Yeah me too.
Maybe because the new macbooks allow to use Windows on it.
And did you see the zune which was next to the macbook? Seems like it will be possible to synchronize it.
i paused it right when they showed the touch dual. here are my observations
1- they got rid of the fat top taskbar and made it a skinny status bar so it doesnt take up much space and still shows current status (time in the center, cant clearly see what are in the left and right corners)
2- ***stating the obvious** the bottom bar that we all have seen already with the center start orb and softkeys
3- they are still having the 6.5 style chome interface but updated with animated and expandable widgets for more ease of use and user friendliness

I thought they were going to release a Window Mobile version at the end of 2008. Hopfully they will release it soon.
I heard they were supposed to be releasing a limited beta. I was really looking forward to seeing what it was like. I kind of just forgot about it though.
FENNEC beta
I use it on Nokia n810 internet tablet. Recently updated again.
Now supports noscript extension, nothing more... and the fonts look crappy... I'm waiting for foxmarks to work, favourites and password synch would be perfect.
Opera has something similar but it's payant... grrrr
It is not bad anyway but no where as near to perfection as opera 9.5 on win mobile.
BTW the internet tablet is not that good browsing internet and touch screen can get better.
Now have touch hd 3.8 lcd.... it rocks and makes more things pleasant to do on a mobile phone
i am eager to try out fennec too. to bad i sold my n810 because i hated the browser har har. i guess i am going to have to wait longer
sorry double post. but check this out. i know someone has the skills to build it. https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Bui...ructions#WM6.1_Emulator_Images_IMPORTANT_NOTE
In short, there will probably be a public version built with the Touch Pro in mind next week.

Windows Mobile
We are targeting a Milestone release for the first week of February, targeting the HTC touch pro.
We are two patches away from the meta goal of building from trunk. The tools changes have review from dougt, and are waiting for review from ted, who has promised review by the end of the week. NSPR changes are waiting for review from Nelson, who asked for and received a patch against NSPR trunk

people will love you if you can build it fast and release it. i think it is crazy that people have built it and not released it as a bin.
crap the touch pro i hope that when they release it it supports qvga devices.
yeah I want it for my xv6800.
well pm if you can get a cab. thanks in advance.
http://people.mozilla.org/~blassey/fennec-1.0a3pre.en-US.wince-arm.cab
Disclaimer: have not checked it out.
oh snap thanks where did you find that? i am putting it on my ipaq emulator right now to see what we have.
well it on on the emulator when i try to launch it it does not launch.
actually it launched after quite a while but the picture was kinda distorted then it locked up.
that cabs 22 mb
yeah it is. any chance you have a vga device to test it on? or do you know of a windows mobile emulator that does vga?
edit yay it works on my tilt. too slow to be useable though.
kinda works on touch HD
I tried it this morning on my touch HD, it insyalled fine, launched fine (after quite a long time) but :
-It takes half of the screen
-It doesn't display the virtual keyboard so I can't enter an adress to test it ...
Wait and see the next version
A new version is out: http://www.fuzemobility.com/?p=1903
Check this out - it's called the Exeda??? (Never heard of them - apparently they specialise in embedded systems.
Also 6.5 looks very very very nice... Stunning even... and very different...
Very different to the builds I've seen floating around - (cough... blueangel... cough...)
http://www.exedamobile.com/web/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3&Itemid=7
sigh, I had really wanted them to put the task bar at the bottom or completely away with it and leave a 75% opaque small strip up there.
sure hope they improve email rendering.
but to heck with all the pictures I want to see it running. I want to have a good sense of what to expect.
but it looks ok so far.
I have seen these earlyer and the build they use with honeycomb interface and with the new CHome (Codename Titanium) is a lot newer than the leaked ones
"ugly device running on Windows Mobile 6.5" would've been a better title.
My question is how will 6.5 work with Touchflo 3D?
Finally, some better shots of WM 6.5. I hope they do more than just change the today screen though.

YUP = that one's got me confused too...
HTC'll probably have to disable it - therefore negating all their initial efforts to aesthetically update the wm gui...
hmmmm - guess time will tell on this one...
Am looking forward to the HTC's Rhodium and Tungsten running this WM 6.5 though - although I'd love those 2 phones to run Android too...
yeh, they can dump that device!
but, I'm itching to flash a 6.5 beta anyday now!

YUP - Me too!
Anything other than base 6.1 whatever build on my TPro sounds good to me!
6.1 feels like it's been out for eons!
True & very boring, WM6.1 has been out now for almost 18 months!
Goes to show how slow MS really is!
6.5 is just a minor ugrade to 6.1 hardly worth the extra 0.4 from what I've heard.
Tomal already has it working on a Universal http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=473096&page=3

I doubt
Probably everybody already knows that Microsoft was working on totally new Windows mobile version what will have multi touch gestures and fully revamped UI something like Vista style.
The latest news is that it will be shown off at Mobile World Congress next month with expected release date late this year. I hope to see some leeks very soon in these forums
You can read full article here.
Cheers, whitealien
it could be very interesting, get it works on polaris
I'm scared that it'll be too heavy for the Polaris isn't it?
And no multi-touch for us, or am I wrong? Don't know if multitouch is possible with resistive technology :/
polaris cant even touch win7. we might get cooked ROMs with similar UI
Thank you for the news.
what he meant is be prepared to buy a new powerful device ...

sounds pointless, i'm sick of buying phone os's that need a quicker CPU than the average laptop.
Windows 8 presentation. You will notice some of the UI
That's a tablet with windows 8 which kinda defeats the purpose of a windows PHONE. But still a good tablet

Nice! Even better presentation than the official one released yesterday.
I really like it. I've seen MS are getting some stick for it on some of the blog sites comments, but I think it's awesome.
I love the idea of the iPad - it's a touch friendly tablet. I don't like that it's a mobile OS.
So this ticks all the boxes:
1. It's a full powered OS
2. It can run properly on a tablet (with ARM support)
3. It's designed for touch - WP7 interface.
4. But it also has a "real" (i.e. Windows 7) interface as well, for those times you might want to put it on a desk and whack a keyboard and mouse with it.
Looks great and makes me thankful I didn't buy an iPad 2 or an Android tablet. Just wish it'd be out quicker lol.
Casey
Looks sweet. If they can tailor the "desktop" experience a little bit more towards touch I think I'll be sold on a tablet.

From what I've been able to read so far since the unveiling, it sounds like Microsoft is going to push the new interface as the default, and the old Win7 interface only for legacy apps. In other words, they want the WP7-like tile interface to be the Windows standard on all devices - phones, tablets, notebooks, and desktop PCs. For example, it is being designed to work in both a touch and keyboard/mouse environment. And, they are going to push for new versions of major 3rd party apps to be written to use the new interface, and not work with the old.
Whether they will succeed remains to be seen, but based on my WP7 user experience over the past 6 months, I think it just might work.

They definitely need a metro skin option for the desktop experience--if I'm using this new touch interface, I don't ever want to see the aero design clashing with it. Beyond that obvious gripe, I love it.
I will buy it on Day 1 of its release.
I like it. Just wondering if homescreen will have wallpapers or Start screen is actual homescreen...
It's too early to tell (much could change over the next year), but it looked like the Start screen is the home screen, at least in terms of it being the screen that will appear when you boot/log in to your PC. The current Windows 7 desktop will be more of an "app" that loads when needed.
I think you can change which one it goes to by default. Almost positive but I will try to find a verification.
Don't see how this pertains to windows "phone". As it totally looks like Media Center on crack. Laggy as hell, dont know if it was the video, or the person holding the camera. Jerk, jerk, jerk. Maybe I need to see another video.
I like the touch screen windows 7 by HP, with HPs touch friendly design on top, looked good and performs great.
Is this windows 8 or just the tablet OS?
It is Windows 8. Although one obvious application for it will be tablets, it is going to be the same OS on tablets, laptops, and desktops.
Although this was an early build (given that the OS won't be released until next year), there was zero lag in the demo. Any problems you saw were the fault of the person recording the video. I've seen about 8 other videos, and they are all just as smooth as the WP7 start screen.
As far as this not pertaining to Windows Phone, on one hand I agree, but on the other, it pertains very much. After watching the videos a few more times, I think this could create quite a bit of interest in WP7, thanks to the nearly identical UI.

Think it's Windows 8 for all PC's. At the end they mention something to that end. Not sure how it'd work when most PC's don't have touch screens & those that do are mostly the wannabe Laptop, all-in-one PoS's that are way over priced compared to a normal desktop. Would be nice if they started mass producing regular monitor with touch screen including the ultra high end like the 30" that supports 2560 x 1600 resolution.

And Windows 8 and the tablet OS are one and the same. Its the same thing on tablets as it is on desktops, with slight variances on how it interacts based on the device.

Does HP make a Windows 7 tablet?
I believe hp is committed to webos on all their toys. The only thing that holds me back from a tab is developing compatibility. I would love have a windows 8 tab as long as it has usb ports. Port for flashing a phone via executable file or using command prompts for rooting purposes. Then I would be able to give my kids my laptop. I haven't checked out the videos yet, but I will.
