mda compact iv rom upgrade - General Questions and Answers

tried to upgrade with 1.93WWE, 3 different versions and the sync keeps disconnecting as soon as i push the load button and error 262 appears when finish with 0%
, it never loads i follow the rom load for newbies directions, is there a better rom file where do i down load it from and what am i doing wrong

Are you using your computer to flash the new rom or the sd card method

i tried my laptop with vista and my pc with xp the mda compact doesn't have expandable memory it comes with 4g built in

Somtimes, a flash requires that once the bootloader comes up you uplug the device, disable activesync and then replug.
Try that out and let me know how it goes.... i'll do a search on that error code and see what i can find. There used to be a list somewhere around here.

ERROR [262] : UPDATE ERROR
This error occurs during the CE ROM code upgrade process.
Solution: If this happens, you can just soft-reset the device and run RUU again. The update process will then continue.
Note: At this stage, the Wince is destroyed; instead, it is in upgrade mode.
The error codes can be found here:
http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/windows-mobile-faq/13329-ruu-errors.html

yes i tried that several times with no success, it just drops the connection every time i push the load the rom button, 262 error is a connection error

Have you tried it again on the xp computer..... Also try disabling advaced connection in usb connection setting
settings--- connections--- usb to pc

i try that too with no success, i just keep losing my connection as soon as i try to download the updated rom

the Culprit is Vista, read this guide i compiled to Upgrade via Vista
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428469
the most important is the Drivers

well after doing more reading (what i should have done in the begining) after having problems tring to flash my rom with my pc and laptop i ended up flashing my compact iv with the internal storage memory and the step by step couldn't have been easier. successful flash the first time thanks to the help from this site. i will de making my donation

thanks xda-developers i'm a beginer to flashing fones but no to flashing

Bad news, my PDA likes yours, it cannot flash any rom now...
It's possible to revive them...but you'll need a special SD Card Image ROM...
Google a little bit about .nbh images, SD Rom Boot images, etc.
Once you have this special SD Card ROM Boot image prepared, you put it on the phone, put the phone in bootloader mode (camera + power + reset),and check the screen: - a message will appear telling you to "press power to flash", and you do it. Let it flash and reboot.
Magician revived.

The file header of the SD Card ROM must be the same of my magician ROM, isn't it? Now the problem is I can't get the header of my magician ROM, when I use "d2s" command the magician dead.
Well i don't quite get what you mean by "header of Magician ROM"....i assume that you are refering to the bootloader...what version do you have? Does it says 1.2 or 1.0? Have you tried to flash a different bootloader from a different model or something?
Anyway, I don't quite get what is your problem exactly - Is it with the Radio part or windows part? Does the WM2003se boots or not ?
- If your problem is only with the WM2k3 not booting, then you must upgrade only with a ROM image for the OS (nk.nbf) - (Try and use an original ROM first...don't you use cooked ROMs.)
- If it's both WM2K3 and radio, then you need to put the nk.nbf and radio_.nbf on the same directory where the MaUpgradeUt.exe is.
- If you also want to upgrade your Extended ROM, then beside both files mentioned, you also need to have the ms_.nbf.
Anyway, regarding the radio part: try this: google for "MagicianRadio_1.13.00_maupgrade"
Finally: don't forget that you need to download and use the "MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe" or the magician will complain about the country code error + some BS.

Keeper
I heard that the front 416 bytes of SD card ROM image must be the same as the PDA, and then can falsh it. The front 416 bytes of every PDA ROM are different, so I must get my magician ROM header (416B), but I cannot.
My magician can boot, but cannot be flashed a new rom. The error code returned to me is "Get Device Data Error".
btw, the bootloader is v1.02, how can I reflash a new bootloader? I don't know how to do that, maybe it can resolve the problem.
Forget about changing the bootloader - you could end up with a brick on your hands...besides, that's the latest (final?) version of the bootloader for magicians.
Anyway, that message seems to be related to usb data transfer between your pc and your phone...you DID disabled the "Allow USB Connections" on ActiveSync BEFORE TRYING to do an upgrade, didn't you?
If you use windows Vista, there's a known problem when trying to flash a new ROM with it...
check this link on how to use vista for ROM upgrades: http://mahmood1.com/upgrade_pocket_pc_ruu_in_vista.aspx

My system is Windows XP, thank you all the same.
Okey, try this:
1) Download this image: http://www.t-mobile.nl/zakelijk/media/download/MA_TMNL_11300_132_11200_Ship.exe
(It's an original image from T-Mobile).
2) Extract the .exe content using winrar.
You will get the following files:
- EnterBL.exe
- GetDeviceData.exe
- RUU.dll
- RUU.conf
- UI.dll
- ROMUpgradeUt.exe
- nk.nbf
- ms_.nbf
- radio_.nbf
3) Delete the ms_.nbf, radio_.nbf and ROMUpgradeUt.exe files.
4) donwload this file: ftp://xda:[email protected]/Magician/Tools/MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe ...and put it on the above directory.
5) disable ActiveSync "allow usb connections".
6) put your phone in bootloader mode
7) run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe and let it finish. (It may take some time...)
8) hard reset your phone.
Now, if you want to try to upgrade just the radio, repeat the above steps but delete the nk.nbf from that directory and and put a radio_.nbf there.
NOTE: You WILL loose everything that you've got stored on your phone...contacts, sms, etc...so do a backup 1st if you want.

Keeper
It not worked. The RUU.log is this:
00:01:01:890 [msg] : Version : [1.5.0].
00:01:01:890 [msg] : Config Info : [776571],[1],[1],[0].

00:02:48:281 [err] : BL Get Device Data Error.
00:02:48:281 [msg] : Update Image. CE : [4], MSystem : [0], Radio : [0]
I clicked "Upgrade" and it displayed "checking the information of your device..."...
Okey...the only way i see it, is to try an SD Card Upgrade.
I can try and craft you an image for your SD Card but i don't know if it will work on your SD Card... What's the size(s) of your SD Card (s)?
I don't want to e-mail you 1Gb image (i only have 1 and 2Gb SD Cards) and has so i need to do this ( http://buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=18&Itemid=41 )...which i've never tried...so let's hope that the SD Card header won't be a problem...
Anyway, i can't do it now...i'll pm you later on, when i get some free time.
Regards,
Keeper
Thank you.
I have a 2 GB SD Card, but it didn't work, I think the reason maybe the header of the SD Card Image not modified. But I cannot get the header of my PDA.
Okey, here we go.
Do this:
1) Download this Emergency SD Card image: http://rapidshare.com/files/56985459/Emergency_SD_Card_Image.rar.html
2) Download the NTRW in attachment
3) Format your SD Card using windows XP format option
4) Copy both files (ntrw.exe and SDCard.img) to your C:\
5) Open a dos command prompt and type: ntrw write SDCard.img <sd card reader drive letter>
( do note that <sd card reader drive letter> must be replaced with your own SD card reader drive letter...example: "ntrw write SDCard.img e:". Also do note that when writing to the SD Card, some errors might appear...ignore them...the image is/will be there in your SD Card)
6) Put your phone in bootloader mode
7) Connect the usb cable or power cord to your phone (This is a MUST! or you won't see the next step)
8) Insert the SD Card on your phone and check if the screen message changes to something like " Press power to flash "
9) Do has told: press the power button and WAIT! (if it seems to stop, leave it that way...it will eventually end the upgrade)
10) Hard reset your phone when the upgrade ends.
Note 1: This SD image and procedure was tested on my phone and it works. The image itself is an original T-Mobile ROM 1.13.
Tell me how it went.
Best Regards,
Keeper
Happy to hear you again. But I cannot download the image. I will try.
I do this step by step, but after I inserted the SD Card on my phone, the screen message didn't change, it was "USB V1.02", if I disconnected the usb cable, it changed to "Serial V1.02".
It can't be...This image is in perfect shape. you must be doing something wrong or your bootloader is damaged seriously...
check this out:
- Your USB cable must be connected to your PC and ALSO to the Magician.
- Check if ActiveSync USB option is disabled.
- If both of the above are true, leave the SD Card inside the mini, and press camera + power + reset button again...(i've read that sometimes the process doesn't work at the first time...)
- Try to disconnect and connect the USB cable from your magician, with the SD Card inserted on the phone...check is the message on the screen changes...
Please post what you have tried already...
If nothing works, that means that your bootloader is f* up. You'll have to wait a little bit more so to give me time to check how to prepare an SD image (or an alternative way) for upgrading your bootloader.
Keeper
It not worked.
I just did as what you said. If I pressed camera + power + reset button with the SD Card inside, the screen was not changed even if I connected / disconnected the usb cable; but if I pressed camera + power + reset button without the SD Card inside, and inserted SD Card under bootloader mode, the screen can change from "USB" to "Serial", but I didn't see " Press power to flash ".
I think my Magician bootloader was corrupted, because the screen showed nothing after I typed "d2s" in MTTY. But I don't know how to upgrate bootloader.
Thank you very much.
Now I find a new problem: I couldn't delete some fonts files stored in "/storage/fonts", even if I hard reset PDA. After I setup a new font named QooQooCN, I cannot uninstall it, seems wince.nls running. But I still cannot delete /storage/fonts/*.ttf files. Why? If this is the reason why I cannot reflash my PDA?
Need help.
Coly, here it is the 1.02 bootloader from my device. Put it on your formated sd card like explained previously. Reboot in bootloader mode with the sd card inserted and with the USB cable connected...see if now you can get the "press power to flash"
If it still doesn't work, we will have to crack the passwords for the bootloader debug mode.
anyway, post your results, please.

WP7 on hd2 problems

I recently attempted to install WP7 on my tmobile uk HD2,i followed a list of simple instructions but have ran into some problems! Below are the instructions i followed :
If you have had enough details and want to install Windows Phone 7 to your HD2 right away, you can refer to the videos for the download instructions. Though for those of you who have trouble following those instructions, here is what you will need to do:
1.Download the Windows Phone 7 ROM from the link given below and extract its contents to your computer.
2.Make sure that you have HARDSPL 2.08 installed as it is required before you can install MAGLDR in the next step. Also note that your radio needs to be 2.**.50.**. A recommended 2.15.50.14 radio can be found here.
3.Connect your HD2 to your computer via USB and run ‘ROMUpdateUtility.exe’ from the MAGLDR 1.2 folder at the location where you extracted the ROM in Step 1.
4.Follow the on-screen instructions to install MAGLDR on your HD2 and reboot your phone. Your phone will boot into MAGLDR now.
5.Navigate to the 5th option which says ‘USB Flasher’ using the volume-down key and press the green ‘call’ key to enter it.
6.Now run ‘DWI.exe’ from the folder where you extracted the ROM.
7.Read the information carefully and follow the on-screen instructions to flash the Windows Phone 7 ROM to your HD2.
8.Once the installation is complete, your phone will reboot into MAGDLR again. Use the volume-down button to the second option that says ‘Boot AD NAND’ and press the green ‘call’ button.
9.Your phone will now boot into the newly installed Windows Phone 7. The first boot may take a while. Follow the on-screen instructions to setup your Windows Phone 7 installation for the first time.
10.Follow this guide to get Live Services including Marketplace and XBox Live fully working on your device.
Congratulations – you now have Windows Phone 7 running natively on your HTC HD2. Though having to select the second option from MAGLDR every time you restart your phone to boot into Windows Phone 7 can be a hassle. Fortunately, you can set MAGLDR to automatically boot your phone into Android each time you restart it.
I got as far as step 8. My phone did not reboot as it says it will and now i cant do anything with the device apart from make calls from the WP7 os on my phone.
Can any1 help me progress from this problem or to enable me to further enable WP7.
If all else fails can someone post a dumb f**ks guide on how to get back to win 6.5?

[Completed] uleFone Vienna ROM Flash error (help!)

Hi,
I've bought you Hi-Fi device (from ba*****od.com), a Ulefone Vienna, which worked for only 11 days. I got several errors while tried to install apps from Google Play Store, but after a restart of the device the apps were installed without a problem.
But last Sunday, after another restart of the phone (because i wanted to install a new app), the phone gave me the following error message: "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped." (then I got only one option: to click OK. The phone is unusable now.)
I found a guide on uleFone official website how should I reinstall/update the device, but isn't working.
I'm stuck at the first step: "Driver Auto Installer". I'm using Win7 64bit, and I followed the instructions (i run the executable as administrator), but at install i get this message: "The system cannot find the path specified". Also after i tried to install the driver manually, in the device manager (Windows) my PreLoadter USB VCOM Port appears with a yellow sign (it says the driver is not digitally signed).
After this I tried the Flashing Tool i get this error:
"Warning: Maybe error as follows:
(1)COM ports number reoetitive or invalid
(2)Brom and preloader have the same comport number!
Please modify them in INI file or scan again."
Sometimes it just do nothing after i press the "Start All" button. Maybe is important (maybe not), but @ "Certification File" gives me nothing, even after I loaded the DA file and scatter file. Even more, a bit down, where should appear the ports, there is N/A + N/A (at all the positions). Tried to connect the phone with different USB ports on my PC, but got the same result.
Please help me! I gave 170 USD for this phone, and worked only a few days
I'm waiting for your response, you are my last hope!
Thank you!

Hi Attila
Thanks you for using XDA Assist
Despite the fact that your device, being a brand new, has no dedicated forum for it (yet), our notorious Recognized Developer @Alberto96 maintain the below thread as a central hub about it:

[Completed] Kingroot - what a disaster - Blu Studio XL

I made the serious mistake of installing Kingroot which failed installing the first time, then it said try again, then it worked but totally took over every aspect of my phone with no apparent way to delete any of the new "features". It didn't seem to be as much about installing root as it was interested in installing some apps they force you to install which totally takes over your phone. (Side note - it is a shame that this is sold as a rooting software, it should be in reality named a virus or malware and avoided. Too bad for BLU users there doesn't seem to be any other way to attempt a root)
Then installing supersu-me created more havoc, then trying to re-install Kingroot completely locked my phone and put it in a boot loop.
Now upon first attempt, I can't seem to make SP Flash Tool or MTK Droid talk to the phone (first time trying now). I installed all the drivers that came with the forced install .exe (which installs the drivers even when no "unknown device" ever appears in device manager) but I have not yet found any "unknown device" in the Device Manager before or after installing these drivers.
When there is no data cable connected, the recovery menu must be used as the only method to power down the phone because it loops on and on with an attempted power up until the battery runs down. However after using the green on black background recovery menu (hold in VolUp and Power), and making the selection to power down, the phone finally powers down. Unfortunately, as soon as the data cable is inserted into the phone, it begins the boot loop again which makes the laptop ding-dong indicating USB driver loading/unloading over and over.
There are options on the green/black recovery menu to load from SD card and to enable ADB but I can't figure out what driver to use and which option on the green/black recovery to attempt. Of course the factory restore option did nothing and the options for ADB, Fastboot and load from SD card seem promising but all I can find for an image is a RAR file which appears as the format of someone's SP Flash Tool dump, and includes the scatter file MT6582_Android_scatter.txt plus other *.img and *.bin files.
With no way to get into my phone, I don't know how to attempt to load this image which I believe is the extraction from the SP Flash tool. I have installed CDC/ACM driver install package, Google Inc USB, Media Tek usbser from 2011 & 2007, usbvcom and Usbvcom_brom.
Any ideas? Thanks!

i9305: CM11 update to Lineage14 causes "Error 7"; PC does not detected phone via USB

i9305: CM11 update to Lineage14 causes "Error 7"; PC does not detected phone via USB
Dear all,
I try to upgrade/ switch my brother's i9305's operating system from CM 11 (11-20160815-NIGHTLY-i9305, Android 4.4.4) to Lineage 14 (14.1-20170322-nightly-i9305-signed.zip.).
- Problem #1: None of my computers' operating systems (Manjaro Linux XFCE, Xubuntu 16.10, Windows 10) are able to detect my cell phone. While connected via USB the battery charges, but the phone does not appear in Nautilus/ Windows Explorer/ ODIN. The suggested solutions (MTP mode, PTP mode, Android Debuggin in Developper Mode) don't work.
- Problem #2: I moved the Lineage zip file to MicroSD card, using a MicroSD/SD adapter. The installation ended up with the known "error 7". Several users suggest to edit the updater script (lineage-14.1-20170322-nightly-i9305-signed\META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script), e.g. here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522762. But "error 7" occured again. I read that this happens due to the old installed version of TWRP. However, when I try to use a new version of TWRP, I end up with problem #1.
Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you in advance.
