How to run some applications on my Samsung I780 - General Questions and Answers

Hi, everybody.
I have a question. Well, recently, i have bought a Samsung I780, it's a very nice, fast and complete mobile, but like everybody knows this phone suffer of this resolution (320*320) which make it incompatible with some applications, consequently, my questions is, How to make, to make compatible my phone with some applications which don't be, for the moment.
I try Real vga, in 128 DPI, in 96 DPI, but firstly, this software is a little bit mysterious for me, i don't really knows is function, and secondly, nothing has change after have installed RealVGA.
Thnaks for your help.
Sorry for my poor english, but i'm a french guy !
++Skanner

i think the programs you mention are programs to make qvga programs work on vga
devices
which is the real problems there are a lot more problems with vga devices being
able to run qvga drivers
on the top of my head i cant think of any programs out on vga but not qvga

Anybody have an idea ? please !
thanks.

Linux on Magician

Hi Wizkidz, Magician Junkies, HTC Hacking Staff, and all!
Is there possible to put Linux OS to the Magician? If so, I can do it in the same way like BA? I want to try it, but I'm not sure it is possible, and if it is, will it be stable?
Waiting for replies....
See here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Xanadux
Thanks for the link.
I've already saw it somewhere, but I'm not sure that is possible on Magician. You know that a lot of PDAs supports WM5 but Magician isn't. So I think it is possible on some devices, but not sure on Magician.
Any experiences?
I don't know about those guys, but I've found a "good try":
http://userpage.fu-berlin.de/~zabel/magician/README
If you follow that, it boots graphical GPE and you have access to a number of applications.
The touchscreen works, but the whole thing is quite unstable on my pda - the apps keep crashing on launch - and AFAIK there is absolutely no support for phone capabilities. The sound driver is also gone. Bluetooth seems to work out of the box.
But as I said, it looks like a nice try, with a lot of potencial.

PocketPC software synth and music studio for free!

Hi Guys,
On this site you can now download Syntrax for free: http://www.finished.nl
How do I know this? I created the program myself
Should work on all ancient and modern PocketPC's (except the weird square screen ones)
Enjoy!
Reinier
Excellent.
Does it come with sample sounds, or do you need to provide the sounds for the sequencer?
Hi,
No sampled sounds allmost (It would add to the size too much)... but a lot of preset synthetic sounds.
But sampled sounds are possible, so there's no stopping you from importing them!

Will it work on the samsung sc3 processor.
euh...
if it's compatible with arm then it will undoubtedly work.
I used to have sh3 and mips versions of the software. If needed I can upload them, although I'm unsure if it will be the latest version.
Sh3 was really slow by the way... I can remember not many audio channels were possible on my ancient hp jornada. The oldest Ipaq however already was more than quick enough.

I'm using a touch diamond and finished.nl is telling me this is not compatible, is this true?
nice one, I got this before when I used to have a P910i
you have to register to handango to DL
Syntrax 2 Pro?
Hi there Reinier,
Glad to be able to chat to the syntrax developer.
I would like to know if you have any plans to update this application making it easier to use and perhaps moving away from basic analogue emulation or at least expanding the pallette?
I had it on my previous phone (tytn 2) and couldn't really get much out of it despite following the tutorials. I suppose i'm used to my pc programs and a full screen though i'm sure there's things you can do that work better for the much smaller phone screen.
I am not a developer/programmer myself but would be more than happy to come up with some suggestions and ideas for you to work on.
Of course time is money, so you should really think about making it a purchasable item should you wish to put the necessary effort in.
Look forward to hearing what you think in regards to this.
Simon Jarvis.
It runs portrait though. It would have been nice to be able to run it in landscape.
is it ok with the touch diamond? I got the incompatibility message from Handango too!
This looks AMAZING though & I really want to be able to run it !!!!!!!!!

Square screen (320x320) on WM device, any experience?

I'm currently looking into getting a new handset, i have been carrying around both my XDA Orbit and my HTC S710 (Vox) for a while now, and want to move onto just having one handset. My criteria was simple, keypad or keyboard with dpad and touchscreen, gps and wifi. I found the perfect phone, the HTC Touch Dual. Which I assumed was perfect until I heard it had no wifi! (God damn HTC, silly mistake!, and although it also has no gps, i could easily just use my keyring gps!). So, reluctantly I had to find another handset and thus I did, the Samsung i780, its all perfect, BUT it has a square screen (320x320)! So I was wondering, does anyone here have any experience with square screens? For example what works well program wise and what doesnt? ect ect. Thanks in advance xda-developee's.
(Note to mods: If this is in the wrong section please feel free to move it, thanks)
320x320 is better than 240x240, but it's still an oddball. App compat is a problem. Attached is an app snap in 320x320, to give you an idea.
My main disappointment from the pics I've seen is that WM seems to treat it as a 240x240 square screen for compatability, so you still get 30% less lines on your today screen than you would on QVGA.
So, upgrading the screen from 320x240 to 320x320 actually gives you LESS text and icons on the screen! Only in the world of WM...
i managed to get my hands on a 320x320 device, and it doesn't like most of the apps that I run. so i have now seen a new hp phone im after, the ipaq 614c. hopefully it will be out soon.
I am also anxiously waiting for the HP614c. Any news by when we can expect it to become commercially available
I'm considering buying a i780, but this problem with WM treating it as a 240x240 screen is a bit troubling. Does anyone know if this will be the case in all applications (like IE, Opera, E-book readers etc.)? If it's only the today screen it's not too big of a deal (at least for me), but if other applications are affected it would be pretty bad.
Here's an interesting read on WM Team Blog about 320x320:
http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2007/03/02/320x320-revisited.aspx
Turns out they have a 128 dpi (versus 96 dpi on QVGA and 240x240 Pocket PCs).
I guess the question then becomes weather the DPI will affect other applications, or is it only the today screen that's affected? Is it possible to somehow change the DPI to 96 (which makes a lot more sense to me)?

This sounds great, would love to see some screen shots in the first post to see what it looks like.

Yea, I'd like to see here more info and some screenshots.. I don't believe that this is possible, because of complete different hardware.. Being a little sceptic.
I'm not admired that there's a possibility of using WM pro in the VOX...you have something similar on the Startrek (QTEK 8500): link
I will surely like to test it .
But I need to know if this will really work? If you have the ROM and test on your VOX/710, please post some images and scribe a little description about, so that we can analyze before we proceed to test
Sounds very interesting!
They have got WM6.1 Professional ported to the Wings from the Kizer in the Wings forum, maybe that's the place to ask for advice in porting WM6.1 Professional to the Vox http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=389089

Pro..
Keep cool, i am not finished with this...and there are no helpfull posts within...
But how do you think to use it without touchscreen?
It will be far from user friendly...
Oh my...believe me, it is useable.
First;
A POCKET PC IS NOT ONLY HIS TOUCHSCREEN!!!
AND A SMARTPHONE IS NOT ONLY A POCKETCAMERA....or anything else than a SmartPhone.
The PRO OS works well on SP, the OS is nearly useable like Standart, (no big differences, you can navigate with dpad+softkeys on ppc, too...)
It is like a PPC with the lack of a Touchscreen, you can carry most of the PPC apps you love, but not be able to install on your Standart-SP...
Most SP-Apps wont install, because there are differences in some Cab-Configs, but most of them works well......and the VOX/WINGS got a qwerty/z Keypad...ideal to use as SIP..
Ive a StarTrak and a Tornado, both are running PRO, i like it, sure, its not useable like a PPC with Touchscreen, but nice to have.
AND DONT FORGET;Smartphones are mostly similar with the PPCHardware (exept the Touchscreen, stop buggin me)
I really hope you get it working sounds great.
especially since I miss one major feature in wm6(.1) standard: WIFI proxy.
it's not possible (as far as I know) to use an http proxy on your wifi connection.. which is a pitty.
if you get it working, I'll most likely install it

There is also Fake Curser that will do the job of the stylus/ finger on a touch screen to close apps and to change to different tabs in apps.
This sounds very prommising if it can be pulled off.

You should be able to boot a Professional from the HTC Wizard since they have the very same hardware, but I don't know if the lcd driver would work.
Anyway, you should know, the Omap 850 cpu has native support for touchscreen, if you can find where the pins connect, you could possibly adapt it (assuming you can find a 2.4" 4 wire touch panel).
Another option would be using the mini-usb jack. The cpu has both client and host side usb support. If it's mapped to the connector, and you can make windows put the usb in host mode you can connect a mouse, touchscreen or whatever you want and use it from there (if you get external power to the device you are connecting)
My vox is still under repair (3rd week already) so cannot test anything yet sorry
i would love to try it...
How long will it be until we see the first test version of this ROM?

Manilla

Hello everyone, I've been searching all these roms but it seems that there isn't one single ROM with manilla. Can I install this on Universal? Tks
Short answer? No.
Long answer? Manilla (aka TouchFlow 3D) requires far too much RAM and processing resources to run properly on our Uni's. The biggest problem is (seems to be?) the lack of decent hardware drivers, since HTC wrote custom ones for the TouchPro, etc.
Of course it's a few months since I even attempted using any of the ports, so things may have changed, though I somehow doubt it.

But what about the 2D version?
I had one in my qtek 9090 (which is older than uni) and it ran just fine!
u can use this big-mem ROM by Cotulla: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=468776 and install manila2d .. but if u have 64Mb uni, u will be memory low for something more with manila (i got 15-10Mb free with my 64Mb-Uni) .. its work very nice in portal mode.. and its so big, great for in-car use or similar
after install of manila, they will be small, not on full screen.. you must find VGA theme for manila2d .. search on forum
this is easy for install, ask if is problem find .. i think that on 128Mb uni it is will work very nice
//sorry for bad eng, big hello from Serbia
I would recommend to use ThrottleLauncher (just Google for it).
With the TF3D theme and with the Manila WeatherPanel installed it is great and fast (10-15 MB RAM, yes I know, but with a 128 MB Uni it's awesome ). But if you turn on the flash clock you will see, how many resources it needs, and it works only with 2-3 fps. But at least it is very customizable...
That's it,
DOMy
