Touchflow 3d WEATHER BUG - Touch Pro, Fuze General

hi, i have had this annoying thing with the touch flow weather
1. i do not use a data plan
2. if you update weather on activesync (as with spbweather), everything seems ok. You can click the 5 day button and see the weather
HOWEVER, if you wait a few hours until the 5 day view becomes a little (out of date)
as soon as you click on it, it no longer goes to the 5 day but tries to connect to the internet with the data plan. This is very annoying because i can not look at 5 day weather again until i get home and update it.
this could probably be fixed pretty easily to show just a day missing in 5 day view if it is not up to date.

If you go to the setting page on TF3D and go to data, you can disable the downloading of weather.

here is something else i notice with that app, if its very early in the morning about 3am or 2am the hi's will be the same as the current temp, WTH??? thats very unrelible, i also notice the degree's is off a bit by about 2

''GPS lock touch pro /att fuze SOLVED BY ME'' 3 to 6 second lock. DAMN I AM GOOD. LOL

Ok people. By now everybody knows that the gps antenna sucks on touch pro or fuze. We have tried almost everything and I have done all the reading and I am so surprised that no one has really solved this but me.
I can get a gps lock in about 3 to 6 seconds all day long. All you have to do is to either disable the manila and have a regular today screen or get the program called second today from xda site (If you like to have the manila 3d stuff on your phone which I do) and once you are done, then install gps today ( get that from geoterrestrial.com).
Once you install the program (ITS FREE PEOPLE) then just set it to auto by clicking on the red rectangle thing on the left side to turn the gps on. The first time will take about a minute or two to lock and once its done, you will be able to get a lock in about 3 to 6 seconds. It is very fast and accurate. It is a good idea to go to its setting and set up everything the first time to make the lock as fast as possible.
By the way you will need to get the plugin version not the full version ( it means that it will be a little plug in on your today screen about 4 icons).
I use this method to get a quick lock and then i turn google map or tomtom on and they work like a charm. If you do a soft reset, it will take longer to get a lock because it doesn't keep any memory.
I have used xda for a long time and thought that I should give something back to my dudes and dudets. Thank you for all your hard work. Ben
If you have it on manual mode, it will not USE ANY BATTERY AT ALL SO DON'T WORRY.
Here is new information for my people. For faster cold fix before using gps today update your quickgps. that will get gps today working in a cold start really fast. thanks

I should probably start by saying that I've only had my Touch Pro since Christmas, and am still getting to grips with it, but I've not seen the GPS issues that other people have reported.
Your solution to the problem simply keeps the GPS switched on all the time, and I think this may have a negative impact on battery performance. My wife has a Samsung Omnia i900 which has GPS issues in TomTom which can be fixed by installing GPSGate - however, unless you make it idle while nothing is using GPS, then it will keep the GPS active constantly (like your solution) and she noticed an increase in battery drain.
Cheers,
Steve.
I was concerned about that but even if you do automation off and turn it on manually (this way it will not affect your battery) it will still work flawlessly. I have tried it at least a hundred times over the last 2 months and this is the only way to get the lock fast.
All touch pros have this gps issue and if you try to get a lock with google map or tomtom alone it sometimes take over 5 minutes to get a lock. With my method it only takes a few seconds every time. this is important for people who use their gps all the time to find addresses or sales people on the road who don't want to prey for minutes to get a fast lock. thanks

ok sooooo im not trying to burst your bubble as i would love to have a 3 to 6 sec connect time but if use google maps or tomtom to connect for the first time then close out and open it right back up you will get about the same 3 to 6 second connect time when is what the app does..... sorry
not really, even if you have gotten a lock with google maps or tomtom and you try turning it on a few hours later, sometimes it takes 5 minutes or more to get a lock. There was a time that I had to stand in the street with my phone facing the sky and praying to get a lock and that was embarassing.
In some cases I didn't get a lock at all even after a few minutes since there were some tall buildings around me (downtown los angeles) trust me I have gone through all that and I was going crazy over this issue. I have tried it all because I need the gps lock all day long for my job. The gps today program uses a different method to get a lock. I don't know what it does but whatever it does, it works. thanks
try it ITS FREE. what have you got to loose? you will thank me.
by the way Steve, it does not keep the gps on all the time. It only turns on for a few seconds, gets a lock and turns off (on the auto). thanks
Fair enough - I'm not sure how it would manage to get a lock indoors. I guess I must be lucky though, as I've never had to wait anything like 5 minutes for a lock. I do use QuickGPS, but not AssistedGPS, and don't seem to have to wait very long for a lock at all (if I'm outside).
do you realize what kind of "solution" you give?
you keep GPS always open (you can do that without second today and a GPS today program - you can use GPSGate or keep any GPS program on at all times)
this is dramatic for the battery
this is not a solution, just a bad trick - sorry
I usually get locked in around 15 seconds without turning off anything- I'm using "Automapa 5"- Polish map for mobile devices, works quite fine and locks 10x faster then my hiking GPS (but it's old.. ;p)
Thanks Ben1do1. I just now installed both SecondToday and GPSToday. Your solution works great on my FUZE. Now I can unsubscribe to AT&T Navigator. The only way I used to be able to get TomTom Navigator 6 to get a fix was to run AT&T Navigator (telenav) first.
GPSToday is very configurable and doesn't drain the battery as badly as StevePritchard fears. You can simply disable auto-fix and only do occasional manual quick-fixes just to keep your gps "primed".
below is from the FAQ. http://geoterrestrial.com/faq/
"What does it do to my device's battery life?
In the default configuration, GPSToday will typically reduce your battery life by 10-15% over the course of a day. This much is usually not an issue for the vast majority of users. To have full control over battery consumption, you can disable the automatic periodic quick-fix functionality via Map>Settings. The more frequently you update your fix or run the GPS in persistent mode, the more it will affect battery life."
There you go guys now we are cooking. just turn off the auto and you will not loose any battery. I had sooooo much fun with my gps today and got locks in some cases in 2 seconds. I could not believe my own eyes. Please keep in mind that you need to be outside or close to a big window so that the gps can lock. Enjoy.
I personally think that this thread should be on the wiki and also for the new fuze or diamond owners with the same gps problem. thanks everyone
There's only one way to get a 6 second lock: GPS Hot start. That means that 80% of the birds from the last lock must still be in the sky.

did you disable the agps as it would be enabled if you were using at&t navigator... disable it and try tomtom im sure it will work
FYI
FYI - the current version of GPSToday can be installed as *either* a today plugin or standalone app.
i must say that i was sceptic about it but it definitively works for me.
I used to have fixes between 5-10 minuts but with GPStoday i have them nearly instantly, 10-15 sec. Thanks Ben1Do1
Not to cut in but maybe FusionGPSFix can help a little in the same way too.
i cant seem to find the stand alone app... both are today plugs and that's useless in touchflo 3d
I'm beginning to think TouchFlo3D is the problem. I somewhat used what was recommended above. I turned off TF3D and just made a normal today screen in Windows Mobile. I loaded Visual GPS and within less than 10 seconds, I had GPS coordinates. I then turned on TF3D, rebooted (just to make sure everything was cleared out), loaded VisualGPS, it took around 3 1/2 minutes to get a lock. I have repeated these steps several times and every time I do, I almost immediately get VisualGPS to work when TF3D is disable. Someone that knows more about the "internals" of TF3D may can answer this better, but in my testing and troubleshooting that I've done that seems to be the only thing that is making it now work...
erm you are wrong
the first one has a stand alone mode and the second is ONLY in stand alone mode (you don't SEE something happening - it just runs)
After some days trying this the GPSToday Trick i must say it fantastic, really!
before:
first day fix in 5-10 mintutes (AGPS OFF / QGPS ON)
subsequent fixes 3-5 minutes (AGPS OFF / QGPS ON)
with GPS today
first day fix in 20-30 sec (AGPS OFF / QGPS ON)
subsequent fixes 6 seconds (AGPS OFF / QGPS ON)
I don't have the tool always on, i manually turn GPS with this tool whenever i need the GPS.
Try it!

Beautiful Widgets Issue

So, I have been running Beautiful Widgets on my MyTouch 3G 1.2 with Cyanogen Mod 5.0.8-t1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=673394). So far I love the way that the widget looks, but I have been having an issue with it. I have noticed it a few times where when Beautiful Widgets updates the weather based on my current location, the GPS never turns off. I can get it to stop by killing the app in Advanced Task Killer, but then the time/weather does not update until i refresh it by clicking on the weather icon in the widget, and then it doesn't turn off again. Issue is, It likes to turn on while in my locker at work (I turn on Airplane mode to conserve power. I have been able to go a 9 hour shift and have roughly 85%-90% battery left, on the days that Beautiful Widgets decides to cooperate. Other days, like today, I'm at ~50% 4 hours into my shift, due to the GPS being stuck on.) I have tried disabling the GPS location, and it still does it. Also tried rebooting my phone, which has fixed it before, but didn't work today. I finally resorted to removing the widget from my home screen and that has worked so far. I would love to buy the app on the market (Currently using version 2.992 which I found in a ROM pack), but I don't want to spend the money on it if it will not fix this issue. I have tried multiple versions of the app, and it has been doing the same thing.
Any ideas?

[Q] Nexus S stock 2.3.4 and how to check keep-awake culprits

Hey guys,
N00b here.
I've read the n00b guide and also searched around in the forum. I did find a thread similar to mine however I couldn't really get any useful info out of it and maybe since then new tools are available to help me track my problem, so I post my question.
So... on to it...
My Nexus S is suddenly having high keep-awake times. About phone tells me a battery usage of 32% android system, followed by 21% Display. Android system has a keep awake time of 3h 51m and a CPU total of 7m 52s. All this over the course of 19 hours. I don't have a screenshot with me but it's clear that the phone is awake a lot when the screen is off.
Automatic updates are off.
Some days ago everything was fine. My google acount is only synching contacts and calendar and even that is turned off when I'm not at home. Even so, I saw a high usage of the keep-awake bar even when the screen was off.
I've installed some weather widgets and battery info widgets and the update cycles of weather applications are around 45 mins so I wouldn't see a reason for such a high period of keep-awake cycles.
Anyway, each phone is a phone, is there an application that can tell you what is keeping the phone awake ? I have installed Watchdog lite but it doesn't show anything abnormal. I've installed Spare Parts Plus but it can't show me the battery usage history because apparently stock 2.3.4 Gingerbread doesn't support it.
So now I'm stick with trying to disabled notifications on one app, remove its widget and see if it helps. If it doesn't.. go to the next. This is quite tedious work really.
Still the battery life is ok I guess... 50% after 19 hours however I haven't played around with it much but I would be happier to have a low keep-awake cycle for the Android System like I had some days ago.. makes me feel like everything is fine
Thanks for any hints guys!
Having the same issue as well.. I have my widgets and such to only check every 4-6 hours, but the awake time in the battery stats is nearly on all the time.
Keep awake time is 4 hours and 22 min, out of 12 hours of battery. I'm left with 42 % battery with only 1 hr 15 min on screen time (texts and such, no games).
Hmmm a memory drain of 60% in 1 hour is quite a bit heavy. I would suggest you to download Watchdog lite from the app store and use it's real time CPU analyzer to try and see what's consuming the most.
Once I had weatherbug going rogue. But then it showed up in the battery usage list with a high CPU usage and clicking on the item I could see a high awake time so I uninstalled it.
At the moment I've removed some of my widgets and so far it seems to be OK. However tonight I had some weird awake times again. I uninstalled Battery Info widget from the phone and I'll see if it all goes well tonight. Then I'll start to activate the other widgets I had deactivated before to see what happens.
Also I downloaded aCatLog from the app store. Pretty interesting tool... you can see what's going on in the logs. I see a few Java exceptions every now and then.. never a good sign as they might not be handled properly by the application code that threw them. I see evernote synch problems, a data traffic counter throwing exceptions and K-9 to have problems with idle connection reset by peer. And I often see the garbage collector working. But I assume all this is normal. Switching to the event log it's too much information to absorve. Nevertheless I haven't seen in any of those logs an explicit request or grant of a system wake lock.

Do I need to download Terminal Emulator from the market to do this ? Or do I need to download the Android SDK and connect to the device via USB ? I need to check out to do this, never done it before and this is my first android phone.. only a week old
Again this morning my awake time was on for quite a bit (I guess 1 hour). I got an extract of the main log...
Some things are curious, the following occurs more or less each half hour. I am signed out of gtalk why was the service trying to keep alive ?
06-08 06:10:03.656 W/GTalkService( 189): [GTalkConnection.18] doConnect: caught XMPPError connecting to mtalk.google.com:5228.: (502)
06-08 06:10:03.656 W/GTalkService( 189): -- caused by: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Connection timed out
06-08 06:10:03.660 D/GTalkService( 189): [GTalkConnection.18] connectionClosed: connId=0, error=CONNECTION FAILED
This is also giving me trouble, I might uninstall my Traffic Counter app
06-08 06:42:30.710 W/System.err( 4015): java.io.FileNotFoundException: /data/data/com.carl.trafficcounter/app_pref_bytes_last/0_0_bytes_last (No such file or directory)
Evernote seems to have some issues as well sometimes
06-08 06:44:36.371 I/com.evernote.android.edam.TAndroidHttpClient( 5320): 25: Response received in: 126718ms
06-08 06:44:36.398 E/com.evernote.client.SyncService( 5320): Sync failed
06-08 06:44:36.398 E/com.evernote.client.SyncService( 5320): org.apache.thrift.transport.TTransportException: java.net.UnknownHostException: www.evernote.com
And that's all I could see. Everything else seems to be garbage collection WiFi activities and what not..
It seems that I've narrowed down Go Weather as what's making my Android System stay awake. I couldn't see anything really useful on logcat about this but empiric observations seem to confirm it.
If I remove the Go Weather widget and turn off it's background updates (hourly), then restart the phone... I see the Android System incrementing some 3-4 mins keep awake time per hour. If I set the widget again and turn on Go Weather's background updates, after an hour the Android System keep awake time goes up like 15-20 mins or so. If at this point I remove the Go Weather widget and turn off it's background updates, the Android System keep awake will still go up at the same rate as if the Widget was there. If I restart the phone without the widget, then the Android System keep awake seems to increase back to regular 3-4 mins per hour.
The funny thing is that according to Permission Dog, Go Weather doesn't even use the WAKE permission so I would rule it out as what was keeping Android System awake.
Android System was driving me crazy too. I figured out that when my WiFi was enabled, it would continually keep the phone awake when the screen was off. So I just toggle the wifi off when I'm not using it, and android system behaves now.
I'm curious as to what changed though, because when I was using stock 2.3.4 and CM7.0.3 I would leave wifi on all day, and android system didn't cause any battery issues.

Battery Test Result

Hi Friends,
While HTC EVO 3D fellows looking for tips how to increase battery time here in the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1141221
I decided and checked my own LG-3D P920 . here are results (after 100% charged with adopter.)
Before test , i made sure followings
1 - 2G Data set to enabled all times
2 - GMail Sync Set and receives and send emails As soon as arrive
3 - Facebook account set
4 - Hotmail Account set to sync as push mail.
so all above done to use 2G non-stop. Now what I did with phone during test time
Made 30 minutes phone calls
15 SMS Received
10 SMS Sent
30 Minutes browsing & email reading
05 3D pictures captured
02 2D pictures captured
Viewing the pictures new and older ones- 10 minutes
Watched 10 minutes 3D pre-installed clips at phone
Played with phone ,like phone settings , check battery status several times - 10 minutes
Now phone is still alive after 65 hrs. still 8% battery remaining but going to charge to avoid any problem.
So what you think now, which worth more ? white elephant or black horse ???
Please don't forget to share your experience with Battery Time.
8% left after 65 hours is not so bad. I get two or maybe two and a half days and I don't take much photos, send/receive SMS or watch 3D content.
The only thing my LG is doing at the moment is syncing gmail, calendar and contacts as well as hotmail push. But over 3G, not 2G. Right now it's at 57% after 20 hours.
I'm using TiaiZO3D 1.5.1 and I removed the stock LG Home completely and replaced it with ADW Launcher. That seems to reduce battery usage a little bit (at least in Standby).
I never use WiFi and GPS only rarely. Screen is set to Auto Brightness.
65 hours its nice, i have this phone like 5 days now and my battery no longer last 16-20 hours with mid use. im gonna check the link and post my results.

I think , Launcher pro will increase the battery time but I wanted to test with default.
One thing i noticed:
In my Battery Usage statistics there used to be that entry "Android System" always hangin around 70%
Since I removed the LG Home Launcher for good and started using ADW Launcher, Android System floats around 10%
And I really have the impression that battery life increased slightly by switching launchers.
On 10k my android system is around 5% before it was in the high 70's.

Location Services problems

I am experiencing 2 issues that I've been having since the first day I got the phone Nov 8th. Location services keeps showing me as being in a city 300 miles away on the complete opposite side of the state I live in. Also when I leave the clock set to auto time it will intermittently show a time that is 6 hours ahead which screws up a bunch of my Tasker profiles as well as clock alarms. It did it on stock as well as every version of SlimKat since alpha 1.1. I never had these issues with my previous phone on the same network(Sprint). Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this???
