[Completed] Kingroot - what a disaster - Blu Studio XL - XDA Assist

I made the serious mistake of installing Kingroot which failed installing the first time, then it said try again, then it worked but totally took over every aspect of my phone with no apparent way to delete any of the new "features". It didn't seem to be as much about installing root as it was interested in installing some apps they force you to install which totally takes over your phone. (Side note - it is a shame that this is sold as a rooting software, it should be in reality named a virus or malware and avoided. Too bad for BLU users there doesn't seem to be any other way to attempt a root)
Then installing supersu-me created more havoc, then trying to re-install Kingroot completely locked my phone and put it in a boot loop.
Now upon first attempt, I can't seem to make SP Flash Tool or MTK Droid talk to the phone (first time trying now). I installed all the drivers that came with the forced install .exe (which installs the drivers even when no "unknown device" ever appears in device manager) but I have not yet found any "unknown device" in the Device Manager before or after installing these drivers.
When there is no data cable connected, the recovery menu must be used as the only method to power down the phone because it loops on and on with an attempted power up until the battery runs down. However after using the green on black background recovery menu (hold in VolUp and Power), and making the selection to power down, the phone finally powers down. Unfortunately, as soon as the data cable is inserted into the phone, it begins the boot loop again which makes the laptop ding-dong indicating USB driver loading/unloading over and over.
There are options on the green/black recovery menu to load from SD card and to enable ADB but I can't figure out what driver to use and which option on the green/black recovery to attempt. Of course the factory restore option did nothing and the options for ADB, Fastboot and load from SD card seem promising but all I can find for an image is a RAR file which appears as the format of someone's SP Flash Tool dump, and includes the scatter file MT6582_Android_scatter.txt plus other *.img and *.bin files.
With no way to get into my phone, I don't know how to attempt to load this image which I believe is the extraction from the SP Flash tool. I have installed CDC/ACM driver install package, Google Inc USB, Media Tek usbser from 2011 & 2007, usbvcom and Usbvcom_brom.
Any ideas? Thanks!

[Q] Stuck in Android system recovery <3e> & need help (Newb)

I tried to install clockworkmod recovery on my Sprint Samsung Epic 4g, and tried to root it, in preparation for flashing a custom rom. I failed. Please help me.
Instead of describing exactly how I got the phone into its present condition -- I don't think I could do so accurately -- I will, for starters, describe the present condition of the phone.
When I power on, the phone boots into Android system recovery <3e>. Must remove battery to turn it off.
After removing battery, I can boot into Android system recovery <3e>. In this recovery environment, I did a wipe data/factory reset and wiped the cache partition. If I select the reboot option, the phone restarts but hangs on the initial Samsung screen.
After removing the battery, I can also boot into download mode.
After removing the battery, if I plug in the micro usb from the wall charger, or if I connect the micro usb from my pc, the phone boots into Android system recovery <3e>.
Is this a hopeless situation? Or, can I install clockworkmod recovery, root the phone, and flash a custom rom?
You have failed to explain what exactly you have done to root your phone, especially since there are different methods of doing so, and without your explanation, no one can you help you.

Please try to be patient with me. I will recount what I did to the best of my ability to remember.
I began with the Samsung_Epic_4G:_Full_Update_Guide on the cyanogenmod site.
I'll quote the guide and, along the way, I'll indicate what I did:
"Download DRockstar's ClockworkMod Recovery, and the Heimdall Suite:
DRockstar's ClockworkMod Recovery: download
md5: 9ae119a8202d594226e88796dfb8d0c2
Windows:
Heimdall Suite 1.3.2: Download
Windows ONLY:
Power off the Samsung Epic 4G and connect the microUSB to the computer but not the Samsung Epic 4G.
Boot the Samsung Epic 4G into download mode by holding down the 1 key on the physical keyboard and Power.
Connect the microUSB cable to the Samsung Epic 4G.
Run the included zadig.exe in the drivers folder of the Heimdall Suite.
From the menu, choose Options » List All Devices.
From the drop down, select Samsung USB Composite Device or Gadget Serial.
Click Install Driver.
NOTE: A prompt may appear warning that the installer is unable to verify the publisher of the driver. Ignore it and select "Install this driver anyway."
Heimdall can now be used safely on the Windows computer.
Untar DRockstar's ClockworkMod Recovery into the Heimdall directory.
On the computer, open terminal and run the following command from the Heimdall directory:
heimdall flash --recovery recovery.bin
A blue transfer bar will appear on the phone showing the recovery being transferred. The device will reboot automatically.
The Samsung Epic 4G now has ClockworkMod Recovery installed. Continue to the next section."
I completed all of the above steps successfully. Next, it says,
"Flashing CyanogenMod
NOTE: In order to flash CyanogenMod via ROM Manager, root access is required. Attaining root access is outside the scope of this wiki page.
If the Epic 4G has been rooted, unlocked, etc. through steps other than the method described above or running a custom ROM other than CyanogenMod and you are having issues flashing or booting CyanogenMod, it is recommended the Epic 4G be returned to stock & start over with the full instructions provided above."
At this point, I decided to root the phone so I could use rom manager to flash CyanogenMod. I used the root samsung epic 4g at the androidauthority site to try to root the phone. I was able to complete all of the steps, that is:
Download the rooting package (SamsungEPIC4GRooting-Kit.zip, 6.48 MB) from here to your PC.
Extract the downloaded ZIP file using any extraction software such as WinZIP or 7-Zip. You will get 3 files; place the extracted files inside a single folder.
On your PC, launch the Odin application by double-clicking the odin3 v1.85.exe file. This should launch the Odin3 application on your PC.
Switch off your Galaxy Epic 4G.
Boot into Download Mode. You can do this by pressing the number 1 key on your phone while turning the phone on.
With Odin3 running, connect your phone to your computer via USB cable.
Odin3 will automatically detect your phone. If successful, the word “Added!” will appear in Odin3’s message box.
If you don’t receive any message, you need to install or reinstall the appropriate device drivers on your computer. Also make sure that USB debugging is enabled on your phone.
Select the PDA tab in Odin3’s user interface. A dialog box will appear, asking you to browse for a file. Browse for the extracted .tar file; in this case, select acs-eb30-clockwork-epic-touch-4g-sep-20-4-00-pm.tar.
Make sure that you do not change any other settings in Odin3, as it may cause irreversible damage to your phone.
Select the Start button in Odin3 to start rooting your Samsung Epic 4G. It may take about 2 to 5 minutes for the whole rooting process to finish. If rooting is successful, you will get a “PASS” message in Odin3’s message box.
Disconnect your phone.
Congratulations! You have successfully rooted your Samsung Epic 4G SPH-D700. Enjoy the many benefits of having a rooted device such as installing custom ROMS, mods, hacks, and themes.
Next, returning to the cyanogenmod wiki (Samsung_Epic_4G:_Full_Update_Guide). I did these steps:
Downloaded the latest version of CyanogenMod.
Downloaded the Google Apps for the device.
Placed the CyanogenMod update.zip file on the root of the internal memory.
Placed the Google Apps .zip on the root of the internal memory also.
The next step was to Boot into the ClockworkMod Recovery.
When I tried to do so, I think I got into the <3e> screen that I described in my first post.
I Selected the option to Wipe data/factory reset.
Then selected the option to Wipe cache partition.
Next, Selected Install zip from sdcard.
When I tried to do that, however, I got an error saying the file signature was not verified.
That's how I got stuck in the <3e> recovery mode.
What you have done is used an article that is say, out of whack. If you looked in the comments, you would see that others have failed with that method or their phone broke, which leads to this video: http://youtu.be/QTQ6Rn0FBSk
You could have used that video, but here is where you screwed up even more..
You downloaded the CM and Google apps zip to your internal memory when you were supposed to placed them into the root of your SD card. And to add on to your mistake, you already wiped your system, cache, etc. without backing up your current ROM..
You already wiped your system and such, and I honestly wouldn't know where to go from there.
However, I can lead you to this video: http://youtu.be/QTQ6Rn0FBSk to unroot (possibly unbrick your phone).
And I can give you this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28080049 because someone has had the same problem as you do now.
With that, Best of luck to you and your phone!
Happy New Year!
Please note: I placed the zip file on the external sd card. I just checked the external sd card with the card reader on my pc, and that's where the zip file is. I mistakenly remembered putting it in internal memory.
Does that make a difference in the advice you gave me?
GOOD NEWS! Using the link you sent to me for the you tube video, I returned my phone to FC09.
Glad I could help [just a little]. :good:
Extremely late, I know.

Help ! Black screen after toshiba logo :crying:

I wanted to update a Folio 100 that had a stock rom installed, a very old Android version (I think 2.1 or something).
I could not get the usb drivers installed properly in order to do the ADB commands in terminal like most tutorials say. Instead, I managed to install Clockwork loader by SD card.
Then with Clockwork I loaded different .zip files, e.g. cm-10-20121117-UNOFFICIAL-betelgeuse.zip, CM 10 (4.1.2) A5 [AhWz][RIP].zip.
I am not sure what to swipe before or after applying the zips from card. But after I loaded these zips I get a black screen at bootup, right after toshiba logo, I left it like that for over 5 minutes, it doesn't start.
Now if I return to boot recovery menu and I try to do a factory reset I get some errors about mounting, "cannot mount /cache/recovery/log (see attached image).
How can I boot again or return to stock ?
I cannot seem to get the USB drivers to load in windows btw (it never finds a proper device to be installed, just storage device), so if it just works to put a rom on card it would be nice.
Hello,
with CWM 3.0.0.5 you cannot install Cm 10. You have to use the appropriate CWM
try with this installation guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31004271&postcount=9
Bye
Instaled Folio 100 usb drivers and booted in download mode
I managed to fix it and install a newer version, it is a huge performance and look improvement from the stock rom of Folio 100.
Just in case others have same problems... my probme(s) were that:
- I could not install the USB drivers for the folio 100.
"debug mode" was enabled but whenever I connected the device it just appeared as a flash storage and in device manager it said that it is already up to date. I used a tool called "usbdeview" to uninstall the device (seen as storage device); then on re-connecting usb cable, windows was looking for Nvidia Tegra drivers, so now I was able to provide proper drivers and it added an "android" device in windows device manager.
- then I realized I was doing some mistakes, I didn't knew that booting in download mode is different than booting in recovery mode, so it has two ways to start it, pressing power+vol_up quick (what I was doing), and more importantly clicking power once then vol_up 3 times, this enabled me to boot in download mode and now the commands in windows command prompt worked (fastboot erase recovery, etc).
From here everything worked as expected (with update steps from these threads), loaded some images, erased partitions, etc.
So it was USB drivers and booting in download mode that confused me.

[How to/MTK65xx] ROOT, Backup & Flash (MTKDroidTools, Spflashtool, CWM) [MTK Only]

[How to/MTK65xx] ROOT, Backup & Flash (MTKDroidTools, Spflashtool, CWM) [MTK Only]
Hi
This is a guide to ROOT, backup and flash your MTK65xx or Other device (Supported devices: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/framaroot/framaroot-supported-devices-t2722980 all credits to alephzain) written by s7yler.
More guides & reviews on my Youtubechannel http://www.Youtube.com/s7yler and http://s7yler.blogspot.com
(Tools used are Framaroot, MTKDroidtools/CWM and SpflashTool)
I will try to write this guide in step by step, so everyone can understand it. This is for PC and will work with Windows 7.
-> All is done by your own risk! this is just a guide to help people with the tools and process. <-
How to ROOT the phone first
1. Get the latest Framaroot apk here http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/framaroot/root-framaroot-one-click-apk-to-root-t2130276
2. Download it and install it on the phone, open the Framaroot app on the phone.
3. Let it be on Install SuperSU, and try the last method, if that dont work, then try one of the 2 others.
4. Then it should say success root, and now reboot the phone.
5. After reboot the phone should be ROOTED, download root checker from the Play store and verify that your rooted.
How to make a simple backup (not completly 1:1) of your stock ROM / MTK phone
1. You have you brand new MTK phone.
2. What I do first is to install all possible drivers. So you go to your PC and install these apps/drivers:
Snappea - http://www.snappea.com/windows
Pdanet drivers - http://pdanet.co/a/ (When it ask what device you have in the install process, just say "Other")
Mediatek Preloader USB VCOM Drivers - (Install file) http://www.mediafire.com/download/cypm22rgs2k83ji/MT6577+USB+VCOM+drivers.rar and here the raw drivers http://www.magicdriver.com/driver4214-ver_1.1123.0.html
For the Preloader VCOM drivers for Windows 8 please read here, and follow this:
http://thebroodle.com/android/install-mediatek-mt65xx-usb-vcom-drivers-windows-8-8-1/
3. On your MTK phone you must in "Developer Options" enable "USB debugging mode".
4. Now download MTK Droid Tools here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49597819&postcount=922
5. Start MTK Droid Tools, and connect your phone with the USB cable to the PC. (if Windows install some drivers, then let it install them automatically).
6. Now on the first page of MTK Droid Tools, it should display all infos about the phone when you connect it.
7. If the sqare is Green, then you have root shell and ready, if its not green, press the ROOT button to the right in MTK Droid tools.
8. Click the "IMEI/NVRAM" button and then Backup to backup your IMEI/NVRAM, the backup files will be inside of the MTK Droid Tools folder.
Also you can manually write down your IMEI number just in case it should be lost.
9. Now go to the tap "root, backup, recovery" (in MTK Droid Tools).
10. Click the Backup button, and it will create a complete backup of your ROM. (in the end it will ask, if you want to pack it, just answer no)
11. When it is finished then also click "To prepare blocks for FlashTool", that will convert the backup to be compatible with Spflashtool. (choose the files.md5 inside the backup folder)
12. After the backup is done it will be inside "backup" in the MTK Droid Tools folder. And inside it there will also be a new folder called "!Files_to_FlashTool" Inside there the files for Spflashtool is. So when loading your backup with Spflashtool you must load the scatter file from inside there.
13. Now to install CWM (clockworkmod recovery) In MTK Droidtools, choose "To use boot from phone" and click the "Recovery and Boot" button. It will ask you a lot, just say yes every time, and it will end of sending CWM recovery to the phone and reboot into it on the phone. After you see CWM on the phone you know it is done. You can switch the menu with the volume keys, and the power is the select button.
14. Inside CWM you can also do a complete backup of your phone (remember to have enough space, you can do the backup to the internal storage OR to the SDcard - try "backup" if that fails then choose instead "backup to external sd" or vice versa). I recommed doing that because CWM makes another backup than the one made with MTK Droid Tools. So if you should get problems or loose something, you can always run your CWM backup into your phone and it will be as before.
15. After your done the backup, copy the backup also to a safe place on your PC. Just in case!
16. So now your Rooted, have installed CWM recovery, have a IMEI/NVRAM backup and a backup for Spflash Tools plus CWM backup.
To make a 100% FULL 1:1 (more advanced) ReadBack ROM backup using SP FlashTool please check these guides here, and learn how to:
http://mmx-unite2.blogspot.de/2014/08/how-to-create-readback-backup.html

or here:
http://pinoyscreencast.net/how-to/g...-smartphones-using-spft-mtk-droid-root-tools/
To flash a backup or ROM with Spflashtool:
Disclaimer: Don't flash another preloader and DSP_BL blocks! It is always dangerous! On some models of phones you will have a brick even if you download these blocks read from phone which you own! Always remove from them marks in SPFT! ALWAYS have a working backup of your original ROM before you flash a new unknown ROM. I take no responsibility for any harm done while attempting this!
1. Go download Spflash tool here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1982576
Both version 3 or 5 should be good to use. If your having problems with one of them or they crash, try this newer version here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2650125
2. Disconnect your phone if connected with USB to the PC, and turn OFF the phone completely, also take out the battery if possible (but can also work with the battery inside the phone, for phones with builtin battery).
2. When you now again connect the USB cable to the phone with the PC while the phone is still off, Windows should popup and beginn to install the MTK65XX Preloader Drivers, this only happens if you installed the Mediatek Preloader USB VCOM Drivers correct in Windows. After they successfully installed, disconnect the USB cable again.
2. Start Flash_tool.exe to start the program
3. Now hit the "Scatter-loading" button, and go to the backup or ROM, inside the folder "!Flash files Spflashtool" load the scatter.txt file. (ALWAYS only load a ROM that is 100% made for your phone, flashing a wrong ROM may make your phone non-bootable)
4. When the scatter file is loaded, it will show all the content in the Spflashtool window.
5. If you only need for example to flash the EBR files, you can deselect all the others. But remember that it must be same ROM or backup.
6. Hit the "Download" button in Spflashtool. Then there should be some pink lines with colors showing that it loads the files.
7. When it stopps to flash/load, connect your phone with the USB cable, remember the phone must be OFF (and without the battery inside if possible to remove). If nothing happens then maybe it is necessary to press at the same time with connect of a cable the camera or volume buttons. For example, hold the volume up button down, insert the USB cable, and then insert the battery (still holding the volume up button down) when you hear it connect in Windows and the colored lines begins to move, let go off the volume up button.
8. Now it should connect (maybe Windows install some drivers by now - the MTK65xx Preloader drivers) and it will in the end continue to flash in Spflashtool when the phone is found and connected. (If you get PMT has changed error, you need to change in SP Flash Tool from "Download Only" to "Firmware Upgrade" but you will need a backup that contains ALL files then including the cache and usrdata files, or it will not allow to flash. Also the phone will be formatted first with Firmware Upgrade, and then flashed.)
9. Now wait while it flashes all files, when it is done, a window will popup white a Green circle. Now you can disconnect the cable, close Splflashtool and reboot the phone. The phone should now boot up with the new ROM.
10. A good thing can be to do a full factory reset after your booted or do it in CWM, to clear all caches. But not necessary.
To enter Recovery or Download mode - turn phone completly off then
Download mode = vol up + pwr (hold both down for several seconds)
Recovery = vol down + pwr (hold both down for several seconds)

Hey sorry, I changed my text now. The ROOT part is not only for MTK phones, also other devices. Here is alephzains list of supported devices: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/framaroot/framaroot-supported-devices-t2722980
You also may try it on others, the worst there can happen is that it just says root failed, and not rooting the device. But then you at least have tried.

In Spflash tool load the scatter file from the backup or ROM directory where you also have all files including the modded EBR files, when loaded it will show all the content to flash, every line has a checkmark in front, uncheck everything but the EBR1 and EBR2. And then flash as I write in the guide. That way it will only flash the EBR1 and 2 to the phone.
Hope i can get this right

So you did install all the drivers I write about in my guide, and rebooted? Normally Spflash tool should recognize the phone after that. (and set the USB debugging mode to on?)
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Hi!
For the last few days I was trying to find the right ROM for me. So I had to learn about MTK Tools and SP Flash tool and I even succeeded with loading different ROMs. What I did not succeed is to restore the original backup made with MTK tools. I followed the tutorial from the first post, the flashing operation ended OK but my smartphone (THL w200s) just wouldn't start. As a matter of fact it starts the beginning but after it passes the animated log it stops. I did not flash the CWM recovery on my device before creating the backup as I wanted to save a snapshot of the original ROM as it was from the factory. More than this, I installed a fresh ROM (I guess it was exactly the same with the default one), everything was OK, I rooted and made my settings (configure emails, etc.) and I made a backup with MTK tools. I had the same issue: I restored the backup with SP Flash Tools, flashing was OK but after that the phone would not start.
What am I doing wrong?

This is a guide to ROOT, backup and flash your MTK65xx or Other device (Supported devices: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/framaroot/framaroot-supported-devices-t2722980 all credits to alephzain) written by s7yler.
More guides & reviews on my Youtubechannel http://www.Youtube.com/s7yler
How to make a simple backup of your stock ROM / MTK phone
To make a more advanced & complete 1:1 ReadBack ROM backup using SP FlashTool please check this guide here:

or here:
http://pinoyscreencast.net/how-to/g...-smartphones-using-spft-mtk-droid-root-tools/
To flash a backup or ROM with Spflashtool:
Never needlessly Download preloader and DSP_BL blocks! It is always dangerous! On some models of phones you will have a brick even if you download these blocks read from phone which you own! Always remove from them marks in SPFT! ALWAYS have a working backup of your original ROM before you flash a new unknown ROM.
1. Go download Spflash tool here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1982576
Both version 3 or 5 should be good to use. If your having problems with one of them, try another version.

Very Useful Tips

Fun accident
Well here's my story.
I was trying to debrand some Huawei Y330-U05 in order to resell them. My first clue was to root the devices and remove all the Entel PCS crap, but I was unable to remove the Boot Splashscreen. So I looked over the net and I could not find a compatible ROM for my model. I downloaded a Y330-U01 ROM from Europe and I tried to flash it figuring that later I'd have to fix the 3G bands. FlashTools did not let me do that and I had the stupid idea to boot the biit.img and recovery.img from the U01 into the U05 with MTKdroidTools. Bricked the phone, and the only way to bring it back was to use the U01 ROM and flash it back. I changed my device from U05 to U01, like I wanted at first but I cant change the 3G bands and I don't have 3G connnection now.
I can't flash back the U05 backup ROMs I did from the phone before I started messing with them because the of the model mismatch (Phone now thinks it is a U01 version). And since there is no stock ROM for the U05 model to download, except for an UPDATE.APP from Movistar Mexico that phone refuses to accept, I'm afraid that if I reverse the whloe process I will end up with a bricked phone and no Stock ROM to bring it back.
Here comes the question. How do I force install a WRONG ROM into my phone? Remember: my Y330-U05 now thinks it is a Y330-U01.
Thanks a lot!

i saw your screenshot and yellow box at the bottom clearly indicates that your device has not been rooted properly. adb still exists as secure region. it is said that your device should said to be rooted properly only when your device got adb insecure. However, if your device has locked bootloader, doing so, i.e. entering or making adb insecure may lead your device to dead boot, a stage from which there are only two ways to survive from:- JTAG/RIFF box OR by replacing motherboard!!!!
However, if your bootloader is unlocked and only if your device is dev friendly, following link may help you to get green box at the bottom of MTK Droid Root Tools indicating your device has proper root access.
However, i have successfully solved this error in my panasonic p81 by making adb insecure.
Though, Do this on your own risk....Remember again, making adb insecure may make your device FAIL!!!!
Head over to following link:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1687590
Thanks to dev Chainfire again for this wonderful application....

[GUIDE] Proscan PLT9650G (RockChip RK3126) Tablet, Root, TWRP, etc

*** Use at your own risk these instructions worked for me on MY tablets that is no guarantee they will work for you ***
This is for the ProScan PLT9650G(K-1G-8G) tablet. It has the RockChip RK3126 chipset. The one I am working with was purchased in Canada at the Atlantic Superstore. I will just briefly outline what I needed and had to do to root and install a TWRP recovery on the tablet. See the attachment for the recovery image. I will explain how to get the programs and general steps to make a full backup of the tablet before ever rooting the device. It is a little difficult, and not necessary, but like any backup can be helpful to have around.
Specifications:
The ProScan tablet has:
- Android Lollipop 5.1.1;
- Quad-core Processor, 1.2Mhz;
- 1 GB of DDR3 Memory;
- 8GB Flash Storage;
- 800x480 Screen Resolution.
Backup Overview:
1) Install USB drivers;
2) Put tablet in bootloader mode;
3) Read the different partitions.
Tools Needed:
1) Rockchip Driver Assistant v4.3;
2) Android Tool v2.3.
Detailed Instructions:
This tablet is a newer version and requires at least version 4.3 of the Rockchip Driver Assistant. The older versions (4.1) won't recognize the USB product id (310D) in bootloader mode.
Download the drivers unrar and run DriverInstall.exe. Select uninstall to clean any old drivers and then select install to install the newer ones. I've done this under Windows 7/8.1/10. Since I've done it so often and so many times with different driver version, I can't remember if the bootloader drivers require you install them with the driver signing turned off or not. The problem becomes that the bootloader drivers (under Windows 8+) will fail the driver signing authentication and won't install. The ADB and MTP drivers are signed and will install correctly, but when you boot the tablet in bootloader mode the device will be unrecognized by Windows. If you end up with this problem follow these instructions and then install the drivers.
After testing on a new machine under Windows 10 the drivers install fine. There is no need to boot with driver signing verification turned off.
To put the tablet in bootloader mode follow thes instructions:
1) Unplug tablet (both power and usb);
2) Turnoff tablet;
3) Press and hold the esc and power buttons at the same time;
4) Hold until the stock recovery menu comes up;
5) Press the esc button to go down to the menu item saying bootloader;
6) Press the power button to execute that menu item.
The screen will go blank. Plug the tablet into the computer and it will be recognized as a device type "Class for rockusb devices" in the Windows Device Manager.
Download the Android Tool from the link provided. The link gives a detailed description of how to backup all the partitions. I have included my parameters.txt file that I created. From the standpoint of undoing the root operation described below I believe only the recovery and system partition needs to be saved. But saving all the partitions never hurts. After you have followed the information in the link and saved the partitions you can move on to rooting the device.
One serious warning I have NOT been able to write anything to the device using the Android Tool. It always give me an error and won't even try. The backups we create can be used from within the tablet to restore it later if needed.
Custom Recovery Overview:
1) Root device;
2) Download the image file on the tablet;
3) Flash the recovery partition with the image file.
Tools Needed:
1) KingRoot;
2) Terminal Application;
Root Device:
The device rooted using KingRoot. Startup the tablet and go through the setup process. Download the apk from the link provided. The version used in testing was 4.6.2. You will need to allow "Unknown sources". The app will eventually give a button just try to root. This will eventually work and the tablet will be rooted.
Extract the img file from within the zip file below onto the internal drive. Make sure you put it in the Download directory. If you are doing this from the tablet it should go there if you move it over using the computer make sure you put it in that directory or change the command below to the proper directory.
Install a terminal emulator. Anyone will do, the one I chose is linked above. Open the emulator and type:
Code:
su
at the prompt. KingRoot should prompt you asking if you want to grant root privilege to the command prompt. Then type the command:
Code:
dd if=/sdcard/Download/TWRP_800x480_Unified.img of=/dev/block/rknand_recovery bs=4096
. That's it if you type:
Code:
reboot recovery
the tablet will reboot and TWRP should start up.
Notes:
If you saved the original system partition you can install it using TWRP and effectively unroot the device but keep the TWRP recovery. With the recovery image you can install it over the TWRP and return the tablet to its stock state. I'm giving these tablets to my kids and I wanted a way to return them to the state I bought them plus after I've personalized them for each of my kids I can make a backup in case they do something that messes them up.
This will also work for the PLT1065G but you need to use different recovery/parameters. The kernel is different (looks like a different touchscreen).
Thanks for this. Got one for $50 at Loblaws today. Will attempt rooting.
Got it for my 6 yr old
Edit: Fixed boot issue

This is for the ProScan PLT9650G(K-1G-8G) tablet. It has the RockChip RK3126 chipset. The one I am working with was purchased in Canada at the Atlantic Superstore. I will just briefly outline what I needed and had to do to root and install a TWRP recovery on the tablet. See the attachment for the recovery image. I will explain how to get the programs and general steps to make a full backup of the tablet before ever rooting the device. It is a little difficult, and not necessary, but like any backup can be helpful to have around.
Specifications:
The ProScan tablet has:
- Android Lollipop 5.1.1;
- Quad-core Processor, 1.2Mhz;
- 1 GB of DDR3 Memory;
- 8GB Flash Storage;
- 800x480 Screen Resolution.
Backup Overview:
1) Install USB drivers;
2) Put tablet in bootloader mode;
3) Read the different partitions.
Tools Needed:
1) Rockchip Driver Assistant v4.3;
1) Unplug tablet (both power and usb);
2) Turnoff tablet;
3) Press and hold the esc and power buttons at the same time;
4) Hold until the stock recovery menu comes up;
5) Press the esc button to go down to the menu item saying bootloader;
1) Root device;
2) Download the image file on the tablet;
3) Flash the recovery partition with the image file.

It seems the boot issue is still there. Do you ever get this? It will get stuck at the PROSCAN logo display.

I have had it stuck. It was when I was testing things. I can't remember what I did. I do know one time I left it for a day and I noticed the ProScan logo had a flashing cursor in it.

I've been fiddling with it and it seems to be completely random. So I guess it's something we'll have to live with.
I bought it for my 6 year old who's dying to play Pokemon Go. The app runs okay on it. It's just the 'GPS' (or lack of a proper GPS chip) that's a bit slow/inaccurate
Hello I to bought this tablet in Canada I successfully rooted it but is there a reason why no other cameras can be downloaded or Music players or Instagram.
Is thee any chance to unbrick this tablet?
I have one stuck in the boot logo, hard reset wont solve, is there any flash file?

There is a way to create an SDCARD and it will run from the SDCARD. I've forgotten how . I'm looking at one of my kids cracked ones right now. The touchscreen is cracked so I'm looking at build Ubuntu for it. I'll post when I figure out the SDCARD again.
Reset tablet to factory
I was able to use the factory irmware to reset the tablet from a computer. It will over write any custom recovery, etc. I have been unable to recreate a custom image any changes make the image fail. I found the software I used to create a bootable SDCARD but I can't get it to work keeps failing on creating the MBR. The software was the Rockchip SD Firmware Tool and there is an option to create SD Boot. So far I can only find v1.43 anyone have v1.45?
Let me know here as soon as you just remember anything related to this.
I got another tab like this, screen cracked and I could read off its firmware, so I now have a working firmware waiting to be written...

How did you flash the image? what software did you use,
Thanks.
it's not possible to change the rom or custom image of the tablet to another operating system like ubuntu or linux. It has allow OEM bootloader unlocked in the settings in developer section greyed out and it doesn't allow oem bootloader unlocking 'enabled'. You cannot enable it.
What you are doing is just resetting the factory image. or rom. you can just push the reset button with pin after charging the tablet for 3 hours.
These tablets are not 'cheap' to make and google, cell phone companies subsidize these 'cheap' tablets. so you have to use and pay them when you subscribe to their cell phone 'service' or google advertisements when you use their 'service'.
Lots of vaporware being pushed saying they can unlock something for $40 or downloading tools etc. wasted of time as it's impossible to unlock oem BOOTLOADER if the manufacture has locked it, you cannot install another operating system in the tablet, or smart phone. so don't waste your time.
Only some phones allow oem unlocking bootloader and those are the higher end phones costing $400-$600 for a tablet that are not 'subsidized' by google or you cell phone company as with 'cheap' phone or tablet.
the firmware is not available for download at the manufacture website that should raise alarms about the firmware. I've factory reset the device and now it's having reboot issues, either the firmware is defective or corrupt bootloader etc. The manufacture proscan seems to be selling the devices yet no technical support or even a direct download from the manufacture, downloading firmware from thirdparty servers is security risk. it seems like today lots bogus websites and no technical support from manufacturers in tech devices they sell. and people have to sites like XDA for 'free' technical support. Even Microsoft which makes billions in profits fail to provide proper technical support for some reason. and have to rely on 'free' technical support for bugs and issues with their software and hardware and lots vaporware apps etc.. bogus apps. that don't work.
Rooting gives the user the ability to install and change OEM software. from what i gather so don't waste your time, to root a device, allows the user to delete operating system files. if the manufacture doesn't allow changing the oem software there is nothing you can do. about so don't waste time trying root it or try to install ubuntu or linux on the tablet or smartphone if it's oem LOCKED. bootloader. you cannot unlock it. it's much harder to unlock oem software.
the method to 'restore' factory image or known as 'flashing the rom'
there is no reason to flash the rom etc.
1. just hold the power button and esc button at the same time
2. release the power button wait 2 seconds
and then release the esc button
you should now be in boot up mode.
this unit doesn't allow you to be in bootloader mode. so you CANNOT install another firmware or install linux etc. other than the proscan firmware.
3. press esc to select restore the factory settings
4. press the power button to select
this the easiest way to restore stuck in browser or need to flash the rom
again if the rom is 'corrupt' which is not likely
if that is the case
the option to "apply update from external storage" doesn't seem to work as you cannot mount to flash the rom and reinstall the .img file from the .zip file
"apply update from external storage"
where you saved your .zip doesn't work
the apply updated from ADB works you need a usb computer hooked up to you computer and terminal command to ADB to your table to rinstall the .imge file
update ,this no longer seems to work in installing the .zip file method to install the firmware.
lot of software and hardware that have no technical support or documentation and the stuff just doesn't seem to work and high security risk with no updates from manufacture as it cost them money to resolve issues. selling disposable technology tablets. that is not meant to last. basically toys. for kids.

[Tutorial] Flash Stock System Image on Vowney Lite

I bricked my device last week with a stupid flash, and since then I've been looking for a solution flash the stock ROM back on it, and finally here is what I found! :victory:
It will overwrite your system, not the kernel, but I hope you did not touch that, it worked for me.
Requirements:
-Vowney Lite (bricked for more fun)
-SP flash tool, download here: https://mega.nz/#!uEtxzSqY!pKLnobqUsrELE8VtTQRYIMwSlCAcrcDdix-avGvwqv4
-MT6795 Scatter File, download here: https://mega.nz/#!xE0QSS4D!avdr3ARS5cIiwEU4iK8stLVFHiiUeGFYVwg3ndwWJEE
-My system image dump, download here: https://mega.nz/#!FVVhnJzC!r72wbSVdZrwp1NnPhTC2Qz9fmffJBIQMMNbbisJMndQ
-MTK preloader drivers installed, tutorial here: http://bbs.elephone.hk/thread-71-1-1.html#.VstQKvHhChc
1. Turn off your device (probably done )
2. Launch SP flash tools
3. Load the scatter file you downloaded
4. Uncheck everything, then check system
5. In the location section of the system, find the system.img you downloaded
6. Click on Download
7. Plug your device
8. When the green check appears, quit SPFT
9. Boot in recovery mode, with power + volume up
10. Wipe Cache then Wipe Data
11. Reboot :fingers-crossed:
In the image system I dumped from my phone you will get root permission with SuperSU, Cerberus Anti theft as a System App (call 2356 for settings), and few of my settings, like faster animations in developper options etc
Tell me if you find out anything else.
Hi Luxumbra! Me again
Phone was messing around yesterday and not opening any apps/crashing, so thought i'd just do a stock flash.
I followed all the steps, however I couldn't get the preloader drivers on my computer. Im runnning windows 7 and when I head to device manager, I only have "MTP USB Device" and then subsequently trying to update the drivers shows up with "WIndows has determined the driver software is up to date".
I figured out that the problem was a corrupted microSD card, however I did unroot in the process and would like to flash your provided system image on! Any ideas?
Thanks!
Thanks, I followed the steps and unbricked my Vowney. In addition to checking System in step 4, I also checked Boot. The phone is up and running.
Thanks again!
Happy to help aLmoravado
lidlband I just saw your post ^^ do you still have the problem?
