Fuze Owners: OK, who's jumping ship? - Touch Pro, Fuze General

It's coming up on 30 days so if you're going to return it the time is now. I like the Fuze a lot, but after the Tilt I realize how important battery life is. I can't take another year of 12 hours of battery life until the next HTC device with a weak battery.
I might have to get the HP 910 Business Messenger. It has comparable features and size but has a 1940 mAh battery. What other sub-$500 alternatives to the Fuze are there? If the early reviews on the HP phone are positive, I'm gone.

Here's an idea... wait a month, get an extended battery... or carry a spare in your pocket. Is there anything else about the phone you don't like?

just the horrid battery and laggy gps and voice command issues and windows live with messenger not working properly even though windows live without messenger works perfectly and the cramped keyboard (that one isn't a big deal).
with these and other issues cited by XDA foks, HTC would have to release an updated ROM to fix all or most of them. and we can't count on them doing that.
so if i wait a month, no refund. an extended battery might do the trick, but they make the phone a brick and the smaller extended doesn't add much juice. and i don't even know if a cooked ROM would help significanty.

Then try it now before your 30 days is up and see if it helps. If not, then return it. If it helps, then you have the best phone possible right now. Dont return it until you explore all of your options.

Believe me, a cooked ROM makes a world a difference. it is like using a whole different phone. The screen is very responsive and everything loads much faster. While I agree the battery life is not great and the annoying design flaw with the molding chipping off, other than that I have no complaints.

i had a dutty rom on my tilt so i know they're great. i just don't know if the available ROMs solve the issues i listed (gps, voice command, windows live with messenger and others). but you're right. it won't hurt to try one.
now a politically incorrect question: which raphael chef is the closest to dutty in terms of ROM brilliance? i define brilliance as not just stripping a rom down (which, of course, is essential), but solving problems inherent to the device while adding a good deal of functionality.

Not trying to toot my own horn, but my ROM addresses the GPS and voice command issues irt the speaker (bluetooth vc is borked for the moment). I'm not sure what the issue is with windows live w/messenger, but the cab works fine when I install it (although it runs dog slow on the today screen)

Have to agree here, if you want a non-manila version, Da_G's is one of the best available for fuze owners. Its very quick and responsive. If you want to keep manila, ROMeOS is a great choice. You should also try different radios to get better battery life as well.

I am definetely not jumping ship. There is not a better phone out there currently and most if not all of my friends with other phones also have battery life issues. it is what it is with these mini computers if you are a real "power user". You either keep it plugged in when you are using your desktop and in your office, or plug it in whenever in the car, or get a spare battery. All of those options are not that bad to be honest, but nothing else compares to the phone in general. I have added just about everything I can to my fuze without changing rom or radio and I think it is an incredible phone that just keeps getting better with each day I find a new tweak or program to play with.
You can read my full review of my fuze on my blog at http://www.politicaldisgust.com/2008/12/05/att-htc-fuze-review/
For work I have had all the different Blackberry phones since the day they were released and with the type of usage I have they ALL ran out of battery during the day and had to be charged as mentioned above. Sure it was a little better then the fuze battery BUT the blackberry is 1/2 the phone/computer.
Check out my review. I am not jumping ship. It will only get better and better with new programs, cooked roms/radios, new cases released, etc.

you are probably right. even the reviews of this HP phone i mentioned are mixed and say it's battery might not be that great.

I would definitely ditch the stock rom, also I heard security unlocking your phone greatly increases battery life, correct me if I'm wrong.

I wont be anytime soon. Like others said cooked rom's help as well as testing other radio's to see which one give the best battery life. I highly suggest getting your fuze security unlocked so you can test other radios. So far I'm loving this phone. At first I wasn't sure b/c the tilt was very good to me, but now I'm positive I won't be taking it back.
It'll only get better from here.

Cooked ROMs always break something though, and regardless you can't fix poor hardware design with a new ROM. To those who say they have the best phone out now, guess they haven't tried the Xperia yet.

You make a very good point..
/me muddles over to play with the xperia drivers

My brother has the hp 910. I liked it at first, I used to have 6515 and loved it. Since that phone I've been hooked on windows mobile. I liked the 910 but always wanted a bigger screen. Funny thing is this screen isn't bigger. However when I look at my brothers 910 i think 2 things:
DAmn this thing is super pixelated
and
I never realized how wide it was.
However I think HP does a way better job than HTC. I never had so many problems with my 6515, as I do with this phone. But, I can't go back once I had a taste of this vga sexy goodness.

when is that supposed to be released? I'm definitely going to get one.
btw.. im squeezing more battery life out of my fuze with NATF's cooked ROM. I've had it on for about 14 hours and its only at 75% with moderate usage... I did turn off HSDPA because i thought 3G would get me a little better battery life

if you want battery life, go with blackjack II or maybe even epix. Of all the phone's I've used, motorola probably lasts forever. U can always wait for their android phone~ HP is HUGE (have you seen it in person?)
I'm not having too much battery life problem running RomeOs. I hear NATF's really good too (i'm waiting for him to stabilize his ROM for GOOD b4 switching, i'm new to the flashing world so I'd rather wait until all the kinks are fixed). are you on 3G the whole time? No phone lasts long when they're on the 3G network constantly. maybe try disconnecting it after X seconds of inactivity?
I'm also planning to get a spare battery so i can make full use of the media functionality (ie. music over bluetooth, video, browsing...etc). Replaceable battery was one of the deciding factors for me when I was hunting for a new phone.
and...um...not sure if anyone's felt the same way, the topic for this thread's a bit belittling. I understand you're not satisfied with your handset, but there's really no need to make all the other fuze users who aren't jumping ship seem like idiots who cling onto their phone even tho it's "defective". (that's was the first thought that came to my mind before I actually read your post and understood ur dilemma). sorry about the vent, just had to get it out

lol...i'm definitely not attacking other fuze owners. just wondering how seriously people think the phone's flaws are. i'm going to try a cooked ROM and see how that goes.

Had to put my .02 in. Yes, I am jumping ship...from the iPhone to the Fuze. As an oldtime smartphone addict, I've tried a bunch of em over the years (yep, paid 599 for the original iPhone, but at least I didn't stand in line for it). Didn't upgrade to the 3G, cause they didn't add in the no-brainer stuff that everyone has talked about (and didn't want to give up my $20 data plan for a minimal upgrade). I will miss the SWEET UI, but the get-back features that the Fuze brings to the table are worth it (not to mention not having to juggle everything thru iTunes). From everything I've read, yes there have been some infancy gotcha's, but it appears to me that you smart folks have fixed the huge majority of them. Thanks guys <followed by an I'm not worthy bow> for the fixes, and this incredible info forum!

Well, to sum it up the Fuze for me:
o +0.6 is less broken than the Tilt graphically because it has some 2D/3D acceleration, but it's something like 60% of Kaiser's speeds.
o -1.0 has broken d-pad design by that company that designs only for show (and since HTC bought them, expect more of it)
o -1.0 poor case design that won't stand up to wear nor finger prints
o +1.5 has G-sensors that would make cool programming possibilities
o +1.0 has VGA display that should've been standard with Kaiser
0 +0.0 decent keyboard
o -1.0 is inferior, cheap-skate HTC/Qualcomm combination
vs Xperia (which I have yet to find in a store [and now delayed to January 12th, 2009]):
o +0.4 is less broken than Tilt graphically, but ~85% of Fuze's speed
o +0.5 doesn't have broken d-pad design, but questionable optical cursor
o +1.0 good case design that'll stand up to wear and fingerprints
o -1.5 doesn't have G-sensors for advanced programs
o +1.5 has VGA+ display for more screen estate usage such as PalmOS like writing/game-controller area
o -0.5 blah keyboard
o -1.0 is inferior, cheap-skate HTC/Qualcomm combination
so 0.1 versus 0.4 over the Kaiser. Hmm..
If only there was alternative Samsung/Xscale pda + 3D + accelerometers that isn't the iPhone.

This phone is starting to become a pain....

I was excited when I got this phone, everything was going cool and all that....
The battery is the worst thing I have ever seen. I've tried all the radios, got all the power tweaks applied, I get down to 75% battery on EDGE, only texting in less than 5 hours. WTF is this? Is this a joke? It's not even funny! And not to mention the unreliabilty of the phone. I plan to send an email to HTC and ATT to see if I can work out anything. Never buying a phone from HTC again.
I think it's your rom. I get through a full day on H no problem. Which roms have you tried?
Also it could be radio and what most likely is the signal strength. As weaker the signal, as more power required to compensate.
WAAAAHHHH! Don't buy a smart phone then.
I get a full days use. About 2 hours of music playing, signed into an IM client and do some msg and talking and still have 75% at the end of the day.
My guess that its your rom, but i am betting you didn't change the setting in HTC's task manager.
Go to Settings > system > Task manager and change the close action button actually close the buttom. The default action for WM task manager and HTC task manager is to minimize or hide the apps.
So let's say i open WMPlayer, Google Maps, Contacts, Text, Microsoft word. I hit the X, but if i don't change that setting, when i press the X, those programs are still running consuming battery and memory.
Try making sure no unneeded tasks are running and update your radio to 1.14.25.05, and Da_G's 6.5 rom and lets see how ya do next week.

Yo PwnCakes193..
I feel yur agony.. I used to experience shi tty battery life too.. My raphael can only sustained for like 5 hours.. without battery draining applications like music player even running..
However, Things took a turn when i flashed my raphael to the following rom and radio:
ROM Version: ROMeOS v1.95.4 WWE
Radio: 1.12.25.19 (With matching rilphone version)
It is so much better now !! I have calls and sms coming in while Garmin GPS is running for like an hour with battery dropping only 15% from 100% to 75%... !! And i **** u not.. And by the way.. my raphael's been with me for like 5 months now.. I'm loving it more each day..
Good luck and hav fun!
Too advanced for you?

Well go buy an iPhone and stop cluttering our forum. They are made for the mainstream trendy techno gadget people who cant solve their own problems, but still want to look cool and smart in public when they pull out their phone. Neither ATT or HTC is going to change their whole hardware because of your e-mail.
Do you even realize what youre saying? Do you listen to yourself when you talk? First off, anyone that knows how to use their phone, and sets up the correct ROM/RIL/Radio combination gets a full day charge off of it, sometimes even a couple days. Second, do you realize that is a small PC in your pocket, and youre complaining about battery life?? Have you ever used a laptop? You know that brand new laptops only get 2-3 hours of battery life right?
Really, go get a regular phone, HTC phones are not made for everyone, and apparently this one is too complicated for you.
I echo what's been said in above posts and would add as a suggestion only to try the new htc rom with the 1.14.xx radio both are the latest from htc. Boring I know, but very stable. Don't throw your device away without trying it. The custom roms can be frustrating as they can be unstable at times, but very fun to tweak and experiment with.It sounds like yourmore a user who wants stability over the rest. Go to htc site and search for latest rom, try that 1.14 radio and report back.
I use a 1800 mAh battery in my pro and I always charge everynight. Not a big deal. I also have prolly less than the 75% you reported at the same time, another not a big deal. "it is what it is" You can adapt or you can get a diff phone. I have an LG dumb phone my work supplies me for calls only, that battery lasts 2 weeks . LOL!!
wow, harsh words.
It's not like this complaint is an isolated one. There are other forums out there(AT&T, and Howard) that have the same observations about battery life. To say that it is a portable pc and that someone should be happy with 6-8 hours of battery life is pretty silly too. It is a smartphone, like the blackberry, like the treo, like the blackberry. And when people complained about the battery life of the Iphone, it's not like everyone said, deal with it. Apple released another firmware to try and remedy this. Blackberrys seem to go for a couple if not more days without charging with 3G, push email etc running, so why would this not be expected from the Fuze?
I own both the Tilt and the Fuze and find I can squeeze out about 3 days with push email, a bluetooth headset, about an hour or two a day of listening to music through the headset and 3G enabled. The Fuze is supposed to be the successor of the tilt, so wouldn't it be logical to think i should be able to do the same with this product? I have flashed several different roms and radios(with the rilphone.dll) and right now cannot get past 8 hours of usage on it. I thought it was the radio but I have tested it without a sim in it and get the same results. So either the battery is faulty, or it just stinks.
I am going through troubleshooting it right now, and based on some helpful hints on other forums, am trying to discharge the battery fully in hopes that it resets the battery guage.
I think helpful posts, like those that say try a new radio/rom are good ways to respond. Saying "go get an Iphone" or "this is a ppc, deal with the battery" are not helpful to people who search the forums for solutions.
Just my 2(maybe a lot more) cents

Really? Listen a**hole, I know what I'm dealing with. I'm running the 21210 build of 6.5 that I cooked in Da_G's Kitchen with the .20M1 radio AND RIL. Yes, I know i'm being picky, but a phone should last at least a little while, no matter what. I get a full day charge, but just texting and no calling, on EDGE, I should easily be down to 85% in 24 hours. I know it's a small PC, but that is no excuse. I am a mainstream tech savvy person, and I mod/hack everything I own, use everything to it's full potential. I don't want an iPhone because its an overhyped and, in my opinion, horrible phone. I was never trying to look cool when I bought this phone. I even helped a few members out here when they bricked their phones, and I taught a few how to cook ROMs!

The Fuze is supposed to be the successor of the Tilt? I guess according to the order that ATT purchased their HTC phones, but probably not according to HTC...
The HTC Touch Pro is the successor of the Diamond. Just because ATT replaced the Tilt with the Fuze does not mean its the successor. Tmobile is calling the TP2 the "Wing 2" in America, does that mean it's the successor to the wing?? NO. If anything most hardcore HTC follower will agree the TP2 is the successor to the Tilt (kinda obvious isn't it?).
Regardless of what order they came in, or what phone its supposed to replace, the Fuze has a bigger processor, twice as much ram, and twice as high resolution LCD. Its hard to compare the 2 on battery life. My Tilt gets a faster GPS lock, and the battery lasts way longer, than the Fuze. Does that mean its better? NO.
If you're such a badass 'hacker' then you should obviously understand how much power the hardware in your device uses vs the size of the battery.
I'm the troll? You joined XDA a month ago....
If you have an honest question where you need help then please ask, and im sure someone will help you get MUCH better battery life! All i really meant by what i was saying before i got sidetracked, is that if you don't like your HTC products, or it doesn't fit your lifestyle like you thought it would, then take it back, and get something else. Just don't come into a HTC forum, and start badmouthing products, because that will get you nowhere, and you should have been expecting the answer you got.
I'm with leak73 on this one. I think this forum is great, but I do think there are too many people that jump on someone as soon as they say anything negative about this phone.
I bought this phone to make my life easier, to manage work and personal tasks on the same device. I thought this device was the one I had been waiting for.
I am also disappointed with the performance of the Raphael. And I don't think it should be asking too much to expect the device to work properly straight out of the box. Yes, I appreciate that this is a windows mobile device that has massive flexibility and can be customised, but those possibilites should be in addition to a stock device that does the basics properly.
I have had a number of issues with the phone - battery life, dailer issues, poor reception (and I know this can contribute to poor battery life, but why should it be so much worse than other devices I have used in the same areas?).
The members on this forum have helped me out a lot over the past few months (which I am very grateful for) tweaking and trying to get this phone to be what it should have been in the first place. And while I am now enjoying tweaking and customising my phone, I will never criticise anyone who points out the shameful fact that this device is virtually unusable without putting time and effort into sorting it out.

I hear that, I can relate as I've had my s**t jumped a few times on this forum as well and I always learned from it. I'm not an expert at all and thats the reason I come here to learn about my various wm devices, currently the touch pro. I undestand the issues especially with battery and stability.Except for battery I don't have any complaints that you mention. My RF which I value as a number 1 priority is very good. No dialer issues here either. I also think it would be nice to have perfectly operating devices right out of the box and considering what we pay for these things, it seems we should get better. In my experience all the wm devices I've ever had have had inadequate batteries. It's just the way it is. I did not expect my pro to be any diff. in that regard. I got it anyway and bought a better battery. In the past few weeks I've tried various 6.5 roms with differing results and none were very stable. It's the way it is and I don't really expect it to be better, but I love it anyway. I've used symbian s60 nokia devices and thought some of the e series have outstanding stability and battery life. So I have choices.
My choice is to continue learning and I'll get extended batteries when I think I need it. When I get tired of the wm BS I'll go back to E series for awhile.
For anyone who is calling themselves proficient in wm and the various ins and outs of flashing and obviously has some experience apparently, I find it kinda strange that they would be surprised by the battery life. Stability can be had from diff rom combos. But bad battery life is a given with wm. we get used to it and move on or go check out e series. It also rocks! Lotsa choices.
Maybe I am one of the unluck ones that have experienced more than my fair share of problems. I have had more issues than I mentioned in my last post - obviously the GPS problem, keyboard lag (although it seams to be fixed now with tweaking), dodgy call acceptance/ring delay (this seems sorted in the new HTC Rom), active sync issues (not sure if this is the software though) and the general lock up issues.
Don't get me wrong though when this device works it is everything I hoped for, I just wish it worked like that all (or at least most) of the time.

what tweaks did you apply to fix the keyboard lag?
wow, boys, calm down. *****ing at each other is oh so productive. maybe we could try to HELP each other out and be friends! just a thought...
i'm getting maybe 12 hours on a full charge running the leaked att stock rom and it's really starting to tick me off. i bought a portable power pack that can give me a full charge on its full charge (Xpal harry II) but i want to be able to get AT LEAST a full day without having to pop it onto a usb or wall charger for 20 minutes. im thinknig of flashing to da_g's or natf's 6.1 roms witihn the next couple weeks hoping that they'd be able to improve my battery life. i'm pretty happy with the radio and i'm in boston so no major signal issues there. maybe it's just a sh*tty rom draining my battery?
and now that i wasted 10 minutes reading this thread, i'm giong to go back to studying for finals. joy.
EDIT: I installed the fuzeberry theme a week or two ago and that's caused a TF3D problem (see my thread here about this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=511760) but is there any chance that THIS is also killing my battery? hate the att manila but i might have to revert back if it gets me more hours :\

try using a 6.5 ROM I cooked now, it's doing fairly well, i would Hard-SPL, then try and flash a new radio or ROM, should help you out, turn off 3G, which should help. Also download advanceconfig and turn on the power saving items there.
FWIW, I have never had good results with the gps, but since I flashed the htc 5.05.401.1 with radio: 1.14.25.05 I now get very quick lock times. Also battery is a bit better even tho I'm running shell3.

I am the only one with a phone with no bugs?

Maybe it's because I upgraded from an ancient AT&T Tilt (not Tilt II!) and this phone is just so much better that I don't notice the flaws.
But every post on here where people mention some bug or another and Mine does not have said bug.
My GPS works, even in the house (which I thought was not possible, because the GPS signal isn't supposed to go through walls)
My Battery lasts from 9:30 am until midnight with downloads, music, calls, video, browsing, and facebook. I have all of the default battery saving options.
My accelerometer/gyro work perfectly.
Please tell me I'm not the only one, because I am so happy with this phone, and it would be a shame if so many people where having problems that it became a flop.
Just my take on it. It is a new phone so there is still a lot of "unknown" about the phone. Also, if you go to any kind of forum like this you usually see a lot of issue/help threads rather than praise threads. Its just the way it is.
I got mine yesterday.. and love the hell out of it.. No problems at all so far, and have not been able to put it down. hahaha
Mine is great
I love my phone and have had no problems at all. and I love swpe, I almost forgot how to type
Jon

I upgraded from a touch diamond and this phone is beastly or I just waited too long to upgrade
I did have a GPS problem though, it wouldnt lock on in like 15 minutes, but I changed the settings and I get a lock pretty fast now.
Lag? None. Touchwiz? Decent, and less choppy than launcherpro!
Phone is real good.
They sold almost a million Galaxy S devices before even launching in the states, and the only 'common' problem I have seen that is not obviously software is the GPS issues. But it seems like most can change around a few settings and be fine.
Most if not all of my issues are because I do not know android. Once one or two software updates come out (or cooks make some nice custom roms with bug fixes) most if not all problems I think will vanish.
Nope
No problems, except for the GPS issue. But I live in NYC, and the buildings have always been an issue when trying to connect to the satellites with any device. Anyway, with that said, no issues with the phone/settings/performance etc. at all.

I'll one-up you, I unplug my phone at 6:30 AM when I am about to leave for work and didn't plug it in until it started complaining at me 28 hours later. Thats pretty darn good given the screen size and the fact that I was using wifi and 3G throughout the day.
Coming from a Iphone 3g.
Got my Captivate on Tuesday. Rooted it, took off the junk. Mine is running great even with no new launcher and live backround. GPS works great too.
No bugs here and phone is way faster then any other phone I have ever used.
Mine is running great too. Maybe it's because I'm not a perfectionist, but I love my phone after removing touchwiz it's even faster too.
So far, so good. Any "issues" can be traced back to my ignorance of an Android-based phone, but being a persistent sort I've either figured out the answers myself or by trolling forums. I would venture a guess that most listed problems relate to:
1. Unrealistic expectations that this new phone should behave the same way, or very similar to an older phone, e.g., number of bars should equal previous phone's number of bars and stuff like that.
2. The results of newbies futzing within the depths of the phone without recognizing the potential consequences of their actions should they screw up.
3. Glitches or wishes that will be addressed in updates.
4. Real problems that can be rectified by a swap within the 30 days.
5. Imagined problems that can be rectified by a reality check.
...and so on.
In any event, I have high expectations and this phone has certainly come close to meeting them.
Now if I can just not drop it before I get a case. If it's not in my pocket I find myself holding it like it's an egg.

Regrets???

[email protected],
Are you regret n the buy of this phone? I do! This phone makes me mad. Is such a buggy piece of crap is unbelievable. There is almost no custom Roms battery life sucks even without using s3d, apps aren't working proper and i have to reboot this frekin phone after a while to work properly.
I can say this is a epic fail in my eyes. Not once had I this much of problems with a smartphone.
Unfortunately I paid a premium price for this crappy fon.
I really hope gb will iron out those problems or else I'll get f$%@#n mental.

who is "GB"?
heard that name a couple of times but still dont know.
And well...i trade my evo 3d in tommorow and get the optimus 3d.
The evo3d surely isnt a better device. lag and speed drops all the way, everywhere. even pinch to zoom in the browser lags...and i need to wait everywhere...even wait 1 - 2 secs before the keyboards pops up.
And it didnt sync my emails properly.
Wanted to buy the galaxy s2 but well....i DID love the evo 3d's 3d screen. its nicer then on the o3d because resolution, but that means its not far off.
Glad I've visited from s2 section was gonna go from s2 to optimus 3d it looks superb on reviews on you tube but is it as good as they make out, I like to be up to date on my smart phones but might stick with s2 what do you users think.?

Hi mate. You really seem to have problems with your O3D. Have had mine for more than 1 month and its incredible. I had a SGS2 before and i just can't miss anything from that.I made my own custom ROM (you should do that too) and it works amazing, fast and stable.I have all Gameloft 3D games and they work just better in 3D than in the SGS2 in 2D wich needed its GPU to be locked at max to get descent FPS.In my opinion the LG O3D is the only phone out there that i could say "WOWWW" after playing with.Battery life is really bad i agree, but have you tried the other dual core phones ? they are pretty terrible as well. We gonna get GB soon and im pretty sure that the phone is gonna get a lot better, FROYO dont work properly on dual core devices. As soon as we get GB Im gonna start developing again, dont want to waste time with Froyo.
No regrets what so ever, its so super fast,no lag at all...love it !!!

Haven't noticed any major bugs with the phone, sure the software is far from the best but not that bad IMO and LG have released patches.
As for Custom ROMs, really what do people think? the phone is extremely new, released like 2 months ago and not even out in the US yet, CM is under development, going pretty fast but it still takes time, it's not like they can just pull it out of a hat, it takes hard work and many hours, in this case given by Ricardo who does this on his free time and not only for the O3D but other hardware as well, expecting a massive amount of CustomROMs within 2 months seems a bit ... After CM is released you'll probably see much more custom ROMs appearing.
Battery life is low yes (not really a surprise if you'd read anything about the phone before getting it) , much because of the screen but also because of unoptimized code because of new hardware etc. will hopefully get better with new software releases or you could get another battery or portable charger. (Running 3D actually doesn't require that much more battery then running the screen normally, it's the brightness and the screen tech that needs a fair amount of power).
If you could be more specific with what problems you have exactly people might be able to help you, just screaming bloody murder wont help much.
For ex.
What apps aren't working properly? And how aren't they working?
What are you doing when you have to reboot the phone to get it to work?
Got any custom apps like a custom lockscreen like agile lock or a custom home app?
Have you tried any battery saving apps?
Also if you haven't had problems like this before with a Smart phone you are either very lucky or you've never bought a extremely new smart phone, all new releases got a few problems here and there, the worst problems usually get sorted about 6 months after first release, compared to my other phones this one has had surprisingly few major issues for being a new phone and that's even more impressive when you realise that it's a new chipset for phones.
I had an HD2 with CM7 when this phone arrived (so I'm not a newbie here). It's for testing 'cause iPhone 4 is a bit expensive so where I work are in search of a good high end working phone.
The O3D has all the requisites out of the box but one: battery. I had it in a construction area and it barely reached 10 hours of normal use plus some gps.
About the hangs and apps that don't work... I only had a problem with Tasker, and it seems it was my problem and not the phone.
IMHO it's a good phone. Maybe your unit was defective?

Someone tell what or who GB is or il open a topic lol...
I do regret it at moment, having come from a galaxy s with custom roms and absolute crazy battery life..at moment I'd swap it for a galaxy II..BUT am waiting for the october update and more custom roms, so it's still early days for this phone so gonna stick with it as slowly it seems to be moving forward...
@borgqueen the gb they are refering to is gingerbread
Lol I guess I created the topic on a weak moment. But seriously I hate sometimes this fon. Although I got a battery pack with higher capacity the battery dies prematurely. And no I didn't try any other dual core fones but heard that the galaxy 2 has much better battery life.
And I did had the newest smartphones such as htc desire etc.
So be more specific my issues are
1. YouTube player is acting out sometimes and if I fastforward then there seems to be weird color distortion
2. Can't change the bloody user agent in dolphin browser (might be the browser tough heard some fons have this bug) and also sometimes dolphin browser isn't reacting at all or any other browser until I reboot the fone? So definitely not browser related
3. Watching online flash content is a nightmare and this could be froyo related as on any gb fon I tried there where no issues non so ever .
4. Battery life is horrendous
5. Battery life is horrendous
6. Fon doesn't react some times at all and i have to force reboot
I think the fon has great potential but the software is so not in tune with the fon. So as I said I really hope GB will solve some issues here.
By the way I really don't want to offend anyone but it's just my opinion on things so don't fanboy me )

Dual core phone actually require less battery than single core, but the difference is not that big, SGS2 has a Super AMOLED+ screen and a little bit more power in the battery = more time on a charge. (but from what I've heard they also have some problems with some units magically draining like 30% of battery in mere minutes, only hear say for me though so don't quote me on that)
Haven't watched that much Youtube on the phone but seems more like a network or app problem than the phone?
Sure that Dophin browser don't have a problem with the phone and are affecting other browsers? I've used FF and Original, actually like the Original best and I've not experienced that the browser stopped responding, some apps that are not working correctly can affect other apps, Agile Lock for some reason killed my SIM unlock app and made it almost impossible to use the phone, removed it and haven't had any problem with the SIM card after that.
Nightmare in what way? Laggy?
Battery life is pretty bad, true, not much you can do about it, use a lower brightness on your screen, try out CPU tuner and limit the phone, I've actually got my phone running MAX 600Mhz instead of 1Ghz, gives me about an hour of extra active usage and haven't found anything that really suffers because of the slower speed. Hopefully software updates will help the battery life, my old Hero had like 6hours usage when I first got it, when I retired it that was up to 24-48hours. Also if you need it, check out portable charger on Ebay, I got mine for ~$30 from Hong Kong, 5000mAh just plug in and charge via USB, with the 5V 1A output it fully recharges my phone from 0-100% in just under 3 hours and with the extra mAh you got like 2days away from the outlet, not ideal but works
Or get the 3500mAh battery if you prefer that.
Is it in sleep mode it stops reacting? That's some software glitch that LG has in their 2.2 release, only seems to affect some people noticeably, LG O2X has the same glitch and a nightly not to long ago for CM7 on the O2X reproduced the problem from what I've read.
Or is it while using it that it just stops responding?
I'll try now few other roms out there. No the fon freezes while using the fon actively. I got the problem with sleep too. Anyways there is no way other than wait for a proper cm7 release. Guess is not that far away, no

I am back on a GS2 and it smokes this phone totally, still have the O3D but I don't use it now, i have come to the conclusion even with the 3D it doesn't make it a good choice over the GS2 its just better in every way.
Hmm i dont regret at all having this phone i had iphone 4 before optimus 3d and i have to say its the best phone i ever have had in all ways...but yeah the battery are a little problem my tip for that take down the quick meny and turn off all data settings like wifi 3g bluetooth after turned off all those settings the battery have lasted for about 2 days and i still have power on it...so no the battery are not the biggest problem here if you do that! and like alot reviews are saying android is leeching data alot therfor it use power turn those off to save battery
This phone is awesome. Anyone who regrets buying it has problems with "grass is greener syndrome" which no amount of coding and tweaking can solve.
The problem is not with the phone. The problem is with your lack of patience and understanding of what is realistic performance and developer support of a brand new device.
Chill out, smoke em if you got em. Most of us will have this phone for a year minimum so there will be plenty of software improvements from both LG and the dev community during that time. LG have already updated like three times. My motorola milestone didnt even get three updates in ITS ENTIRE LIFESPAN.
Be appreciative of what you have.

I totally agree this phone is great. I've only been using it since Saturday, but I'm extremely impressed. It's speedy, responsive. I'm digging 3D photos and gaming. The build quality is excellent. It feels sturdy and not cheap or too plasticky.
As with all phones, there are drawbacks like the battery life, but it's by no means a deal-breaker. It's also relatively easy to improve (Juice Defender, reduced screen brightness, etc.). Also, if I try to open too many games at once it may freeze on occasion, but all of the 3D games are very hardcore, resource-intensive applications so any phone will freak if you push it too far.
I couldn't be happier with it.

htc hd7s

just orderd my htc hd7s what can i expect? going to install mango as soon as i get it. how is the batter life? i get 8-12 hours on my infuse
Not sure about the HD7, but it's pretty dismal. Prepare to turn off push, limit your live tiles, turn the brightness down, turn off location, etc.
Probably not as bad as Androids, but not the best either.

hmm....i leave all of that running on my android and still get the 8-12 hours. might have to return the phone or get some extra batteries
I get about 32 hours out of a charge on my HD7. 2 email accounts, hotmail and gmail. Not really a real heavy user though, too busy doing work and other stuff.
I'm in the habit of charging it every night so it never runs out. My phone hasn't been off in about 2 months for any reason (unless you count resets for firmware flashes).
I am a heavy user of my HD7, 2 email accounts with push enabled lots of web browsing, reading on kindle and listening to music, it has never failed to get me through my 16 hour day, i charge it every night.
Not sure what heavy use means to you people. I'm a heavy user and there's no way in hell the HD7 can last 16 hours with that battery. Just not gonna happen.
HD7s is an AT&T phone. If you want a WP7 phone on AT&T then get the focus. The extra 0.3 inches is not worth getting the HD7s.
Good rule of thumb is don't buy any smartphone with less than a 1400 mAh battery unless it's a blackberry. Really high end devices, you prolly want at least 1600. On T-Mobile there wasn't a choice unless you wanted to buy from Dell, but that creates issues in cases when you get DOA and defective devices (have to ship back, get shipped a new one, etc. instead of just driving 10 minutes to a carrier store), so we had to deal with it. I don't recommend this phone. The battery is the primary reason, but aside from that this phone has the worse sound of all the WP7 launch devices.

Well, I also get 16 hours of use easily with my HD7s. Also, having previously owned a Focus, I much prefer the HD7s and I am having better success with battery life vs the Focus.
I'm not sure what you mean about the sound, but no issues on my end. The HD7s has a much better look and feel and reading text is much better than it was on the Focus. The SAMOLED may be great for movies, but it is sub par for reading text. HTC also provides much more useful OEM apps and add-ons than Samsung.

I have a slightly different experience w/ the sound - so far the sound is better than the focus. Everything else though, is in the Focus' favor (outside viewing of the screen turned out to be much more important than I thought - it was awesome on the focus).
The battery is dreadfully inadequate on this device. My calling, e-mail, browsing, etc., ran it out of charge by the end of the workday and I was charging it up in the car on the way home. I could make it all the way to bed w/ my Focus (since once home I tended to use my device less).
An acceptable workaround for me has been the Power Skin (other's milage will vary greatly since it's a personal thing) .
The Power Skin gives me an extra 1500 (?) on the battery. It's different than I thought it would be - the phone works like it's pluged in and charging all day. When the skin is out of juice I slip it off and return to the nice sleek phone again. Pushing the power and volume buttons throgh the thick protective skin took some getting used to, but they're ok I guess.
If I'm going out and want to slip the phone in my pocket I just take off the skin and run w/out it. For me, it's more versitile than a larger battery w/ a new back cover since I have the best of both worlds (more power when I want or need it, slim phone when that's what I want or need).

I also get confused when I read things like this. I have the LG Quantum, 3.8". Wouldn't it take even less power than the HD7? With moderate use, I'm charging it by 3pm (off the charger at 7am). Or on the commute home at 6pm. Cause if not, it's dying by dinner time. And I've got a 1500 battery (which I believe is 100 more than the HD7 has).
-edit-
HOWEVER, to the OP:
I do recommend this phone. It just works. No fuss, no muss. Someone else has said it on here, but you just pick which set of limitations you're willing to live with. There's no HDMI out, XviD support, or robust DLNA functionality, which I'm finding is more important to me than previously thought. But everything works sooo well. Seemless, smooth, zero lag, graphically pleasing. Fantastic.
I've said it before, just head into a store and play with one until they kick you out.
I use my HD7s all the time (exchange, email, internet, music, games, wi-fi, games) so I'll occasionally have to charge mine at my desk at work. But if i'm not messing around with it all times of the day (like I usually am b/c I love my phone so much)...the battery lasts all day from when I wake up til I go to bed at night.
N8ter seems to have a knack for coming on the boards and slandering what he can, so I wouldn't put much trust in him.
I myself came from a Focus to an HD7S and it's pretty okay. The battery lasts quite a long time for being such a small one. I get about 14-16 hours of use if I'm checking my phone a lot, using FB, playing games, making a call and refreshing my email. I am on WiFi most of the time but I really don't see any difference using cellular data. I can get easily 24+ hours off one charge if I'm just using it a few times during the day.
The one gripe I really have about the HD7S is the screen. The ghosting on it is absolutely horrible. With the Mango update installed, I noticed it wasn't much of a problem reading scrolling white text as much, but grey text still was unreadable and tiles had a "streaking" effect still. Either way, my next phone won't be an HTC unless they change their panels. It's not really the blacks of the AMOLED screen that draw me in as much as outdoor visibility, brightness/vibrance and the ability to actually read text while you're scrolling. The Focus has it beat there. I reckon once a good price is found on eBay for one, I'll be switching over to a Focus S. The 4.3'' screen size is awesome, but WP7 really isn't made for SLCD.
thanks for the feedback. i decided against the focus because my other samsung phone seems to have really bad service, even my brother mom and dad that have the same phone said it about their samsung. i am really excited about mango.im a little confused on what i need to do to get mango installed. seems to be a lot of diff mango threads for this phone. does the htc come with a different live weather tile then the htc hub?

Sadly, the Focus BL isn't any better than the HD7. They both are pretty much horrible.
I predict the OP will be returning his WP7 phone before long...unless he just loves the style, smoothness and elegance of WP7 enough to live with it...even with Mango.

Don't expect much help from the devs. They tend to ignore questions because they believe any question that can ever be posted is already answered out there in the world wide web...so read.
And the rooting of WP7 phones is quite complex and vague.
i might just buy extra batteries if the battery life is that bad. so i root then install a rom with mango, right? just like my android
It's not root, it's unlock. All it does is allow you to sideload apps such as homebrew. With official unlock, you can unlock anytime. The Chevron method must be done before NoDo. Just find a pre-NoDo ROM for the HD7(S) & flash away. Chevron Unlock & upgrade to NoDo. Passing it into Mango is a bit more work as, at least with the leaks, Mango relocks WP7. there's a way to do it with ProvXML & HTC's Connection setup app. There will be an official Chevron labs Unlock for Mango that will cost money, but cut out a lot of the work. There is work on a root tool by Heathcliff & a FullUnlock (Unofficial name) by Cotulla in the works. These look promising, plus the custom update CAB's for custom ROM's that'll allow you to apply custom updates to the ROM (Change registry, patch system files, possibilities are endless).
As for battery life, I'm pretty sure I already said it. I get 8 hrs of work on moderate to heavy usage on & have 50+% left at least. I browse the internet, check Facebook, use Bing Maps, Check Emails, make calls, send SMS/MMS, all the normal stuff. Sometimes I even forget to turn off WiFi, which is supposed to eat battery life. Today alone, I used Bind Maps for directions from one delivery to another twice for a total of 1 hr with the screen on constantly, no car charger, just ordered one for work. I honestly don't know why people are complaining about battery life, it's not bad at all IMHO.

The SLCD screen is decent. The screen is much better than the panel on the original HD7.
That being said. I'm not slandering anything. Anyone who claims to be getting 16 hours with "heavy use" on this phons either lying or using a definition of "heavy use" that none of us have ever heard before. The phone never goes that long on heavy use. It's practically impossible to do it.
If they get 16 hours of heavy use on an HD7, then I get 400 hours of heavy use on my Vibrant. That's how ridiculous that sounds, and is.
What kind of plan that AT&T require you to stick with the HD7s?

Like what can you choose on your plan? Or you must stick with only one plan that At&T provide for hd7s?

Could YOU go back to a Nokia E71?

Just having a look on my phone and I relise that all the things I use and rely on are available on my previous Symbian Nokia E71 and that in fact if I still had my E55 I'd be able to almost everything I do now but with 5 days battery life for camping trips instead of 1.
The Nokia E71 was released in 2008. We're now looking to 2013. This makes me want to take stock and say are we really achieving anything with smartphones these days?
Yes, there is massive improvement in an entertainment way and to be honest it's the tweaking and hacking that I love...
and indeed they are getting easier to use...
But my E55 used to be readable in bright sunlight, had global maps coverage, no wakelock problems and loads more battery life. I don't think any of that is possible with a Galaxy Note?
When I look at my frequently used, useful apps I see the following that is available on Symbian:
- VoIP via Fring
- Opera Mini... that fills in many gaps for the lack of apps
- various encryption apps, but... is this with a better security model than permissions that have been broken and sdcards that can be read?
- Gmail
- Global sat nav maps precachable
The only thing don't see that I use regularly is the HDRCam app but do I really need amazing photos?
What about you? Do you find the ebay or Eggdrop apps essential? What about QR codes?
Could you go back to a Nokia E71?
The best features of S60 was battery life I have a 6120c and I had a E72 both phones last 2 - 3 days easily and Copy/paste text Remember iOS before 2009?
What would stop me more from going back to these phones is that non touch devices blow at browsing the web, and also the fact that on Symbian you can't turn 3g connection off, which will most likely kill your battery if you have something like whatsapp installed. I could even be fine with everything else, looking at how I use my phone right now. You're kinda right, most of the mobile innovations of the latest years actually have to do more with entertainment than with anything else. Basic functions actually got better but there's actually nothing spectacular going on with that, apart from internet speeds being bumped up.

You can change 3G only to dual mode or 2G only in settings -> phone -> network or something like that.
I have an E71 that I got for testing purposes with our mail system. The stock interface is awful compared to the latest smartphones.
That said, I took it when travelling internationally last year. As a phone and a device to get mail, it worked fantastic. It easily kept a charge all day long, often through 12+ hour work days.
I'm not going to use it as my everyday phone, but I am going to keep this bad boy and use it when I travel or when I what i need most is a phone that will stay charged longer.
I used to own an e71...until someone stole it while I was sleeping by my bedside. Lol. Easiest robbery ever I think.
Anyway...yeah it was a very good handset for its time. Loved it to bits. Battery was very good and the keyboard was a particular favorite. Last phone I had with any physical keyboard actually.
I could not see myself go back to it however. Just be a big step backwards in terms of apps and general performance. Everything except for battery life is so much better on the modern smart phones of nowadays.

Not exactly the same but: I miss my e90 :-( It was the best phone ever! I just wish it had US 3G. No other phone keyboard I have ever used measured up to that phone... I wonder if I could use it as a bluetooth keyboard....
Well, I have been forced into going back to my E71 while my Galaxy SII is under going warranty repair (it refused to connect to the mobile network one day after running it's battery flat).
What I miss most is my calendar syncing, and a decent imap email client that doesn't bomb when you have a few emails in the inbox. As others have said the smartphones are way better for web browsing. The E71's user interface seems just awkward and somewhat counter intuitive. I actually like the physical keyboard better then the touch screen keyboard (doesn't take up screen real estate) but accessing the extended maps is a bit of a pain. I reacon the shift key is in the wrong place and should be in the bottom outside corner as it's used more. But then it's only been a few days and I'll no doubt get used to it again.
I'd really love to make it run android and might give it a crack once I've got my SGSII back.
yeah I could. I have a Nokia e5 as a back up and it does all of the essentials and is way better to type on than my current touch screen phone is. I would miss the syncing abilities of android, and the entertainment possibilities of the nice big screen.... and apps...but I'd definitely survive.
I still can a spare copy of my sim that goes in my Nokia E71 as I use it all the time when I go on camping trips and long distance when I would be away from my charger for a extended period of time. It is hardy phone and the battery life is legendary.
