OK I'm a complete nube when it comes to cell phone roms. I bought an AT&T tilt on ebay that was supposed to be unlocked and have the Diamond rom installed. When I got the phone it was unlocked but still has all the AT&T controls and bloatware on it. I want to use this with T-Mobile and although I'm halfway proficient on PC's I have no idea what most of the abbreviations that are flying around this forum mean. I would be willing to pay a reasonable fee ($25.00 or so) to anyone living in the Los Angeles area who could remove the ATT rom and replace it with either the Diamond or Hyperdragon rom. I know enough that I am not qualified at this time to risk attempting this on my own. Any help would be appreciated

Dude. Forget the $25, just read the sticky on flashing your first ROM. Seriously. I was a total noob at this but in a couple weeks i was flashing like a f_ckin PRO. It isn't as difficult as it may seem, especially if you're halfway decent at computers. HDIII is a great ROM, and if you're not sure where to start just hit me up and i'll give ya a path to follow...word.

As Confucius said all great journeys begin with the first step.
Go to Hyperdragon III thread and read the sticky from mskip on Flashing for noobs, He has step by step easy to follow directions and links to all the files that you will need. It really is not difficult.
For inspiration read the Gweni. The donate the $25 to XDA for being here or mskip for great noob instructions or Sakajati for a great rom. Or all three.
Please refer to the Kaiser's HardSPL thread or the numerous guides available on XDA. If you still have questions after reading through it, feel free to post in those sections.

i posted this in the Kaiser forums too but wanted to spread the love
just got my Kaiser (AT&T Tilt) less than a month ago. works great, it's just not for me. my Krzr just works better for me and i'm much more comfortable with it. i live in the Bay Area in CA and would love to sell it to a fellow ROM flasher before i go to e-bay. i can provide pics if need be but i honestly barely used it. it maybe has 90 mins of talk time on it and 20 mins of internet usage before i decided it wasn't for me. i flashed back to the Original AT&T ROM and reverted to original Radio and SPL so it's back to OUT-OF-BOX stock. have the Original CD and of course manuals and USB cable. buyer pays for shipping and i will ship same day of sale if possible.
P.S.
sorry if this post does not belong here but as stated above, i can EASILY sell on e-bay so i figured i'd give first crack to you guys/gals.
P.S.S.
also just an FYI, no SIM card included. you need your own.
PM me for questions, etc.
and just to give you an idea of how much these are going for on e-bay:

Motorola has posted the source for the backflip. Hopefully this info helps us get this phone opened up from at&t's crippling efforts. Thanks to nokternl at modmymoto for finding this!

I really wish we had a motorola forum on XDA, and to all the haters suggesting we return the phone don't waste your time. Many of us are stuck with at&t for work or coverage reasons, and even locked down i, and many others prefer this to an iphone 3g.

Yes, it would be nice to have a board for the Moto. I only paid $50 for the phone, so I'm going to give it a shot, moving away from Blackberry after many dedicated years... May have to switch back after all the terrible things I've heard about my new purchase, should have done a bit more research. Also, a bit about my purchase experience with AT&FingT:
I want to start by saying that I’ve had the pleasure of working with ATT for the last 5 years. While they’ve had “decent” service, I still drop calls in the middle of downtown Seattle, downtown Bellevue, etc, just unacceptable.
We ordered a new Motorola Backflip, the first Android O/S phone that ATT has released. It released April 7th, and we ordered that afternoon online. The ads are everywhere, front page of ATT’s site, TV ads… $99 after mail in rebate with a new 2 year contract. So we ordered, and here’s the kicker. On the invoice we saw “not eligible for mail in rebate”. ??? The orders get placed through the Premier site, so I had to contact Premier to find out why. The answer was that we upgraded the phone only, not the phone and a voice plan. What? Ok, we already have the unlimited voice @ $69/mo, what more do we need here? Come to find out, it is invalid, because it just requires a $39 voice plan, but Premier would not budge on it!
Be careful how you order!!! Going into a store may be the best way to do it, or ordering by phone with a representative. Another thing that gets to me is how they bill for the phone. You can’t simply have it added to your bill if you are a residential (or whatever the term is) customer. I am also the telecom manager at work, and I can have handset purchases billed to my account all day long. I’ve been a “residential” customer longer than my company has had ATT service. My company only hosts 5 phones! What’s the difference here?
Ok, so I call in to order another Backflip, I guess I’m a glutton for punishment. Ordering for my workplace, so billing to the account is no problem. I called in, and was told that they would wave the activation fee and give me an additional $50 off. I had to get manager approval, so after that I call back in. The guy on the phone is trying to get $149 out of me right off the bat, even though I informed him of the huge TV ads, and front of their website. I was told “it might not be available in your area”. What? Its a national freakin ad! He looked into it a bit further and I only paid $49. So there you have it, call in or go in. And don’t let them try to weasel their way out of their promotion!
I second the motion... a motorola forum would be great. I have worked for At&t for the past 2 years and have had every phone imaginable including an Iphone 3G and 3GS and i have to say i actually prefer the backflip.

Flar or any mod that knows me or not, ive been a part of XDA for a long time but took a leave of absense and please consider these earlier posts on having a backflip forum as I also have one and would love to see a backflip forum on XDA as theres no other site out there as complete as this. besides theres many phones that have android on XDA that can correlate with the backflip and vice-versa.
Thank you for your consideration in advanced

The problem is there isn't an active dev community for the phone. If we get root, that may develop. Unfortunately the backflip isn't a super phone, so the super developers aren't likely to work to hard for supporting it.
Actually, my suggestion would be to head over to modaco's android forum.. that way you'll get the best android support short of the htc guys over here. Modmymoto and modmygphone (same family along with modmyiphone, lol) for more support. I personally hang out here and over at modaco, and with the 3g I still play with (primarily for wifi playing of only a few games) I go to modmyi, xsellize and a few other sites.. so its never harmful to deversify..

Hey guys, so I'm in the market for a new phone..my Titan is giving up the ghost in the way of keyboard un-responsiveness and I really want Android..
I'm currently on Metro PCS (and plan to stay..$35 a month after tax with unlimited everything is hard to beat) and I was wondering what phone would be a good fit for me.
I'd like to not go through the hassle of trying to get the esn added to the network so a phone where it can be changed (like my Titan) is a must.
I don't mind if the phone doesn't come with android loaded already as long as there is a fully functional android rom that I can load it up with.
Lastly, I don't really want to go over $100 for a good used one so that probably narrows things down quite a bit, but if there just isn't anything that fits the bill then I can work in some wiggle room.
Anyway, hopefully you guys can help me out..
Thanks for any info!
get the htc hd2 there any where from 99.99-350.00 usd at the moment
Sweet, thanks for the advice, I'll check it out..
Edit: so the cheapest I could find it was $150 on craigslist but that was an old post so it probably sold at that price. I wasn't able to find any info concerning it and the Metropcs network. There are probably just some basic settings that I need to get it onto the network though.
Keep the suggestions comin!
Anybody out there?
So...was this a really bad question?
Maybe someone could give me some pointers on what the right questions to ask would be..
[Q] exchanging phone @ AT&T hoping to get one without 1.85; any experience with this?
Like an idiot I jumped the gun and updated to 1.85 without changing CID. I went to the store and they obviously didn't have any in stock but they would call me as soon as they got a shipment in/acquired one from another store even if it is past my 30 days.
Does anyone have any recent experience with this? Does it have an earlier version? Or will I be stuck with another 1.85 device?
1.85 hasn't been released... can't see how you'd end up with one.
So you know the risks of using a leaked ruu. Why not just wait for root for 1.85 or a official update ruu?
Nothing is wrong with your device
Why would you need to return it? If being on 1.85 is the only issue, why not wait it out? I can't see why this is a problem that would require an exchange...
If you are not experiencing any problems other than being on 1.85 I would suggest u keep the phone. There is a very good possibility you could end up with a phone that has issues like the one I have and several others have had. Not only that but u flashed it to your phone so why make the carrier pay for something u did.

I'm stuck on 1.85 also. The phone runs fine and I can wait for the root.
I'm just curious, what were you going to tell them to convince them to exchange your phone with 1.85 for a stock phone?
Mike
I just took mine to the AT&T store half an hour ago. Since it was finally released from customs they said it should be in stock this week. They let me hold onto the phone and said even if I have to keep it past the 30 days they'll replace it anyway. They said there's a possibility of it being in stock tomorrow, so if I replace it then, I'll let you know.
I swear this forum needs to take a harder stance on threads like these. Suggesting that you're taking the phone back for exchange because you knowingly flashed a software version that is not carrier supported is shameful. These threads should be treated like Warez posts and deleted or locked.
Come on people, these things cost money! HTC and AT&T may make a lot of money, but every time someone does something like this it cuts into their bottom line and you're just driving up costs for the rest of us.

My my my someone is feeling self righteous. I'm sure your message/guilt trip is going to be absorbed by the denizens of a modding forum. Friendly reminder AT&T is the one getting in the way of letting you do what you want with your device and usage of data in the first place.

Your ad hominem attack doesn't do anything to make my point less valid. There is a difference between AT&T locking out things like data tethering (which is stupid) and HTC voiding warranties for bootloader unlocking, which is their prerogative. As an electronics manufacturer who incurs cost every time they accept a warranty return, it makes perfect sense to have a system which allows them to track who has unlocked the bootloader.
As a community of modders, I like to think that we all can accept that we are taking the warranty into our own hands when we modify the device in ways it was not intended to be used.
sassafras
I've been trying for a couple weeks to get mine swapped, both because of 1.85 and because of connection problems.. I just called a store and they said to call tomorrow (31st day since purchase) to see if they have any, and that they would be willing to work with the circumstances... But if you are swapping for no other issue I'm not sure how they'll like that.

Hello all,
Please excuse me if this is common knowledge or if there is another thread that answers my question.
I am somewhat new to the Android community, having bought my first device, a new Nexus 7 in August. I decided to try rooting it, which worked out great, until I accidently deleted the os off of it. ( thanks again to those of you who helped me fix this) I now have an AT&T LG G2, and I wish to root this as well. However, I have some concerns as far as my carrier's ability to charge me. Will AT&T know if I root my device? If it can, can AT&T do anything about it? I am worried especially about extra charges to my plan and/or the refusal of service (i.e. they kick me off of my data plan). Can anyone offer any insight to this? Do I have anything to fear?
Thank you for your help.

No, it is not illegal to root your Android phone or even jailbreak it if you have an iPhone.
Here is an article with the detailed info:
http://www.slashgear.com/eff-clarifies-laws-behind-unlocking-and-jailbreaking-phones-29267197/
In terms of receiving service from your carrier arises that is a different story. I don’t have AT&T, I'm on Sprint but I think AT&T will much likely give you problems or refuse service from what I have heard. I don't know that for certain as I have never had At&T.
I don't see how you would aquire any additional charges unless you are either going over your data limit or break your phone and they find out your rooted so they don't fix it in which case you are stucjk buying a new phone at full retail.
That being said make sure you understand how to unroot so you are able to if you need to take the phone in for service.
Hope that helps.

It's YOUR phone so they cant do anything other then just void your warranty. Do they actively try and find rooted devices? No. Do they gasp if they find a rooted device? No.
All I can say is you paid for the phone, so you do what you want with it. If worse comes to worse and you brick your device playing with it, thats what insurance is for
Wow, thanks for your quick and helpful responses.
Just to reiterate, the only issues I have to worry about is my warranty being voided, and the slim possibility that I can brick my device? I dont need to fear AT&T ending my plan or charging me extra money? Sorry to bother you guys more, but I want to be absolutely sure before I do this.
Thanks again for your time and wisdom.

That's correct and your warranty is really only voided if they see it is rooted. If you take the appropriate steps to unroot and restore your phone to stock you should be ok if an issue arises. I can't guarantee you will be because you are in fact always taking some risk when rooting.
In terms of extra money, unless your are tethering or in some way exceeding you plan limits: minutes, data, texts etc you won't receive extra fees for simply being rooted.
