A quick HTS Titan Radio ROM question... - General Questions and Answers

Please forgive me, as I have searched the forum but did not see an answer to my question.
On my HTC Titan, it is my understanding that there is an FM radio inside, but Sprint decided for what ever readon not to use it. I see in the xsa wiki that there is a "Radio ROM".
Which brings me to my question.
this "Radio ROM" v3.42.50 seems to be the latest and greatest.
How is this 'radio rom' different from a regular rom update where it "re=dos" the complete phone? Does it just 'unlock and make active' just the radio part/section/chip/whatever it is?
And pardon me, I downloaded 3.42.50 and being the non-developer on this site, just a sponge of your knowledge and using the end result of the great stuff yall come up with how do I use this rom? Do I place it in a folder? it is not a cab or exe.
Please enlighten me as to what to do with this or is it just for you guys?

There is no FM radio inside a Titan.
A radio ROM is the instructions used to control the cellular functions (among other things) of the device. It is not something to be messed around with lightly, as it can break your machine if misapplied.
Radio ROMs (as OS ROMs) are just for the people who know what they are doing. Search around here and read a lot until you become one of us, and then you will know how to use them.
Until then, I advise not messing with Radio ROMs too much.

Which Phone Have You Got? & other Basics

How does someone find out what phone they have? there are incomplete answers here and there, but I have failed to find a definite answer.
My M1500 (R: 1.02.00, G:1337.41, D:1.11.00 WWE) looks like maybe an Andes, but It could be an Alpine from the descriptions in some posts.
I want to find out what phone I have so I can...
a) Pick a ROM to improve Camera, and strip Logo's etc. Can I Choose any ROM, or does it have to be specific to my phone, the m1500, or just the right Himalaya / Andes version?
Is there a list of ROM's or just a post here and there with links to each other, I'm sure I'll end up with an older less improved one unless there is a post that collates some of them. Do I have to unlock my SIM before I upgrade the ROM? Can someone recomend a usefull and semi up to date ROM guide maybe?
b) Unlock my phone. Do I have an old radio that needs to use the xdadev_all_unlock-v1.5.exe, or the new radio which needs the xdadev_all_unlock-v1.5.exe to unlock it. I think the older version here is not the older version the post meant, but with no details / links on it I am unsure.
I know these questions must have been asked before, but if I can't find them, then others wont either, Please help me, and others by collating the wealth of info on these threads (some are hundreds of posts long, thats no longer a usefull thread, thats a novel!) for those are just getting into XDA developing (maybe ish).
Thanks!

*(Cricket-Vogue, Rom Flashing Help. Thank You!)*

I have learned and gained so much from all the members of the Xda community. So thank you. One thing I haven't learned much about is flashing roms. I have searched the forms many times but just cannot find what I am looking for, for my cricket phone. So if you know anything about cricket roms, you are the person I am looking for.
My question is, where do I start? I have a HTC vogue cell and I am on the cricket network. I am looking for a rom that is fast, clean(no extra crap), and is built to work with(or has included) M2D(My current phone version does not work with it(Adding programs/contacts, in their respective tabs...?)), and finally works with the cricket network(aka working mms, gps, calling, internet, ect.)
Also I do not know much about installing roms. So instructions geared for a monkey would help much. Aka, I don't know anything about the process: flashing, radio versions, or what I should do first, second, last.
Thank you for putting up with my incompetence. No, seriously, thank you.
To be honest, the best thing you can do is go to the vogue section and check the new ROM threads. most rom cooks write all details about the roms there.. and all sections have threads explaining how to flash roms.
if you still have questions after you've learned a bit from reading, we'll try and answer everything you throw in our way
for instance...

Thank you Nir36. But alas the rom that you suggested(with the link), no where mentions on it's page, the Cricket network..?
Lets take these other popular roms, both of which I am very interested in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=413376 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432487
Neither of them mention the cricket network or have very clear instructions on how to install. Any suggestions, ideas? Thank you.
the cook doesn't need to clearly state every network his rom would work with.
if a rom fits a device, it would (most probably) read any network. unless i'm missing something here and this cricket network is different than all others.
So if the Cook mentions every network, but cricket, your saying it will still be completely compatible?
The Vogue Flashing FAQ for WM6.5 is very, VERY helpful, and can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=508544
I'm looking in to getting a vogue when my tax return comes in, and getting it on Cricket myself.
Hope this helps, and I'll let you know how mine goes when I get it.

radio update

so how often is there a new radio file released? i have 3.21.90 i know its the latest i just wanna know if there are going to be more updates???
The radios are created by HTC not by us, so we can't really tell you. But, as the phone is really old now, I doubt that they will ever bother. Other than that, I'm assuming this is on the wrong forum (shouldn't be in the development subforum) because you thought the radios were developed by us, so I won't give the usual wrong forum speech.

HELP: Need info on rooting and installing a rom!

Hello all
This is my first post, great forum!
I got my HTC magic yesterday, and I want to root it, to install a ROM.
Here is what I mainly need in a ROM:
-multi-touch
-apps2sd (from the name of it, it installs apps to SD instead of internal memory, correct?)
-I listen to music a lot, so I need a good player in the home screen
-Wi-Fi, sending and receiving files by bluetooth
I figured out the following two were good, but I still hasn't decided which one to go with
this:

or:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556933
Any recommendations are welcome.
Now, i wandered around the forum here, and discovered that there lots of version of the magic, sapphire 32A and 32B, mytouch 3G, and Magic.
My version is the 288MB RAM and the TIM version, what's the name for it?
Knowing my version would help me in following guides.
Now, i have no idea what is the best guide to follow. I have no idea what are the SPLs! Would anyone care to tell me what are they exactly? Is it easy to revert back to the original HTC ROM?
And will I be able to update to Donut and future updates when it's released?
Is the Sense UI coming to the magic in October as rumored?
I thought I ask all my questions before I go around and brick the phone, I'm sorry if i asked questions that were answered before, i browsed through the first bunch of pages and couldn't find any help.
Thank you
one. Go to theunlockr.com and they'll walk you through the basics.
Two. if you have a my touch from t-mobile you most likely have a 32b.
Three. Google is your friend
Four. any other questions you may have are answerable with a tiny bit of research and reading the release notes
Ps I'm on att and had to get my phone from Rogers in canda. I did my research, didn't ask dumb questions and I'm lazy as hell. If I didn't brick my phone you should be fine, just don't try any of the fancy stuff like swaping kernels and radios etc.
Pps the only reason I registered was to respond to your lazy question.

On one other thing this really belongs in general or elsewhere not development.

I did not post all those questions because I'm lazy, or because I cant do the research.
I learned a lot from research alone in all fields.
I created this topic, because there were so much info everywhere. An old way, a new way, a doesnt-work-anymore way.
The requirements of the ROMs include a special version of SPL, so I wanted to know what it is exactly.
Thanks for theunlockr.com after all

YOU HAVEN'T Figured out anything if you posting here roms that are not for Sapphire/Magic they are for Dream/G1!! Ok sorry they maybe used in Magic Sapphire but not yours anyway you've got 288mb version thats 32A mother board this roms are for 32B...
If you had searched then you would have come up with these links yourself. This is one of the reasons why there are sooo many threads, people just post a new one to answer a simple question. Also, im pretty sure the Wiki is a stickied thread. Almost ALL of your questions would be answered there...

help choosing a new radio

Hi-
Just getting into this with my new (to me) Fuze. I've just flashed my phone with the newest TAEL ROM (6.5.3) and now I'm ready to work on the radio. My radio is currently 1.14.25.35. I've searched for an hour now, and though there are threads on flashing new radios, none of them give any advice on which radio to choose (yes, there is a 270 page one with that in the title, but noone actually gives advice. its a long list of questions about how to flash the radio).
So can anyone recommend a radio, or point me to a radio thread that isn't 270 pages of "OMG i think i bricked my phone"? Thanks in advance, and I've really enjoyed reading these forums because people generally answer questions, and rarely flame questions like this.
OK, how about this...
Appears that I've hit something of a dead end with this one... How about this instead:
Have you recently flashed your ATT Fuze with a different radio, which one was it, and did it make any difference (better or worse) to your voice service?
Thanks!
well...
Funny- I may have received no answers to my questions, but that's still better than most sites! anywhere else I would have gotten a "search the forums" answer, two flames, one person asking why I'm asking, and a short answer from someone who didn't understand the question. Thanks XDA-dev site! You're now #1 in my book!
To be honest, I've run both 1.14.25.05 and 1.14.25.35 recently and they both work well enough for me to not worry about the radio version anymore. However make sure you have matching radio and rilphone.dll installed otherwise you will have issues. For example, NRG cooks in rilphone for 1.14.25.05; since my phone is flashed with 1.14.25.35 it causes the wifi to be unavailable until I install the correct .dll.
It's probably safe to reason that no one has replied because everyone's situation is different (towers, 3g coverage etc) that can cause wildly different results in radio version coverage, GPS speed etc.
