Hello all,
I would always like to have a backup of all my HTC contacts in my SIM card too but the moment if I copy even a single contact into the SIM card, it starts showing up under the contacts menu and then I have duplicate contacts which is kinda distracting and annoying.
Is there a tweak or some setting to avoid the SIM contacts from being visible in the HTC contacts menu but at the same time allow me to backup all my phone contacts into the SIM card.
Thanks
Vivek
Check Advance configuration tool (Advanced_Configuration_Tool_v3.3.cab)..
There's a setting in it for this.
I think there's also one in Diamond tool (Diamond Tweak 0.5.3_English.cab)
But not too sure about this one.
Thanks funnysam for your reply.
Could you also post a link for both the softwares you mentioned.
Are they availble on this site ?
Thanks
or you can go to the registry and do hkcu/controlpanel/phone and set ShowSIM to 0

Excellent solution, hieu2ueih.
Thank you so much for your help.

I personal only use phone contacts. Since my phone gets sync with my pc about every other day I always have a up to date bacc up. Not sure why you would want to same tot he sim card. You would proably even be better using PHMbaccup and have everything copied to you mcrosd card on what ever schedule you would like it to be.

In my case I have a dumbphone I can use for a backup, and I use it occasionally. So having the contacts on the SIM for me makes them appear in that phone instead of trying to update my contacts in that phone to keep it current.

I like to have all my contacts saved onto my phone so I can add pictures and other info to the contact infromation that it doesnt allow you to do if it is just on the sim card... I also like to keep all my contacts on my sim card in case the phone crashes and I need to pull the sim and switch phones.. here is my problem. Since I have my contacts on both my phone and my sim, they show duplicates in the contacts list. Is there any way to filter out the sim card contacts so I dont have 2 of everyone(1 on phone, 1 on sim)??
fyi: Im using WM6 vanila
Try this
I think it inserts a registry hack called "ShowSim" to 0.
I don´t remember, where to edit it by your own, so use this cab-file.
Or use Sktools - OK I like the program.
Go to
HKCU/Control Panel/Phone
ShowSim "1" will show the sim contacts "0" will hide sim contacts

When you change the registry and reset the phone it somehow reverts back... Any idea how I can sort this out?

Hi, I'm new and I have the same problem with my HTC Touch Cruise. I have just tried to edit the registry changing the value 1 to 0 in the string HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Control Panel / Phone but nothing.......after the soft reset the contacts are always visible.
Rstein.HideSimInstall.CAB or hide_sim.cab would resolve my problem?

Ok so I used your cab file and everything worked except now I want my SIM contacts to show so I can't figure out how to do it. I uninstalled the .cab file and deleted everything that had anyting to do with it and still can't get my SIM contacts to show back up. Any suggestions? Thanks.
How can we go about making a .cab file that shows the SIM contacts then?
Is this just a simple registry tweak that we can do?

Hi,
the next alpha release of SMSmanager is here. It's not finished so some things don't work. However, I'd like to get it tested and have some feedback before I go much further.
I have attached a zip file. Unpack it. Copy the cab file to your phone and install it on the device. (not the storage card). I had to do a soft reset on mine before it appeared in programs. Do not start the application.
Then install the desktop application and launch it.
If i've done my job right the desktop application will launch the pocket application and they will start to chatter to each other.
All your texts and contacts should appear on the desktop.
If you have any problems email me [email protected].
I've tested it on an Orbit and an Exec.

Yes screen can be replaced, try to find service company for HTC somewhere around your location. There are some pictures of HTC communicator dismantling here. The screen is a separate part. Your phone (HTC Herald) should not be an exception.

I think it should be possible to get data off the device via active sync ansd some backup program. If you use something like my mobiler you can even emulate your device screen on PC to be absolutely sure you will not lose any data even if they repalced the device entirely. Good program to backup messages/contacts is PIM backup - does not need install - just one .exe.
EVEN BETTER...im gonna try running the 'my mobiler' on my pc and see if i can just /view tranfer the data that way..

sorry for double post. My mobiler runs automatically on ppc so there should be no need to use the screen for install. Let me know if it works for you.
how do i use/download the PIM backup if my screen is blank, can i run the exe with the mymobiler on my PC?
pim backup is exe file - you can copy it to your device via active sync/windows explorer (it does not need to be installed in any way, just copied). then you can use my mobiler to work with your device - you need to find the Pim backup exe with devices's explorer and run it. it backs up to the memory card by default. should be straightforward.
You can download pim backup here.
THANKYOU KarhU...you have no idea how much help you have been...i will let you know the results
You can also use full fledged backup programs. They can backup everything - even your programs and so on. PRoblem is that they are paid, and need installation (should not be problem if mobiler works).
If mobiler does not work you can copy the PIM.vol from the root directory of the device to your PC - this is a database containing all of your PIM data. Restore from it is fairly simple too.
Guys
I need help as well. I'm using HTC_Tytn with Rom Version : Schap's 3.60a, ROM Date : 08/09/07, Radio Version : 1.47.00.10 . Protocol Version : 32.80.7020.20H ExtROM : 3.60.20070822. I'm having a problem with the bluetooth issues whereby it always can be turn on ( you need to restart and it will automatically turn on) , phone siddebly hang ( when received call) and another major issues is I can't do Video Call ( I can see the other party but my front camrea is not working). Can anyone help?? Should I upgrade anything or maybe there's another ROM that you guys may suggested?
Someone I know had a TMO MDA given to them with a cracked screen. They went directly to TMO and was quoted $100 for the screen. Just stop by a TMO store and ask - even if they tell you you're boned, you're only out the $400 dollars for the gas you burned to get down the block and the 10 minutes it took.
Or just try calling 611 from a TMO phone and ask them. Never hurts.
how do i retrieve the data 'backed-up' by the PIM exe...everything is running great (mobiler, sync) i ran the PIM exe from mobiler and it took a while but finally said completed...so where or how can i view the data (messages/contacts etc) saved or backed up??? thank you again for all your help, i know these are problem simple questions that everyone knows...

PIM Backup saves the backup file to the root directory of SD Card by default. File name is PIMBackup_date.pib. This is a place to look. You can also backup all of your programs/settings etc. with commercial backup utilities like SPB Backup or Sprite Backup - these can restore your device to the exactly same state like before e.g. when you do the Hard reset. Note that PIM Backup does not save MMS messages.
can't connect
i have the same problem with my wing. i've downloaded my mobiler but when i install it nothing happens. it refuses to connect to my phone. active sync (or windows mobile device center, whatever they call it on vista) is working just fine so i know the link with the phone is good. any suggestions? PLEASE HELP!!! my life is on that phone.
Hey guys, finally got my tytn II in the mail today and gonna start flashing shortly. i've been reading this board for several weeks now and it seems that dutty comes out with a new rom every few weeks. how do you keep your programs/setting etc. intact? do u use backup software and then just reload it on the new rom? or do you have install each program one by one after flashing to a new rom?
just curious. thank you for the help, i appreciate it.
P
Bit of Both
I use PIM backup for Call logs, Speed Dials and Messages and Active Sync the Rest.
Im affraid you just have to re-install all you're apps, but it does not take two minutes, just keep a copy of the CABs on your storage card. The hard part is remebering all the tweaks you like. But you'll find a process.
I supose thats the price of Having a Kick Ass ROM like dutty's.
Well worth if you ask anyone here.
I'm lucky to go through 2 weeks without flashing, of course, with my cooked rom. PIM backup is indeed the best solution from transferring backup data from rom to rom. Having all your favorite cabs on your SD works well for me, too. Changing everything to what you want and tweaking is a pain, but its the things that we deal with here.
First time I flashed, after installing all the programs again I promised myself I wouldn't flash ever again...
Took me two days for a new ROM an since then I've tried almost all of them, and this time I have one for the longest, I think 4 days
Just keep your favorite Cabs on your SD like already mentioned and take some dead time to install them.
Cool thing flash does for you, is that you eventually get to know the phone settings and tweaks inside out.
Happy flashing!

Very True! and u learn it quick!
I keep all of the cabs that I always use on my SD card and I use PIMbackup for my contact, msg and appointment info.
Yep, same strategy here. All my cabs are on SD card and I use OTA sync with my exchange server for my PIM data...only problem is that I have 150+ cab files (at the last count) and it gets a bit much installing each one, by one...
What I need is an auto script that does a batch install!

SKTools will help you with this.
I do the same as mentioned above. I use PIMBackup for contacts, messages, etc. Sync my calendar to Google. Install all apps from CAB's on my SD card via SKTools, and fortunately most of my apps that I tend to tweak the most (PocketBreeze, PocketWeather, etc.) have import and export of settings, so that takes care of that.
I can now flash a new ROM and be up and running with all my software in about 20 minutes, give or take.

No problem.
It's nice cause it will find all CAB's on your device and SD card, and then you just check the ones that you want, and tell it to install. Personally I check all the apps that I want installed to the device and select to install silently and wait a few moments and it's complete. Then I go back and check all my games and then have it install those normally so that I can tell it to install them to the SD card.
I have settled down with Dutty's No.7b for now. Not going to upgrade again anytime soon.
How do you sync against google?

I am using pimbackup to save my txt messages, all other data will be synchronized again with Activesync and my My Documents-Folder is on my StorageCard.
To install all apps and settings, i use Mortscripts for unattended installation. cabs and scripts are on the storagecard. Just start and let it go ^^.
Ok, takes a while to make the scripts once but when you flash that often like me, it's worth.

What is it exactly that you want to restore??? Personally, I wouldn't (and didnt) restore ANYTHING from titanium. It takes like what 5 minutes to go through the settings menu and set stuff back up the way you had it?
Apps have to be coded to allow them to be moved to sdcard. It's up to the developers to add that option in. It's not because you are restoring stuff from titanium, but because you are trying to move something that doesn't have the ability to be moved yet.

You can force your phone to allow apps2sd with pm setInstallLocation=2
In anycase your response was not helpful but dismissive. My reasons to backup and restore are valid enough for me to ask and if you can't answer go find another post to respond to.
In any case I have by trial and error found that a number of settings restore just fine and I have put mot of my applications on the sdcard.

Yes, I know all about this. Anything with a widget or service will not work, but will still goto SD (bad). And other apps may not work properly. YMMV, but personally I set that option on, moved a couple of big apps, tested them, then immediately turned it back off (pm setInstallLocation=0). I'm on my third wipe and things are running better then ever since doing it this way. I had apps that do not include a widget or service, were not protected, that should have run fine from there and did not.

I wasn't being "dismissive" by any means... I was simply curious as to what it was you wanted to restore as it helps to answer "what you can safely restore" if people know what it is that you want. My point about it taking 5 minutes was simply trying to point out you may actually save your self some time and frustration by doing it manually.

Maybe you should read hat I wrote before just saying not to even try backing things up. Wow I wanted to keep my settings, text messages and call history and be able to toss my applications on the SD and get a location fix. Some setting carried over stops those from working and wanting to know what it is or why it is is a whole lot more intelligent than just throwing my hands up and saying "Well, I paid for an application I guess I shouldn't use it!"
This probably doesn't help but I personally don't like everything about titanium. It seems to restore too much. I still use it for apps but It's hard to identify what you are restoring when it comes to "data". mybackuppro does a better job of choosing what to back up and restored. very clear and concise, everything is labeled, (ie: sms, call log, mms, playlists, home screen icons etc etc). I know I know, its not help with titanium but maybe it'll help.

Okay pointless argument. Once again, I wasn't saying "dont even try!" I said "PERSONALLY, I didn't restore anything". That's because after my first install I did restore several things and it caused issues. I was giving you my personal advice on the matter. Sorry it didn't answer the question the way you wanted, but it wasn't by any means trying to put you or what you wanted to do down.
I also paid for titanium backup and use it and love it all the time. I think we are asking a bit much of it to backup stuff from a (assuming here) custom rom, then importing them onto a stock rom and have absolutely no issues.
Maybe I could have worded my initial response better, but it helps people to answer your questions if we know what you wanted to restore specifically rather then trying to answer what can and cannot be restored. Had you said how can I safely restore my texts, and call logs someone may have piped in and said "I restored X in titantium backup and had no issues!"
Again, wasn't flaming, telling you to give up, or anything. Only offering my personal experiences with this.

I agree with polo79. While Titanium is fantastic at restoring apps and their data, It is not very concise on what data is restored. IMO, the most useful feature Titanium offers is it's ability to replace the Market links to the restored apps. While what you want to do probably is possible using Titanium, MyBackup Pro makes it much more clear cut on what you're restoring.
As far as restoring apps go (and I have many of those), after much trial and error, what I did was restore as much as I could using InstallLocation 0 until I ran out of room. Then I set it to 2 and went through and moved what I thought safe to sd. Then went back and installed more using Titanium using 0 again...well, you get the procedure.
And enough bickering. Gimpsta was only trying to help, but maybe a "no reply" here would have been best.
Well I went through and my results are I can restore all applications and the following datasets without issue to location or installing to sd:
[ACCOUNTS] Account and Sync Settings 2.2 - check.
Application widgets - blanks out desktop but can get location lock.
[Bookmarks] Browser 2.2 - check
[Calendar] Calendar Storage 2.2 - check
[USER DICT] com.amdroid.providers.userdictionary 2.2 - check
[CONTACTS/CALLS] Contacts Storge 2.2 - Check
[SMS/MMS/APN] Dialer Storage 2.2 - check
I didn't try the rest because everything was working and I didn't need anything weird in the rest.
Hi, I'm testing froyo roms now, currently very pleased with performance
Tintanium backup is really a great app, I ditch all other backup programs after installing it.
I was able to restore to froyo, APNs, contacts, call history, wifi settings, sms.
cheers,
can somebody shed some light why i can't restore contacts from 2.1,
sms restored perfectly, but contacts say restored successful but i can't see them, only call log
tnx
don't know why, but here's how i got around it
can't tell you why, but i miight be able to show a way around it.
I had the same problem a couple of time. what i did is exporting my contacts to a "vcf"-file on sd card. after flashing the new rom i imported all contacts with now probs.
hope it will work for you to.
the tiny drawback is, you have to nandroid-backup your actual setup. restore the previous, export your contacts. restore the actual and import.
good luck
