I have an XDA IIs but I guess that makes little difference except for the fact it is running 2003 SE.
Rather than have to use 'file explorer' to run some software on the storage card I would like to have a 'shortcut' instead. Is this possible? Can someone please tell me how?
In file explorer find the item you want to make a shortcut to.
Tap on it and hold until the popup menu appears.
Select "Copy" from the menu.
Now use file explorer navigate to where you would like the shortcut, normally \Windows\StartMenu\Programs and select Edit from the Menu bar at the bottom of the screen and then select "Paste Shortcut" from the Edit Menu.
You will now have a shortcut called "Shortcut to [your file name]".
You may want to rename this to just [your file name], so tap and hold and select rename from the popup menu.
Many thanks for that, I guessed it might be that simple but just couldn't work it out. I'm sorted now.
Where is Solitaire ?
I guess it's left out because it can't be controlled by finger (yet)?
No users have written that there is no shortcut in Start Menu but the game is still in \Windows directory...

Windows Directory

Sorry for my stuppid two questions.
Where is the exact win directory and how can you create a shortcut to the application ?
Regds

Using file explorer.
Make sure you are viewing internal memory, go right to the root. The windows folder is there. (slight pause as loads of files!)
Tap and hold and select copy, navigate to \windows\start menu\games tap and hold and paste shortcut. You can also tap and hold, select rename and remove the 'shortcut to' text.

SORTED NOW
Hi.
Does somebody know how to move games icons to Games folder? (For example "Autumn Dynasty" or "Jumba")
I do indeed
using the file explorer on the phone (these folders dont show up in windows) find the game exe in my device>program files>"folder name of program">
It will be here, probably the icon will be the games icon. Now hold your finger down on that for a few seconds until an menu pops up and select copy.
Now go to mydevice>windows>startmenu>programs>games and hold your thumb down in an empty space until the menu comes up again, and press "paste shortcut"
If you dont get something just ask again
I take it you mean just moving the shortcut icons from the start menu in to the games folder of the start menu. If the icon already exists in the start menu then its pretty much the same as above just go with the file explorer to \windows\start menu\programs "cut" the icon and "paste it in to the games folder.
BTW you can view the windows folder on your pc. You need to connect your phone through active sync then go to "control panel" on your pc, then "folder options" then go to "view" tab and deselect the "hide protected operating system files" Then using phone browser you can view the contents of the windows folder. It is however painfully slow to open and you run the risk of screwing up your device if you go round deleting things but it works none the less.

What so on the home screen, one of the 3 tabs is a like to the games folder? I found one way using resco explorer. Browse to windows/startmenu/programs and then hold your finger on the games folder till you get the menu pop up, select send to> start menu as shortcut. Then go to add a program on the home links and go to programs (instead of bookmarks or contacts) and the games folder will be there, the image will be the resco explorer image with the word games underneath it
Hope that helps, took me ages to work it out lol
Here is a link i created using THIS app. If you copy it to your start menu somewhere (\Windows\Start Menu\Programs.......) You can then assign it to the quick links. What it does is opens file explorer with arguements to take it to the games folder. Basically it opens file explorer in games folder of the start menu.
It does what resco does to create links but a bit more manual and its free.
Thanks! however the send to option is greyed out, not available.

Has someone found a solution for this? I can't believe that it is not possible to ad a quicklink to a folder as a shortcut on the home tab

Yes, it creates a shortcut to the games folder, but you can modify shortcuts and change the parameters. Just copy it to your PC and edit it.
Moving Icons Completely
Is it possible to move a games that I download to the game folder neat and clean (meaning without having a bunch of short cut to, short cut to, short cut to)?
This thread SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CLOSED (IMHO) - that was not a sufficient answer.
The answer is that although you can't actually remove the application as it is pre-installed in the ROM, you can remove the shortcut icon from your start screen by using file explorer to browse to \windows\start menu\programs and delete any icon shortcuts in there that you don't want. The start screen is full of icons I never use, and I always delete them to make the screen more useable.
You can also move icons around the start screen - if you are on wm6.5, click and hod the icon then select 'move to top' to move it up the screen. If you are on 6.5.5, vlivk and hold the icon then drag it to where you want it to be.
Hope this helps.
So, i got how to move them, but how do you remove them???
Use File Explorer. brows to MtY Device.. Windows... Start Menu... Programs, then click and hold on the unwanted icon and select 'delete'
i accidentally deleted the compass on my hd2. can someone please cab it up for me. i tried searching everywhere and cant find it
Are you sure you didn't just delete the shortcut for it. I don't think you can delete the actual program.

Greetz and have a great weekend
dude, its in your windows folder, open file explorer. Directory from My Device / to Windows (folder)/ Scoll down to Digital Compass.... IE it will have a icon picture... there is two of them... 29byte is the shortcut link, just copy this by holding down on the screen over the icon until the menu appears.
now navigate to Start Menu.... just scroll back up to the top again to find this folder, open it and then open Programs (folder)
Paste the shortcut here.... do not select paste shortcut in the menu since its a shortcut file already. JUST select the option to Paste...
now once you back to your start menu, it shall apear as an icon good luck!!
Is there a way to install, get or activate the compass with "set destination" on the HD2 stock TmoUS rom?
