Splash Screen Brick - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

Heya,
I have an ATT Tilt (8925), and was using one of Dutty's custom roms. The phone was working great for quite a while, until yesterday. Now it just boots and goes to the ATT splash screen (or HTC splash screen if I flash an HTC rom).
I have tried flashing the original ATT shipped rom, HTC shipped rom, and Dutty's again to no avail. When it looked lost, I called ATT and they offered to exchange it under warranty.
The kicker is, I don't know if they will accept it with Hard SPL 3.56 still on it. I have reloaded the original shipped ROM, but have no way to restore the SPL from what I've read, because I cannot get fully booted. Is there a way to restore the shipped SPL without having to copy the SPL to the phone? (maybe through MTTY or frankenkaiser?)
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I don't think they care what spl is on the phone. I have returned a few of them...just make sure the stock rom is on it.

i did just see something about spl being on the phone when trying to use warinty... its on the wiki.... saw it like 2 min ago... can u run any rom on the phone? origional or home brew?

I hope they don't care
Yeah, I'm really hoping that they don't mind it. I was able to flash the shipped rom, but I still can't seem to find anything saying how to restore the SPL without being able to transfer files to the phone.

Thx Cmonex
I did a lot of searching, but not enough I guess.
Thx Cmonex for your post and utilites "in Kaiser intermittently stuck in SPL? - Possible solution and prevention!"
Using this, I was able to flash SPL to 1.93.0000, which I assume came with the phone as I bought it only a few months ago. If anyone thinks I should go back to 1.56.0000, please let me know, as I now know how.
Thanks again for your help.

Wont Boot

I am a little confused. I have been trying to get WM6 on my T-mobile Wizard and actually got TNT 1.1 loaded and was working fine. I found that I could no longer view my contacts. The page would appear and then as quickly as it appeared it disappeared.
So I figured, I at least got it this far. I will just reload this rom and see if perhaps something did load right. Well after the reload. The phone boots up to the splash screen with IPL\SPL numbers and just sits. NOTHING.
I left it there for like 2 hours and still nothing. But I can still get into the BootLoader.
My questions to you gurus is:
Is the phone fubared?
Can I do some kind of master reset?
Why would it tell me "Invalid Vendor ID" when trying to flash the orginal T-mobile rom?
Are there any tools that can help me out? Paid\free?
Please help!!! Seriously! Please HELP!!!
Very much appreciated.
Thanks

if your device is G3, unlocking is required to flash any rom, before upgrade your device, it is recommended to flash an official WM5.0 rom (in your case T-Mobile rom) with IPL and SPL 2.xx then flash again.
in general there are many probabilities for your issue.
((Where is TNT1.1?? did you mean 1.0?? ))
My Bad meant 1.0
So to get it straight.... I will need to unlock my phone each time?
Oh and to correct myself again, when flashing with the T-mobile ROM it says UPGRADE ONLY. And the read me file says its the wrong RUU. But it is the same file from Tmobile I used when I first got the phone. But I will try again.
Are there any other suggestions?
You need to read the "how to flash" sticky.
I did. I am not any expert or anything but I believe the phone is unlocked already since I once had WM6 on my phone. The real issue I am having is that it wont boot past the splash screen after flashing.
And that is true when re following the steps in guide. After flashing to the button rom it will not boot past the splash screen.
Try another ROM.
Sounds like you need the "Wizard Love" rom. I dont have the link handy but I am sure someone else does.

Already got it. Thanks I am trying to load it now. But the only thing is that the last time it failed and I can understand what the error says. I know the number is 300 but can read the language.
But I will let you guys know when this load completes.
Thanks again for all the assistance.
No worky worky. The load completed and then boots the splash screen shows and then stays there.
Any ideas?
Try to remove the battery and let it out for at least half an hour. Then put it back in and see what it does then.
I thought the same thing too. So when it got done last night, out of frustration, I removed the battery and left it there to wait on when I get off work today. I will report back on what happens.
Again I would like to thank you guys for helping me. I really do appreciate it!
STEP 1 install the original manufacturer ROM
T-mobile UK
http://www.tm-phonedownloads.com/download_manager_mda_vario.html
T-mobile US
http://www.t-mobile.com/wmupgrade/
Search for the original rom for any other
instructions on how to use the original rom can be found here
http://support.t-mobile.com/knowbase/root/public/tm23294.htm?&A2L.SERVICE=AboutUpgrading
Put it in the bootloader mode.. ( three color screens )
hope this helps..
cheers
Praneet
Ok I did that and it gave me ERROR 296: UPGRADE ONLY
Then it tells me that the NBF file cannot be used for my PDA Phone. Please get newer NBF file.
Is there any way I can get the Tmobile splash and IPL\SPL number back to original, it doesnt need to boot all the way into WCE but atleast show the same numbers and splash during boot up?
Or any other way to get this thing to work?
Thanks guys
BTW it is a HTC Wizard from T-mobile.
If you are getting an error 300 you need a newer rom update utility, and regardless if your phone is a G3 or G4 it needs to be unlocked before you flash any rom.. LOAD a OFFICIAL cingular ROM onto your device before going any further, then unlock your phone either via www.imei-check.com or through some of the tools offered here...
Which one should I down load from Cingular? Even though I have a Tmobile phone?
what ipl and spl are you using and what radio are you using. Just post all the numbers from the bootloader
As soon as I get home, I will post them.
Thanks
Ipl 1.01

Tilt Was bricked..any ideas as to unbricking?

hey Guyz. I have a Tilt that a customer gave me that got bricked while trying to flash one of dutty's roms...Problem is that the genius didn't load up Hard SPL even tho he told me that he did...now He wants me to fix it...even tho he didn't follow my instructions and read the WiKi...I kno that on the Hermes it was able to be unbricked. Is the same for the Kaiser possible? I would greatly appreciate your help as my customers are loving the work you guyz do here in nyc..
Thanks in Advance!
Cristian
What is the current status of the phone?
Can you get into the bootloader at all?
If you can get to the bootloader you should be able to load the AT&T AKU v0.4.4 ROM (the unoffical upgraded AT&T ROM). Once you get that loaded you should flash HardSPL immediately.
Let me know how it goes...
Cheers.
I bricked my tilt when it was less than 24 hours old... I recovered it with a BETA of the ATT rom and THEN redoing the hardspl thingy - worked a treat.
Do a search for tolt bricked and you should find afew threads for it.
The rom is called something like RUU_Kaiser_ATT_WWE....._Internal.exe
It goes to the Tri-Color Screen but stays there..I'll go ahead and research it so I can find the original AT&T and load it up...It shows a lot..workin for at&t and being a member on xda...U guyz have no idea how ya make life easier for my tilt customers b/c at&t truly dropped the ball on the rom...and by offering alternatives..u make the user experience so much better...thanks!

If you are at the bootloader screen (Tri-Color) then the phone is not bricked. In the sticky at the top on how to revert back for warranty replacement, it has links for the various roms. Just flash an official AT&T rom on it and you should be good to go. Then do the HardSPL.
Cool that you work for AT&T and hang out here! If you have any other warranty returns, I can give you my address as I wouldn't mind having a backup or two...
BTW: The AT&T ROM for the Tilt is actually quite good in the big picture of things. At least the phone is usable (slower than it should be and less memory than it should have, but its still very usable and stable on the official rom). If you want to ***** about official roms, go back to the 8125 and its official rom. The while the device (at the time) was great, that rom made the phone almost worthless (super slow, battery problems, bad radio, dropped calls, freezing, etc). I can't tell you how many people that run custom roms on the Wizard just can't believe what that phone is actually capable of.
Ok, sorry, got off topic there...
does Hard-SPL needs to be flashed just once on a device or does it need to be installed every tome a new ROM is going to be Flashed onto it?

ActiveSync will not recognize your device when in BootLoader mode!
The Vendor ID error means the ROM cannot be loaded on the Tilt without HardSPL. You need an original Tilt ROM. (That's what I think about this)

Oddly enough the "Original" Tilt ROM will not install on a Tilt that does not already have HardSPL on it (to spell it out for you, the CID of the ROM does not match the Tilt's stock SPL). If you check the "reverting back" sticky you'll find all this info already, though it is deep in the thread.
The AKU v.0.4.4 ATT Beta ROM does have the correct CID and will flash on a stock Tilt. SO that is what you are forced to resort to at this point. Once you get the beta ROM installed you can (and probably should) install HardSPL.
After all that, if you decide you want to return or warranty the phone follow the "revert" thread to restore it to "stock" form.
Some additional notes on your problem...
ActiveSync will not connect in Bootloader mode (this is expected). You should see a device show up in Device Manager however, I can't recall the exact description however.
quick flash procedure:
put phone in bootloader
connect usb cable
install ROM
FYI, the problem may not be a bricked tilt... you could try Pof's fix which involves using MTTY.exe to boot the phone, depending on how your "customer" tried to flash it it may just need a kick in the pants to restore it. (search Pof's SSPL for the Kaiser thread for instructions, the thread was closed so you will have to look deep).
<climbing on my soapbox>
Lastly... your use of the word "customer" concerns me... are you charging people for the work you do to their phones? If so, do you donate to the people who make it possible? I'm probably just misunderstanding you, but if you're profiting from others work, perhaps you should contribute (especially if you're coming here to ask for help).

Good Luck!

Customers as in I work for an AT&T corporate owned Retail location and they have bought Tilts from me. They kno my Tilt has been modded and they usually want to do the same. I don't charge them for doing mods to their Tilts. This still remains a community where we help each other and I cherish that. Greed has no place here.

All in all it sounds like the guy wants a custom ROM so you should probably get the ATT Beta ROM and install that. And then install HardSPL.
Check Kyphur's second post in the thread below for the ROM you want.

@kaal,
It seems what you want to do is a HARD RESET. Please visit Kaiser Wiki and read through. You'll know your phone better that way.

Flash without hardspl

I have an unusual problem with my oem att tilt running SPL-1.56.0000 (according to the bootloader screen).
The ROM is somehow corrupted in that it will not boot past the giant ATT logo and coordinates (?) screen. I have been having some trouble with the device, but this is a new occurrence not related to anything I did. I have never reflashed the ROM, and because it is in a current hosed state I cannot run hardspl on the device.
I have tried reloading many of the "ATT OEM" ROMs I can find, but they all return "Invalid ID" error the ROM uploader I believe because the versions don't match.
Is there any way to reflash the ROM and bootloader on the device without having first run hardspl? Am I SOL?
Thanks
RK
Did you try going to tri-color first then flashing a stock tilt rom?
Dude, I have the same problem...
I bought the tilt 2 weeks when I was in a business travel in the US and came back to Argentina... I'm kind of screwed about the warranty 'cause I don't think I'll go again so soon to the US...
Is there anybody who can help us with this?
The very diference is that (At the ATT start up Logo screen) the bottom line says D 1.57.00.00 instead of D 1.56.00.00.
Tried everything... soft reset, hard reset... and so on...
The thing is that at some point I think I can get to the phone in some way since if I turn on the phone keeping pressed the camera button and enter in the rom loader screen I can get comm to the phone using mtty (As pof explained to do for "Un-brick" the phone (In the case you got a bad flashing) in this thread...
So, please If anybody have any idea it would be great!
I still have a little hope, because it's like there is some kind of communication between the phone and the computer...
Thanks in advance to any help.
A.
both of you...
Check my sticky thread for reverting back to the stock tilt ROM and SPL...
all you really need from there is the Stock ATT ROM... download it!
Put your phone in Bootloader (shouldn't be too difficult by the sounds of it)
Install the stock ATT ROM.
If this doesn't work try extracting the downloaded ROM (using WinRAR or similar) then just run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe
Then you might want to consider installing HardSPL... the default download should work for the 1.56 guy. The 1.57 guy will need to download jwocky2001's whitescreen fix (check the stickies).
Good Luck!
I am at the tricolor screen and I have tried the instructions on your thread (thanks very much for making it so easy). However, it says invalid vendor ID after loading 1%; the device automatically reboots and reverts back to the ATT screen until I place it back into the tricolor bootloader again. I thought this was because the version I'm running is 1.56 and I could only find two original OEM ATT ROMs, neither was 1.56 and both failed.
BTW I couldn't do the part about hardspl and running the kaiser program on the device for obvious reasons, but I could get the kaiserruu program to recognize the device, another ROM and attempt to upload it.
Any other thoughts? Do I really need the exact same ATT OEM ROM as what is on the device or is something else wrong?
Thanks again
RK

Damaged my g-sensor

Hello everybody,
i guess i fryed the g-sensor of my raphael.
noticed it the first time when i instaled a 6.5 rom a few weeks ago and saw that the album app in this rom did not rotate my pictures.
was not to worried about it but recently i tryed a few other progs but non of them respond at all to the movement.
when i open the calibration prog the "bubbles" just stay in the middle, and when i try to calibrate it it does nothing beside telling me to hold the phone still and a after a while "calibration aborted".
i tryed a hard reset, flashing another 6.5 rom, a 6.1 rom, and now even the latest original htc rom, none of this did any help.
did someone had allready the same problem and even knows a fix for that?
or is the only possible fix to return it for repairs?
if i do that and just flashed the official htc rom will also be my slp and radio the correct one or do i need to take some action to get that to warranty compliance?
thanks allread in advance
that is really odd. did u hard reset after flashing the stock rom?
For warranty repairs it is suggested that you flash a stock rom and return the original SPL, not hardspl.
Now i've returned two devices with hardSPL, one the usb port was broken and couldn't flash it back, but i did revert it to the shipped rom. The other, the screen just went completely white on the device and couldn't see anything so just turned it in how it was and never had any issues with warranty attempting to charge me claiming that the cooked rom and hard spl have voided my warranty.
BUT better be safe then sorry and not take any chances right?
yes also think that is really odd, i suspect that the phone fell down one time too much and somehow that sensor is "stuck" or someting like that.
sorry for the stupid question but how can i actually see if i have a stock spl or hardspl? and what spl should be on an original german touch pro?
to check your spl go into bootloader. Do this by holding down the volume key and pressing the stylus in the reset hole. Hold both of them until you get a multicored screen (Red, green, blue, white).
Your spl will be the second line. "SPL-xxxxx" if its just numbers, pretty sure its not hard spl, if it is, you'll get something like "SPL-1.90.OliNex" which is OliNex's 1.90 hard spl.
refer to the wiki for more info, or the sticky threads under the Rom Development section.
when you go into the g-sensor calibration setting, what happens? does the spirit level graphic move??

Wait.... if you don't know if you have stock spl or hard spl, does that mean you've never flashed hard spl? Because you need to flash hard spl in order to flash cooked roms
yes sure i have hardspl but the last rom i flashed is the original from htc. so now i dont know if i still have hardspl or if the original spl from htc came with the rom.
the tree color boot screen says SPL-1.90.OliNex.
i guess that is still the hardspl but i am not 100% sure.
so if its not original, where can i get the original one that came with the german touch pro?
The point of the hardSPL is that so it doesn't change when flashing between roms reducing the chance of bricking your device among other things.
go to this wiki page and it has instructions on how to return your device to stock spl. after you do that, flash a shipped rom for your device and you'll be grand

[SOLVED] Going back to Original ROM

Hi guys,
nice work from JockyW, ookba and everyone doing the job to bring us excellent software (pls if i forgot anyone, don't be mad ). I really appreciated the RUU_MAPL_3VOLUTION_WM65_3VO.2.50.112509 for a long time but I will sell my Maple now. It time to move on and try something new. Thats why I need to go back to the Official HTC ROM. I just cannot get it to work...
Obviously just flashing the original HTC Rom won't do the job because of the Hardspl, but how do i get around this. I just need some help on going back.
Thanks in advance, UKFencer
160 hits and nobody got an idea...? Or is the answer too simple?
If i am missing something pls point me to it.
Thanks,
UKFencer
Sorry, I don't think I have any idea. I *think just flashing the original ROM should work, I have upgrade/downgraded other phones with factory/custom roms with no problem. I have a question on top of yours. If I don't Hard SPL, what do I lose? There's a thread about downgrading the HardSpl to 1.19 or 18, I don't know if that helps. I would like an answer to my AT&T question as well. Sorry about hijacking your topic but I at least bumped it.
Download original rom in HTC website. Thats all.

Have you ever imagined looking into Wiki
If I were your Maple buyer I would apreciate more to have it upgraded to a cooked ROM, rather to have ugly stock.

Yes, I agree with your sentiments regarding the ROM, point is however that once the custom ROM is flashed with the Hardspl, the original ROM cannot be flashed back, which is sometimes required, especially if something happens to the phone and it has to be returned for repairs etc to the retailers.
Strange, it´s the 1st time I know that an HTC device can´t go back to original ROM...
I´ll do some research...
The original SPL is included in the package you downloaded from here..... Just have to use it, flash original rom, and you are on your way....
How exactly do I flash the original spl nbh file? I tried replacing the hard spl nbh with the original and running RUU but the spl remained the same.
you need to get the one from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=558003
there is a folder marked original spl in there. it is the same process you did when you put the hard spl on there, just using the original nbh
