I bough a TyTN (hermes) and i was wondered about why it dont has audio port... 3.5 or 2.5... somebody sold me a convereter miniUSB to 3.5 the same port 11 PIN USB that my TyTN has but... it dont works...
Does anybody knows the configuration pins...??? i see a config for 11 PIN on a forum called Tracy and matt's blog USB EUM configurations pins... but... maybe it dont shows the real thing. any other source...?
htc doesn't use a plain mini usb plug they use ext-usb. Its a special type of plug. I don't know the pins but i do have the adapter and so therefore i know you can get an adapter to turn it into a headphone jack.
Here is an example of one... mine is a bit simpler with just the headphone jack but this will give you an idea.
Yep i saw this model... too...

Is there any way to do this through the power slot (cigarette lighter)? Thanks.
No lol, you will need some sort of connection to your headunit (either via bluetooth [ad2dp] or usb or a line in or something else along those lines)
I use a fm-transmitter in my car for this, there are several different types of transmitters ( bt, cable ).
Just search for fm-transmitters for mp3 players.
Here are some options http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426599

The connector looks different, the one on the Diamond is flat on the left side and that one isn't?

Well, suprise, suprise.
Actually, the mini-USB connector fits Diamond connector though they may seem to be different.

the Mini-USB is exactly the same as HTC's variation, the only difference is the outside shape, the HTC one is cut down. Both fit perfectly.
for the car buy Parrot MK6000 , it's cheap an has a great stereo sound ...
i use the cassette adapter with a mini-usb to female 3.5mm stereo adapter... works great

I just received the FMtalk NT-039_DP (bought it from Ebay) and it DOES NOT charge the diamond when pluged in. The transmitter seems to work well. I have yet to try the phone with it.
I use one of those tape adapters connected to the HTC remote. Works really well as a hands free kit also. Bonus!!
first off beware of belkin just took my back fin horrible if any thing get a kensington hundred if not thousands of times better
I use the y cable which splits the mini usb on the bottom of the diamond to a 3.5mm plug and a mini usb. I then use a car charger into the mini usb to charge the phone while a 3.5mm to phono cable plugs into the back of my head unit, allowing for music, calls and sat nav to all go through the car speakers. Works well and the people say they can here me clearly when using it as a hands free kit.
i use the motorolla T505 acts as a speakerphone and fm transmitter
Hi guys...!!!
I got a bit excited seeing my normal micro usb cable works with the touch pro. I just plugged it in for fun but it actually detected the cable and even my pc recognised the touch pro...
Did you guys know about it???
Just thought of sharing this piece of info with you all...

yes... lol
thanks anyway!
Worked with all of the HTC devices I've used so far (Universal, Kaiser, Artemis, and Raphael) - still good to mention, though.
ROFL!!
And BTW: It's MiniUSB, not MicroUSB.
this must be a joke..seriously lol
the htc usb plug (the 3 way audio/charger/tvout) isc alled a "non standard mini usb" and your normal mini usb is a "standard" the only function the non standard plug utilizes is all the audio/headset controls (the bottom 5 pins) while he top 4 (associated with the standard mini usb functions) control the + and - voltages and data transfer. so one would naturally assume and realize that ANY mini usb would work And the fact that the wall charger that comes with any htc device utlizes the standard mini usb design so its a no brainer..
Sorry, dint know that you all knew about it... Lol...
is this your first htc device?
It's the simple things we take for granted...
Yeah this is my 1st HTC device... I am still learning and just reading and getting to know this beast slowly... Lol...
HTC has a different name for it, they call it: HTC ExtUSB™!
Besides the PRO, the other PDA that I had was the Qtek S200 and it had a "normal" miniUSB connection.
n00b.
hey, guess what...I can press buttons on the screen with my finger!
(sorry dude, don't mean to offend you or anything really......its just that such posts are hard to come by and its beyond my ability to control the evil side in me)
Akash,
I can understand your surprise. I remember just a few HTC devices ago, (maybe the SX66), you had to know the pinout for the cable for the exact device. To make matters worse, many different cables with the same looking connector, had opposing pinouts. So you could actually fry your device plugging in a lookalike cable.
So remember, don't be afraid to jump in on any topic here.
I'm trying to get mini-USB cables from monoprice... how many pins does the mini-B connector have?
monoprice has 4 pin, 5 pin, 8 pin, 14 pin usb->mini b cables.
Hey guys
long story that i wont bore you with but I need to find out a HTC phone that has a normal 5 pin mini-usb slot, uses this for its headphones AND has a break-out cable (3.5mm slot halfway up it for normal headphones).
Can anyone help with this please?
NOTE: I dont want the 11pin ENHANCED mini-usbversion like on the touch-diamond. I want the version with two slanted sides, not one square and one slanted.
I don't think a 5 pin usb could carry audio as well. USB has wires for data+, data-, power+, and power-, and then the audio would need wires for left, right and earth, and another for a mike.
My old wizard had a 5 pin USB, and it had a separate 2.5mm headphone/headset socket.
yeah they can and do, its just the headphones that come with the Acer are S*&t but they do operate over mini-usb.
Thanks though, that probably means the Wizards not setup to pump audio over its mini-usb, i'll avoid that one then
My Uni has it
Thank you. I'll check them out on Ebay
the designers at htc should be clubbed on the head for their enhanced mini usb connector.
3.5mm audio + mini usb - that's what it always should have been.
I cant understand why would you want a standart mini usb if - "standart mini usb" works with "htc enchanted mini usb" --- I personaly have a standart mini usb for my Touch HD to use with PC and enchanted usb for charging it - it doesnt bother me that they are different they both do the same<- or am I missing something?
im just curious!
Lets put a couple of things straight...
1) standard mini-usb absolutely can NOT carry (non-digital) audio, no matter what some people in this thread think/claim. It simply CAN'T BE DONE.
If some device *DOES* have audio over mini-usb plug, then despite its shape, it is NOT USB. I *have* seen devices *misuse* the physical plugs it has.
2) The non-standard plug used by HTC is *fully compatible* with existing USB wires.
3) Because of (1) and (2), there is no use whatsoever for a standard USB plug to be on the device. It simply does not matter that there are extras in the plug.

Wow, jump down the throat there.... nice guy obviously.
I can think of a way it can be done ......

edit:
Would you like to also clarify how any of the 3 mini-usb cables (from various sources) work fine with the phone and PC and then can be swapped out for the Acer headset which is through the same mini-usb port? If it was a non-normal port then as you say, its unlikely the other generic cables would work.....

Agreed (sort of)... just a bit worried that you keep saying "standard" though, you do mean a standard MINI-usb right? But agreed, there is simply no justification for not having a 3.5mm jack .... its madness and a madness not just confined to HTC sadly

I think, if im reading you right, your looking at it the wrong way round
The phone I have has a STANDARD mini usb. I think your saying your phone has an ENHANCED mini usb port (guess that answers the above about them not fitting/fitting). And ENHANCED wont fit in MY STANDARD and the only HTC phones I could find had ENHANCED.
My thinking was that if I could find a HTC that had a 5pin mini-usb, I could try one of those remotes - im getting desperate!

It appears that you use a 3.5mm jack for your audio and not the Mini-usb
I could be wrong as its an old product and the only info I can find is on PDADB. Can any Universal owners confirm this? If it uses a 3.5mm jack for audio then its mini-usb cable is useless to me and I won't bother ordering one.

Yes, you are right
I´m sorry I got confused with the question
The 'enchanted' mini USB is total crap. Just check out the thread about people reporting problems because the looseness caused the little pins to be bent.
HTC should just put in a mini usb for data and power and a 3.5mm for audio.

Ordered this one as its a UK seller and will be much quicker.
However, im now temtped to start my own personal campaign against Acer and keep sending the phone back to them over and over again until they fix the Black Screen Of Death issue.... why do companies release phones with this common fault? Do they not use there own phones? I simply don't believe this can escape QA testing.
I got some problems with my usb connector and now it's broken. Does anyone know where to buy a HTC mini usb plug, so I can repair my RC E100
You can use any mini usb cable, even the dollar store around here has them (not sure how trusty they would be, but anyway...)
Unless you are talking about the connector on the actual Diamond, then I'd say ebay or to look on cnn.cn maybe.
Hi guys,
I bricked my G1 recently and am going to try to Unbrick using the guide on cyanogen's wiki.
One requirement is the debug serial cable, but here in India I haven't been able to get my hands on the ExtUSB breakout. I do have a mini usb breakout. Could I use that instead?
The pins I need are:
1 VCC
2 Ground
3 tx
4 rx
The pins available on the mini usb breakout are:
A +5V
B -Data
C +Data
D N/C
E Ground
Pretty obviously:
1 -> A
2 -> E
Goggling tx and rx, I think they mean data in and out but not sure. Anybody have any advice?

ExtUSB is backwards compatible with mini USB: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Serial_Bus
I have several mini USB cables, some with a Type A male connector on the other end, others with a wall plug end, and still some with the cigarette lighter adapter end. They all work with the G1. The 2 extra pins on the ExtUSB are for sound only.
Xsite_01 said:
It's compatible just for charging and file tranfer but for serial interface are not compatible. You are accesing serial interface trough extra audio pins, so you can buy G1 headphones and make htc serial cable. Headphone yes, charger no.

Ah, when I saw serial I thought, "why is he calling a USB cable by only part of it's name" (universal serial bus). I misunderstood the post and did not think he was talking about an actual serial/RS232 connection.
So as to try to contribute something to OP, have you tried looking at this? http://www.instructables.com/id/Android-G1-Serial-Cable/
I was doing some study connect my serial GPS (gives TTL level serial signals) to HTC P3400 WM. Found out about G1 cable in instructables and other materials that explained how to use serial ports in HTC mobiles. I came across a very cheap "adapter" in a roadside shop in Chennai - one end of this one goes into the mini usb and the other end provides a 3.5mm stereo audio jack. I grabbed one of them and surprised to find that it did not have the moulded rubber connector. I opened the plastic case and found that I can easily solder pins 7,8 and 9. I will be testing this over the week end!
Thanks for the info Xsite_01, i think i can find some headphones to cut up and give it a try.
If smpncrc's adaptor works, i'd love to get my hands on it in delhi.
Thanks for all the info guys
