let me give this a spin now....i'll post back after i try it. one thing though, when i tried a wm5 based rom, this issue didnt turn up.
one thing though....i actually cooked my own rom using a wm5 rom base and replaced the phone and outlook apps from wm6 and tried to run it. the phone module never powered on, and nothing worked....and went back to a wm6 rom after which. i'm not too sure if this has triggered these problems or a bad wm6 rom which i've flashed (i remember mo3ulla's rom which never worked for me and fubared my device completely....this could also be the cause....)
either ways, still hunting for a possible fix, and thanks so much for helping out! will post back bro....

Hi San,
If you have a history file in the root of your device can you post it for us please?
If not do you have access to Visual Studio and Platform Builder so that you can get a KITL output of this in action, then post the KITL for us?
Also, are you running any taskamanagers or additional apps?
Does the issue occur straight after a clean flash of a Vanilla Rom?
Cheers,
Beasty
@beasty
Here's history.txt attached....
I have visual studio, but i dont have platform builder....so i'm afraid thats not possible. If you could point me as to where i can get it, I could give it a shot.
Right now i'm going to radio 1.09, and checking if its a radio incompatibility issue...doubt it though.....

Oh dudes! I guess i figured out what's causing the problem, though i have no idea how to fix this!!!!!!
All this has started when my exchange service provider has migrated to exchange 2007 which makes it mandatory for me to have a password for my device. I have a 24 hr time out for the password, pretty much making the need for a password useless....
When i make a call and leave the lid open and continue to talk - no problems! the start button works as it should....
but the moment i close the lid and pull it open again, it seems like the display blanks and redraws (only happens if you have a password for your device), and thats when the start button gets disabled! Now, the only way out is to end the call, power off and then power on again......
This is confirmed, but how do i fix the problem? I should have a password, cant disable it.....and i always close the lid when i make a call! MS bug????
Thanks again ranju, beasty.....really appreciate it!

Who's there?
There are some known issues with password screen causing issues on some roms mate.
All I can suggest is dig through the forums to see if you can find a fix posted............I think J had a similar issue with one of his Roms and it was discussed in detail............
or flash to a different Rom and see if it is reproduceable.

Sounds like bad keyboard?
this is the weird thing, keys work fine when i first install a fast rom. it seems like phone slows down and lags a bit. im 100% keys work fine as they do when i go to a 6.0 rom. it is with 6.1 that gives me the problems.
srry i should have said with 6.1 roms.
Ive noticed the same thing with 6.1 roms.... And really the threaded SMS, and maybe a slightly quiker boot time is all i notice better on the 6.1 roms
ok well maybe u can help me with my other issue.
how do you find out what hardSPL you have on your phone?
i dont remember what one i put on there. and i tried putting new 3.56 just want to make sure it is on there and was put on right.
try disabling xt9....that made a huge difference for me...
I disabled XT9, and while it made texting easier... I always have to proof read before i send.
O ther wis it look s like thi s.....
thank you . i tried that, maybe i need to make sure most if not all programs are closed. thanx.

actually what will help the most is to set suggested words to 0, using kaisertweaks or advanced config, but of course that answer should have been easy to find as i've answered it personally at least 20+ times. Also disabling autocorrection seems to help too, but i think that the suggested words is the most significant improvement.

Problem with keyboard and screen
I too have had problems with the hardware keyboard. I have tried 3 different roms, all with the same problems. Disabling T9 does help, but doesnt fix it entirely. I have also had a problem with screen taps not being recognized.
In both instances, it appears the phone is busy running another process and it takes a few seconds for it to focus on the program I have running. I have checked taskmanager when this happens and the only running program is the one im using.. Perhaps a program that runs on startup in the background?

I can only assume it will be there after a hard reset, as it's something I've used countless times and have never had to enable it. (I seem to remember reading it in the manual too!)
Confirmed working with Dutty's ML series ROMs.
It does not work for me. WWE ROM. I just did a hard reset.
Always worked for me on Stock 1.66 ROM.
Working on Axlor.
Weird this, ive always wanted it!

that's strange. the feature is documented in the HD2 manual, so it at least works on all stock ROMs. If not, approach HTC support.
i'd say if it doesn't work, its something related to a flashed rom and a setting more than anything else
Turing On Speaker While Facing Up More Useful
I would rather somehow have the proximity sensor turn the spearkers on while the phone is facing up because it would be nice to multi-task and take notes or update my contacts while I am talking to that person/business. For example, a business gives me an RMA so I would have to edit my notes for that contact and enter the RMA number. I can't do this while the phone is faced down.
yea the speaker function works the same on mine as on the TP2
Is there a setting or reg key that I can change to enable this? (doesn't work on Artemis 6.0)

Maybe it's too late and you already found the solution but here it goes for other people:
To turn the HD2's speaker on do one of these:
1 - Long press phone button (furtherest left)
2 - Turn it upside down
3 - On the call screen slide down & press the speaker's button
