Can't find GPS device - Touch Pro, Fuze General

I have the feeling that my Fuze doesn't have a GPS. Tomtom 7 doesn't find the GPS device and "GPS test" can't find the GPS unit...
What's wrong with it? Can anyone tell me how to fix it?

Try turning on AGPS, external GPS set to Com4. Launch GPS Test. Let GPSTest get a lock (usually under 30 seconds). Once there are a few sats located launch TT7. Make sure you are set to internal GPS in Preferences. After 15-20 seconds your signal should be loive in TT7

GPS / Google Maps Problem After Helmi Upgrade

After I upgraded to the helmi rom my GPS seems to have stoped working. Google maps attempts to get a fix for about 20 seconds, then throws an error that the GPS is not responding. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I have installed quickgps and downloaded the update with it, didnt seem to help.

I also have a problem. I was using helmi then upgraded to helmis big storage rom. I was geting gps fix in 20-30 seconds now i stood outside on different options (built in gps, other com 4) and waiting 5-10 minutes, nothing just searching for gps signal
Use a GPS test app, like GPSTest to "warm" up your GPS receiver. If it finds satellites, exit and try running your GPS software. I've had success at this point.
If that does not work, note the settings used on the test GPS app, and plug them into your GPS software.
If that doesn't work, start off with fresh settings by doing a hard reset.
This is already covered in a thread or two, btw

Was able to find GPSTest, and after that all is well. It must need to prime the reciever
I experienced issues at first but once you get it to connect to first time all is good.
i couldn't get a gps fix on anything until i installed TomTom. Now TT works perfectly and so does every other GPS. I believe that GPSTest will work as well but for some reason google maps and WLS won't "warmup" the gps until it's already be initialized by something else.

How to test the gps?

What is a good program that works with the TP so that I can test to see if my built in gps is working correctly?
I have TOMTOM7 installed and the application works but I can never see any satellites.
I tried mapopolis but i can't seem to establish a connection to the gps.
I updated the gps info using quick gps.
What com port and baud rate does the unit use?
What settings should I have in the "external gps" settings?
Thanks for your help!
Use the attached program to test the GPS.
It will search COM ports automatically
But I guess you can know the port from the settings tabs "External GPS" icon if it's like Kaiser
Anyway, I will be of further use in like 4 days

ok it seems its on com 4 with baud rate of 9600.
ill put it by the window and see if any satellites come up.
The screen just right now says: GPS starting up
Edit: ok great I just got 3 satellites. I guess it works!
Great that it works
You need at least 4 though to get a fix
Kindly, post your radio info and your location and let me know how many satellites did you view (press up on dpad as the 1st screen shows only upto 8 and it can see more, hopefully)

posting the number of satelites you receive is a bit pointless.
This will depend on many factors such as
1) The number of sats viewable at any given time in your area (the sats are not geostationary and therefore move around)
2) The location of the sats during the test - some could be close to the horizon and therefore have a week signal
3) Weather conditions, cloud rain etc,
4) Terrain
etc
etc
Basically, you are right.
But if you are fast enough, you can test several radios in the same 10 mins.
And you can judge by testing in the same place which radio is better for GPS (Fix & View).
A mention of your location will be a referrence for others.
There's a thread with more radio fuss to hold such info to be useful in the future.
Hi pjmiebach - thanks for the hint and the software - I get 4 satellits (yellow beamer) but when I tryit again with Google Maps it finds no Satellite ???
Any explanation from yur side ?
as a matter of fact, on-board GPS works with just about any baud rate you select - so choose the fastest

errr It worked find with TOMTOM7 after taking like 15 min to find it's first fix. Never tried Google maps yet cause my data plan doesn't start until the 8th of Sept.
you can start google maps and check in the right menu for gps and tap that one so it uses the internal gps instead of internetconnection.
it is also a good idea to goto connectionsettings and wipe all existing connections as activesync wont require these and you can download them later from the provider website or by running the carriersetup
ok. ive broken something on my raph. gps was working fine when i flew up to sydneyim guessing ive fiddled with something (external gps setings) and now no worky. tom tom7 is set to internal. if i disable external gps gpstest pauses on com 3 but nothing. if i turn windows on. it stops on com 4 shows some progress bars but they are all at 0 ive soft reset. taken the battery out canter figure out whatsoever wrong. any ideas would be awesome
TT7 and google maps
My tt7 takes 2 - 3 minutes to get a fix.
Google maps takes about 10 secs.
If i start tt7 right after i used gm it takes about 20 secs to get a fix.
I'm gonna try gpsgate and changing the baudrate a bit, see if it helps.
I'll let you know.
** Edit **
GPSGate does the trick for me.
Buy it at your fav appstore and create a new virtual com port for all NMEA progs, go to tt7 gps settings select other nmea device, select the com you just created, at max speed.
com port problem

Me too! :-( No, I really do not enjoy hard resets...
Another nice GPS testing software is VisualGPSce. Be sure to get that.
I wonder if the problem was with QuickGPS. VisualGPSce was telling me that it "saw" 11 satellites, but wasn't able to lock onto any of them. I know that it had worked previously, but then I had a couple of days break and QuickGPS had updated it's data during that time. After the Hard Reset, I haven't used QuickGPS.
About the performance... seems to get fix quite fast, but looses them very easily too. I tracked today a half hour buss ride and I frequently lost the connection. (Sure it was not the most optimal situation...). Also the accuracy wasn't that good - well, either the GPS or Google Maps. actually VisualGPS showed that the GPS wasn't very accurate in following what was happening. The velocity would go to 0 only about 10 seconds after the buss had stopped at trafic lights or buss stop. Actually the buss frequently took of before the GPS showed us stopped. And then it was extremely slow on catching up. On Google Maps you could see the dot still advancing when the buss had stopped for that 10 seconds. Completely off the road - but that might as well be Googles error.
I do not have TomTom on this, but certainly the speed accuracy from VisualGPSce is not nearly as accurate as my TomTom 720.
Check also that the assisted GPS is not active.
If this option is actived, you lose the signal each x seconds.
To check this option I use Advanced config.
Note : I've a Diamond and one Raphael, same configuration, the Diamond find a fix into 40sec and the Raphael takes sometimes 5min!!!.

i find this to be true as well but the kaiser gps radio worked far better than this touch pro in every app I tried. I can put the TP in my car window and get a signal with random disconnects but if i put it in my lap i cant get anything. I could put the kaiser in my trun and be fine lol. Hopefully some upgrades to the radio software will be coming soon. Same result with me with .19 and .31
Hello,
I tested GPSTuner 5.4, VisualGPS, GoogleMaps and TomTom 7 and I have a strange problem... I installed thos programs after hard reset to be sure...
In the GPS information window the GPS position changes but the speed is always 0km/h and in TomTom or GoogleMaps my position on the map don't move...
Have you seens this problem ?
Any kind of solution ?
PLZ....
PS :
Where can I find rom &Radio version ?
What is your TomTom 7 version ?
Hello All..
this is my first post. I just received my TP today via Vodafone. I havwe sucessfully loaded on TomTom 6 and I have it working with the TT external GPS receiver.
can someone advise me whether the Touch Pro's internal GPS will work and if so, how do I go about setting it up.
PS, I only see 4 options in TT6, and none say internal.
Thanks in advance for any assistance

Quick GPS Help

Hi,For some odd reason my quick GPS does not work anymore. My TomTom is non functional as well. I have checked my data connection and it is active. Can somebody help please.
Thanks in advance.
Can somebody please assist? I have checked my data connection and it is working. I have internet connection, for some strange reason Quick GPS and TOMTOM is not working. Is there a setting somewhere to activate this?
Thanks
Can somebody please assist, I really would appreciate a fix to this issue.
THANKS
I am having an issue with my GPS, except I got my unit 2 days ago, and can not get the GPS to work at all, with OEM rom or with any other custom rom. (it wont work with garmin xt, google maps, HTC GPS, or GPS tweak tools).
I hope I dont have a bad unit.
Strange thing, mine worked fine for about three weeks and all of a sudden it stopped working.
did either of you notice the unit getting *really* hot just before it went out? ...as in I-stuck-it-in-my-pocket-and-now-I-have-crotch-scars kind of hot?

When you say that quickGPS is not working, what do you mean? It doesn't display the page with the "Download" button? You press the "Download" button and it can't connect? It connects but never finishes downloading the data? What are the specific symptoms you're seeing?
I see the quick gps download button, when I click download, the message that I get is connection failed. My tomtom as well does not work anymore. I do have inetrnet connectivity, it's just the quick gps and tomtom that is not working. Please assist. Thanks

I've had my TP for 3 days now. As with the Kaiser and my hermes Holux bluetooth device it takes approx 5 - 10 mins to get the initial fix on satellites after that it appears to be working fine. Google maps, my old TTv6 all working fine. Takes about 30secs from startup to pickup Sats and shows about 5-7 sats everytime.
So just be patient with the initial startup. It should come.

What are the values of the registry keys HKLM\Software\HTC\QuickGPS\SNTP\Server1, Server2, and Server3? (I have values like xtra1.gpsOneXTRA.net.) What happens if you type that address into Internet Explorer or Opera?
When I type the address in internet explorer I get to the RX Networks webpage.
My internet is working fine, it's the gps thats not working.
Thanks

Well, QuickGPS is an Internet app, not a GPS app. All it does is download a week's worth of satellite ephemeris data from one of those servers. When you reported "connection failed" as the problem you were seeing in QuickGPS, that seemed to indicate that you weren't able to connect to the server.
So if you can get to the server, as it appears, maybe the message is about connecting to the GPS unit (to transfer the ephemeris data? Not sure about the architecture of the GPS here). What values do you have in the "External GPS" pages on the System settings tab? Have you tried the GPSTest tool? Is it able to connect to your GPS unit after you put the appropriate values into its "GPS Settings" page?
If GPSTest isn't able to connect to the GPS unit, then I think you probably have a hardware fault and should exchange your phone for a new one.
Can Someone tell me what is the exact job of the Quick GPS which is in Programs ? for me was expired and i just update through gprs and then show me some valid days remaining.
is it help to connect to satellite faster or something else ? and what happen if i don't update it? thanks.
When using WiFi, QuickGPS seems not to work if it's the first program to use the connection. If you make an Internet connection with some other program first (e.g. PIE), QuickGPS will work over WiFi. At least that's my experience with the stock AT&T ROM.
This problem doesn't seem to occur with GPRS/3G/HSDPA connections, only with WiFi.

Yes, QuickGPS reduces the wait for getting your position when you first start up a mapping program.
The way GPS works is that the GPS receiver uses the positions of the satellites and the distance to those satellites to calculate its own position on the Earth. That requires knowing very precisely where the satellites are at any given time. The satellite position information is called the ephemeris.
Each satellite, in addition to broadcasting time signals (which enable the GPS receiver to determine the distance to the satellite), transmits its own ephemeris. A GPS receiver starting up from scratch has to receive the ephemeris data from each satellite it will be using before it can figure out its own position.
QuickGPS eliminates the need to receive the ephemeris data from the satellites by sending a week's worth of ephemeris data over the Internet. The GPS receiver can use that immediately instead of getting it from each satellite in turn. That significantly reduces the TTFF (time to first fix), i.e., the initial wait before you can start using a GPS-based map program.
The "expiration date" is simply the last point in time that is covered by the ephemeris data sent by QuickGPS. After that point, you have to get more data, either from QuickGPS or from the satellites.

wow, interesting, lots of new and useful information for me that i didn't know that before. thanks man.
Not seeing any 10 minute delay like you saw. Are you updating current sat location data with QuickGPS? I notived using GPStest and MS Pocket Streets that Sat connections go up and completely down all the time. Nice thing is, GoogleMaps ignores the quick downs so it LOOKS like a good connection that never disapears. don't know if this is intentional on Google's part, but it works, even standing still/walking (once connection is made). Lovin the Sat view whilst I use GPS for directions.
Same here: Quick GPS cannot connect... What is this? Maybe a server fault, or do I need to Hard Reset?
LE: Fixed it: I just run Connection Setup again, then it suddenly worked.
i just did a hard reset and quickgps will connect only after i open up a browser and googlemaps sits at seeking gps sats. i had it working 2 days ago and then my battery died and it hasnt worked since. i did notice that the phone was really warm though.
quickqps hasnt worked for me for a couple of weeks now...and i still havent fod anything to fix it

GPS Lock Times

I know there are MANY threads to the GPS issues and I am not having problems with GPS lag. I have searched and read and already have the tweaks installed (running the Elite rom rc2 which already had all the tweaks setup) and changed the no data sleep timeout to 1.5 seconds. I also tried on my original radio version, 32 and now have 28 and see no difference in GPS lock times. It will never lock on using Google Maps or iGuidance. In google Maps it says "seeking gps satellites (0)..." for about 5 min then says your gps receiver is having trouble tracking satellites etc. The only way I can get it to work is to use GPS Test, let it get a lock which usually take 5-10 mins, then close GPS Test and open either Google Maps or iGuidance and it will then work fine.
What is also strange is that when using GPS Test, the only way I can get it to work is to have the GPS info set to auto. It will scan then find the gps on com port 4 and 9600 baud. Then it will start up and try to lock on. The next time I run it it will already be on com port 4 and 9600 baud but won't find the gps device. I have to set it back to auto, and restart GPS Test, then it finds it.
There has GOT to be a way to fix the gps lock time on this thing. I have tried with A-GPS on and off and tried with quick-gps and saw no difference in lock speeds. Interesting thing though, I guess Google Maps will using cell tower location to identify where you are? When I use it without gps being turned on, or while it is searching for satellites, and I click "my location" it gets a fairly accurate location on the map.
It seems to me that the issue is with the com port and communication. Almost like the gps won't come out of sleep mode or something and gps test is the only program that can "wake" it.
Thanks for any info.
I am in the exact same situation as you. My TP fails to lock satelites 98% of the times i try.
I have read everything posted about TP GPS on this forum, i have tryed most ROM's and almost all available radio's, i have tryed most tweeks and all that in different set-up.
And after all that my GPS lock's rarely (2-5% of the times i try), and most importantly it doesent seem to be related to the radio nor to the ROM. At this moment i tend to think that i was unlucky with my TP that perhaps is from a lot of TP's with retarded GPS module.
From the forums it seems that most of the ppl dont experience this extrem problem with the GPS, it seems that most of the ppl around only experience laggy gps module update.
Atm i am still waiting for Elite RC3 hopeing that perhaps they'll bring a new gps driver, that will solve my problem.
In case Elite RC3 doesent help i will revert to stock hard-spl/radio/ROM and ill take it to the warranty service.
Sadly this problem with the GPS from my TP blackens my experience with it.
Are you guys sitting in your homes trying to get a lock? because then it is very unlikely you'll ever get a lock.
I have to go outside and wait about 1 minute to get a lock and then its fine. However, I DO have to use the HTC gps tool to get a lock before I can use google maps or any other gps program.
I am outside with no obstructions. I did find this app and may play around with it. So far I havne't been able to get it to get a lock unless I use GPS Test first.
http://www.geoterrestrial.com/gpstoday/
My Telus Touch Pro locks in 3-5 seconds every time after modifying the GPS and adding the correct IP settings for Telus' AGPS. This combined with OCN8 makes for an excellent GPS device.
The guide for the GPS hack was from this forum, just can't recall where.
I have the same problem with GPS Test as you all described. I am now running qsqa's PROven ROM and I noticed following: GPS Test often fails to start-up the GPS receiver, but VisualGPSce worked every time I tried. It is a free software, included in the PROven ROM. If u use a different ROM, you can download it from here: http://www.visualgps.net/VisualGPSce/default.htm
Give it a try, it sure helped me!!!!

Touch HD GPS

Hi
i have read in a few other posts regarding GPS issues and Sat Nav software not working
now i have seen a few programs that 'kick off' the GPS and then runs the program and i have run these to no avail,
i was wondering if anyone else has not only had this issue but struggled to get it working, google maps seems to pick me up via GPS but tomtom is saying 'no gps device' go into settings within tomtom and set to internal gps device, and check gps status and no cannot see any satellites. i have had the phone outside inthe line of sight of the sky for an hour so me being inpatient isn't the issue, any help would be greatly appreciated
ta
I know with Tomtom and my HD I have to start Chartcross GPStest and let it get a fix first. Then I close GPTtest and start Tomtom. Once I do that Tomtom will pick it up within 30-60 secs. If I dont do that Tomtom will take 10 mins plus to get a fix. Ive tried several roms and radios and all behave the same.
hey thanks for reply
will give that a go
i have used a GPS test program that scans all ports and doesn't pick anything up, will try that one you suggested and see how we go thanks
