Hi,
I have really looked around here for some solution of the miserable response of the screen. I think it is really annoying.
And I did not find a solution.
Who really knows what to do using "Advanced Configuration Tool" 3.2.
Some say you have to set the threshold very high. Is that so?
I started putting it down to 0. And I did not recognize any difference from the default setting.
Then I put it to very high 10000. But I do not recognize real change.
So please, those who know something about these things. What is the best setting to get a good result?
Does anyone know if the sensitivity of the screen changes when taking of the protection foil?
I really think the way you have tap on the screen is a nuisance.

No protetcions foil, please.
To increase touchscreen sensitivity you can set various value to the following registry key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\TouchPanel]
"PressureThreshold"=dword:2710 (hex) ; this is the initial value 10000 (dec)
Usually this value will be change automatically by the system whenever you run the align screen, the value set may vary depends on how hard you push the touchscreen. You may want to edit it manually using registry editor and set the value to which you think the best. I recommend to set the value to 245 or 400.
HTC Touc PRO the best for me is 350 (dec)
Bye
Hi,
thanks for the information.
But I do not really understand. What makes the screen more sensitive a higher or a lower value?
Why does the Raphael come with a protection foil if it makes the screen less responsive?
So do you really suggest to take the foil off?
Thanks a lot!
S.
If by protection foil you mean the clear plastic full face film then yes, that is meant to be removed since it covers the earpiece.
If you mean the supplied screen protector that is shaped to fit around the earpiece and front camera then that's up to you whether you fit it and leave it in place or remove it and forgo any screen protection it provides.
Hi,
thanks for the information.
I mean the second one, but does it really reduce the response of the screen?
Why oh why do they include it if that should be the case?
But I do not really understand. What makes the screen more sensitive a higher or a lower value?
Thanks a lot!
S.
Protection Foil does not reduce the response of the screen .. I have the value at 19866(dec) (don't know why, but I'm satisfied with the response )
just tried to set it to 350 (dec) and looks like it's the same for me ...stylus works perfectly with soft touches, finger is about the same..
Hello,
and thanks for your answer.
But I am really irritated. Some say the foil influenced the sensitivity of the sceen. You say it did not.
you put the value rather high, but then when you put it down there is no difference between it. Have I understood that correctly?
Someone said that a high value wasn't of any use.
I am really confused and most disappointed by the sensitivity of the gadget. I have a HTC TyTN, I have a HTC Shift and the screens behave very differently. They welcome my taps, instead of rejection them so to speak.
Thanks for any help.
S.
I've tried to use my Raphael with and without that protection foil and there is no difference at all..don't know how to help
Screen protector saved my phone

I have had various PDA's / XDA's over the past 6 years and never bothered with a screen protector as I thought they would make my device look ugly or make the screen harder to see/use.
However, because my Touch Pro came with one I thought I would try it out. Firstly it fitted so well I couldn't even see it. It made no difference to the look of the device and saw no real difference in response of the screen.
Just TWO days after I bought the Touch Pro I was busy polishing off the fingerprints as usual (!) when the screen caught a metal button on my shirt, causing a very deep scratch on the screen. I was really upset that my brand new device was damaged already... until I peeled back the protector to find no marks whatsoever on the screen!
So I promptly ordered a new pack and learned a lesson that these protectors are definitely worth having.
Hi again,
and thanks for your help.
So there are those who think the protector doesn't influence sensitivity and others who think it will.
Am I really wrong that there isn't any noticable change in the sensitivity of the screen whether I increase the value in the registry or not. Somebody said it did not make any sense to increase the value to a higher number than 240 anyway.
A general question here: Is it really possible to change the sensitivity to a noticable degree by changing the registry entrance, if it is rather a matter of the the way the screen's hardware is made?
Thank you very much!
S.
I've tried to change Threshold to 20 (dec) and I think that it's the same as before (350dec)
I've changed both of them(finger pressure and pressure threshold) to very high using Advanced Config. It is very sensible now and I am satisfied. I have also screenprotector(shipped with device) on the display. So sensible as my lovely old Himalaya.
Ever since I got my brand new HTC Touch Pro I noticed the screen to be way less sensitive than my girlfriend's iPhone.
For example in the Contacts app, when I use my finger to scroll down or up I find myself many times opening a contact rather than the screen scrolled down or up. Same goes for many other presses on the screen with the finger. I find myself using much more force than I naturally would use with an iPhone
I wonder if my unit is faulty requirming more pressure to the screen or maybe that just the way it should be by deisgn? I assume only users who used both iPhone and Touch Pro could answer that. I don't know anybody with Diamond or Touch pro so I have no way of checking it other than asking you guys.
Thanks
Iphone and Touch Pro use different types of touch screen.
We have Capasitive screen on iPhone which doesn't require pressure, just a touch.
And we have touch-resistive screens on most of Windows Mobile (inc. Touch Pro) which are less sensitive than iPhone...
Here is a link that might help: http://www.rycom.com.au/capvsres.htm
by the nature of the technology involved to sense your touch, the pro is less sensitive than the iphone.
the iphone uses a capacitive touchscreen which senses the electrical signal around your finger whereas the tp uses a resistive touchscreen which senses where your finger presses the screen in.
resistive screens are designed for sytli, and the "gestures" and flick scrolling implemented on many htc devices are a kind of fudged system to imitate gestures on the iphone. i know on my wizard i could adjust the touch scrolling sensitivity through schaps advanced configuration tool, but i'm not sure if you can do that with the touch pro. its all about how much force/speed you use on the TP.
i know you can get used to it, and it will function properly, but it is definitely different from the iphone. good luck!
Thanks guys. Both of your replies are most helpful. I began to fear that my unit had a fault in it. Seems to make sense that is how it works after I understand it. I most appreciate the responses. Thanks.

You will get better results using software designed from the ground up to be finger-friendly e.g. touchflo3d works well with only light pressure, and for contacts pocketcm also scrolls with only light pressure.

Surur
On the plus side, the Touch pro(and all other non-capacitance screens) are less picky. I noticed that if you use fingernails on an iPhone it will ignore you. you have to touch with your finger. Our screen will respond to anything that touches it...pen, fingernail, rock. There are +/- s to both. Just have to get used to the change.
yeah pocketcm is great for scrolling also there is pointui if you dont like touchflo that is a free app that redoes the interface all scrolling too
and i usually use my fingernail for most stuff instead of my finger

I used a metal key depth gauge, and though it felt smooth, it put a nice scratch on the screen. It was a new replacement, and I hadn't got the screen protector yet. Good thing I'm not an anal OCD-head
Stylus' (Styli?) seem to be out of fashion at the moment, but they are far more accurate for doing work in spreadsheets and other applications with lots of data on the screen.

agreed, i have no problem being a "geek" and whipping out the stylus, especially when it magnetically snaps back in
is there a way of using stylus in capacitive screens?
Our fingers eletricity shouldnt be conducted through the stylus metal and reach the screen? Why it doesnt work?
is it true that HTC G1 is capacitive?
G1 is capacitive
Its not so much conducting electricity, more of eminating an electric field. i know there are certain "silver fingered" gloves that let you use the ipod/iphone with gloves on, and i would guess that there are capacitive styli as well, but i havent gone searching one out.

I have been whipping it out in public since the Palm 3.
I sometimes feel that Windows Mobile doesn't make the best use of Stylus input compared to Palm OS (tap a time to create a new appointment for example) but both zip along compared to finger presses on the iPhone for most serious work.

it's due to the resistive touchscreen. it's less sensitive than the capacitive screen in the iphone.
but the touch pro screen is actually less sensitive than other htc resistive touchscreens such as the kaiser. it's much less sensitive e.g. near the edges of the screen because of the bezel underneath, you need to press harder at the edges to get it to register a touch.
I'm convinced that the screen is slightly out of calibration - but I can see no way to reset the calibration. (I'm ex WinMo!) - it must be in there somewhere - or do i need "an app for that".
Advice appreciated
G.
I was also thinking this. Unfortunately I still have not bought the phone yet, or I would of tried creating an app to test this theory. If a touch can be captured in x/y data, we could see what the problem is with the bottom row keys.

The more I use the phone, I'm starting 2 think that the screen is not so much out of calibration, but is very sensitive 2 the angle that U touch the screen. when I use 2 hands 2 use the phone, It seems 2 always respond correctly
cause my finger is touching straight down, but if I use 1 hand and try 2 reach
across the it responds off a lil at times. 2 solve this I put the phone 2 the end of my
fingers and secure it as far from my thumb as possible. awkward at first 4 me be it responds correctly when I do. Hope this is clear and helps U. I do have big hands though.

I might know what you are talking about. At times I can't slide home screens when using the phone with one hand and it can get very annoying, but I blame myself rather than this wonderful phone.
I also remember my wife using the phone while it was flat on the desk and it would not respond properly, but as soon as it was picked up and did the same procedures it would work properly. We were thinking that It may have something to do with the angle of the phone and our fingers on the screen. Dont really know I just know how to get it working.
Have you guys rooted and enabled multi-touch?
If not, are you sure this isn't to do with the lack of multi-touch. On my N1 I have the same problem when using it with one hand. And I've noticed it's because part of my palm sometimes touches the screen as I'm holding the phone. As theres no multi-touch it won't register what I'm selecting with my thumb until my palm stops touching the screen.
At first I suspected it was an issue with the screen responsiveness/calibration aswell. Because as you try and tap with your thumb a few times, eventually you move your palm and it works.
However, then I took a closer look everytime it happened, and noticed part of my palm was always touching the screen.
Obviously this doesn't happen when you use two hands as usually you will then hold the phone with your fingertips, not by wrapping your hand around it.

Dude, thanks for using your first post on us.
I think you are correct about the palm touching the screen. I have rooted and installed the modaco custom ROM, but I have not installed anything else for multi-touch. I will definitely look into this, thanks.

No problem.
Coming from an iPhone it was not something I ever thought about, so was quite releaved when I figured out why it was happening.
Was on here looking for widgets when I spotted this so thought I'd register and save you scratching your head trying to figure it out like I did.
Lots of stuff to love about the phone, especially the battery life which I'm really impressed with and hadn't even expected to be a plus point over the 3GS. This was just supposed to be a stop gap until the iPhone 4G, but I'm actually thinking I may stick with it now

If you stick with it then welcome to android.
If you don't then you just need to have fun with this phone.
I've been finding ways around the major niggles I had over the last couple of weeks. So it's looking promising that I won't be splashing out for another iPhone in June/July.
It helps that my brother has one and I've had some time to play with it and get everything the way I want it. Which is part of the reason I got it now. If it had been during a really busy period (work wise), i'd probably be back on the 3GS.
I put a screen protector on my g tab and, of course, it reduced the sensitivity of the touch screen (I hoped it wouldnt when I bought it, but was prepared it would). Anyway, I know with some windows phones there are registry tweaks that can increase sensitivity. Is there any thing I can do to increase the g tab touch screen sensitivity (aside from taking off the screen protector)?
I saw this post, but haven't tried it yet: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9774374&postcount=27

You might want to try this. Works great! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=934500
Thanks. I tried it... jury is still out on it's effectiveness.
i tried this also a little while ago and i noticed a huge difference in response fromt the screen. i almost think this should be included as a step in the custom rom guides, it worked that good for me.
Hi,
My aunt dropped her one s which shattered the screen completely.
I ordered a replacement screen and followed a video guide on how to replace it
(i've replaced screens on other phones before so I thought I could manage )
The screen turns on, but it does not respond to touch... Any ideas on what I should check or what I might have done wrong?
It would be great to be able to give her the phone back as a christmas present so any help would be very much appreciated!
Thanks and happy holidays!
Sorry for the late response, so I don't know if this still pertinent to you, but did you replace just the screen or the whole screen + digitizer? If only the screen, the digitizer might be broken making the touchscreen not work hope this helped
No problem
I changed both:
