If anyone here has tried to use an i.tech stereo headset (like the R35 or S35) or other A2DP headset and has been dissapointed with the sound quality (commonly referred to as a "ringing" distortion or hissing over the sound) using the A2DP for tornado hack, its because the MS Bluetooth Stack isn't 100% compatible with all (most) headsets. Its particularly noticeable on i.tech, but the reduced quality is true on many others as well.
In case you didn't know, Blueplayer is a standalone app that streams music to A2DP headphones even if the phone doesn't support A2DP in its own stack! That means any phone with bluetooth (some even claim older 1.1 devices as well) can bypass the usual MS stack in our devices and stream stereo sound directly to a compatible headset!
The software was written for Nokia S60 devices initially, but there have been Pocket PC and java versions (only compatible with specific phones) released since then as well.
I'm very annoyed by the sound quality of my itech R35 paired with my imate SP5. I'm 100% sure that software such as blueplayer would solve this problem. However, the PPC and java versions don't seem to work on my device.
Can anyone help me figure out how to make this work? I tried extracting the files from the PPC cab file, but its complaining about missing libraries. The install may add some things to the registry that I'm missing.
Better yet, does anyone have anything like this for WM Smartphone?
what are you missing? I got blueplayer running with my S35 and the quality is excellent and range good(for me)...
Unfortunately I am using a Wizard...
I wish I could get it working!
I can't figure out what it is, but I'm having trouble.
Normally I can make any app work (even if its for PPC) by pulling the files off of a PPC installation, and run the .exe on my smartphone and it just works.
But I keep get errors about libraries not existing or being in the wrong place. I need to figure out exactly what happens when the app is installed- what files go where, any registry changes, etc... There's gotta be a way to make it work on smartphone!
From memory,
There are a few files and registry settings that I can remember but barely, but if you want I can try to install it again. I removed it because I don't use MP3s anymore..
Yeah, if you don't mind helping me out, that'd be amazing (also for the smartphone community as a whole).
Why don't u use mp3's anymore?
I can just look up the settings for you, you got to do the work ;-)...
I find them too large for my 1Gb MiniSD, using AAC+ now... nice quality and file size.
Just PM me what you want to know...
Well, I don't know what kind of entries this will place in the registry. To be honest, I'm not sure how to check myself either. Is there a way to tell EXACTLY what a .cab does?
Found it!
Interesting program for those in my situation:
http://thinkabdul.com/2006/12/20/ms...nformation-from-windows-mobile-cab-xml-files/
lets you see exactly what steps a cab installation goes through. Any reg. items, what the actual filenames are, what directories they are placed in, etc...
Amazing little tool.
However, I still haven't gotten blueplayer to work on my sp5... I wonder why?
thanks for the link, I needed something like that as well, going to compare the differences in the Widcomm bluetooth hacks...
BTW, how do you get blueplayer to work on a smartphone anyway without the touch screen?
Oh, simulating a touchscreen is easy... most apps let you navigate using the joystick, but it gets annoying and sometimes a touch is needed to click (for example an ok button).
There's a great little app call SPhelper that places a mouse pointer on your screen that can be navigated using the directional joystick, and "clicked" like a screen tap.
Its pretty cool.
Anyway, the problem is that I can't get Blueplayer to operate, even with all the .dll files in the right places. It says its missing something.

Here's all I know:
I poked around in the .cab installation and found that there are 4 .dll's that go in the \windows dir (msibtstk.dll, msibtapi.dll, CHS.dll and TW.dll), and two .exe program files that go in program files\msi\blueplayer (STLoader.exe, and MPOBCE.exe). AFAIK, there don't seem to be any registry entries that it inserts.
Now, I've done this with PPC apps before, normally all I have to do is run the .exe after all files are in place, and it will work (obviously with some minor annoyances due to missing the touch screen).
However, every time I hit MPOBCE.exe, all I get is:
"Alert
Can't find MPOBCE or one of its components. Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all the required libraries are available."
There's gotta be something I'm overlooking... Anyone?
No man, there are some(I found some) entries, but I thought you were set and removed them already..
will reinstall and get back to you again...
BTW do you do a full backup of your phone? I use SPB backup and it is good..
oh, cool, I couldn't find any... let me know!
entries but not sure if working...
Here are the two registry inputs(rename to *.txt) I found on my system.. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to work this time as I am using Widcomm bluetooth stack... wonder why.... Last time I used this was with MS Stack on...

No, that makes sense. The Nokia one is designed to operated by tunnelling through the s60 stack, and the WinCE version was most likely designed assuming the MS one.
No go... I entered all this stuff exactly like you said, and I get the same errors.
Interesting to note is the drivers reg keys already existed!
It appears that the other exe (stloader.exe) did run and I think entered those keys. The actual program tho, seems to not run (and therefore never entered the proper keys, I'm guessing).
Sorry man.. to get your hopes up..
Right now, I got Axim Widcomm Stack running on my Wizard, but still get the memory issue after a long time powering off bluetooth.
oh well, back to waiting and testing new stacks..
Hey, I've got another idea if you wouldn't mind helping me some more...
Could you try to manually install it the way I've been doing on your pocket PC device?
The reason I ask is because it will determine if there's some sort of PPC-specific code (which I don't think I've ever encountered or even heard of before).
I attached the files and directory structure that I extracted from the cab. If you could, please try uninstalling BluePlayer and tell me if you can get this to run by manually copying the files here.
If it doesn't work for you either, than its because my method is flawed and I'm missing something here... and I shouldn't give up yet!
ok, I will give it a go, but most probably I can only go as far as getting the program to run... Feel comfortable with the widcomm stack, don't feel like disabling it..
just give me a few hours.. my stupid SD USB card reader not working properly... got to look for my cable.. damn!!
good news is, the program starts with the exceptions
1)at first start after putting the files in place, the program starts a few times with the L2Cap error...
2)After a few failed restarts, followed by a softreset, the registry settings in drivers(L2Cap..) are in place and the program runs without error.
3)Now it's up to you to test it with MS stack bluetooth on, as I cannot confirmed this for you.. good luck buddy...
Hello All,
I accidentally came across the following behaviour on my HTC Cruise, and I found it quite interesting. Personally, I am quite happy with my HTC Cruise, despite the famous display driver missing...
Of course, I am upset like most people, since HTC seemed to be so keen in advertising the device's multimedia abilities. HTC have lost a couple of credibility points for me...
Anyway, on with the question now...
When I select Programs from the start menu and move my finger up and down on the scroll bar, the display seems to demonstrate quite a lag; icons are slow to redraw and the display seems to "flicker". I understand this is quite subjective, it depends on the number of programs one might have installed, etc.
However..... When I select Programs from the HTC Today plug in, (2nd icon on top row of third tab), the same action (moving up and down the scrollbar), is so much faster!
It's not a big deal, but the difference on my HTC is quite striking. How about yours? I am a software developer and find this quite interesting as it seems to be the same function, but performace seems to be different. Can it be a setting somewhere, can it be that HTC developers did not pay the attention they should? (and admitted the fact that extra performance can be achieved by stating they will provide a "patch" for it).
Do you get the same behaviour?
Thanks for reading
You are correct.
Even when removing the "big menu" option as advised on TC tweaking, program list accessed from home plugin tab scrolls much much faster than program list accessed from "Start" menu.
This is quite interesting
................
yes same for me! - very strange, why would this be?
Yep, same here. Verrrryy interrresting.
When I actually got this device and scrolled the icons in programs, I was immediately puzzled as it did not seem to be very promising. The settings window has a much smoother scroll (yes, I know, it has less icons as well)...
I am sure there must be a difference somehow from an implementation point of view, or at least a different setting somewhere. Maybe a different startup setting, or something.
I have read about the tweaks and the different settings you can change, for example Cache font size, etc.
However, the mere fact that the same functionality has such a dramatic difference depending on how you invoke it, to me is a case of not so efficient programming.
If HTC comes out with a new display "patch" which actually manages to make a difference, then it would be almost certain that their "first" version was not so efficient, a mere indication they could have done better straight from the beginning.
They are implemented differently too. If you open Programs from the Start Menu and close it then go to Settings -> Memory -> Running Programs you won't see anything. Now if you launch Programs from the HTC plugin and then close it and then go look at running programs you will see it running. (This is assuming you don't have the HTC Task Manager configured to close applications when hitting X). Must be implemented differently in the back end.
I agree there is a difference. Scrolling of icons f.e. under programs is much quicker, not sure are executebale files running quicker too?
That really weird! scrolling is really smooth, I have noticed the icon on my top right I have a .net configurator icon, when opening programs via the plug in the name under the icon is missing but opening programs normally the name under the icon is there realated some how?
It seems indeed a different program. I have WkTask installed and when I get the Programs appearing via the HTC, I can see that this actually starts a window (as hambola says).
When I select Programs via the Start menu, no window title appears.
Another difference is that when I start Programs via HTC home, I can see the scrollbar getting "smaller" as the icons seem to be added in that window "on the fly"; then the icons always appear "top-aligned". When I close that window and reopen it via HTC, it is the same.
On the other hand, when selecting Programs via the Start menu the icons are already there, plus the scrollbar remembers its last position after the window has closed.
There are small differences really, it is just interesting how these affect the quality of scrolling...
is this in anyway linked to the driver issues?
Not sure, sometimes I'm not even sure what things are linked to driver issues and what things aren't. For example I used to have an 8525 which is apparently not affected by this driver issue. But rotating the display on that device was no faster than what I get with my TC. In fact maybe it was even slower, I don't have it with me to compare. So I don't know if drivers will even fix something like that. Maybe it will, maybe it won't.
What about the dialer skin coming up on the TC. That's really slow. I see the different sections being painted on the screen. The Comm Manager will only load up fast if it's not in the "Running Programs". So first time I run it, it loads up in one shot, if i close it and try opening it again I will see it paint the different blocks. If I actually stop it in Running Programs and then try it again, then it loads in one shot. Driver issues? Who the hell knows. I doubt it though.
If driver issues fix video playback and they also fix the camera lag, i'll be content. if overall smoothness is fixed and extensive graphics (like games) is fixed, then i'll be happy.
I agree with hambola. I am not sure it's a driver issue. To me it simply shows that it could have been done better.
An even more annoying issue is the dialler skin as habola also suggests. The camera thing is also important.
To me the video playback is not much of an issue; I always encode in QVGA mode without any problem or quality loss. Quality loss is relative, I think it looks fine on the phone, obviously it's not a good idea to play that QVGA video on my PC. An additional advantage when encoding QVGA is saving space. My files in QVGA are usually less than 400MB, whereas my full screen versions are usually less than 1GB. To be honest, I do not see the use of it. Last time I was waiting in an airport, I had around 10 movies in my phone, all perfectly watchable (with perfectly watchable subtitles), a couple of GBs of music and I had additional free space in my storage card. Noway, I could fit 10 movies on it, if the quality was DVD-like. So basically, I do not mind... I think Coreplayer copes ok.
The little things such as lag in scrolling, the dialler skin coming up in pieces in a device that is a PHONE, the camera; these things annoy me.
-And how do you make phone calls, if there is no keyboard?
-Well, you press this button and the dialpad comes up...
-Ah! I see it takes some time to draw that dialpad...
-yes.......
See my point?
quickly thinking about this, it sounds like the HTC plugin is launching it in it's own shell, therefore it isn't monitoring everything else that is going on if it were launched from the main program list, ie. when launched from program list, the priority of running tasks is set to all, whilst from HTC, the program becomes the main focus. Maybe to do with threading, HTC was compiled with hyper threading, and the normal today screen wasn't. This is a very loose and fast analogy by me so feel free to shoot it down!!
also, you have to consider what memory is being freed up by which launcher, for what app etc. etc. etc. Memory plays a big part in performance, if there isn't enough of it, then the CPU has to start working shifting sh#t around, lots of cycles wasted etc. Gotta remember this is a M$ OS, they aint the brightest sparks sometimes
This same thing happens on my Athena after I launch the programs folder a second time (using standard start menu). This is most likely caused by the bitmap icons being loaded in the device's cache. Wouldn't get my hopes up.
sooo, because i'm a cheap basta*d i'm going to buy a dvd player with gps for my car on ebay and i've noticed a lot of them, or even all of them?, run on windows ce. So here's my question, will any cab run on windows ce? i mean, winmo 5, 6, 6.1 and everything before that ran on windows ce right? so how easy would it be?
Picture this, a 8-16gb sd card, jam it into the card reader and start up S2P (slide to play) for one bad ass cover flowin' music center! obviously other thing would be useful to, and since these bad boys are only like $300 buckaroos it isn't a bad idea, especially for us gadget pr0n guys right?
what about flashing a rom from a SD card (only heard rumors/speculation about that, probably not possible)? or just loading up manila 2d/3d via throttle launcher and getting the think looking pimp? no phone antenna, no problem, just sync it through the bluetooth and make calls (new app required i'm guessing, or at least adapt/beautify some existing cab/exe). get internet sharing to work on it somehow and you're seriously looking at a pretty cool carputer. well, with all i'd want to use one for anyways. Who wants to do more than what a good rom on one of our phones can do while in a car anyways?
I'm not sure if it will run out of the box like that, with nothing more than some cabs on and sd card, or if you have to do something else (file explorer and whatnot), but i figured xda would be the best place to start for the right answers. I've never gone wrong before with you guys, so speak up! let's see what we come up with!
or at least give me a link to a better place if you know of one and i'll get off my soapbox...
anyways, i've got access to a few vogues, a wing/herald, and a touch pro to do testing with, along with the dvd player/win CE unit--in about a week or two that is--so i'm more than happy to put it on the table.
Man i hope you guys are reading this and as pumped as i am.
anyways, pm me with anything, or i'll just keep looking to see if anyone else posts here

does anyone know if this would even work?
This could work.
First of all, you need to look up how to disable OEM's shell (factory "software" of the player) and enable Windows CE interface.
Next you either install Handheld PC apps, or install libraries which allow you to run applications from PocketPC.
Myself I tried it with a cheap GPS. Yeah, WinCE + apps are a major step up from maps only, but it is not anywhere close to even a non-phone PPC. Because of, for example, lack of WiFi. The big advantage is, that I can install any WinCE compatible map instead of outdated OEM maps.
Hope I am right, and this helps
Where did you find information about your GPS? I just got one, model# TID-7626GPS that I'm going to try to mod, but i can't find information about how to get the WinCE.
if you could pass on any links to places i could look it would help a ton. For how do disable the factory OEM and those libraries?
First you need to find out real manufacturer of your device. I googled model name you said but there's nothing
Or, connect that device via ActiveSync (yes, the same) and see if there's a file \Windows\autorun.inf
If it exists, backup it. Then change it so it will load \Windows\explorer.exe
That should unlock WinCE UI.
However, the file may not exist. In this case you have to look for instructions over the web.
Hi,
Sorry if this is in an appropriate section...
We have software that is designed to run on a windows mobile (5 or 6) device in 240x320.
A client has purchased a huge amount of Motorola MC75 units which have a resolution of 480x620. As a result when you view our application on this device everything appears left/top justified.
Is there a way of changing the resolution??
Many thanks in advance
Del
depend on how you programmed your app it will run just not fill out the whole screen
if it simply crash you should prob fix that or use a program like wvgafix which will not
solve the problem but make sure it dont crash
best path would prob to make your app resolution aware it's not that much work
don't know of anyway to make lower res apps run in fullscreen on windows mobile
This is a two part question
I have the A700 and, frankly, I love it to pieces
1. I have a problem with app text size.. Most of the apps have teeny-tiny text that I can't read. The talk-back affects my ability to scrll up and down so text-to-speech is not an option. Is there anything to be done to control app text size?
2. I was goofing around with the Barcode scanner and I got somthing with small print as well as a bar code and I get the printed part in the scanner square. What I saw blew me away. The print was very legible and got an idea. If you could expand that magnified area to fill the screen and do away with the red scan line, you could have a very good reading device for persons with low vision. Even better, if you could route it through the Android browser, you could set it up "darkfield"; White on black. Those of you have have ever done microscopy know about the "darkfield microscope" designed to make things easy on the eyes for long-period use, not to mention using the browswers zoom command. This would duplicate the action of the current low-vision reading device known as the CCD/TV which, the last I was sure of cost $US1200 and am told is down to $US700. I contacted the creator of the Barcode Scanner app and he said that it was open-source. If what I have suggested could be done; expand the veiwing field to full screen and removing the red scan line this would make the A700 a very good low-vision reading device at about 65$ of the price of a CCD/TV
Could someone adapt the Barcode Sanccer program to expand the viewing/magnifying area to the full screen and eliminte the rad scan line?
Hi Space Patroller,
1. There are two ways to accomplish resizing the text:
1.1: Go to Settings > Accessibility and tick the Large text box. If that isn't big enough, or just not right, try 2.
1.2: Go to Settings > Display and tap on the Font size button. There you'll find the four options: Small, Normal (default), Large, Huge.
2.
I contacted the creator of the Barcode Scanner app and he said that it was open-source.

That is quite the easy answer. I don't think the developer wanted to actually implement it or he just didn't have time.
To edit the source, you have to have some knowledge about the coding/scripting language. It's not something a regular "customer" could do.
I couldn't do it either, so you might want to create a new topic in either one of those:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=565
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=524
Maybe there are people with the particular knowledge who could accomplish what you want. Though removing the red line wouldn't be a huge problem for people with a little knowledge about the language.
Low Vision Iconia
I have already tried the methoids you mentioned. 1. They don't make that much of s size difference 2. The don't control the app text size in most cases. I got BigFont and that helps somewhat but not with app text
I quite agree about knwing the code and the creator really did not want to be involved I put it here beccause I was told to put all questions in the "general" forum
I am talking here about severe visual disability like not being aable to get a driver's license severe. Are you sure it is all right for met to post my question in those forums? I do not wish to give offense, but if this were done it would bring this cost of reading devices down by at least half

You could also try to ajust the LCD Density. The LCD Density changes the whole resolution of your tablet, which makes everything looks bigger or smaller (texts, but also buttons in apps or games).
You'll need, however, require root permissions in order to do that.
There are two ways:
1. Manually: Download a file browser which is capable of viewing the root of the tablet. Root Explorer will do that for you, but it's shareware. There are other free apps out there which can do the same thing, but Root Explorer is able to edit files. You can also try AndroZip and then edit files with Documents To Go 3.0.
Navigate to /system/. Search for the file default.prop. Edit the file and search for lcd_density = 240 (which is the default). Change it to a higher value. I'm not quite sure which values are valid, because it'll also affect the Google Play Store compatibility checker. I think 320 is a valid value. You can also play a little with it, but you have to reboot the tablet every time you change the value.
2. Automatically (On The Fly ajustable, won't survive reboot ): Download LCDDensity for Root and check it out, haven't been able to get my hands on the app yet.
I think it's okay to post a question in one of these forums, you should edit the question a little though. You should mention the severe vision disability and then that you would want anyone to look into the app because it is open source; With of course the two things you want different. Though I really want to help you with that, I don't have the programming knowledge. I'm not sure if anyone is willing to help you out with something "complicated" like that, because people willing to do stuff that include changes like those are hard to find.

Hi, I don't know if you updated already to JB, I did, and as a novelty there's an option to extend the apps' visualization to fill all of the screen's real estate, afterwards the text gets bigger. A new "enlarge-stretch" icon appears near the clock in the navbar in (almost) every open app. But maybe you already found out by now
